Dr. Chow is excellent- I’ve been seeing him for some time now and he gives back to his communities by accepting interns I think this is great. Dr. Chow is very knowledgeable and thorough so if you’re new of course he wants to do a thorough examination. And I had stys on each eyes and he thought it was best to resolve on it’s on as long as it wasn’t showing signs of infection or damage. Dr. Chow has mastered what he does and I am certain he can do this in his sleep. And if he feels he’s being over competent he’ll refer you out for a 2nd opinion. He’s the best OPT DR. In the NOVA area that I know of- I’m sure there’s others. But he’s very seasoned in his craft. Thank you Dr. Chow:)

Highly not recommended. During my brief visits here I noticed that the billing practices are questionable where we were sent numerous bills that should have been covered by insurance. There’s a lack of coordination between the doctor and staff here. Even the techs seemed lost at times where I believe they messed up my eyeglass prescription a few times. The doctor seems knowledgeable and respectful but his age is creeping up there. The final straw where I noticed things seemed off is where he recommended me coming back in 3 months for another eye exam despite everything being fine. Why would you request a healthy adult to come in within a small timeframe if they’re healthy? Never experienced anything like that with my prior ophthalmologists and it seemed deliberate to bill my insurance company again for profit. Saw another professional ophthalmologist and he corrected my prescription and recommended the yearly follow up as usual. Do your best to avoid this place

This opthamologist is highly recommended! Very attentive and careful staff that thoroughly examines patients and understands their needs. The doctor is highly experienced and careful although his practice doesn't do any surgeries anymore.

After searching for a long time for an Ophthalmologist who would see my son I decided to visit Dr. Chow. We took my son for a stye on his eyelid ...which is stated multiple times on the paperwork. When we arrived for the first appointment the office assistant thought we were there for an eye exam....until I stopped him and stated we are here for something else. Obviously didn't read the paperwork. The office feels run down with stuff just everywhere. However, who cares if the Dr. is good. Dr. Chow looked at his eye said it's no problem prep with some medicine and come back next week. Easy enough. We went back for second appointment. We arrived and after about 10 minutes they moved us into a random room because their rooms were full. The assistant comes in and asks a bunch of questions, ...and then says Dr. Chow doesn't usually remove bumps like my son's. I was perplexed and annoyed because nothing had changed since last week...so why would this be the case? Anyways he leaves and we wait. We wait for one full hour and still were not seen. Meanwhile I could hear the Dr. in the office next to us chit chatting about a TV show with the patient before us. I finally lost my patience and we just walked out of the office. No one should wait one hour to be seen by a doctor when you make an appointment. Also.....assistants should read the charts before coming to talk to a patien AND not offer contradictory opinions to what the Dr. has told a patient. It diminished my confidence in the whole situation.

Hello everyone, I want to tell you, if you are a new customer, and you are making an appointment with this doctor for the first time. If the doctor prescribes medicine (eye drops) for you, you must go to another doctor to confirm whether it is necessary or not? Because I went to see another doctor for a new examination and confirmed that I did not need to take the medicine. The doctor does not like to hear what you say to him. I am a diabetic and need to check my eyes every year. Other clinics only require one visit to the doctor, but this clinic will arrange two visits. The first time, they wrote me a prescription to get glasses, and the second time, they prescribed intraocular pressure drops for me. Be careful. I just learned that the intraocular pressure drops prescribed by the doctor can be stopped after use, and stopping will cause damage to the eyes. The problem is that the doctor here did not tell the patient about the consequences of taking the medicine. Remember to be careful,

Google
Dr. Chow was able to see me quickly after I injured my eye. Everyone in the office was very professional, and I received a thorough examination. Dr. Chow took the time to explain things to me and answered all my questions. I would absolutely recommend Dr. Chow.

Google
Dr. Chow has a great bedside manner, is patient and thorough, and demonstrates great care and consideration for his patients. At no time did my daughter and I feel rushed. He was able to coordinate a same-day follow-up visit with a similarly caring and patient Retina specialist across the street from his practice. I highly recommend him and his practice and will continue to consult with him for our family's optical needs.

Yelp
Was the least effective and most expensive treatment that accomplished nothing when I had a problem with my cornea. Had to find another doctor who could prescribe the simple drops that fixed the issue.

