I visited the student service office because I had a complicated issue regarding DeAnza college tuition. All the staff were very friendly. In particular, Ms. Magali Magallon's professional and detailed explanation and quick processing were amazing. Thanks to her, I am happy to be able to study at DeAnza College without any worries. Thank you so much, Ms. Magali Magallon.

Great Beautiful College!!! I enjoy very much attending my classes!!! Everyone is very attentive and nice. All the teachers are doing an excellent job!

Google
Worst school ever! the entire counseling and financial aid office is so unorganized and frustrating. all staff is like students, and they looks like really don’t care anything about their” job”, not even basic manners

I had a great experience here as an international student! If you’re also an international student there preparing to transfer, remember that classes there at De Anza are way more easy, fun and interesting! People there are super friendly nice! I miss the cafeteria so much! Where everyone gathered to chat or do homework together! Make as many friends as possible while you’re there, cause universities are not the same anymore...

I completed the Nursing program & was able to pass the nursing boards & I got my license. I worked until I was 73 yrs old. I am very impressed with the teachers & access to local hospitals that excepted students to learn. Very very helpful for me to start my life with a profession I am still proud of. It was a hard curriculum but well worth it. Class of 1971

Parking lots are completely jammed since the farmers market and the kids triathlon both ended at the same time and most exits seem to be closed 😕

Community colleges are a treasure trove of gems among them is access to the on-campus gym. De Anza College’s on-campus gym provides patrons with a quiet and well rounded experience for an affordable price. From experience, these types of gyms allow me to get my workout done in a welcoming environment, which I feel can’t be said of many gyms. However, it’s sad that the school is closing it due to budgetary reasons on June 28, 2019.

De Anza College is great but not the book store. Beware of book store return policy. Make sure the books or items is in original condition or their will not refund. No sympathy at all. I bought online access book a week before class starts. My math intructor switch book. And to make matter worse I accidentally bent the access book card because it was in my backpack with one line crease and they denied the return after i picked it up on 1st day of class. Cost me $120 for a simple honest mistake. Ask for store credit or even exchange for the current hard copy of the free math book and they not willing to do anything. I'll go buy from amazon or used book somewhere else. Never again support this book store.

Yelp
This is a great college to study at. With plenty of classes and courses they offer, there is an endless amount of learning, and they are so affordable. People like to connect here which is great, and the professors I have so far truly care about the student's success. Having studied inside the Advanced Technology Building, the irony to its name is that the internet is actually really bad, especially when you go underground for film classes. The internet will need to have better accessibility below so we can search up the web and do research on projects while we are down there. The people there have been fantastic and I am happy to have studied here.

Yelp
This review is specifically for the LIBRARY: As a student who enjoys going in to campus and appreciating all student resources provided, I tend to go into the Library a lot for books and what not. There used to be a very kind lady who used to run Library services, who would go above and beyond to help in any way or form. Lately there's a guy, Francisco, who has by far had the WORST attitude, not very kind (which is OK to have bad days but consistently?). He literally looks miserable working and projects this attitude towards students. Returned a few books and turns out I actually bought one, so I asked if I could donate it, he was SO ANNOYED at the fact that I asked if i could leave the book for some other student who most likely would need it, then asked him if he could dispose of my return receipt, he was SO HESITANT to do this minor favor. I cannot express this enough if you are angry at the world, the world is not against you, students are not your punching bags, you don't get to dump your attitude to others just because you are miserable where you are. We already have a work load and stress from classes the last thing we need is to go into a given resource & dread it because of the unhelpful, literally MEAN, sounds childish but true, person working behind student services. Please if you are not content, do NOT take it out on students. The face of student services should feel welcoming. FRANCISCO sending you love and healing.

I asked them about the grant from CSAC and the financial aid office had never responded.

Yelp
So far, 2 excellent professors, 2 average professors, and two dead awful. Nice campus. People are friendly by Bay Area standards (not saying a lot). People assume you agree with them. They say all the correct things but have no follow through or application in their actual lives. Unless you are required to use them, avoid counselors. Waste of time. Use the transfer requirements sheets on their website and RateMyProfessor.com. Good place if you're trying to transfer though. Avoid Kaur and Chivers. Nancy Park is great, and Larissa if you want to take Russian.

