Coszcal de Allende Restaurant Is Closing After More Than a Decade | Eater NY

"Temporarily closing from August 1 to 12 for an interior redesign that will double its indoor seating, the café will operate during the renovations with the exterior coffee cart it began with; when it reopens it will expand its after‑dark wine service (led by Four Horsemen’s Ava Trilling) and refresh its day and night food menus." - Emma Orlow

Google
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This coffee shop is such a gem with super easy access from I-40. They have an amazing coffee selection, and I tried the Aphrodite's Embrace which was refreshing and full of flavor. The atmosphere inside is lively and welcoming, with a great vibe for hanging out or getting some book reading or work done!

This coffee shop is so cute! The people working here are very friendly and it is super chill. It's a small place, but they had a good selection of books and related gifts. They had a really nice display for Pride month and themed drinks. They offer some yummy baked goods, too. It is a snack and drink place rather than a lunch spot.

Since it's opening, Daughters has quickly become a regular stop for us. We love having a local coffee shop near us the fact that it's also a bookstore is perfection! We love exploring their seasonal favorites, which are always fun puns for literary lovers. They have a great selection of new and popular releases, fun book-ish and cozy gifts/activities to purchase, plus a pre-loved book section that's fun to explore. If a book you want isn't in store, they can order it for you and you'll 10% off the sticker price. Our three year-old loves the little kids play area in the back and "making coffee" for us while we wait for the real thing. The staff are always kind and helpful to us. We especially appreciate Frances, their bookseller, who always has great recs if you're not sure what to read next! One tip: I wouldn't suggest arriving super hungry since the focus is coffee and books. They do sell some amazing baked goods, including some items from Chef Chick's and Ninth Street Bakery but don't have a full menu.

I loved the atmosphere and the service I got! Tons of books for all ages and genres, with many diverse authors represented. The tea was good but the ice melted and made it super watery, I suggest asking for no ice. The cups are small but the prices arent bad so it’s okay, you get the amount you pay for. Advice for the management: please change the hours on Google/Maps to reflect that you’ll be closed for holiday hours. I wanted to come see yall again today and it said open on Google and on your website but was closed when I got there. I completely understand bc it’s Labor Day, but a warning would be nice 🙂

I’m so excited Daughters opened up in our neighborhood area. I’ve been looking for another great LOCAL coffee shop for remote work days and this is officially my new favorite. The staff are SO NICE! It’s the kind of place that makes you feel welcomed whether it’s your first time or twentieth. They sell both used and new books and also host small events on occasion. Not to mention their coffee is sooo good! Love all the fun flavors and they’ve got other juice/tea drink options as well and a small selection of baked goods.

Love love love this coffee shop!! By far my favorite in Durham. There is a cute corner for kids with toys and books where they can enjoy time with other kids or parents. They also sell lots of kid and adult books. The cappuccino was superb!

So happy to have found this place and we absolutely loved it. Books and coffee is such a great combo. My coffee and cinnamon roll tasted great as well.

Google
So excited to have this bookstore/coffee combo near pur neighborhood. The staff was super friendly and I loved the selection of new and used books, along with a few other giftable items! We especially loved playing in the kids corner. It seemed extremely popular and had playthings for toddlers and bigger kids too! We will be back!

Yelp
My first visit to this spot was for my friend's book launch. It was in the evening so I ordered a hot apple cider (yum!) so I wouldn't be up all night from caffeine. I'd love to come back earlier in the day to try some of the coffee drinks another time though! The book launch included a conversation with Rachel Anderson author of "Being Human (Centric)", Q&A, and some mingling. The staff working were very kind and brought out more chairs for the group when all the spots filled up. I browsed the store before leaving. Lots of cute items in addition to the books - many that would be great for gifting!

Yelp
Returned for more seasonal specials, the drinks were delicious and creative, so happy with them! They had a long line but service was friendly and reasonably speedy. I enjoyed looking through the very affordable used book section in the coffee shop. Even though the crowd makes the place a bit noisy and overwhelming, but I loved seeing Daughters thrive and get so much love from people, and will continue to visit and try seasonal items! Service: 5/5 Drink 5/5 Atmosphere 4/5

Yelp
Really liked the selection of books! I had wanted to come here since I read about the opening. When I walked in it didn't feel cozy as I thought it would be since it was combination of books and coffee. The coffee selection was ok. Being a barista I wanted more. Their sizes were limited and my drink was ok. I love supporting small businesses and I will be back.

