The Best Restaurants in Baton Rouge | Eater New Orleans

"Consistency is the name of the game at DC Eats, a popular counter-service spot by Southern. It’s hard to go wrong at this soul food haven, where daily specials reign supreme and typically sell out by 1 p.m. Tuesday is a particularly busy day, with smothered pork chops on the board, but then there’s Friday, when baked turkey wings and gravy are served with cornbread dressing. Still, some customer favorites are available daily, like the fried pork chop sandwich with potato salad, the Swedish meatballs, and of course, the wings." - Clair Lorell

A female friend had gone there to get the turkey and dressing. She allowed me taste some and my GOODNESS it was amazing. It reminded me of my grandmother's dressing. I returned a few weeks later for a plate of my own as well one for my mother. It was still good. The only thing was that it wasn't hot all the way through, BUT I DIDN'T CARE. They also BLESS your plate with a LARGE helping(s). Better get there when they open.

This food was so good! I ordered a Wednesday special! The baked chicken was so tender and the seafood brocolli rice was sooo good! The spaghetti and cheese was very creamy and the lemonade was sweet! Just right! The staff was so nice and the food was prompt! I ordered the Thursday special the next day on door dash because I was so pleased with my experience from Wednesday! Excellent service!

I have patronage this establishment before but this time I tried something new. The shrimp, broccoli and cheese casserole had a nice sorta spicy quick to it. I was enjoying it until i finally ate a shrimp with the shell still on it. Omg so to be fair being I did pay $18 for this plate. I tried the cabbage no seasoning according to my taste buds and the candied yams had too much cinnamon

The food wasn’t that great. I ordered the lemon pepper chicken, and unfortunately, it lacked seasoning. I also tried their lemonade, which tasted more like sugar water—it was way too sweet for my liking. I might give them another try with a different dish and hope for a better experience.

My 3 stars are based on the overall experience at the new spot. I arrived around 10:30 am on a Friday and got one of the last parking spots in the restaurant’s parking lot, otherwise there is parking across the street. A line started to form around 10:50. I got in line and was about the 10th person. The restaurant didn’t open until 11:20. By this time the line had about 40 people. Once in, there were 2 registers taking orders. One to the left and one to the right. We watched the servers fix plates and stack them up, however after a period of time we discovered that these plates were for phone and online orders. After waiting for approximately 30 minutes, several customers began getting frustrated. About 45 minutes in, with no in person customer receiving their order, customers began to express their frustration. The employees also began to express frustration. The older lady taking orders immediately began to offer refunds, WOW! By this point I just had to see what the food was all about🤣🤣 I know I know! I’m a foodie! The first in line customer received her order about 50 minutes in. She had the same number as me. #40. We were told even though we had the same number, the register we ordered from was different. So both registers were using the same numbers and putting the tickets in one pile for the servers. I think this caused a lot of confusion. Now my daughter met me for lunch on her lunch break but she had to leave because her lunch was over and we were still waiting. I decided to stick it out. 😬😬 After another 15-20 minutes I decided it was time to get a refund, however the next order up was mine. Now I had originally decided to eat in but all of the tables were occupied by people waiting on their food. I took a bite in the car but by this point I couldn’t enjoy. Later that evening I warmed my food up and let me tell y’all, I GET THE HYPE!! Man oh man oh man!! Food 10/10!! My plate was filled to the brim. I had the baked turkey leg, cornbread dressing( fixed in the large side) Yams, and Cabbage. Plate was about $18 and oh so worth it!! If you can fight through the process and don’t mind the customer service, GO ON A FRIDAY! Turkey wings and cornbread dressing!! I personally plan to go back, but no time soon 🤣🤣. I think they need to come up with another process. Maybe only in person orders during peak hours. Also order in a Piccadilly format while food is being plated and pay at the end.

Food was great, they made sure it was enough on the plate.

The vibeeeee is so nice 🔥 the music, food, and drinks are to die for. I ordered the pork chop sandwich and it was so good ..the only thing I didn’t like was the added mashed potatoes on the pork chop. If I would’ve known, I would’ve asked them not to put that on it. My coworkers ordered the smothered pork chops, rice, and cabbage. The music is perfect! I jammed the entire time while my coworkers and I ate our food. Did I mention that the food is inexpensive? I’m definitely returning whenever I come to BR again 💃🏾