Yelp
I'd rate them zero stars if I could. The veterans office talks down to me in an emotionally abusive way. They are racist & jealous individuals. They discriminated against me since I'm Black & Hispanic & a disabled veteran. Jealously is a toxic trait to have. They have no customer service and do not welcome foothill students especially if you're Black even though they are supposed to be sister schools. Everyone in the veterans office I've spoken to has an attitude and talks down to me. They need to be fired. They need diversity representation in the office, actual veterans and people actually trained and competent enough to work with a population as vulnerable as veterans. I say pull their funding until they get it together.

Yelp
Things were a lot different when I first started going to school here in the early 2000s. Teachers were wonderful and were always so thoughtful and eager to teach. A lot has changed though and for the campus, many new buildings to enhance students', teachers', and visitor's experiences for the better. However not everything changed much or at all when it comes to the school's disability resource center where I have been a part of their program since I first came to De Anza College. A long time ago I had an amazing counselor who had a special way of listening to me and helped me to succeed and surely, I was thriving back then. More recently I came back and began taking adapted PE classes and my teachers as well as teacher aids have been phenomenal. They've all been there and supported my journey on getting healthy and stronger and even provided a lending ear when I just needed someone to talk to. In regards to the administrative side of things, I rarely got to speak with anyone when I needed to speak with anybody. One person though Patti, who was the front desk contact and later on Kim, have been there to help me find the support I needed. The sad thing about this is how all the counselors work mostly at home now or off campus. They're rarely in the office to help provide counseling services. It is an entirely different vibe when you come into the office. One thing that needs to be said is the way one former teacher who was the driver for all disability program students acted unprofessionally one day recently to the point of nearly coming off as a bully. She later acted as though she was the victim of verbal violence, even accusing me of using profane language when that was an outright lie. She refused to take me back to my car across campus when my class was over and even lied to her boss about me using foul language when that never happened. Since then I've been threatened by the said boss to no longer receive any transportation help to and from class which I only had fully for one class and not the other two classes I had. She had her way of talking that degraded my travel accommodations, prioritizing certain people like they were of greater importance and even told me so. The previous driver often rushed me even though I have partially torn ligaments in my knees and would shame me for getting a ride at all by reminding me of how she had to help other students too while giving me a ride like I was taking up all of her time. She was biased towards me from the first time I met her and was always much less hostile with my friends and classmates who I shared rides with. It didn't matter how nice or polite I was I was still wrongly judged and treated differently even if they (the driver) never said it. Their actions demonstrated that each Tuesday and Thursday when I was supposed to be taken to my strength training class, just impatient and unhappy to help with the ride or ride share. The thing to top it all off is the recent accusation of using foul language to this person when it was an outright lie and then people continuing to react in this inaccurate and derogatory way, is what is driving me to not want to continue as a disabled student in this disability support services program ever again. I'm not a smart person but this is something I needed to say and hope no one else who is a disabled student at this school has to endure what I had to endure. No one deserves to be judged by anyone especially by those who claim to be supporting all disabled students.

Yelp
Yes! Great place ( I attended ), and pretty. Hard to understand why they have so much in line with so much beautiful real estate. The platform in the pool is gone! And the cross country team, powered by my son and his elder class men have done really well this year and looking forward to track season! I think attending here saving so much rip off private college tuition is the way to go and this school is on top! ‍

Katelyn H.

Yelp
Something sketchy going on in the financial aid office. The worst college I have attended. Strongly suggest attending another school if you have any financial aid needs.

Yelp
So far so good but 1st quarter so far. My oldest son attends De Anza. Only problem was that he couldn't understand his teacher accent. Had no idea what he was saying. So it was guess work. He did that class online do he could review the class to decipher what the teacher was saying. But besides that.

Yelp
I forgot to much deserved recognition to LeeAnn Emanuel when I previously wrote this review! LeeAnn Emanuel is is a extremely gifted Psychologist and she's also DSS Counselor at De Anza College. LeeAnn is the absolute best counselor that I've ever had in college. She is extremely kind, compassionate, patient, and she is wonderfully talented in advising. LeeAnn helps so many students, myself included, and so much so that I myself couldn't imagine what my life would be like without LeeAnn, she truly is a wonderful soul.