Yelp
Very sweet doctor!Dr Chow embodies the best quality of a traditional Chinese intellectual. His dedication and spirit of service to his patients is quite rare in today's world. I had two pleasant visits with him and we also had very interesting conversations.

Yelp
Just incredIble. He is very knowledgeable and has amazing bedside manner. His staff is kind & accommodating. His office is homey & familial. I was very grateful to see Dr Chow on very short notiCe due to an eye emergency. He was perfect, kind, educational & referred me to the right place. He went to great lengths to ensure that I was taken care of even making personal calls to his fellow physicians on my behalf. I'm so grateful. He's now my eye doc for life. Thanks Dr Chow!

Yelp
I searched EVERYWHERE to find the best eye doctor in Northern Virginia and it led me right to this guy! I started out at Finley Eye Care which was good but I needed surgery eventually and I finally found David Chow's office. His staff is super friendly and professional, but I can't express how courteous and experienced he is! I had a series of corneal abrasions that led to corneal erosion and he was able to correct my vision back to 20/20 with some basic procedures, which insurance covered. His level of knowledge is unmatched, and if there is anything he is unable to do he is partnered with Dr. Ahmed Nasrullah's offices, and has a huge network of doctors that can squeeze you in, just in case there's an emergency call first, he will find a way to help you. One of the few doctors I've met that still care and treat you like family

Stephen D.

Yelp
Im extremely myopic. When I first moved to NOVA I actually had a Dr. tell me that Ivwas so nearsighted that he couldn't treat me. As it turned out he did me a favor because his closed door led me to Dr Chow. Who not only gladly accepted me as a patient, got me to see 20/20 for the first time in my life with contacts. I've seen Dr Chow since I was 25. Im now 48. I thank the Lord for him. Through retinal detachments, glasses and contacts he's been there. He always says it's his honor to have me as a patient. Thanks to him I've seen a marriage and the birth of two beautiful daughters. If you are looking for a caring, amazing Opthomologist, open your heart and eyes to Dr Chow. He will help you see.

Yelp
I went to Dr Chow for removal of my Stye. He operated me 2 times but it was not cured. He was even ready to operate the 3rd time. And to my surprise he sent me bills for all 3 visits and charged me for surgery. I made another mistake by taking my wife to his clinic for regular eye checkup (before my 2nd surgery). For preventive visit, his office sent me a bill of more than $200 and the prescription he wrote for the glasses had so much variation than her existing glasses. Dr Chow is very polite and an excellent human being, but I wont recommend him to any one.

Yelp
Dr. Chow is a kind hearted, dedicated, professional, hardworking, lovely doctor. After searching for an ophthalmologist in the Reston area on yelp, Dr. Chow seemed to fit the bill. I am grateful for the reviews AND for Dr. Chow in providing me relief for a badly infected eye. Within 24 hours, my eye was much better and on the way to healing. Dr. Chow was thorough, attentive, made me laugh with some great stories (which helped put me at ease for the procedure for the infection). and was just a delight. If I could give him 100 stars, I would. During my follow up appointment, I happened to overhear Dr. Chow stating that a new client was coming in near closing hours (on a Friday) for a serious issue but could not find a doctor willing to let him book an appointment. Dr. Chow happily accepted this client, even though it meant he and his staff would be kept late at work on Friday. This is a doctor I want to keep. Someone who puts clients and their health first. While in the office, Dr. Chow will say multiple times, "Thank you for allowing me to serve you". And he means it. He is a doctor who loves his job, wants to help, and serves his clients above and beyond. Dr. Chow, allow me to say "Thank you" for being you! You are a diamond of a doctor!!!

Kristina B.

Yelp
Dr. Chow was a nice man but I had a very unpleasant experience at his office. I told him I was having double vision, he checked the optic nerve, and that was it. During the appointment he took a 5-10 min phone call and one of the receptionists came in to talk to him. He barely paid attention to me or the symptoms that I was telling him about. At the end of the appointment he gave me the number for a neurologist and said to call him. Not only was the neurologist rated very low on Yelp but the phone number didn't even work. Today, I saw a neuro-ophthalmologist who was able to diagnose me immediately with strabismus. My eyes were literally turning inwards and Dr. Chow didn't notice. Luckily, my new doctor was able to diagnose what was wrong and start me along the next steps for treatment. I would NOT recommend going to Dr. Chow if you have a serious vision issue going on. The extra copay for a specialty doctor is not worth it. I WON'T be going back!

