Great food, excellent service, we were seated immediately, and our server attended to our needs efficiently without being excessively obtrusive. I had beef spare ribs (kosher place, no pork) and chicken and eggplant in garlic sauce. My wife shared, and she had egg drop soup. Delicious meal. The place was packed because it's Christmas Day. Service was prompt and efficient. Free parking lot out front. Wheelchair accessible. If you're looking for a kosher Chinese restaurant, David Chu's in Pikesville is the place. I recommend it.

Google
It was Mother's Day. I came in and sat waiting for my daughter. No one acknowledged me until my daughter came in. It was 11:30 am. The place opens at 11:15. There was one group already being served. It wasn't crowded. I don't understand why! Food wasn't as good as my first visit. The services wasn't as nice as my first visit. I won't be back, very disappointed. This place is use to people looking a certain way, not in clothes. My bill was $95. Staff was walking past looking and watching. My daughter became very concerned! One lady blew her nose several times and hacking cold without washing her has afterwards. Lots of parking. Located on Reisterstown Rd near 7 mile lane. Kosher food!

Google
Egg drop soup was good but we the wontons were pretty plain and just noodles. The soup was average but I also understand that it is a kosher eatery. Ordered the one soup item and came out to $15 which seemed steep. Overall, I would go again but would want to try other dishes to see if the soup experience was an outlier or the norm. The fried noodles or the Chinese casserole and Moo Goo Gai Pan loo la like other good dishes.

Google
I waited almost two years to come here and was really disappointed. There are huge portions, the price was amazing, and the service was great so I almost want to give it 3 out of 5 stars but it just didn’t live up to the hype of what locals said at all.

Google
Amazing food. Everything is kosher so obviously the tastes differs a bit from the typical american-chinese food. In my opinion, the flavor was less salty, more natural, and subtle. Still everything was so so amazing! I love an authentic taste & this bistro delivers on that. The portions were huge. Bistro style, definitely somewhere you take a group or family! Seating is limited, and big groups reservations are recommended. Staff were lovely!

Google
Customer service here is not the best. Hostess is rude usually and has no manners unfortunately. Other than that food is very delicious. I enjoy getting the general tso chicken with white meat (extra 3 dollars for white meat chicken). The pupu platter is also good just super greasy. Food is on pricier side as it is a kosher restaurant. There is a free parking lot but may not always have parking space available.

Henry Sand

Google
I ate here several years ago knowing it was star-k certified kosher but did not know it was non-jewish owned. Although star-k is very reliable in general (based on a prior mashgiach I know personally) I would highly recommend not relying on star-k for this specific restaurant. That said, the service and food is highly recommended for those who are able to eat there.

Google
The food was delicious and the portions were generous. I took home half of my second appetizer. It's a nice place to eat in but you can also get takeout.

Yelp
Always awesome. Thanks Annie! We love this place, its a classic Kosher staple - friends from other communities LOVE it! Food is good, service is good, Ambiance is classic kosher Chinese!

Yelp
Horrible restaurant service is garbage so not waste your time they will just lie. Food is burnt and disgusting.

Yelp
Let me start off by saying it's KOSHER. So no pork or shellfish. Also, ridiculously expensive prices. Dining-in is pleasant if cramped. (After all, decades ago this was a gas station). All that said, the food can be great one time and mediocre the next. Several months ago my veal lo mein was too salty to eat. When I explained this to the server (for whom English was apparently a third language) she offered no apology or amends so I ordered something else. Hunan beef is excellent as are the beef and chicken lo- mein. They also do an enormous carry-out business. Parking can also be a problem. About 2 mi down the road is the KB Grill which does better kosher Chinese although without the ambiance.

Yelp
My Husband found this place on Yelp. We wanted Chinese Food and didn't want to have to travel too far to our main Chinese spot, this place is not too far from our Home. We had no idea this place was here, we're passed this place plenty of times on our way to another Restaurant we frequent and it's across the street from here, Lol. We came for a late lunch, the dining room was empty. So we got seated right away. The Lady immediately brought us Water and Wonton Chips with Sweet and Sour Sauce. Then another Lady came and took out orders. We ordered a variety of dishes, everything came out fast and hot. Everything was delicious, but we didn't care for the Chicken Dumplings. We had plenty of Leftovers to take Home. We are planning on returning to try other dishes and this place is also Kosher too. The Staff was friendly.