Yelp
Love this coffee shop! The ambience was super cute with a decent book selection and even a play section for babies. They had a good drink selection, and it was really delicious. The pastry selection looked lacking but the ones they did have looked good.

Yelp
Found out how to make coffee like a true barista ... not a milk heavy drink. Nice people and site, just lousy coffee.

Yelp
I finally got a chance to visit Daughter's Coffee & Books off of NC Hwy 55, within the Greenwood Commons Shopping Center, very close to the DMV license office. As you enter the shoppe, your path to the counter is embraced by the cleverly arranged library of a varied assortment of books in the neat little sitting area, which also opens up to a cozy side area of additional chairs and tables. Seating in the foyer area is very comfortable to lounge in and read over the interesting selection of books as you enjoy sipping your cafe. I love the cleanliness of the place. They even have a Children's Nook in the rear corner of the cafe so that the kiddos can enjoy their little selves away from the adults. A very thoughtful layout, indeed. Once through the doorway, I was greeted by the exuberantly welcoming smile of Sophie, one of the attendants at the shoppe. She and her sister Francis were sooo very nice and expertly helpful with my selection drink and food. I decided on a savory hot latte and a Blueberry Danish. The latte was delightful; a perfect balance of acidity and earthy blooms in regards to mouthfeel. Exceptionally gentle touch to the palette with a light smooth finish. Hat's off to the barista. She's very quiet but, quite deadly on that expresso machine! Hahh Afterwards, I decided to stay a while, to soak in the pleasing ambiance and charming personalities of my new friends Sophie and Francis. Would you believe they actually took the time to chat with me during their busy workings of the day!? I know I was probably bugging them, but I couldn't help myself. They have a way of disarming your natural guard and making you feel right at home. Oh yeah...so there's this accent wall, whose design I thought was wondrously conceived by an Van gogh scholar! (smiles) I beseech you to pay this place a kind visit and take a bit of time to sit down, grab a book and relax to the great soundtrack of chill music playing throughout the space. You will thank yourself later, I assure you.

Yelp
I was so excited to check this place out after hearing about them on social media. The bookstore was very clean, well organized, bright, and welcoming, and I loved their center display. There was a small used book section but most of the books were new. There is a little cafe with drinks and pastries as well, and the barista was very nice. She informed me that they currently accept used book donations but don't yet have a store credit/buyback system in place although they hope to in the future. I love local bookstores and Daughters is a great addition! It's pretty spacious inside and there are lots of tables so I could see it being a great place to do some work / read. And bonus points to them for serving great coffee!

Yelp
Daughters Coffee and Books is exactly what our area needed! My boyfriend and I stopped in yesterday, and the vibe was just perfect. It's cozy, calm, and so welcoming. The people working there were incredibly nice, and you can tell they truly care about creating a great atmosphere. We love reading and we love coffee, so this place is pretty much our dream spot. The combination of books and a great cup of coffee is such a smart idea, and they've really done it right. Highly recommended to anyone looking for a relaxing place to unwind, sip something good, and enjoy a new addition to the community!

Yelp
When an acquaintance told me about a hot new bookstore opening in Durham, I hesitated in taking the 40 minute drive, but was easily swayed upon learning that they served coffee too. I'm easy that way, apparently. As I write this, the lovely owners are enjoying a very successful grand opening. I got there at noon and the place was packed. Of course, everything was spotlessly clean, including the restroom, being a new business and all. Just like the name says, they serve coffee and they have books. And yes, it was well worth the hike, but I wish they were closer to my home as I need a new coffee hangout. Que sera sera, according to the song. The espresso hit the spot, especially since I didn't pay for it after learning co-owner Rachel and I have a mutual friend. It pays to know people, doesn't it? Don't even sit down yet. Get in your car and zoom zoom on out to Daughters. They are wonderful people and it was my pleasure to have met them. Best, A.

Yelp
Daughters is a super cute, newly opened coffee shop and bookstore located in South Durham! I got the iced Alice Rabbit latte, which has white chocolate and blackberry- it was tasty and I could appreciate the chocolate flavor, but not really the blackberry. Also got the almond croissant, which was good- they source all their baked goods from Ninth Street Bakery. Ambiance is great: there's a good amount of tables and being surrounded by books is ofc wonderful. Service is nice & fast. There's a large parking lot. 10/10 would recommend, I just wish it was closer to where I live haha!

