The Best Sandwich Spots In Atlanta - Atlanta - The Infatuation

"Dave’s in Emory Village has more than 30 sandwich options. So whatever sub you’re craving from meatball to Italian, Dave’s has some iteration of it. Practically on Emory’s campus, this '60s rock-themed shop is usually crawling with students and operates best as a takeout joint. But don’t let the small, unimpressive interior fool you. Dave's subs are massive, and with an array of toppings like shredded cheese, banana peppers, and housemade slaw, they blow away those build-your-own sub sandwich chains in the area. First timers should get The Grateful Dave (turkey and avocado with a kick from hot pepper juice) to honor the man who started this Ohio-based chain." - juli horsford, nina reeder

Where To Eat and Drink In Emory Village

"Dave’s Cosmic Subs is technically an Ohio chain, but we love this mostly takeout-centered Emory Village location like our own. Music posters from The Grateful Dead and The Rolling Stones line the walls of the tiny interior, and the sandwich names frequently feature ’60s era motifs, like “far out.” They have more than 30 sandwich options, and although we haven’t tried them all (yet), we’ve had our fair share and there isn’t a single one we wouldn’t recommend. But if we had to choose two, go with The Grateful Dave that has hot pepper juice and the San Fran sub, with a kick of hot sauce and heaps of homemade coleslaw that gives it a fun tang. " - juli horsford

Google
I wanted to try out a new place to eat so Dave's looked interesting. The place itself was a lot smaller than I was expecting, but I was impressed with how delectable the Subs were. Place itself could use some touching up and I was pretty annoyed that there was no Ice when I ate there, but I liked the food and will definitely consider coming back.

Google
I use to come here all the time for the vegan sub. I came here after they changed up the menu the second time and got rid of the sub I always get. I tried the vegan Tuscan delight. The wrap fell apart and was smothered in the sauce which was extremely over powered. The wrap had way too much cheese and barely any other toppings. I took one bite and thru it in the trash. This is the first time I was disappointed in cosmic Dave’s. I have they bring back the old vegan sub

Google
Disappointed. We were excited to try since it's highly rated. The customer service experience was pretty poor/average, but the subs were really the Disappointment. Meatballs in the sub tasted fine, but were dense and tough. Lots of meatballs, though. The tuna salad barely had any filling. Mostly tasted like cheese and dried herbs. We took it to go and realized when we got home, there was (1) unwrapped pickle spear thrown on top of the sandwiches. There are way too many good sandwich places to choose from for this lack of care and respect for customers. We will not be back, even though we prefer to give our money to small/local options.

Google
Small hole in the wall good food all seating is outside in the covered area. Customer service was OK. Definitely could use a little maintenance but all in all it was good. Sandwiches very similar to Jersey Mike’s.

Google
Just had lunch at Dave’s, had the Dave’s Far Out Chicken sandwich. Sooo good, toasted, really good sandwich. Friendly staff. Nice place to grab lunch or dinner. Seemed to have a hopping carry out business too.

Google
Sandwich had a lot of flavor. Make sure you have a lot of napkins they are extremely messy!

Google
First time here and they have the BEST TURKEY TOASTED SUB everyone please go by there customer service was great my toasted sandwich was delicious thank you my husband and I will be back have a wonderful weekend

Achille Kolla

Google
This casual in and out shop serves a good sub. Perfectly toasted baguette and generously portioned! Get the regular sized sub unless you’re eating for two or later, then the large is for you.

Yelp
Really good subs. I love their chicken subs. I usually get it thru Uber eats and the sandwiches are saucy so the bread can get soggy, just something to be mindful of if you're ordering far away. They also put the pickle spear wrapped in with it so it doesn't help, but it's still a really good sub. As for the place, they have really cool workers who seem to care about the food they make. They're all laid back and friendly. The place itself is extremely tiny but they have a patio to eat outdoors. Definitely give it a try

Yelp
Soo cold on the day we went so we ate in the car, but it was amaaazing! That chili sauce... BOMB, but they don't play!