Yelp
Always wanted to try this place. Not disappointed! The chicken and broccoli was excellent with the brown ginger sauce. Tasted the other dishes and neither disappointed! Will definitely be back as family moved to the area and gives a reason to be back again and again!

Yelp
I have traveled to many countries. I have eaten in many Chinese restaurants. I tell you that David Chu's China Bistro is the worst! Even the rice was not cooked, which is a shame and very worrying. On the other hand, for the price, they are good with the numbers! Really too high for this terrible quality. Please go your way, and don't stop. It is, I repeat, the worst Chinese restaurant where I ate, and also it was dirty.
google avatar

Kelli J.

Yelp
Had a taste for Chinese food and wanted a dine-in experience. Tried out this spot. The small parking lot was pretty full but we were seated right away. The prices were a bit high in my opinion for the portion size but maybe because it was kosher. The egg rolls and fried noodles were good. My beef and broccoli was ok. Service was great but food was just ok for the price.

Diana S.

Yelp
it has been a few years since I have been to this restaurant. I remember enjoying it. Sadly, today was not the case. The hot and sour soap and egg roll were decent. However, the kung pao chicken was so sweet and gloopy it was barely edible. I won't go back. It was expensive and not good at all.

Yelp
Lovely place, authentic, affordable, staff are helpful and diverse. Lots of items from the menu which is hard to pick. I would recommend coming back here. I went to the Taam Thai sushi & Asian Fusion and that was a rip off. $65 for 2 dishes + 20% gratuity added to the bill for the face-ring girl is sitting on her phone. David Chu's for the win here, clear winner

Yelp
Don't be fooled by its exterior appearance. I was about ready to turn around when we arrived since it didn't look kept up. But we entered anyway, and were seated quickly. For a weekday lunch, it had a good amount of people. We got a couple of things to try from the menu (couldn't find these on the online menu). We got the baked salmon which was really delicious and served hot! And we also got another dish (I can't remember its name) but it had a mix of beef, slightly fried chicken strips, eggs, mushrooms, and vegetables served over a bed of the rice of your choice. It was definitely different from what we would normally order from a Chinese restaurant. The chicken pieces were really tasty. I also liked that they had free appetizers (crispy wontons with a sweet dipping sauce) and house tea. You can't get a lot of those these days.

Yelp
Great food and service--which are hard to come by in this neighborhood, to be honest! Last Saturday, we enjoyed a fantastic supper. We enjoyed this Chinese restaurant, which I hadn't visited in two months. Here is my honest opinion. We had made arrangements ahead of time and were seated quickly when we arrived. By removing all seafood items and using gluten-free soy sauce, they were able to suit my sister's food allergies and restrictions. Our lunch arrived quickly after we placed our order and was delicious. We placed many orders. Everything was fantastic. We'll be back as soon as possible!

Yelp
the photos are old******* price change$$$carryoverkung pao chicken but the food is really good and filling. better off dining in because it's a restaurant. i think its a dine in restaurant with really busy delivery

Melissa G.

Yelp
Kosher restaurant. Excellent restaurant with fast service and pleasant atmosphere. The food is terrific! I usually order typically "Chinese" food, and I'm super happy with the selection. Best Won Ton soup ever! My husband is more adventurous; he varies his orders, and has yet to be displeased. Opens after Shabbos during the winter months,

Yelp
We saw the four star rating and thought it would be delicious. Upon arrive we noted the multiple Zagat ratings and our anticipation excelled. Much to our absolute dismay the food was LESS than recommendable. I asked for extra nuts because I love this dish. Incredible mistake. The Kung Pao Chicken was missing every notable ingredient except the chicken and nuts. I had a huge bowl of chicken and nuts in a thick BROWN gelatinous gravy solidifying at the bottom of the bowl. It was completely flavorless regardless of abundance of nuts and celery. FLAVOR-LESS. My Godmother had the General Tao's Chicken. I can't describe it. It will make me Nauseous. We tried the Chicken Toast appetizer because it was new to us. We thought it was an interesting concept that would have been more appealing if it had any flavor (seasoning). Our server was perplexed because I did not want to take any of my food home. My Godmother was much kinder than I. She threw her food away once we left. I should have asked for a refund. It was that bad. When conveying this to our server she simply looked helpless. We did not pursue the matter any further. We chalked it up to "this place was a mistake" and vowed to never return. *** Don't believe the 4 rating. It was a lie. ***

Yelp
Didn't have flavor but I guess everything was kosher Service was good. Ambiance was cool was empty at the time

Yelp
The food was delicious and fresh, nice portions. Have ordered several times from there. Never been inside. The front outside looks regular nothing stands out.