Yelp
I'm biased because I started attending classes here in high school after feeling that my high school experience wasn't doing it for me. As an alternative to the traditional high school experience, I'm definitely a fan. Community college gets a negative reputation for being the go-to option for bottom-barrel students, but in my personal experience, this is not the case. Of course, there are the more motivated and the less motivated students, the better faculty members and then those who are not as good. Overall, I'd recommend community college, De Anza especially, to students who are looking to transfer to a four-year university. I attended from 2018 to 2021, transferred to a four-year in 2020, and then went back for one quarter in 2022 to finish up one last degree. Four associate's degrees and countless classroom memories later, I think my time at De Anza has officially come to an end. But if anyone ever asks, I totally recommend the experience!

Yelp
The instructor Christina Lopez-Morgan is extremely awful. She has verbal and behavioral bullying behaviors towards some students in her classes. She treats different students with different levels of respect. She has horrible rude attitudes towards some students. She targets on specific "weak" students, yells at them, humiliates them with toxic words, and even inappropriate physical behaviors, and doesn't give them equal chances to receive scores in the class. Shouting, impatience, anger, and refusing to communicate is the way she treats the "weak" students. Don't take her classes. Stay away from her if you want to be respected.

Ksang B.

Yelp
The guy handling the book store pick was very very rude. First I called 3 times to check if my order was ready for the pick up. No one picked up for 3 times. The fourth time when the call was received by the guy he hang up twice and when I got hold of the call he was very rude. If you can't deal with people just don't work on service sector.

Yelp
De Anza is a great community college. The campus is always clean and has lots of creative and welcoming spaces for students to study, hang out and mingle in. I love their track and swimming pool!

Yelp
Admissions lady, who answered the phone was very rude, and was no help at all, seemed irritated like she didn't want to help me, and made me feel like I was stupid or unwise.

Yelp
I attended De Anza on and off from 2009-2019. Having nearly 10 years of experience taking classes, I feel like I am more than qualified to talk about my time as a student: Class registration: One area of the school that I cannot overlook. Classes in the popular departments (Bio, Chem, English, Math, Physics, etc...) fill up extremely fast. Do not be surprised if you end up on 2-3 waitlists prior to the start of the quarter. It is not uncommon to take 3 years to transfer or finish a degree here. Foothill college (De Anza's sister school) does not fill up nearly as fast, so be sure to register for classes over there if you do not want to have any delays in your education. Teachers: Hit or miss for the most part. Do be sure to use ratemyprofessors.com when selecting classes. I've had fantastic professors while at the same time also having really bad ones. You should be fine as long as you are a responsible student and seek help and stay on top of your studies. Campus: Campus is flat and fairly easy to navigate. Dining options in the cafeteria aren't too bad, and there are plenty of options off campus as well. The library was renovated a few years ago and makes a great place to study. Do make sure to take advantage of the printing stations all over campus as it is very cheap! The students: Most of the students I encountered at De Anza were fresh out of high school or under 21, so if you are in 1 of those demographics you'll enjoy your time here. I was a nontraditional student so I definitely felt like I couldn't relate to a majority of my classmates. Parking: Not sure if it is just me, but I feel like a lot of the students here could use a few extra hours of driver's ed. If you have to drive, I recommend coming to school before 9 AM, otherwise you are going to have a very difficult time finding parking. I recommend taking the VTA since the clipper card fee is included in the tuition, and you get to avoid the parking lot mayhem. On campus activities: This school is perfect for you if you are looking to get involved in student body, clubs, and activities. The quad is always bustling with activity, Summary: There is a reason why De Anza is one of the top ranked community college's in California. Many students successfully transfer to top institutions such as UC Berkeley, UCLA, and even a few Ivy leagues. If classes did not fill up insanely quick, I would have given them a much higher rating. If De Anza is going to be your sole community college, be sure to plan out every quarter carefully and use all of the resources available. Overall: 3 stars

Yelp
I reccomend using rate my professor online ! I only pick teaches with over 3 stars and it's so worth it!! It has comments as well so you can know exactly what students didn't like about their professor . Here to drop off my book I had borrowed from my teacher. Kinda sad I won't be coming here anymore because he was such a good teacher, and this school is full of amazing teachers. I am transferring to DVC then possibly to San Francisco state. Anyway I had prefessor Gregory druhel for politics and government and I absolutely loved his class! So informative and there's even the opportunity to join a study tutoring group session every week for extra credit. I of course did join. Anyway I'll miss this school. Anyone thinking of attending definitely pick him at your teacher if you have the option!