Yelp
Food: 2/2 Service: 2/2 Ambiance: 0/1 The subs here are absolutely delish! My husband got the Philly cheese and it was out of the world! I'm a picky about my bread! And the bread here is so gift and. Delish!!! The person taking our order was friendly and helpful! She helped me pick my sub! We will definitely be back!

Yelp
Dave's is the BEST! The food is always soooooo delicious and well priced and made with quality ingredients. It's got a super cool vibe to it with a big chalkboard wall you can draw on while you wait for your order. We come back again and again and our faves are the Grateful Dave and the Vegetarian Meatball subs.
google avatar

Ray F.

Yelp
I attended an after work event in the area and wanted to go to a restaurant that didn't seem too crowded and had vegetarian options. I ordered the vegetarian meatball sandwich! It was so good and flavorful! It made you forget it was vegetarian! It was a great casual place to just relax solo or to hangout with friends. The restaurant has an outside door patio area and gives you enough "outside" without the heat of outside.
google avatar

Shami P.

Yelp
Did a pickup order for dinner. We got the build your own veggie and a BLT which both tasted so yummy! The large portion is huge and even the regular size if very filling! The Dave's Cosmic Sauce is just the cherry on top to make your sandwich taste. Love coming here for subs!

Yelp
This was my first time trying this little eatery. I'd passed by it many times, but never stopped. Typically, when I visit a restaurant, I ask the host/waiter what is recommended or most popular. I was told I couldn't go wrong with the meatball sub or the Philly cheesesteak sub. I went with the Philly. It was awesome! The flavor was nice and it was cooked really well. I'm giving it a 9/10 only because it was a little more wet than I would've liked, but I still enjoyed it.

Yelp
My friend and I were looking for a quick dinner spot in the Emory area and we decided to check out Dave's! There's dedicated parking which I appreciated and a small patio we could sit at (although it was a little chilly in March). It's fast casual so we ordered at the counter. We decided to split a large Crazy Dave and made it a combo so we could get chips and a drink. Our sub came out super fast which I appreciated. This sandwich was AMAZING. The size was MASSIVE. It certainly had a kick to it and they did not skimp on the toppings. This sandwich was dripping in dressing and seasoning and I was LOVING IT. Overall, 10/10 experience and would definitely check it out again!!
google avatar

Yelp
The sandwich is to die for. This sandwich was packed full and the flavors mixed so perfectly. The service was great they give you a pager and come back in to get your food. As for the ambiance it's a cool little shop. I will be back.
google avatar

Yelp
Best subs I've ever had!! 10 out of 10!!! I've tried most of the menu and I've never been let down.
google avatar

Bluu S.

Yelp
I had the tuna melt. Great sandwich very salty and well toasted. I'll definitely be back.

David B.

Yelp
Amazing hot sub! Love the French bread! Great job. I got a super large sandwich and ate only half. My dinner was the other half!
google avatar

Will R.

Yelp
Ate at this place while my daughter was at an activity at nearby Emory. Place was pretty empty on the weekend. I ordered a sub which was ready in a reasonable amount of time. The Dave's dressing was awesome. Along with the flaky bread really made this an awesome sub sandwich. Place is tiny and seems like the perfect after hours stop. No seating inside with some seating in a "tent" outside.
google avatar

Jessi P.

Yelp
This is a sold lunch option. The only reason I'm giving four stars instead of five is that I feel like the menu is pretty limited for those that don't like spicy food. I had the meatball sub and it was nothing short of amazing. It was like eating meatballs wrapped in cheesy garlic bread. If you're considering this option, go for it. You won't be disappointed.
google avatar

Manny W.

Yelp
Far out chicken sandwich. First timer. Can't wait to explore the rest of their menu They are a pretty chill spot.
google avatar

Marie N.

Yelp
Great value and delicious subs! I always try to order something new when visiting and never regret it. It's a little local gem that offers great subs at decent prices.
google avatar

Carl B.