Yelp
Outstanding chinese in lovely setting!!!!! Though selections limited to kosher dishes, plenty variety of first-rate chinese that makes you want to come back over and over for more and more. Some of the very best Chinese in Baltimore!!!!!

Yelp
Tried their General Tso's chicken & their hot and sour soup - best Chinese food I've had in a WHILE. & it's Kosher. The General Tso's was made with all white meet (upon request) and the sauce tasted amazing. Had it with fried rice. & their hot and sour soup was flavorful. This will definitely be added to my list of favorite food spots.

Vintrel B.

Yelp
They'll get a 4 out of 5 because the food is amazing but the staff is a little racist.. I called for delivery they lady answered the phone and told me my apartment was too far I told her it's only 4mins away.. then she asked if I was aware of their prices before I even placed an order.. I said ma'am I would like to order PLEASE... she said well do you know we're kosher... I then repeated myself I WOULD LIKE TO ORDER... the whole situation was upsetting but overall the food is great.

Yelp
I've been here twice with my boyfriend's kids and the food is yummy. I love the orange chicken and the kids loved the sesame chicken and general tso's chicken and egg drop soup. Also good and fast service! They also have very generous portions.
google avatar

Yelp
Great service, good prices, fresh food, tastes very good. Has traditional (American) Chinese food fare and a decent sushi bar too. Worth it! Advise you to make reservation, lunch and dinner time can be very busy. Zagat rated, local celebrity fave, long time in business.

Lindsey N.

Yelp
Chinese food is very fresh and delicious. But the prices are very high with small portion sizes. I would go more if the combination plates were a few dollars cheaper.
google avatar

Donald Malcolm S.

Yelp
Wow!!!! The food was amazing. I ordered several entrees for my daughters 18th birthday. It was fan-tastic!!!! Can't wait to visit again.
google avatar

Denny M.

Yelp
Had the schezuan beef, Mongolian beef and Kung pao chicken. The beef dishes were very good. The chicken dish was good as well but a little too sweet for my taste. Best American Chinese I've had in a while and definitely best in area.
google avatar

Yelp
High prices are to be expected in a kosher restaurant, but the quality is high. And the portions are large, you WILL have leftovers. I especially love their chicken egg foo yung. It is a fried dish, but isn't a bit greasy. The chicken is all white meat and very tender. At $17.95, it seems expensive, but I always have enough leftovers for 2 more meals

Yelp
This food was perfect. I got Veggie lo mein for dinner; the flavor was so good that I saved some for lunch the next day. My only complaint would be the service. The ladies were moving very fast and it feels like they're waiting for you to leave. When theres a bit of food left on your plate, they ask "are you done?", when the check comes they repeatedly come back checking if it's been paid and they don't welcome lengthy conversation. I will carryover here, no problem :)

Yelp
David Chu's is *the* place to go for kosher Chinese in Baltimore. Yes, there are other establishments that serve kosher Chinese cuisine in the area (among other items), but this is the one place where you get the whole package. Before moving out of state, my family and I were regulars here for years, and I was excited to come back for dinner on a recent trip back to my hometown. OK, without further ado! Here is my lowdown on the good and the not so good about David Chu's: Location: Central to the Jewish community on Reisterstown Road, in the heart of Pikesville. Parking is limited to a handful of spaces directly in front of the restaurant, and a few more along both sides. I can imagine how challenging it must be to find parking on a really busy night, so plan ahead. Atmosphere: Not too big; not too small. Decent amount of seating available in different sections of the restaurant (front, side, and the back which also serves as a party room). It's got the typical Far East-inspired theme going on, which is nice. There's not a lot of natural light though, and the lighting inside is fairly dim. Overall the restaurant is quite clean. Food: Heavy, but delicious. I ate here twice and got the sesame chicken on my first visit, which was good, but the sauce is thick and VERY glutenous (see pic). The next visit I ordered the beef and string beans, which was outstanding! Perfectly stir-fried and the portion was generous. The wonton soup and chicken dumplings were very tasty as well. They'll also serve you tea and chips with duck sauce (standard appetizer), which were alright. Service: Consistent, which is something that is very important to me in any restaurant experience. I dined here two nights in a row and both times, the service exuded exactly the same efficiently, and the waitstaff were polite. Overall, David Chu's offers a good value in its food and quality of service. Check them out if you're looking for something kosher and Chinese when in Northwest Baltimore.