Yelp
Not going to lie, I really like De Anza College when I used to go there. Some classes can be hard and stress, and some prof. can suck at teaching. However, I have a great experience like not classes related. I met a lot of great people and created great memories there. One thing though, financial aid service suck. Some people there don't know what they are doing at all so prepare yourself to go a lot. I will give them 2 stars. Overall, I am still giving De Anza a 4 stars because it is a good community college and the overall experience was great.

Yelp
I love De Anza awesome professors and the chicken nuggets from the cafeteria are the best. I also love the hot chocolate from the little cafe under the cafeteria. The campus is so peaceful

Yelp
De Anza College has an amazing automotive program. The 3-year program offers electrical, engine and transmission certificates. Today, I took the automotive program tour during their car show event. I'm jealous that the students have such a great facility with passionate instructors. The instructors were saying some of the students actually use their own personal cars and engines to work on while taking their automotive program. If I lived closer, I'd want to go to this college!!!

Yelp
In 2016 I graduated from the paralegal certificate program. I did an internship at a small law firm with an attorney who personally knew the paralegal program director. The paralegal at the firm was also a personal friend of the director. I would assume that the firm I interned at agreed that they would provide me training because that is what they are obligated to do (interns are not free labor). I received no training and two years later I have given up on trying to find a job as a legal assistant or paralegal. Attorneys only want to hire staff with experience. I am experienced at scanning and filing client documents, but I didn't need to pay De Anza for that. I learned that skill years ago. Attorneys should not use internship programs as a hunting ground for free labor that offers no benefit to the student. That's a disservice to the entire legal profession.

Yelp
For engineering majors - Make use of numerous labs+ tutorial center for math/sci help. Like any community college, if you're focused and have goals you'll go far. Foreign exchangers are almost majority now so enjoy a global diversity. People only eat on campus if desperate so have a car to go outside.

Yelp
Good school! Nothing wrong with the teachers or curriculum. My issue is with the students themselves. I currently go to de anza college but I'm giving them three stars because my friends and I are TIRED and I mean TIRED of having to pay OUT OF POCKET to fix our cars because students DONT KNOW HOW TO DRIVE AND WILL HIT YOUR CAR AND JUST LEAVE. I just wanna let the students who do this know that it is ILLEGAL to hit a car and leave without exchanging insurance information. A criminal offense for fleeing the scene! This happens to many students here and no one does anything about it.

Leyou D.

Yelp
Good commuter school. I liked a majority of my teachers and the tutors were helpful whenever I saw them. It could be hard to get some classes and to find councilors at crucial times if you forget to schedule a meeting earlier but there are drop ins for some topics.

Yelp
First off, I'm not really sure how to rate this place. As a college this place is pretty low. However, as a community college this is supposedly one of the better schools. The IGETC program is great because it guarantees admittance to some of the UC's. The program is simple to follow (you take specific classes for your future major, maintain a certain GPA, etc.) and when you're done you have a clear idea of where you're headed. You can get all your GE's over with for a cheap price! Pros: - Non smoking campus - Quarter system (fast paced, but allows you to take more classes than on a semester) - Large campus size - Many classes offered - Good college contacts (guaranteed transfer to most UC's) - Easy online registration - Helpful and friendly counslors - Great place to meet people (people from all over the Bay Area go here and the age/ethnicity diversity is nice) - The best teacher, hands down, is Sal Breiter. He is very funny and energetic, and his classes are always interesting. If you can, try to take any of his Humanities classes, you won't be disappointed. Cons: - Horrible parking (hard to find a place during peak hours, plus you'll probably leave with several dents in your car) - It's like high school - Nobody takes you seriously - The classes are too easy (nothing like University), which I suppose could be a positive for some - Not many campus groups/organizations - Harder to maintain friendships since most people don't live in the same town. - Late registration times (for first years) and many classes fill up fast, but it gets better the longer you're there.