Yelp
If you have extra time to spare (1 1/2 wait) not for an eye exam and would like to be seen by the dr. 3 times a week and get charged every time then this is the place for you. Went in for an eye stye and was recommend to do surgery each time. The front desk's main concern was to collect payment and insurance information (provided all the details on insurance over the phone prior to the appointment).

Yelp
Dr. Chow was very personable and straight forward. I went there for contacts but found out he would not give me a Rx for them because of my astigmatism. In general, if you are looking for contacts and/or eye glasses you are better off just going to a store versus using Dr. Chow. I went in for contacts and left with nothing more than Rx for new lens. I took off 3 stars because the lady who took my insurance information refused to use my Eyemed insurance until Aetna turned her down. I even told her that Aetna did not provide me eye coverage and she still charged me the Aetna copay and submitted the paper work to Aetna. To top it off, she called me to ask if I would contact my primary care physician to get a referral for my Aetna plan (again having to tell her she should be using my Eyemed insurance). This situation alone is making me not want to ever go back. Needless to say, I'm a little disappointed and I am weary that I am going to be overcharged when I get the final bill.

Yelp
The very best eye surgeon in America. I flew from Florida to have Dr. Chow remove my eye ptgrygium. My first eye was botched by an Emory University surgeon. Dr. Chow did such a good job. My eye is perfect now. Thank you!

Yelp
Fantastic - a caring and extremely competent doctor - efficient and kind and charming - what more can you ask for? I had no problem getting an appointment and a real human answered the phone when I called. I had virtually no wait time when I arrived. The office was clean and the equipment was impressive (I needed several specialized eye tests that are not offered by regular optometrists). Highly recommended.

Homaira B.

Yelp
My kids and I have been patients of Dr. Chow for many years. Our experience has been GREAT! From the ease of making appointment to professional/personal medical care and above all, besides his competent medical care, he has an excellent beside manner. We are so grateful to Dr. Chow and his wonderful staff. Homaira Behsudi-Wali and family

Yelp
Dr.Chow is awesome! He and his staff were able to see me on very short notice. He is very talented, amicable, and quickly put my concerns at ease to resolve my eye issue. Thank you!!

Yelp
This guy kills me. Couldn't get him to shut up. Did a great job updating my oculars and seemed fascinated by every detail of my life, kids, family Worth the price of admission even without the eye exam. Will spend all the time in the world with you and make you feel as if you are his only customer. Just try to ignore me Ha ha ha

Yelp
Dr. Chow consistently provides comprehensive and professional service. I have seen him twice over the years and always receive a very comprehensive eye exam.

Sonia A.

Yelp
Dr. Chow came highly recommended from my PCP and I can see why! Very friendly , quick , and efficient. I 100% recommend this Provider.

Lynn O.

Yelp
Although I did not see Dr. Chow, I did see another doctor in the same office for a pink eye infection. I got charged $234 just for that. Avoid this place if you don't want to be ripped off. Way too expensive. And my eyes are worse.....

Jeri B.

Yelp
Dr. Chow is wonderful, or, as my daughter says, awesome. I first saw him about 10 years ago when I couldn't get an appointment with my former eye doctor. I got his name from the yellow pages, and was able to get an appointment that same day. I went back to him several times, and he asked if I had Diabetes. I didn't have it. During a routine blood test six years ago my doctor discovered that I did have Type 2 Diabetes. Last year Dr. Chow sent me to a retina specialist to check for problems that can occur with Diabetes. He also sent me to a Glaucoma specialist. My daughter had a blocked tear duct three weeks ago, and I gave her Dr. Chow's number. She was also able to get an appointment the same day, was very impressed, and will be taking her twin 5-year old sons to him for an eye checkup. He is very personable, thorough, and takes his time with his patients. He does not push LASIK eye surgery, like the other doctors I have gone to. His office bills the insurance company for you. I highly recommend him.

KG K.

Yelp
WONDERFUL! I have never written a review for a doctor prior to now, but we would highly recommend him to others. He genuinely cares about the well being of his patients and is committed to providing the time to answer your questions. His front office staff was quick, responsive, and friendly. Plenty of parking is available on site for free of charge. Thanks for a great visit!