Yelp
Go out of your way to get here! Best damn subs you will ever eat! Always hot and on time! Always greeted with a smile and the music is perfect for the setting of this little limited seating place. Parking is ok but you have to try this place once! I promise you'll come back again and again. Price is fair! Enjoy!

Yelp
I am a huge fan of the sandwiches here at Dave's! They have so many options, and so far everything I've has tastes great, including several vegetarian sandwiches. They're also conveniently located next to a free parking lot in Emory Village that has ample parking. All seating is outdoors under a covered roof. It does tend to get busy during lunch, especially if classes are in session, so wait times can vary between 5-20 min, but my sandwich always comes out warm and fresh! usually get food to go as seating can be limited but the patio (where you wait for your order) always has decent rock music playing and sports on for your entertainment.
google avatar

Karisa P.

Yelp
Dave's far out chicken sub is my favorite! The sauces are flavorful. So good! Check this place out if you are craving a sub that will not disappoint!

Kern T.

Yelp
Hate to, and seldom post a negative review but I am totally disappointed. Paid $12.49 +tax/tip for a corned beef sandwich to go. Got it home and found it to be about a half inch of tough corned beef on a regular size loaf rye bread. I know times are tough for restaurants but I can pay this price elsewhere and get a real corned beef experience. Will go elsewhere for my next sandwich or sub purchase.
google avatar

Yelp
So this was my first time going and the food was great. I got the club but switched cheese to provolone. I ate half the sandwich in the car and was put in a food coma. Pricing is aligned with Atlanta. Seating is outside so just take it home if you can.
google avatar

Aubrey G.

Yelp
Came in to grab a quick sandwich, cozy neighborhood joint right here with some good food! I got "The Incredible Dave" ..... GOOOOOD SANDWICH , definitely will be back to explore the menu.
google avatar

John B.

Yelp
Great sandwich shop selections available top notch. Went in from the recommendation from co workers they indicated how great the food was, so I decided to give a try very impressed great location. Looking forward to one of the specialty subs next visit.
google avatar

Nyla M.

Yelp
Hands down best sandwich I've ever had. Turkey Dave's HOT. Will always be my go to when back in ATL or any of their other locations. This sandwich makes me think of opening up my own location.
google avatar

Justin T.

Yelp
Had it years ago and it was pretty solid. 3 stars because today I called at 5:15 to put an order in 45 minutes before close and got no answer so drove 15 minutes to order in person. At 5:35 walked up and they said they weren't taking new orders despite 3 people in the restaurant at the time total. That's 25 minutes before they were closing. I get it, it's Sunday and you want to close but if you don't want people ordering on a Sunday close to your closing time and want to go home then change your hours to 5 pm and don't post that you are really open to 6 if you stop taking orders that early.

Yelp
This place was awful. I got a daves original (or whatever #1 was) and it was terrible. It says it comes "smothered in sauce" but it was the driest sandwich ive ever paid to eat. The bread was stale and there was no sauce. Then when i asked for sauce on the side, they charged me extra. (Its already not overly cheap for a sandwich place.) Then the sauce tasted like bad caeser dressing. My running theory is they ran out of the real sauce and instead of just telling us gave us caeser. Otherwise the "famous sauce" is just gross ceaser. I honestly dont know what would be worse. The toppings are sparse for what the sandwich is, except for a bunch of shredded pizza cheese that is not good. Assuming they didnt lie about the sauce then charge us for it, service was "ok". If they did, then obviously thats bad. For ambiance, its a sandwich shop. Its a little run down and dirty, which would be ok if the food was at all good, but its not. This place was terrible. Maybe hot sandwiches are better?

Yelp
Great subs. I have long driven by this place. Glad I finally stopped in. Enjoy Dave 's Cosmic Subs
google avatar

Hudson C.