Yelp
Have yall tried DC Eats??? So this has been one of my favorite, downhome places to go for the last 4 years or so. They have never missed!!! ***Edited to add: GO EARLY BC THEY WILL SELL OUT OF THE DAILY SPECIAL. & the address is: 4510 North Blvd, Baton Rouge, LA, United States, 70806*** Each day they have a down home special and regular menu. Anyday I go I usually get the special, the only exception being Wednesday...but not because it isn't good...I'm just not a fan of broccoli, cheese, and shrimp rice. My taste buds can't take it lol But their daily specials include: Monday- red beans and rice with smoked meat with cornbread and 2 sides Tuesday- smothered pork chops with rice and 2 sides Wednesday- Baked chicken with broccoli shrimp and rice casserole with 2 sides Thursday- Salisbury steak with smothered potatoes or rice and 2 sides & Friday- smothered turkey wings with cornbread dressing and 2 sides. Sides include: Candied yams Cabbage SMACK-a roni and cheese(cheese spaghetti) Green beans Corn Greens BBQ Meatballs (I MAY BE FORGETTING A SIDE OR TWO) They also sell big burgers, fried turkey wings, chicken pasta, fried porkchops, fried fish, chicken wings (reg, lemon pepper, crack wings, probably buffalo too), porkchop or fish sandwiches, homemade cakes, and punch. Their new location is larger but both were clean and always a friendly atmosphere. I got a new phone so I don't have any pictures from every day!!! But here are the ones I have. Check them out!!!

Yelp
I passed by this place and I always wondered what hey served. So we stopped by and when I tell you I was impressed it's super clean and spacious inside and the outside porch is nice. If it wasn't so hot out here I could imagine just imagine sitting outside sipping on some lemonade and enjoying your food. You can't eat all this in one sitting it's definitely lunch and dinner. Everything was really good. The music was old skool reminded me of my childhood and wanting my dad to change the song to something new. But it's very nostalgic and heartwarming. I'll definitely be back.

Yelp
Highly underrated for plate lunches in the BR area in my opinion is DC Eats. I finally got a chance to come here as they have moved near BRCC on Foster Each day they have different plate lunches and a few other things such as wings. Monday was red beans day and I paired it with their fried fish The yams, spaghetti and cheese, beans, and fish were all so good. Looking forward to trying out their other lunch plates.

Yelp
Absolutely love it here... I am very partial to smoked/baked turkey wings that fall off the bone and it definitely does. All of the sides are amazing and everything has a spicy kick that I've eaten. The chicken pasta is great as well. I'm gonna try a few other things on my next visit.. I try to pace myself lol The fruit punch is GREAT but very VERY sweet for someone so be aware. I love it but I may try the lemonade next time. Service is always fast and friendly. They play great music that does be a tad loud but it makes the ambiance and mood a good vibe.

Yelp
I love DC Eats and will forever singe their praises. This is the first time I've visited their new location. I went later in the afternoon close to 2pm and they still have the plate lunch special left. The new place is really nice. Very clean and a lot more tables to enjoy dinning. The food and staff were was 10/10 per usual.

Yelp
Positive- I come here every time I'm back in town. This is such a good place for southern comfort food. My favorite dishes are the chicken pasta, Swedish meatballs, spaghetti and cheese, and the yams. The service is always friendly and they play great music. Although I've never used it, I'm glad they added an online ordering feature because it can get crowded during lunch time, might be best for some to order ahead! Critical- None!

Yelp
I only ordered a pork chop sandwich. The pork chop was not fried more of a grilled pork chop. Most pork chop sandwiches have some kind of breading on the chop. Sorry I didn't like it

Yelp
Omggggg I've been thinking about my Friday daily special plate with the baked smothered Turkey leg, cornbread dressing with gravy, cheese spaghetti, & corn SINCE I FINISHED IT! It was like my momma or auntie made that plate!! I look forward to Fridays to come and trying some of the other daily specials.

Taschica H.

Yelp
The food was awesome. I ordered the Friday special : baked turkey wing, gravy, cornbread dressing with spaghetti and cheese/yams for my side. I was able to share my plate and was still full. The fruit punch is delicious. Friendly staff and my order was ready when I arrived. The restaurant is clean and there are tables to eat in, if you would like. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Yelp
The food was delicious and season to perfection. We had fish and Salisbury Steak. Do not miss the homemade Red Velvet Cake! Lori Dallas

Yelp
I've never ate true southern food packed with this much flavor. I couldn't stop eating! Nothing will ever compare to this. Has to be a famous spot. The staff here--so sweet and accommodating I knew there weren't a lot of vegetarian options so I just asked her for anything she can give me and she made it happen!! Anyway, must try!!