Yelp
I scheduled an appointment for a very specific problem, not just a routine eye exam or vision test. To schedule the appointment, we provided lots of details on insurance and the medical issue by phone to schedule the appointment. Arrived and filled out all the various paperwork, only to find out that Dr. Chow doesn't accept "obamacare," by which they apparently meant our Anthem BCBS policy, but the way they kept calling it "obamacare," it seemed like they were trying to make a political point. (The policy has opthalmic coverage and lots of other ophthalmologist, even in the same building, on the plan panel -- some plans are choosier than others.) Could have saved us quite a bit of wasted time if they had just admitted they didn't qualify for this plan. Based on another review, it looks like this problem may be staff who answer the phone and fail to recognize which policies are which.

Lally E.

Yelp
Dr. Chow is not only a great doctor, but a great person. I had a problem with my eye that required a procedure with something stuck into my tear duct. It didn't hurt at all in Dr. Chow's capable hands. After my treatment by Dr. Chow, I traveled to Florida for a short vacation. While in Florida, the same problem developed and I saw a local ophthalmologist and got the same procedure. When Dr. Chow did the procedure, it didn't hurt, and didn't cause any irritation at all. When the Florida doctor did the same procedure, it was uncomfortable, and hurt afterward. This demonstrates how skilled and careful Dr. Chow is. He also seems to genuinely care about his patients, and takes his work very seriously. He exemplifies what the medical profession should be -- caring and capable. We are glad Dr. Chow is there in Reston!

Gallagher P.

Yelp
Dr. Chow successfully treated me for a minor eye condition. His office staff was courteous and efficient. Dr. Chow is warm and ebullient and a pleasure to interact with. Of special note, Dr. Chow proved very accommodating to my busy weekday schedule, agreeing to meet with me for a follow-up visit during what seemed to be non-standard office hours. This latter gesture was helpful to me and extraordinary considering the minimal flexibility shown by other doctors in this area.

Matty N.

Yelp
Doctor Chow was amazing, it took him literally 5 minutes to realize it was a BLOCKED TEAR DUCT, something so simple that no one else thought about and I was in terrible pain for 3 days! He treated me like a friend/family member...it's rare to see that kind of care and interest in others in doctors now-a-days; being in business myself, that's called quality care that I can appreciate. The minute he cleared my tear duct the pain/pressure was gone. He's fast and really good at what he does. He is passionate about what he does and his clients' well being....but wouldn't you want someone like that to work on you? He's a specialist so obviously he's gona be a little more expensive than others and people that have no clue. If I had gone to him first, I would have avoided paying for all the emergency visits because my insurance stinks. I will definitely go back to him if or when I need an eye doctor.

B L.

Yelp
Saw Dr. Chow for an eye infection. He prescribed drops for my eye and referred me to an eye specialist. I saw the specialist and she advised me to continue to use the same eye drops. I called Dr. Chow's office to get a refill authorization and spoke to the non-Asian female assistant. She told me she would give my message to Dr. Chow. No one returns my call so I call the pharmacy to find out if the refill had been called in. I was told no one from Chow's office had called the pharmacy. I called Chow's office again and explained the situation again to the same assistant. She put me on hold, not explaining why she put me on hold. After a few minutes she returned to the telephone to tell me that I was contacted and told to get the prescription from the specialist Chow referred me to. I let her know that I was not contacted by anyone in Chow's office. She put me on hold again. A few minutes later I heard Chow's voice on the telephone. Again, the assistant didn't tell me she put me on hold until Chow was able to talk to me. Poor telephone etiquette. Dr. Chow told me that the specialist he referred me to should authorize the prescription. I told him that I should have been told this the first time I called his office and that I saw the eye specialist today and had I known you wouldn't authorize the refill I could have asked the specialist to authorize the prescription. His response was that I was referred to a specialist and the specialist should authorize the prescription. Hello, is anybody home--you already said that. Obviously Chow is not a good listener. Needless to say, I will not be patronizing his business any longer. By the way, no offense, Chow's Asian assistant has a heavy accent and I could barely understand what she says when she talks. In any successful business communication with customers is key.
