Yelp
I don't like to do this, especially with a newer restaurant, but this was so horribly, obviously bad that they must realize it. This can't be just "a bad day".
This was a pickup order. We started with their "Quezo'N Chips" (sic). Now, this is something I always get when it's on the menu rather than just chips and salsa, and really, I know chili con queso, and man, this wasn't it. This was just a bunch of cheap, almost tasteless cheese product which they simply melted (and was almost rock solid by the time it got to my house). I mean, no spice, no chili flavor, and not even any real cheese flavor. Even a half decent cheddar just melted would have been edible, but not this. My son and I actually didn't eat it after just like 3 bites. Trust me, that's the very first time ever we didn't completely devour queso.
That was not a good start, but then we had our "Burrito Supremes". I ordered mine with ground beef, and at this point it's important to note that DC Taco & Wings sits in the same location as our well-liked Pica Taco used to be in. Considering that the menu has a lot of similarities to Pica Taco, we'd hoped that there would be some similarities, especially in our favorite thing, the Burrito Supreme.
I cannot tell you how disappointed I was cutting into my burrito. The filling was LITERALLY 92% rice; it was a rice burrito, with a few black beans thrown in and, only after searching really hard, an incredibly small amount of ground beef (which could not actually be discerned in the taste, only when looking at it). I cannot stress to you how out of character it is for what happened next; I did not eat my burrito. That is almost beyond imagination. Now, I could be a bit off in the relative concentration of rice vs beans, for example. It might have been 88% rice and a bit more black beans perhaps, but I am absolutely not wrong in saying that the amount of ground beef was almost completely imperceptible. Again, I DIDN'T EAT MY BURRITO! My mother, God bless her soul, would not believe that unless she actually saw me not eat it, but not eat it I did.
My son's Burrito Supreme was a barbacoa one, and while still very chintzy with the meat, it had a bit more, but he indicated that the barbacoa was practically tasteless, and he also ate not more than half his burrito.
Again, I really don't like to write such a terrible review for such a new place, but I feel like I've been ripped off. I can't imagine this place will stay in business. Certainly, you won't get an update from me.... I'm never going back, especially since Judy's is just up 14th Street from this place.