Yelp
I spent a little over two years here and I really enjoyed myself. The only thing I'm going to suggest is that you spend your time at De Anza very wisely. De Anza is preparing you for university life, so don't take it for granted. If you think there's too much homework given in your De Anza classes, you won't be able to hang once you transfer.

Yelp
I went to school here for 4 years, mostly part-time although it wasn't the closest Community College to my area such as Chabot College, Mission College, and Ohlone College. So I commuted from Fremont to Cupertino to go here, but I took a lot of classes that were 2 or 3 days a week some Quarters. The campus is mostly flat there's a lot of trees, chipmunks running around, sometimes they were a duck or two on the campus especially over near the fountains. There's a nature garden that you can walk around and it has different types of plants. Around the campus there's a lot of grassy areas and places to sit on benches. They also have a great math program there so if you're not good at math you can enroll in that get a really good teacher, however you end up spending more time on math and you get regular tutors. I believe it was called the MPS math program. You'll end up spending more time on math because the teachers will explain it in more detail, so then the class is longer. Doli B. in the math department as an excellent teacher. There is a large pond and park across the street, and its nice to walk around, there's a lot of ducks there. If you need parking that's free there's usually parking right near there in the street. Otherwise you have to go and get a parking permit on campus, it's better to get a daily pass if you're only there two days a week. There's a lot of great teachers and their speech department is excellent. This Community College had a lot of counseling hours and hours of the administrative office was open and available for students as compared to the other community colleges that I visited near my area. I enjoyed and learned a lot from the classes that I took here. I completed my Associates Degree in Business and Computer Information Systems and transferred to CSU East Bay.

Yelp
Its been a couple of years since I graduated from De Anza but it was definitely the best community college experience that I had. I started at Evergreen which was pretty terrible in comparison to counselors and culture in general. I always had great counseling experiences with my advisors and professors were always pleasant. I absolutely loved the quarter system too! One of the few colleges in the area that offered quarter system classes. I felt so much more motivated knowing that sessions would go by quicker and I felt like I could get done faster. They have great transfer programs that you can follow too. I graduated with my associates degree and transferred to Cal State EB.
google avatar

Sara S.

Yelp
If you are international student I highly recommend you to search carefully! The ISP is not helpful at all!! They have only a few counselors, you always have to come back. The girl in the front desk is there to make number. You will pay expensive fee, the professors are good, but for the price you will pay I would wish much more assistance than what they offer. Very disappointed!!!
google avatar

Clara C.

Yelp
It's a sister college of Foothill College in Los Altos Hills. It has double the amount of students so it's more crowded and there's less chance to get fundings for student activities and scholarships. I like its location very much though. Several bus come here from various directions. Worth mentioning that I feel like more people smoke cigarettes and weed here. And they have high transfer rates so there're a lot of international students, mainly from Asia.
google avatar

Yelp
I love this school, it makes you want to be here; everyone is friendly for the most part. I would recommend people to come here for anything they need from nursing to machining, financial aid available, counseling, school clubs, etc. Police is also on campus, parking is very big and open and there is even parking across the street that you do not get hustled with. Around the area there are tons of places where one can go and grab a bite most places are healthy. Its never too late to better yourself!
google avatar

Kimothy W.

Yelp
Great school, known for transferring students to uc schools which is so true, tuition isn't bad, big school with so many people. I think the campus is a bit too packed for such a big group of people. I think foothill college is way better compared to de Anza. At least foothill college has less students and it is not as packed as de Anza

Yelp
Came here with my son school for a field trip at the planetarium. I was about a 30 min show. The kids had fun but it was hard for them to seat still and stay quiet. But overpriced it was nice.
google avatar

John-Michael C.

Yelp
I'm biased here too....I went here also. I had nothing but good times here. I have met a lot of good people and learned a lot. Grant it that it's been a while since I've attended anything there, but it seems like the place is only getting better. No where is perfect and it all comes back down to making the best of what you have. It was an immeasurable experience going there. Most importantly I learned to question myself regarding everything I once believed in - and in turn learned more about myself. What else can you ask from a place of higher education?
google avatar

Amiee C.

