Where To Eat Down The Shore: Long Beach Island - New York - The Infatuation

"From the lighthouse and state park to the massive mini-golf course that’d give Happy Gilmore fits (with or without Chubbs), there are a lot of reasons you might find yourself in Barnegat Light. So you should know about Daymark, a year-round American spot from the people behind The Arlington that works for all kinds of dining situations. Come during brunch and get the fried oysters with syrupy grits or the breakfast burger (a pork roll, egg, and cheese on top of a patty). Or, stop by for Happy Hour (4-7pm every day) at the big, rectangular bar, or for dinner when there’s usually live music." - Matt Tervooren, Tonya Russell

We’ve been coming to Barnegat Light for 4 years and like to stay in town and eat. We keep giving this place a chance and have awful experiences every-time. The service isn’t warm and friendly and we never see a manager checking on anyone. Had to send our NY steak back twice- ordered medium and came raw then came out rare again - the kitchen barely replated the steak and just scraped the little mashed potatoes into a pile and threw the cut up steak back on top. If a guest has to send back a 43 dollar steak twice a manger should be aware and check in. Wish this place would get its act together and have a friendly warm environment with good food. We won’t be returning.

The food was fantastic!! Unique and really specially made. My family enjoyed a variety of things from the menu, as well as one of the evening's specials and it was all an experience. Server was sweet and patient as we took our time for my birthday.

Food was great! Loved the strawberry shortcake and the eggplant. Cocktails were creative as well Service was a bit weird. Food runner dropped the food offf without appropriate condiments or checking that we had utensils

Finally made it to daymark after wanting to come here forever and it did NOT disappoint. Came for lunch and got the burger, wings, and crab fingers. 10/10 will come back and order the crab fingers every time- they were AMAZING. Such a cool place.

I ordered a chicken Caesar salad to go. I received a text stating the food was ready. I had to wait over 20 minutes at the restaurant before my food was brought out. It was over 30 minutes since I received the text, until I got my food. The manager in the black shirt gave me attitude when I asked for an update 15 minutes in and did not help out or check in on the to go order. The manager in the white shirt with blue leaves on it actually helped and figured out why the order had not been brought out. Kudos to him. The chicken Caesar salad is also very small for being $25.

Daymark offers the perfect blend of quality seafood dishes with an incredible ambiance. Situated near the Barnegat Lighthouse and wrapped with large windows bringing in plenty of natural light, Daymark offers a certain feeling of comfort as soon as you step inside. The manager, Brandon, was charming and familiar with the menu. He brought his favorite recommendations for food and suggested the right drinks to compliment our meal. Our waitress was courteous and friendly, going out of her way to entertain our two children as they insisted to "order on their own" for the first time. The food was DELICIOUS! We started with a calamari and goat cheese gnocchi appetizers - both fresh and light. For dinner, we tried the crab cake special and organic chicken. Portions were very fair (& filling) and both were bursting with flavor. The drinks were strong with well-balanced flavors. Daymark offers a huge bar, too, which looks like a great place to hang out for happy hour. Overall, I would strongly recommend checking out this spot. While it's definitely a bit of a drive for anyone not already on LBI, it's certainly worth making it a planned destination when you're in the mood for finer dining!

Google
I love that this place is local. I would come more often if there was more music. The band on July 4th weekend was great! We need more of that! It’s a great venue, more locals will come And everyone will make money. For the adults kids that don’t want to go to surf city or beach haven, this is perfect!!!

Google
A bunch of friends went out to dinner, 8 total. We split a bunch of appetizers, and ordered more food than we needed. Wait staff was friendly and accommodating, attentive but not overbearing. They let us enjoy ourselves but were quick with drinks. Food was well prepared and plated with flair. The facility was moderate; comfortable for a wide range of clients.

Yelp
Let me begin by saying that this place is absolutely beautiful and visually appealing. The food is phenomenal, with outstanding taste, flavor, and quality--definitely a great value for your money. The staff are very friendly and helpful. It is definitely worth checking out, and it will be a staple for every vacation I take to LBI. P.S. the "old old Fashion" was great too ;)

Yelp
Very much a north island local bar feel. Low key but great service. That said... we had a group of 7 which included my 16-year old son. Happy hour is at the bar only, my son could not sit at the bar. We had to split our group for happy hour and sneak the oysters to my dad and they paid full price for drinks. Not cool. Come on...

Yelp
I have been coming to DayMark since it opened. I have in the past written a mixed review, but here's the key. If you are going to stop at Daymark.. sit at the bar order some fabulous drinks. They make an awesome martini and an equally awesome Manhattan. Then order the oysters, which are fresh from Barnegat Bay . The calamari is also excellent. Life is great at the bar at Daymark even with for non-drinkers you will not be dissatisfied. Very festive and friendly . Terrific bartenders !

