"Within Amsterdam's picturesque canal-side shopping district, De 9 Straatjes ("The Nine Streets"), you'll find De Kaaskamer van Amsterdam, which has to be one of the world's most wonderful cheese shops. Obviously there's a lot of gouda, much of which is organic, along with ready-made food—homemade salads, sandwiches, and snacks—as well as specialty hams and wines. And should you be so inclined after visiting, they ship to more than 25 countries, including the U.S."

10 Best Shops in Amsterdam | Condé Nast Traveler

"From the pungent smell that assaults your nostrils at the door, to the hefty cheese wheels stacked up to the rafters, this characterful Nine Streets fromage shop is the real deal. If you want your regular Gouda, they’ve got it—as well as the farmhouse, matured, and organic versions—but don’t skip the fabulous specialities, from the robust, clove-pitted nagelkaas to the spicy sheep’s milk cheese with sea lavender. They also offer wine, top-flight charcuterie, and home-roasted nuts, plus beautiful cheese baguettes to go." - Clodagh Kinsella

Google
The best Waffle I have ever had. Beautiful shop, friendly staff and fresh products and not a tourist trap. Amazing place. Try it.

Google
The shop offers a broad variety of cheeses, the service is friendly and helpful. Anyway I was sold cheese which was said to last at least six months on the shelf, so I saved it for a later treat. Only after one month I discovered mould inside the packaging. Sadly the expensive cheese had to be thrown in the trash due to false advertisement or bad packaging.

Visiting from the US. Best store we visited in Amsterdam and definitely the best cheese store we have ever visited. Amazing selection of cheese, sausage, wine and condiments. Definitely a must see.

Staff were friendly and accommodating. The cheese was unbelievably good and fresh. We loved the truffle one, amazing!

Google
Incredible selection of cheeses. You can find a cheese for any taste. They also have delicious sausages, wines, olives, crackers and other bites. My favorites are truffle cheese and mustard seed cheese. Also pistachio sausage was VERY good! They also vacuum pack everything so it’s possible to take with you on the plane.

One thing I didn’t like was not testing the cheese in the store. If I can’t try the cheese, I can’t buy. Sorryyyy guys You should put some cheese in bowls so I can try Because of that I couldn't buy anything

Google
One of my favorite cheese shops. Come here every time I’m in Amsterdam. And their sandwiches are tops!

Yelp
Our food tour guide - Hungry Birds - recommended Kaaskamer as the best cheese shop in Amsterdam and after my visit, I can see why. The shelves are simply loaded with cheese. Mild cheeses, strong cheeses, in between cheeses, accompaniments like meats and pickles. Great looking stuff. The gent behind the counter asked if he could help and I told him that I needed two different cheeses to bring home and perhaps about a kilo each. So he offered me samples of a couple and I liked them all. Tough to choose but I did and now have cheese to bring home. While he was in the back putting them through the vacuum sealer - cheese lasts for days without refrigeration if it's been vacuum sealed - I spotted a neat snack package that lasted all of about three hours before I ate it as my dinner. As for the cheese? It survived the journey back to the States just fine. I declared it to CBP and they had no issue with it. It's slowly being enjoyed as a reminder of my time in Amsterdam. Yelp
We had heard so much about this place ... but the 2 guys working the day we went made our experience just average. Yes there is tons and tons of cheese but unless you know what you want the workers seemed impatient to deal with us ... since we were asking a lot of questions. We were willing to spend a lot of cash for a bunch of cheese but ended up buying just one small piece of goat and one small piece of Gouda. Would not come again, there is far more friendlier places that would be eager to help.

Yelp
Cheese! ( End of review ) Okay fine, I'll expound a bit more..... Strolling around the canals, we could smell the delicious cheesy wafts from the corner of the street & gazing in the window, wheels & wheels of cheese are packing this shop, all the way to its ceiling Closed on a Sunday, we actually postponed our departure & made a point to visit Monday before we left Amsterdam because we knew it would be *that* good There was a line right as they opened but it worked out well since the line moved quickly yet gave the Mr & I enough time to decide what we wanted to order Small wedge of Truffle-Brie, along with 2 other harder strong cheeses came home with us......we advised the guy helping us that we preferred stronger cheeses from the local area & he reached behind him & selected 2 wheels Cutting off huge samples for us to try, we were more than impressed & opted for everything he chose for us.....1 was a creamy & strong sheep cheese & the other was a goat cheese with garlic & basil. Absolutely delicious! Also indulged in 2 sandwiches on fresh brown baguette.....everyone needs a now & later experience. We ate our cheese sandwiches in the car (an orange & while cheese but can't say what they were) & enjoyed the cheese wedges once we got back home to Germany A Must Stop! Note that they do accept credit cards but will charge a small percentage - cash is best

Yelp
We came here because they have l'etivaz, which I love and can't easily find at home. Service was friendly. They're a small shop but are well stocked. It's nice that they have things already vacuum sealed and give you cheese paper to go - perfect for travel.