Yelp
Miss the time here. Overall is a great school for transfer! Highly recommended It's a top school for students who know what's their goals and know how to utilize the resources.

Yelp
This review is only for Admissions and Records and the one older woman who "helped" my son and I this morning. She immediately looked annoyed with us when we walked up. I let her know we weren't sure we were in the right place. My son said he had some paperwork that he was told to submit to the school before he was able to register for classes. Oh boy, she threw a fit. Rolling her eyes and exasperated sighs wanting to know what he was trying to do and who said he had to turn in paperwork, and what paperwork, just peppering him with questions (without allowing him to answer) with her hand on her hip and an incredulous look on her face. She was so mean! I feel sorry for these young adults that have to deal with someone like this just to register for college. This was mine and my son's first experience with De Anza. We walked away in shock. Disappointing to say the least.

Yelp
I can't remember the last time I took a class here, it's been years. The fall semester has started and I was interested in taking a class for fun...so long behold, I drive onto campus. The class that I'm taking is pretty interesting, it seems like the professor knows what he's talking about. The lecture was pretty full too, there were lots of adds. So, it must be a good thing that I was able to register. Ok, more parking spaces...yay! Which lot? There are couple to choose from, so pick one that is near your classes, so you won't randomly have to look for your car, esp. at night. Nope, that didn't happen to me...As for the drivers, I think people are just rushing to get out of there to head home, so just be careful. As for the campus, everything looks in pretty good shape, some buildings are being renovated...like part of the Campus Center.

Yelp
Had such a horrible experience with a EOPS staff. The lady there was not even helpful at all and she did not even answer my questions I asked her. I asked if she can help pick my classes and guide me on the right path, she basically said "You're on your own, you pick your own classes." How rude! Therefore, I was not able to get in on time for Priority registration which sucked so I decided to go to another Community College. Wish De Anza cared more about future students who were trying to enroll. Good luck to anyone who is considering this school because I don't recommend this college.

Yelp
The Design Manufacturing Technology (DMT) department at De Anza is awesome! You can learn a new tech skill and get a certificate or a degree and then get a job, it's that simple! This program has so many connections for job opportunities. The DMT professors are also very chill. They would do whatever it takes to help the students the right path for success in this field! A big thanks to the Head honcho of the program, Mike Appio! If you're interested in getting your hands dirty, operating machines, and designing products, then this is the right job for you!

Yelp
I personally think De Anza would be better if some of the faculty wasn't so one sided to one particular culture. I am saying this because I understand that the majority of the school is Asian and some even joke to call it De Asia. This is funny but somewhat true. Well my biggest problem is the Club personal especially LaDonna who only seems to have time for Asian students but not enough time to make the senate and clubs all cultured diverse. Seriously just look at the clubs or student council and you will see that it's majority Asian, and not enough culture diversion in it. Maybe no one cares about it, but what if it was all Mexicans? Or African Americans, or even all Whites? I think people would say something. I think the school is awesome none the less and I only wish that anyone going to it will feel welcomed because the way it looks not everyone seems to be.

Yelp
I admit, I hated De Anza College when I first attended here. I failed in high school and decided to come here. Even though I knew I was an intellectual, I was lazy in high school and the idea of going to community college disgusted me. But De Anza eventually grew on me and I ended up loving it. Now, 1.5 years later, I am on my way on transferring to the #2 highest ranked undergrad business school in the U.S...at a place called Cal. How did I do it? Although I hated community college in the beginning, I learned to accept my fate and I made the most out of De Anza. I applied for every one of their programs that interested me or related to my major. I got rejected by a few, including the school newspaper and Inter Club Council, but De Anza has been good to me. I got an internship, got into an intercollegiate sports team, got scholarships, grants, good grades from good professors, founded two clubs, got in the honor society, and much more. De Anza really provided the resources and platform I needed in order to transfer into top schools. I was accepted by two Ivy League institutions, a few top 35 ranked private schools, both UCLA and Berkeley, and much more. I have attended classes at SJCC, West Valley, Foothill, and Evergreen. None of these CCCs stack up to De Anza. Thank you De Anza College for making me make something of myself. Only dislikes: A bit too many international students from Asia. Hot girls are scarce. There are bad teachers here (but you can easily avoid them with priority registration). Facilities such as the cafeteria and library are a bit old. Parking sucks only if you take classes during peak hours (if you complain about parking, just take classes early in the morning or late in the afternoon or at night). My advice for motivated transfer students: GPA is everything. Don't worry about a social life or relationship. Get involved with extracurriculars and work experience. Explore Cupertino, Los Altos, Saratoga, Sunnyvale and Mountain View. Make the most out of De Anza. P.S. Reviewers that compare De Anza to 4-year schools are repugnant. It is a junior college and it is the best there is. If you do not like the quality of this school as a j.c., maybe you should've worked harder and gotten into Stanford straight out of high school. :)