Yelp
Low key delicious apps and beverages during the day at the end of the earth.. gotta make it your business to stop in here. Calamari , crab fingers which I don't think anyone else is doing and blackened wings were all delicious. Nice mix of beers on draft and can/ bottle for the crew to chill with. Pay our respect to Ol Barney and play some mini golf on a nice day. Day mark was the perfect spot to kick off the afternoon.

Yelp
i have really wanted to like this restaurant since it opened. I have gone back many times to give it another try but this evening was it for my husband and myself. Their food is the worst. The menu is horrible. it looks like most people only go for oysters. Well I hope they hire a cook that knows how and what people want. it's a head scratcher how they can still be open.

Yelp
A group of 5 of us had dinner in April 2025 at Daymark. We were seated at a booth by the window away from the main door, with a nice peek of a water view outside. The atmosphere here is quite lively - if you are looking for a more intimate setting, you might be better off elsewhere. Jackie, our server, was a superstar - we all made modifications to our main dishes, which she easily accommodated and made sure were correct. In fact, we all had different variations of the swordfish, which was delicious for $33 a plate. The fillet could have been a tad bit larger, but it was very fresh and perfectly prepared. We did start with mussels and calamari as appetizers. Mussels were great, calamari was a-ok (pieces were a bit small but very tasty). A great dinner spot on LBI - a favorite of locals and visitors alike!

Yelp
Daymark is personally my favorite spot on the island! 10/10 recommend for any meal! This is a must stop if you are staying down by the lighthouse. This bayside restaurant sits nestled along the sandy shore, a mere block away from the gentle lapping waves of the ocean- Whether day or nighttime you're guaranteed to eat with a view! Daymark has a scrumptious seafood menu that will drive your tastebuds wild! Whether you're enjoying the swordfish, a crispy fish sandwich, or simply a burger you will not be disappointed. I could go on and on about the food but I'll leave you with this... The bartender recommended we try the crab fingerlings.... Oh my god, i've never tasted an app so good!! The dish was served with enough crab for 2-4 people, and was decadent!! From the flavorful broth to the crostini to the crab itself, we were blown away.

Yelp
Pretty good experience at Daymark. Place has a bright and airy look. Had a nice large booth with a good window view. Was a slower night so a nice comfortable vibe. But on a packed summer night, I'd be worried about the noise level as there is no real separation from the large bar. Food for the most part was good. Started with the clams which came out cold. Once corrected, they were good but needed some white wine in the sauce to offset all the butter. Wings were small but tasty. Although I found their rub just a bit too salty for my taste. As for the entrees, I really enjoyed the pork chop. Perfectly cooked, moist, and tasty bacon infused sauce. Swordfish was small, dry, and in desperate need of a sauce. Two different kids meals, both disappointing. Who gives kids fried new potatoes and the burger was 2 oz at best. Service was just ok. Sorta friendly, sorta efficient. Was missing in action a couple of times. Really don't like having to tip via a handheld while the server is standing over me. Prices by the way seem reasonable by LBI standards. But then you realize that they are reflective of portion size. Draft beer was great! Fresh and icy cold. Probably wouldn't make a special trip back but would surely go again after a lighthouse climb or jetty stroll.

Yelp
Ever since the Daymark has opened, we have loved coming here - so much so that we have made the trip two years in a row - ON my birthday (Happy Birthday to me!!). The second we walked in, the bartender (Greg) recognized us, and we got to catching up - picking up right where we left off a year ago - like old friends. So friendly and attentive (as always!!). This time, we started with some cocktails ... bourbon neat for him, and for me, the Lolita (Tequila, Aperol, Simple, Lemon & Lime). GREAT cocktail - flavors were balanced and super light and refreshing. Then we had some appetizers (as you do when you sit at the bar). I started with a dozen Oysters (Tuckers) that were so wonderful - I could have had 24 more. Hubby then had the meatballs - a special for today - they were light & airy, and didn't fall apart (just could have used a toast point to soak up that delicious sauce!!). Then came the Chicken Tacos (Happy Hour menu)... HOLY HELL were these good - a little kick from the marinade, but cooled off with the creama on top. After that, we delighted in the always wonderful Cacio e Pepe - something not on the menu, but ALWAYS a good choice - beautifully balanced and creamy - the Bucatini (just like spaghetti but with hollow centers) is a fantastic choice. Now granted, we were here for 2+ hours... so then we had the Crab Fingers - ALWAYS a crowd-pleaser - so delicious and the PERFECT seafood-town snacking food. We also got the Grilled Romaine - no joke, top 5 Caesar Salads I've ever had - the romaine is *slightly* wilted, but perfect and the dressing is a damn revelation. Finally, we had the Apple Crisp (because, birthday)... and DAMN that was delicious. The apples were perfectly cooked and the crumble was addicting. Thank you again, Daymark, for an amazing Birthday!! We can't wait for our next trip!