Yelp
To start off, i would like to say that dave's cosmic subs are by FAR the best subs that i have ever had in my life. in my personal opinion, #13 turkey dave is the best and all their subs overall are so delicious when served hot, especially in cold weather, when i visit dave's often. all of the subs are made fresh and it is easy to know when yours is ready because they use buzzers to tell you when to pick up your sub. they have good music and tvs that have sports on inside their patio. 100% recommended
google avatar

Heather H.

Yelp
I love this place! Every time I go there, the food is always very delicious and the people are very nice. Today I got the Italian Sausage sub. I think it's #18. It was so good!
google avatar

Elizabeth C.

Yelp
Very solid campus-adjacent sub shop with hippie vibes and a large selection of satisfying sandwiches. They've got something for your veggie friends and your hardcore carnivores. Get your sub toasted for sure. We got a classic sub and a haight ashbury. It isn't super fast (we waited probably 15 minutes for our sandwiches and it was not busy) but we didn't die of hunger. The "small" size is actually the size of what I would consider a regular sub. The "large" size is basically two regular subs. If you're really hungry that's the one for you, but I was good with a "small" size. Bread is great, fillings are generous and well proportioned, I have no complaints. Would definitely swing by for a sub again.

Beth S.

Yelp
Great food for an affordable cost. This was an Emory staple when I went to college there. Staff is quick and helpful. More of a grab and go restaurant, there is limited seating.
google avatar

Gregory W.

Yelp
Sandwiches were okay. Atmosphere cold, (outside/tent), no heater. The customer service was also kind of cold. We felt like the owner (?), was a little too, "Matter-of-fact". We asked if he gave military/veterans discounts? He said, "We're not set-up for that here" ?? Lol. Okay. Sandwiches were okay, again. Not a place we'll go back to. Looks like he has local area customers. Panera Bread is directly across the street.
google avatar

TonyaMike H.

Yelp
The food is really good. Fresh tasting . It is kinda confusing to make your order. But the workers are friendly and helpful. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Amy M.

Yelp
STELLAR. Not about atmosphere. Just GREAT subs. You can get 'em hot or cold, three diff kinds of bread incl gluten free option. Ideal for takeout. Casual, no bells or whistles tho we did enjoy the music playlist on the patio. Best meatball sub in ATL, btw.
google avatar

Angelica N.

Yelp
I have heard raving reviews about this place, and I was able to have the opportunity to give this place a try. The sandwiches here are quite delicious, and the bread is made just right so that it melts in your mouth almost. The food did take quite awhile to come out, so I wouldn't recommend if you're in a rush. There's also very limited seating as well. The restaurant itself is small, but I would say it is a nice and casual atmosphere. You order your food, and you come back to pick it up with your buzzer. I enjoyed the Dave's World Famous Sub!

Scott B.

Yelp
Great sandwiches! Support a local business and it's so good you won't regret it! The meatball sub was amazing!!

Alexus S.

Yelp
Not good. Called to place a order Togo. The lady on the phone didn't seem to like her job. She asked me if I wanted everything on the sub I asked her can you tell me what's on the sub. She replied that she doesn't have time to tell me what's on the sub and to go online to see what's on it. My question is isn't it easier to just tell me what's on it if you have an option to take away items. I just moved here and the customer service in GA is awful. I'll never feel comfortable ordering here or eating here. Stay away!
google avatar

Benjamin P.

Yelp
We ate here for lunch today and got the #1 toasted and the #28 not toasted. Decent Italian subs for Atlanta area, but not not really up to par with those you'd get up in the northeast and NY/NJ. Kind of expensive when compared to what we could get back home. Inside the ordering area. and the plastic outdoor walls definitely need a good cleaning. Overall friendly service and a decent sandwich. Not sure we'll come back as it was pretty expensive for two sandwiches.
google avatar

Shamar H.

Yelp
Not a fan I don't know what all the rave was about just like eating Jersey Mike's it also left nasty after taste so I'm good on this.
google avatar

Justin T.