Yelp
De Anza is the best community college close to my house, and probably the best CC in California as well. Don't settle for going to just any 4-year university because your grades weren't good enough in high school! Save some money on tuition by going to DA instead, and then you'll be able transfer to your dream school. I took Chem 1A, Bio 1A, and Spanish 4 in the summer a few years ago just so I could get into my safety school in the desert. In retrospect, I should've just done my freshman and sophomore year here since I ended up transferring to UC San Diego anyway. Not to mention, I spent probably 30x's the tuition at my safety school than I would have at DA, and I think the education you receive here is actually better than most 4-year universities. Seriously, DA is known for getting you into the school you want; all you have to do is be passionate to learn and get a really high GPA to get into that university. You can be as involved as you like, in school clubs or otherwise; there's no shortage of friends you can make here, and odds are, there are probably people from your high school here as well. De Anza is located in a really nice area that's better than the university villages you'll find around most 4-year institutions. Do you like bowling, karaoke, public parks, pearl milk tea, and authentic Asian food? Of course you do. Whatever it is you're looking for, you'll find it by going to De Anza. It's worth the 2-year investment, and skipping 2 years of hellish dorm life and crappy roommates to be here. Trust me.

Yelp
When I first came here, I hated it just because of the social stigma of community college. I messed up in high school, and so I got what I earned, but I was still ashamed. I tried so hard to hate this place but now that I'm about to transfer, I have to admit that it's a great school. The campus is nice and open, the parking lot is fine if you park in the back corner where everyone else is too lazy to walk from, and it's surrounded by many stores within walking distance. I've had a couple of so-so professors, but for the most part, they have been caring and kind people who are eager to help their students meet their goals. The advisors are all great, and will gladly come up with the perfect plan for you to transfer if you go and talk to them. I was afraid when I came here that I would be around a lot of "floaters". You know, those people who go to college just because they feel like they have to try it, but have no real ambitions or passion for learning. I was wrong. While I've had a couple classes with people like that, most of the people at De Anza are international students who are very serious about their work, and other people like me who are grateful to have a second chance and don't want to waste it. The only negative thing I can come up with - the Records and Admissions staff. Whenever I've gone, the women who work there have been cranky, rude, and have talked to me like I'm dumb and didn't read the paperwork I was given. Becoming a California resident was way more challenging than it should have been due to one woman's stubbornness. But it didn't take away from my overall experience here.

Yelp
This review is for Mary Donahue's novice swim class. My fiance promised me that if I learned how to swim, he would take me on a vacation, so I took this class and now he owes me a vacation. There are a TON of reasons to love that De Anza offers swim classes: 1) Adult swim classes! De Anza is not unique in this, but when I was looking for swim classes, I found way more children's swim classes than adult classes. 2) PRICE. The swim class is only a half credit, so it's just $6 or $7 for the class. Add the registration fee, and the total for 8 swim classes was less than $60. 3) The Olympic-sized pool and the diving pool are freaking clean! They have professional pool cleaners come here on a regular basis to maintain the pool, and it seems like the youngest kids who do attend swim classes here are old enough to know not to pee in the water. (Presumably.) A swim TA commented that it wasn't "salty" like the pool at the Y for this very reason. 4) They HAVE an Olympic-sized pool and diving pool! 5) The pool is heated, but you only really notice this when you have to attend class on a day where it's kind of cold. Then all you want to do is jump in the pool and stay there. A cold day is a perfect day to practice jumping/diving into the pool. 6) MARY DONAHUE IS AMAZING. She's an incredibly charismatic and sensible swim instructor who breaks down the basics into smaller steps so the novices can follow along and not-novices can develop better technique. She even videotaped us in the last class so that we could see what we needed to improve on (super useful!). 7) Even though there are about 40 students in the class, she has lots of TAs to help out so that we get a lot of personal attention. I'd say that the teacher/TA to student ratio was about 1:4. And the TAs are excellent, too! 8) Most of the people who started the novice class didn't know how to swim before (including your current reviewer). I hated submerging my head underwater especially! But I think going through the class together with a bunch of adult novices really helps new swimmers. Everyone learns at different speeds, but even the students are helpful and supportive of each other. :) I'm not only glad that I learned how to swim, but Mary really made swimming enjoyable for me! PROTIP: if you already know the basics of swimming and are looking to learn more strokes and work on technique, don't take novice swim! They have beginner, immediate, and advanced swim classes, too!