Yelp
Great happy hour at Daymark. As of mid September they have happy hour weekdays 4-6 pm (closed Wednesdays). There were drink specials on well drinks, wine, and beer. We chose the well drinks for $6 each. Happy hour food specials too, we got wings and chicken tacos for $8 each. Both were really good and large portions for the price. We also got a non happy hour app, the yellowfin tuna tartare served with garlic toast points. Fresh and local caught, it was excellent. We also had dessert - brown butter strawberry shortcake, which was fantastic! We finished up with a couple of espresso martinis (not on the happy hour menu). Service was fantastic all night and the restaurant has a cool vibe. The bar area is large, so it can accommodate a lot of people for happy hour. Check it out!!

Yelp
Had a great brunch there this weekend. A little quiet on the weekend before Thanksgiving, but food and service was excellent.

Joel O.

Yelp
We had a delicious meal here. Tuna tasted amazingly fresh, the oysters were among the best I've had anywhere, terrific fish sandwich. Cocktails were delicious too; and the prices seemed reasonable considering the location. It does get pretty loud, with the lively bar scene; and they maybe keep the air conditioning cranked up a little too much, or they did last night anyway. Otherwise, an excellent place to eat.

Taylor G.

Yelp
Amazing food! Loved the vibe and the food was absolutely delicious. The potatoes were so warm and melty and buttery. 10/10

Yelp
I went for Mother's Day with my mother and her best friend and the decor is absolutely adorable and I was looking forward to hopefully a " Mother's Day Brunch " type menu but they did not have that for some reason . I could smack myself. I didn't think to take pictures until AFTER the meal - seeing as during the meal discussions became tense ( well it is Mother's Day - what do you expect ) I ordered a drink that was forgettable honestly ( it wasn't BAD - It just also was not amazing but again that could have been my fault ) I ordered steamed clams and an tuna tartar appetizer both absolutely EXCELLENT and for seafood lovers the tartar dish was vibrant and just refreshing - as well as the pita I asked to use as dippy helper. As a meal I ordered eggs Benedict over crab cakes. It was just alright - I was looking more for a seafood tower or scallops dish and that was my fault for not calling ahead of time- but my mother and her best friend absolutely loved it and enjoyed their meals very much. My mother ordered the local yellowfin which came which bbq flavor and kimchi and she been raving about it for days. Her BFF ordered a pasta with clams and I am usually weary about clams but they were cooked perfectly. The service was phenomenal overall. My server was extremely sweet and accommodating as was the busser helping out . I really loved the atmosphere- and decor ( anywhere that doesn't have carpet is automatically winning with me ) it didn't feel stuffy and it felt very welcoming and friendly . I will absolutely go again and I would highly recommend this restaurant to seafood enthusiasts and "outsiders" I saw some none seafood dishes on there as well.

Yelp
Stopped by for happy hour Friday. Ordered calamari and conch fritters and some drinks. Service good. Calamari was very good. Not the original plan but worked out well.

Yelp
Literally my favorite restaurant on Earth. Great drinks, refined food, fun live music and a fantastic ambiance. Yelp, any non-5-Star reviews are clearly fraudulent!

James M.

Yelp
I was pretty disappointed by the portions and I am definitely not a big eater. This is the first time in awhile I walked out of a place hungry. The swordfish dish I got was very good but way to small. Raise the price a few bucks a provide a decent portion! The place itself is really nice and the vibe is great but with so many great options on LBi I probably won't be back.
google avatar

Jack M.

Yelp
Overpriced food and drinks. $3 plus for oysters that were pulled out of the water locally. Kids sized entree portions. Happy hour doesn't extend to tables, which is unfortunate if you have kids and want to partake. Fish on fish sandwich was awful, maybe frozen. Toasted bun was too charred from grill and had a burnt flavor. And the potatoes tasted like they were cooked an hour before service and kept under a warming lamp.

Amy L.

Yelp
Great food, excellent service and relaxed ambiance create a comfortable dining experience.

Liz B.

Yelp
Food was great as were the drinks! Greg the bartender was fun and attentive! I will definitely go back again!

Nolan G.

Yelp
Food was dry. Also they put variations to food that does not work. My food had no flavour and would not recommend this place.