Yelp
While waiting to pick up our food on Sunday, several ladies were working at a small table behind the cashier station. They were cutting up dough and pulling the pieces on a large tray. A piece fell on the floor and the woman who dropped it scooped it off the floor and threw it back on the tray. Horrified, I pointed it out to the women at the cashier's station. They tried to ignore me, but I kept saying "They dropped it on the floor; where people walk. It's disgusting!" They gave me dirty looks and finally one woman said "OK, we'll throw it out", but she never spoke to the women doing the cutting and they grabbed the tray that was piled high and went back to the kitchen. In hindsight, I should have asked for the Mashgiach. I tried calling the restaurant several times later but the phone was always busy. Thought the public should know. Last time we're patronizing this place.

Christopher B.

Yelp
The food quality was excellent. Freshly fried white meat chicken, the sauce was delicious, and on the sweeter side. Presentation was great, counter service was pleasant. Totally pleased with my experience (3rd time here and what I say was consistent with the last 2 expeirences). Definitely give them a try.

Yelp
We drive from Delaware to get David Chu's the people are wonderful and the food is the best never had a bad meal here . Well worth the trip.

Yelp
I love some veggie soup like ginger and mushroom. I need more heal from having some cold.

Daniel C.

Yelp
Had no idea what to expect, but the service was top of the line. We loved the crispy noodles/ chips. The tea was wonderful and I would pit their house lo mein against anyones.

Yelp
Always my favorite, even when I lived in NYC! "As good as traif" Last visited November 17, 2016 The Hot & Sour soup is a winner. Everyone in our party ordered it! Baltimore, with a wide variety of kosher establishments, has a real jewel that has provided quality and excellence for over a decade: David Chu's. Certified by Star-K. The ambiance is more upscale than the typical "heimishe" (home-style) places or pizza joints. Here you are seated at a white tablecloth covered table under gentle lighting. It is always busy, but when I've been there at its busiest times, there is no overpowering noise. The waitstaff are pleasant and efficient. The hostess came over during the meal to see how we fared. It is a type of elegance that is not common at the average kosher restaurant. The exterior is plain and not too attractive. Inside is not very modern, but is comfortable and not worn-looking. Tasty food is served hot, in good sized portions, and can be made to order. On a previous visit, when I requested no sugar or honey, they complied with no questions. You can get white, fried, or brown rice with the meal. The prices are not extravagant. They have a well-apportioned sushi bar although I did not choose those selections. Some of my party had lamb, others chicken or beef. All the vegetables were fresh and the platters were attractive. On this most recent occasion I had fried tofu with mushrooms, and it was very flavorful. Served with steaming tea and topped off with a fortune cookie at the end. My non-kosher friends enjoy this place, and although they can choose to go to "traif" (non-kosher) [and cheaper] restaurants, they will suggest David Chu's. I like this restaurant better than any I've encountered--even in New York!

Jennifer K.

Yelp
The food always tastes good, but i always get the shits. Joke's on me I guess! So in short, if you enjoy beef and broccoli, definitely give it a try. On the plus side, you'll lose some weight!

H D.

Yelp
Underwhelmed. Been at David Chu's a few times over the years, but it doesn't seem as good as it once was. Even though it wasn't crowded at all, service seemed slow and at times inattentive; a couple dishes were brought out in wrong order. Table condiments were missing, though the restaurant, table, and floor were clean. Our food was cooked fine except the vegetable fried rice was overcooked and the only vegetables were 2 green peas that had been cooked almost colorless. Rest of the food wasn't bad, but just bland in flavor, with sloppy presentation. Soups and sauces had slightly gummy texture, perhaps from addition of too much thickening starch. I'd rather eat at the other kosher restaurants in the area because David Chu's didn't leave us much reason to look forward to a return visit.
google avatar

John A.