Yelp
I really like this school. I hate most of the higher end math teachers, most of them are engineers and expect you to think like one. I also dont really like art classes here, I like them more at west valley. I guess you could say west valley is more laid back amd hippie ish. I love the japanese teachers here, theres about 4 of them who are helpful and easy going. Film department is also awesome. Parking here really sucks. You literally have to come when class is getting out so you can stalk someone for their parking space.

Yelp
It's a pity I'm giving De Anza College only 2 stars, because it's one of the only community colleges with an ABA approved paralegal certification program. The class selection and class schedules are not the best, but the fact that it exists is a definite plus. The Latin woman who sits at the front desk in the counselors' office is a bitch. She is condescending, rude and no help at all. An ESL international student spent 30 minutes trying to get a meeting with a counselor, and the woman turned him away even though walk-in counseling/advising is open to everyone. I'm not sure why she even has a job, because an automated sign up list seems more convenient and more efficient. Hey, De Anza College, maybe you should budget cut her instead of classes.

Yelp
UC De Anza!!!! A 2 year college that some how turns into four blissful years.. .. haha ok I'm joking. I'm taking 1 and only 1 quarter here on my break from SJSU. Things I like about De Anza: -Quarter System -50 minute classes?! I'm all over that!! boo to the hour and 15 minute classes at state haha -Registration online is Apple friendly (eat my ass SJCC and Evergreen) -My teachers are actually pretty good. Downside about De Anza: -Smoke free campus means all the Asian kids are smoking on the perimeter of school.. "De Anza has its own ozone layer"... -I heard the word "Fa Sho" about a bajillion times today.. -an example conversation from a guy in my class on the phone: "fa sho I got you! Fa sho.. yeh brah.. fa sho.. no no.. fa sho.. dont trip.. fa sho fa sho fa sho fa sho I'm in class fa sho fa sho fa sho nahhh man fa sho fa sho fa sho.. aiight.. fa sho.." -Parking is a little tricky and I heard that your car will most likely be broken into... over all not bad..

Yelp
How can a place of "Higher" education employ some of the dumbest, laziest people in the county? I know that schools get budget cuts, but if I'm expected to pay a ton of money for classes, books, parking and any other nickle and dime crap this college can think of, then i do expect a bit of professionalism when it comes to needing help. Case in point.... I came in today looking to chat with a counselor that helped me a few weeks back. I walk up to the ironically named "Help desk" and ask if the counselor I was looking for was available. The woman behind the desk gave me a stare as if i were speaking Martian then said with confidence "who's that?" I told her she was the counselor I spoke to a few weeks back. she then glanced with the same confused stare at an equally unhelpful woman who replied without looking up from her computer screen "she's not here". The elderly zombie then returned her blank stare back to me as if to say "there is your answer" but no words came out of her slack jaw. And that is the problem! Not one of them asked, "would you like to see someone else?" Or "perhaps I could answer your question?" It was if i was being punished for interrupting their doughnut break with my ridiculous demand. This place may have great teachers and stellar programs, but I feel far more comfortable giving my hard earned money to an Educational institution that has a helpful and KNOWLEDGEABLE staff who takes pride in their job. One that doesn't hire their help from the polluted end of the gene pool. Staff like this is far better suited for working at the DMV.