Yelp
Hubby and I went to the Shore for a few nights. Yelp helped us find some really great restaurants. One of them being Daymark. We started out with drinks, P had an Barrel Aged Manhattan I chose a craft beer "Allagash White" it was amazing. We started out with an appetizer of Korean BBQ Ribs Kimchee. We both loved the flavor and the little heat in every bite. P ordered the special Scallops in a corn sauce , he had been wanting scallops for some time and these were just what he was craving. Caught that morning right near the Daymark he couldn't have asked for fresher scallops. I ordered the filet Mino Kimchee

Yelp
I am staying with my family not far from this restaurant, since we have a big party we wanted to go out for our first night in what we believed was a great spot. To our disappointment... It started out ok. It was pretty busy but we started to notice after our apps, we looked around and it started to clear out and noticed tables that arrived after us were being served their entrees. Mind you, we realize if it was pretty busy we'd have to wait longer but we had waited over an hour after apps for our entrees! and after trying to get in touch with our server it's like she tried to dodge us then finally comes back and tells us that the "kitchen F*^ked up" as brought us the wrong food. We all got really simple meals most of us got the special and the fact that the last people seated after an HOUR or more of us being there was being served their entrees before us made us pretty upset. When they finally did bring us our food the meat was over cooked and the sides were cold. Maybe we would have been more understanding if they apologized at least or maybe even comped something maybe even a dessert, something! but nothing... After spending a ridiculous amount of money on poor quality service and food we made our way out and would never return. I feel like they should have some sort of manager especially on a busy night guiding and looking over their patrons. I guess they just don't care.

Rich Braverman ..

Yelp
Food preparation, presentation and taste were perfect. Serving size and cost were disappointing.
google avatar

Elizabeth S.

Yelp
Ordered takeout tonight and they forgot to give us 2 entrees and one appetizer. We had to drive all the way back, the food was cold and the steak was extremely fatty.

Yelp
Food is great Service is great everything was really good. Can't wait to go back and meet the smiling faces again. Love the vibe

Yelp
August 10,2023 Excellent service . There was great care given for multiple food allergies (gluten peanut tree nut ) for our group of 16. The chef really went above and beyond for the family. Excellent food. Great evening!

Yelp
We cannot say enough amazing things about our wedding experience at the Daymark! From start to finish Paul & Brian were responsive and collaborative. The vibe and looks of the upstairs party room were beautiful and set the stage for our Mediterranean garden party by the beach disco vibes, not that it needed additional decor but they did allow us to add our own DIY elements that only enhanced the space. The service, food, and drinks were delicious and so good! Paul and the rest of the Daymark staff were attentive and helpful from the day we inquired to the end of our wedding night, to picking up our decor the next day. Everything was just so easy and so well put together. We would 100% recommend the Daymark to anyone who is looking for a unique and colorful wedding space, with an amazing team and food. 10/10 experience and SO glad we had our ceremony (rain plan which had to be used) and reception there. They were collaborative and so helpful with each of our vendors. We truly can't wait to just come and eat the food and reminisce about our amazing day.
google avatar

Yelp
All the seafood tasted frozen, even though this is a restaurant right by the ocean. The calamari is wayyy too salty. Seems like someone dumped a salt shaker on here. Do not come!!!
google avatar

Sebastian R.

Yelp
I went to Daymark LBI again I honestly love this place so much. We had curry cauliflower with roasted veggies, wings, and the salmon. We also had crab fingers and oysters for appetizers!!! Best oysters and wings ever. So good and of course the drinks were delicious as well! @Sebbybelly on Instagram
google avatar

Jackson S.

Yelp
It has the best burger I've had in a long time and my friend used to beg me to go but know it it the other way around!
google avatar

Brian M.

Yelp
The Daymark had nice variety to their menu and the food for the most part was tasty, but the portions were very very small for the price. The burger and fish dishes were a hit with our group, butthe calamari appetizer was tiny and seemed like it came out of a bulk bag of frozen calamari. The atmosphere was nice and the server was excellent. Personally I left still feeling a bit hungry.

Jolanta B.

Yelp
The food was great ! will come back whenever i'm near by.! Crab Cake Sandwich amazing !

Ernest G.

Yelp
Good food. Crab cakes with Remoulade!. Best crab cakes I've had in years. Crab fingers were delicious. House salad was very good and shareable. The service was outstanding and prompt and helpful. I thought the menu was limited, but I'm only passing through. Not loud. Very calm and peaceful.
google avatar

Yelp
Been coming here for years since they opened. Summer of 22 food has slipped a bit. Seems like they want to be a bar more than a high end restaurant. Happy Hour is a blast the entrees not so much.
google avatar

Dave B.