Yelp
Very enjoyable and great service. Some of the sauces were a little overly sweet, but overall excellent.
google avatar

Gary R.

Yelp
My family and I just finished dinner. Delicious as always, with quick and efficient service. We had steamed dumplings, curry chicken, lettuce wraps and cashew chicken. Also dishes were hot and tasty. It's worth the hour drive!
google avatar

Aviva A.

Yelp
The Good: Great food. I've had non-kosher Chinese food, and David Chu's is just as good! Their fried rice is great, as are their soups. Even their french fries aren't bad. I've brought plenty of non-Jewish friends here who have loved it. The Bad: I really, really wish that they had a few healthy options. I always leave David Chu's feeling bloated and gross. The sushi isn't gross, it's just not very good. The service is slow, especially if you're with a big group, but if it's just one or two people it's great. Takeout always efficient, though. Beware of going the night before Jewish holidays--it's usually packed. The Ugly: Their parking lot isn't so great, it's only functional and safe if there is only one other car there.

Yelp
My family has been comming here for longer than i can remember. Its so refreshing to have a chinese bistro thats glatt kosher. One of my favorite dishes there is the bistro special There has never been a time my family has had anything but excellent service.
google avatar

Daniel C.

Yelp
We ate lunch with about 4 different dishes. Nice to sit there and the service is courteous and the price is fine except for the food itself which was not so tasty.
google avatar

Ian W.

Yelp
I say this only as somebody who doesn't care about kosher food, sorry i'm gonna pay these crazy prices.. obviously I am not their target customer. I'm sure if you keep kosher it's great and you are used to the inflated prices. As for me I find the wing-wah just down the street offers similar ambiance at more normal prices.

A P.

Yelp
I ordered food for 30 people and had it delivered. Amy was great. Everything was delicious, piping hot and right on time. Sesame chicken(white meat), chicken fried rice, egg rolls and chicken wings. Thanks again Any.....
google avatar

Yossi G.

Yelp
I love this place. The sushi is great and they have no problems customizing any dish I want. Amy is amazing to deal with and the entire staff is very welcoming. Their lunch and dinner combos are very reasonable and they always give a lot of food. I highly recommend this place!
google avatar

Batya C.

Yelp
David Chu's is a solid greasy American Chinese place. The food is about the same quality you'd find at any Chinese restaurant in the US, kosher or otherwise. However, it is fairly pricey (kosher meat is expensive!), and for what most of the meat dishes cost ($15-20), I think they could be using higher quality meat. The lunch and dinner specials are a good deal, and the sushi is quality. They give large portions (for dinner, just one order of a meat dish is enough for two), and allow you to choose how spicy you want certain dishes to be prepared. The only reason I didn't give David Chu's 4 stars is the quality of the meat used.
google avatar

Michael S.

Yelp
Great food choices, friendly staff, great service. On top of that, everything is kosher! Only downside is that it can get a little stuffy and crowded in there especially on busy nights.
google avatar

Eden A.

Yelp
Nice and pleasant restaurant to sit in. The waitress was sweet and made our experience more enjoyable. I've had better food in other Chinese restaurants but I'll probably go there again.

Michael B.

Yelp
This is a classic Chinese restaurant that feels and looks like the clock stopped in the 1960s. Quite flavorful "Chinese" dishes, very good wanton soup that seemed to be a beef broth rather than chicken, standard fried rice, good but not great entrees (we prefer spicier than they serve) with very reasonable pricing -- a full multi-course lunch for two with tip was $30!
google avatar

Diane B.

Yelp
Very friendly and polite staff. Smelled delicious inside. They had 2 tables of take out orders ready to go. Got my gift certificate right away, can't wait to dine there!

Noa B.

Yelp
David Chu's is one of my favorite restaurants in the area. The space is a bit small if you are coming with a big group, but the food is great!. I especially like the general Tsao chicken.