Yelp
I discovered Daughters when they put up a little sign saying "Now Open!" I see it every time I go home via Sedwick Road. Living in the residential area behind this shopping center leaves no excuse not to visit. I made good on that statement this morning. I echo other reviewers who compliment the welcoming atmosphere. It beckons quietly, "Come, sit awhile." I brought a tumbler, filled it up, and got a book from one of the shelves. I wound up buying it to take home. I conversed with the ladies at the counter. I appreciate the warm hospitality this cafe offers.

Yelp
This place is really one for the book lovers. It was very quaint and beautifully decorated in time for the fall/halloween season. I forget which coffee I got but it was amazing! I would definitely be back.

Yelp
We were there opening day, which admittedly is not the best day to check out a new establishment. The lines for coffee were long, and they missed part of our order -- they made my wife's drink but totally forgot mine. I had to get the attention of a server and show her my receipt. My wife also purchased a book and was happy with it. I'd say this is more a coffee shop with books than a full-fledged bookstore. Anyway, it's nice to have another coffee and bookshop option in South Durham. They seemed to draw a lot of patrons from Parkwood and nearby neighborhoods. We love supporting local businesses and will be back.

Yelp
We stopped in on our way through town to grab coffee. We also had some pastries, which were yummy. The decor is adorable as this combo bookstore and coffee shop where you can browse the merch, buy some stickers, and chill on a couch while sipping your latte. I wish I could remember the drinks we got. They were from the specials and were quite good. I'd never tasted anything like it. The service was friendly and helpful. Overall, I highly recommend.

Yelp
I loved this place. I love the atmosphere and the fact that many of the books are used, which means buying a hardcover book will not impact my ability to pay rent that month. I bought a book and a cinnamon roll. I bake, so I usually won't buy baked goods as I figure I can make it better myself for less money. The cinnamon roll was well worth it. The restroom is wonderful. I will definitely be back.

Yelp
We happened to be in the area and spotted this new coffee and bookstore that opened and had to go check it out! Daughters Coffee & Books is a super cute, local bookstore and cafe with a nice selection of books and tasty sounding drinks. Although we didn't get a drink at the time, we are looking forward to getting something next time along with our next read!

Yelp
Absolutely love daughters coffee! What draws me to this coffee shop is not only the cute inside but the customer service. I give it 5 stars on coffee but when it comes to their matcha it is slacking and not good.

Such a cozy shop with a great selection of books, yummy cafe items, and a super cute kids' section.

Yelp
How about answering the phone? Or at least collect your messages and stay on plot. Mail box full, no email to contact the store. How do I know I want to come there? Not much info given on the website either.

Yelp
Good vibes, good people, good coffee, and good books!! Great addition to the area! Iced americano was delicious with cold foam.

Yelp
Book selection was minimal but might grow in the future. Coffee menu was great and the speciality drink I got was so so good

Yelp
This is a nice store, however, I was not informed, when checking out, that I could opt out of leaving a tip for the books I purchased. I feel that I should have been informed of this before or as I was checking out. I will not shop in this store again.

Yelp
Good coffee! Close by. Pleasant atmosphere with tempting books as company. I tried a donut, which did what donuts do, not much else.

Yelp
I finally got to check this place out. From The outside, nothing special.....however, Inside, a different story. Inside a cute bookstore with a cafe atmosphere. There were cute stickers and odds and ends for kids to adults. It had the feel of the independent coffeehouses of the 90s. Quirky and quaint, not a factory feel of Starbucks. I got the chocolate factory hot latte, delish coffee.....not overtly sweet, can taste the beans of the coffee. My 13year old daughter got the pixie dust matcha iced. She loves it ....she beelined and found her Percy Jackson book. We also picked up a couple of pastries ...the banana walnut scone, protein ball, and the pumpkin bar. They were only $2 each, I think they were special as they had probably day old. Fine by me! The scone was a bit dry, probably since they were a day old, the other two were not. The protein bomb was yummy. It filling. The pumpkin bar was too big for myself to eat. Needless to say, I will be coming back with girlfriends to sip and chat again!