Yelp
I have been eating at Daymark since they first opened. I really enjoy their happy hour, the $1 oysters are a great deal. The bartenders are also wonderful. But recently the food has been on a downward trend. Ordered take out a few times this summer and every time the food seemed to have gotten worse. The burgers, sandwiches and main entrees seem to be shrinking, but the prices seem to be rising. I know with the pandemic food costs are crazy, however that is a a poor excuse to let the quality of the food suffer. The burger once came with decent house made potato chips, but more recently it is being served with these grease bomb smashed potatoes, that are pretty disgusting. Please stop trying to reinvent the wheel and maybe serve the burger with some hand cut kennebec potato fries.

Michelle M.

Yelp
Very disappointed. My first time here and waited over an hour for our entrees with no apologies. The food came out overcooked and cold. Our drinks were weak. Most places would have given some of discount or comp our drinks. At least some desserts would've been nice.
google avatar

Ann M.

Yelp
Good local restaurant. The bar is great to watch sports and have dinner if you don't have a reservation. Happy about the menu additions, especially the sides. Sorry about the dance floor collapse last weekend and hope it reopens soon
google avatar

Val L.

Yelp
Went here during local summer time. It was so good!! We really enjoyed our dinner. Was clean and the staff was super nice!!
google avatar

Yelp
Such a great menu for a little out of the way place. Staff is great. Bartenders are on their game. Best time to go is the off season.

Johanna D.

Yelp
I feel like this place is hit or miss with the food. The first time we went, when they first opened we thought it was great. Following year we went and they forgot the ramen noodles in our ramen order hmm. Anyway we told the waitress and she gave us a new bowl no problem. I forget what else we ordered that time but it wasn't anything amazing. Underwhelmed with the food for the prices. We went again two days ago and the food was great!!! Soo soo good. I agree with previous reviews that it is so incredibly loud. Its so hard to have a conversation. Other than that we will be back again this summer hoping for another amazing meal. Highly recommend the scallop special. Buratta appetizer was meh. Not enough cheese, too many tomatoes.

Michael B.

Yelp
Staff was friendly Food was good One of the best crab cake sandwiches!!!! My old fashion was on point

Karina S.

Yelp
I love this place. Maybe I just luck out every time I come here but the food is always delicious and the service is great! I went yesterday with a couple friends and we sat at bar. We had the friendliest bar tender who took very good care of us specially with all of our drink modifications :-) He deserves a medal.... Too bad that we didn't get his name!

Gosia M.

Yelp
I've been using yelp for years, but this is my first review ever! This place has wonderful, quality food with some great seafood options. Loved the pickle :)) We were there off season, mid May. Great find.

Ed D.

Yelp
We had dinner here last night and it was fabulous. Scallops were superb - and I've had a lot of scallops. Great calamari. Good drink (Old old fashioned). Even cole slaw was top of notch. Excellent service.

Yelp
Always a great meal Whatever you choose. Cozy atmosphere. A usual spot to hit when in the area
google avatar

Heidi O.

Yelp
Excellent meal, ordered 2 rounds of the garlic shrimp, so good 1 was not enough, also enjoyed the beet salad. We both ordered the tuna, was caught fresh today and was amazing. Great service as well, will definitely go back. Would have given 5 stars but the bar door to the outside kept opening and there were a few flies. :(
google avatar

Bonnie E.

Yelp
Have been a few times and food not so great. Would only recommend for happy hour and maybe apps

Rachel S.

Yelp
VERY disappointing experience at the Daymark last night. Our server was doing the best as she could, though crowded the kitchen was amazing behind. We started this fiasco at 5:30p. Took a while to get water and drink order in (maybe 15min before acknowledged). Took another 15-20 min to get drinks an then finally ordered apps and meals. Food runners were confused on which table ordered should go and a few time almost received other orders. 30 min after ordering finally received apps, house salad and French soups. And we all enjoyed. Apps dishes remained right where they were even when we finally received our entrees about 1 hour later). My salmon dish was small and disappointing, bok choy (2 small pieces) was soggy, the small amount of wasabi mash potatoes (a thin watery line on my plate and less than 2 teaspoons) had a little too much wasabi and cleared my nostrils a couple of times, the best thing happening on my plate was the tiny tiny salmon for $33!! Skin was crispy but the salmon was a little dry. Daughter's fish sandwich was over-breaded and overcooked. Husband enjoyed his cheeseburger. This ordeal ended at 9:00p. They did comp a drink for me and my daughter's meal, which is why I give 2 stars instead of 1 star, I did leave the restaurant hungry and we ended up ordering Jersey Mike's on the way home :(