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch and was pleasantly surprised by how spacious it was inside.. I loved the music playing even though it was loud and made conversation difficult and made it hard to hear when your number was called..but it was good music . I swayed from side to side the entire wait. The Turkey wing lunch from Friday's menu is 10 out of 10.. meat so tender it slides off the bone.. dressing is doable.. not your mother's Thanksgiving dressing but worth the weekly rotation. The mac and cheese was perfect and the corn was the good buttery corn that's addictive. The burger....the burger was dry! Not just because it only comes meat and bread (I added cheese) but the lettuce tomato and pickle come on the side and they put condiment packets in the bag so it was...dry. The meat itself was dry. Like choke hazard dry. It had a good flavor and maybe its bec my kids like well done (no pink) burgers but I ve had well done burgers that are juicy so this may be the choice of meat they use but...it was dry..like..dont even order this..dry....all in all I look forward to trying other lunch options. That star taken away was 100 percent because of the burger.

Yelp
Nice looking restaurant. I've only tried the breakfast so far. It's set up cafeteria style. I had eggs, grits, bacon, sausage, and biscuits. The food was pretty good. The only thing I didn't like was the plate size and how it was set up. It was the small to go plate and the eggs were placed on top of the grits and a foil sheet on top with the biscuits and sausage. I prefer my eggs separately from my grits. Other than that it was pretty good. My daughter had two cinnamon rolls. They had pieces of pecans on them. She really enjoyed them. The decor and atmosphere looks really nice. I will visit again during lunch time.

Yelp
THIS is where you need to come get food from. I got the turkey wing plate with meatballs and macaroni. After tasting one bite on the ride home I had to pull over the enjoy the rest. 10/10 food and you get a lot for what you pay.

Adam K.

Yelp
Had the fried pork chop sandwich here. Got it dressed, but was curious about the option to add potato salad on it. Next time. The crack sauce is an optional add too, got that. It was a little too salty but has pretty good otherwise. The sandwich comes dressed with lettuce and tomato on white bread, but without condiments so ask for those separately. Music is pumping while you wait. You can order online on their web site in advance and just swing by to pick up. Pro move. Otherwise, ordering can take a while in store as the lines were consistently 4-6 people long. It's spacious inside.

Yelp
Visiting family and the Red Brick door caught my eye, figured worth a shot. Place was clean and cute. Employees were very nice. The menu is small with daily special, but I like that. I got the red beans n rice (BOMB) with 2 sides, cabbage was delicious (just enough heat for me) but I wouldn't get the cheesy pasta again (too cheesy lol but others may like) cornbread was good, didn't crumble too much. It was a healthy serving, (I had leftovers) but not sure it was $10.75 worthy. But I am super cheap lol Mom got the $5 fried pork chop sandwich with potato salad. It was a nice chop super tender n crispy. I like this place and will def swing by on my next visit. Shoot I may swing by and get some cobbler, it looked delicious. Ate so fast I didn't get pictures of the food.

Yelp
My flight back home to Texas was delayed so decided to stop in here. What a great choice. Food and customer service was great! Food was out quickly. I'll come back again next time I'm in Baton Rouge.

Yelp
Nice atmosphere when i walked in, cool vibes, and ordered a fried Turkey wing plate, with pasta side and potato salad, got home and ate it and it was so good, this is a place I would come to again and again and try the other food there as well. So delicious!!

Yelp
Just happened to be visiting from out of state (California) with my family. The place was nice and clean. The food, drinks and music was amazing. Yes I will return when I visit again. Especially for the food the lemon pepper chicken wings & fries was fire !!!!

Yelp
Had them for the first time today. The restaurant is nice, clean and bright. The cashier's greeting was welcoming. My mom and I ordered the smothered pork chops. Our sides were candied yams, corn, and green beans. I also ordered peach cobbler. First, overall the food was tasty. The pork chops were tender and falling apart. The gravy was good, but not over seasoned. The temp was luke-warm though. The yams were soupy-like so not much potato. My dessert was not good. I believe I got a burnt corner and bad crust. It tasted like a whole lot of oil and not butter; more like margarine or vegetable oil. That was a disappointment. Everything else was good. The dessert just needs some work. Thanks for dinner though. I'll be back to try something else next time.

Yelp
The food was phenomenal. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The portions are large, the building is clean, and the customer service is superb.

Yelp
Just had it for the first time and it was amazing! They have some real cooks in the kitchen! I promise you won't be disappointed! They now serve breakfast everyday sun-sat 6am-10:30am

Yelp
Not bad we had the daily special for lunch which was smothered pork chops. The sides were excellent I had cheesy pasta (mac n cheese) and green beans. You get a lot of food for the money. 1 plate could easily feed 2 people. The place looked very clean and there was no wait time. My only concern was that the people working weren't wearing masks at all or they were only covering their chins.
