We dined at Davenport last night after hearing consistently stellar reviews, and we were genuinely excited to experience it. Overall, it was a pleasant evening, though the food ultimately didn’t quite live up to the hype for us.
We ordered the scallops, lamb loin, crab balls, and lasagna. Everything was cooked beautifully. The scallops and meats were prepared to perfection, which is clearly a strength of the kitchen. That said, the portions were quite small, and the flavors across the dishes felt more subtle than memorable. The crab balls, in particular, were served atop what felt like a glorified coleslaw, which didn’t add much depth. The lamb loin was well-executed, and the couscous accompanying it was good, though again not especially standout.
Where Davenport really shines is in its service and beverage program. The service was warm, attentive, and professional, and the wine was excellent. The ambiance was nice and stylish, though not particularly distinctive. One notable plus was how quiet the restaurant was. On a Friday night, we were one of only two parties, which made for a calm and intimate dining experience, though it also gave pause given the restaurant’s reputation.
Overall, Davenport delivers solid technique, great service, and a refined atmosphere. For us, however, the flavors didn’t quite justify the price point, and we’d likely choose to spend that amount elsewhere next time. A decent experience, just not one we’re eager to repeat — though I can see how others might enjoy it more than we did.