Yelp
Had high hopes but was kinda disappointed when I left. The sandwich had potential but missed the mark. Ordered the #1, their flagship sub and it was really dry and really small. Disappointing. :( The bread was perfectly toasted which was awesome, the ingredients seemed pretty standard of what you would find at any deli sandwich place. Had a tasty pickle spear that came with the sandwich but for $10 (sandwich only), it was dry and too small. I wish there were different sandwich size options. I walked away still hungry. On the menu it says there's Dave's cosmic sauce on it which I was really excited to try but the sandwich was so dry that I had to question the staff if there was any sauce on the sandwich. They confirmed yes, so that was disappointing. The ingredient combo on the sandwich was tasty so it definitely has potential, but I feel they missed the mark. Needs way more sauce and to be larger/thicker and or have more/larger sandwich options. :) sorry guys, I wanted to like it, but it just didn't do it for me. At the end of the day, it wasn't anything special.
google avatar

Yelp
SO GOOD! This is definitely a hole-in-the wall style restaurant with great food. I used to go all the time after school and now I'm back in school in the area and couldn't be more thrilled to get to go again. (I live in Sandy Springs so it's quite the drive!) Even brought my folks sandwiches and they were just as happy. Definitely a must-try and you can't beat the prices. Staff has always been so kind too. Definitely worth a visit. I recommend the club sub.
google avatar

Vernon C.

Yelp
Dave's is pretty good. I hadn't been in 3 years so I went back. It was good, not as good as the first time but I think that is my fault. I should have started eating in the car. I live 30 mins away so it was as piping hot and fresh when I arrived home. Try it out though, you won't regret.

Lisa L.

Yelp
Horrible place ! NO CUSTOMER SERVICE at all. We ordered & paid online for 5 subs, but when my husband got to the store (he wasn't completely sure what we ordered), they gave him 4 subs & made him pay at the store (again). So I paid over $100 for 4 small subs. They wouldn't help us AT ALL when we called & then drove back to the store. Subs weren't good either. Live & learn. But I would stay away from Dave's. They at least could've been nice, but nope.

Elizabeth P.

Yelp
Picked up subs to eat while my husband was in the hospital. YUM! I got the original and my husband got the club . Very good sub! Warm , plenty of meat and veggies . We will be back to try more ! Man ringing me up wasn't overly friendly but maybe that's his style ?
google avatar

Rashad M.

Yelp
Came by here for my lunch break just based on the pictures I saw on the reviews so I gave it a shot and it was a . This Famous Bleu is a great choice.

Jen H.

Yelp
Best subs on the planet! Dave's Sauce is like crack! Classic Dave's toasted is always a great choice

Arielle S.

Yelp
The kitchen staff was extremely rude . I placed an order and the kitchen told me it would take 45 minutes . When I asked if it could be expedited the cook in the kitchen said "miss , leave me alone . Go away". She was insanely rude and no one else in the store apologized . I just left without my food .

Nancy G.

Yelp
Delicious subs, good variety. NOT a chain sub shop. Quick service and close to Emory Hospital.
google avatar

Sam L.

Yelp
Went to Dave's at noon on a Saturday; there was no line when we walked in but one arrived soon after! There's a parking lot next to the CVS and we had no trouble finding a spot. The woman taking orders was very friendly and gave us some recommendations - the OG Dave sub is apparently a big hit, as is the Crazy Dave sub. I ended up getting the "Hey Dave" (19), which at 6.99 for a regular felt reasonably priced (a regular sandwich is 6.49 I believe unless marked otherwise.) This sandwich was also THICC. Like, stuffed. It had a good meat-to-everything-else ratio, and it was pretty tasty. The bread was also nicely toasted and wasn't soggy despite the horseradish sauce on it. They offer chips, cookies, brownies, and drinks as well to get with your sandwich - I did not try any, but I was eyeing those brownies... next time! Overall I enjoyed Dave's and would definitely return for a well priced, filling meal!

Stacy J.

Yelp
OMG! Amazing subs! Family of 5- great menu variety for us! We will definately be back!