Yelp
De Kaaskamer is a boutique cheese shop. It is less touristy and more for the locals and those who plan to eat the cheese within the next 48 hours. Everything is fresh and vacuum sealed for freshness. We stumbled in because I wanted to buy some cheese to bring back to the states. I ended up only with a mini wheel of gouda but we also got to sample a few cheeses. They have fresh bread and sandwiches to go. This is an excellent place to pick up some lunch (there are no tables but you can eat anywhere outside) or for food to put in your backpack during your bike ride. Prices are on par with the quality. You will get what you pay for and you will be very happy. It's amazing the selection they have and they are very friendly. Highly recommend for a top notch cheese shop experience in Amsterdam.

Yelp
So much cheese it makes you feel like your on another planet. I recommend getting a baguette with one of the many meats or cheeses here. They don't have many samples but the employees are very knowledgeable. PROS: Brie and serrano ham baguette Great prices Truffle salami

Yelp
The best cheese shop -- bar none -- in Amsterdam. It's in the great shopping area of the 9 little alleys. Every type of cheese you can imagine, plus a wonderful selection of Dutch cheeses. Also, they carry a complete selection of Charcuterie. You can get Jamon Iberico for half the price of the US. They have a small selection of wines. It all makes a great meal for the hotel room. It also was the last place for me to to visit before going to the airport. I can't recommend highly enough.

Yelp
The woman at the counter was extremely rude and unprofessional. She made our family feel unwelcome, and we were ready to spend money on gifts for our family. Horrible experience, and will not be recommending to anyone.

Yelp
Lots of cheese. If you are not a cheese snob like me, you won't even know where to begin choosing. But I do know they offer cheese sandwich for like 6 euro. You choose the cheese you want it with, or just tell the shop assistant your preference, strong flavored or mild, hard or soft etc. I feel that the service was attentive but the assistants seemed irritated at times. Probably because they had to face one tourist after another, who don't know what they want. Blame them for being recommended to this place after reading the must-go's in Amsterdam.

Yelp
An impressive selection of cheeses, olives, etc. It was a bit difficult to choose, given my lack of Dutch language skills. The staff offered to let me try anything, though, and tried to be more helpful than I would let them be! I ended up with a couple of great cheeses and the prices seemed quite reasonable.

Yelp
Found this neighborhood cheese shop near where I'm staying. It is awesome! People are super friendly and helpful! LARGE variety of cheeses vacuum packed and ready to fly home in much smaller quantities. They even sliced a chunk of spicy cheese and sealed for me to take back to the USA. I would definitely recommend over the tourist like shops only offering 3-5 flavors in large wheels. This was a great find!!! Located in the inner canal rings!

Yelp
Very nice staff. Asked for recommendations and they were very knowledgeable about their products. Got to sample a few cheeses prior to making my decision. They have vacuum sealed cheeses for travel! Mine made it quite a long time without being refrigerated. At least 18 hours in my backpack. Now I'm back in the states making the best grilled cheese sandwiches I'll probably ever taste. Quality ingredients make even the simplest things magical. Although, when isn't grilled cheese magical?

Yelp
We discovered "De Kaaskamer" on a rainy afternoon while walking through the streets in Amsterdam. Give that both of us are cheese enthusiasts, we entered the store and were welcomed by the smell and aroma of a vast variety of cheeses and sausages. There were also olives and other snack-like items that you can taste and get to go. We tried the young and old Gouda, and also the truffle Gouda. All three were absolutely incredible. The young cheese is soft and mild in flavor. It melts on your mouth as you chew. The old Gouda however, is harder in texture and extremely flavorful/savory. It will make you salivate. Amazing! The truffle Gouda was good too, but can be hit or miss if you are not a fan on truffles. It actually had saved pieces of black truffle. Exquisite! Now for the sausages, we tried the truffle sausage and the pata negra-- both out of control great. I'm saddened just thinking about this. I suggest getting the cheeses and sausages pre-cubed, stop and get some bread, and make a picnic by one of the canals. An experience you will not forget. I really miss this place. Thank you De Kaaskamer for the amazing memory and hope to meet again (even if we order online). This store has a website and they will ship internationally in vacuum-sealed bags. Great for when your 'supply' runs out. http://www.e-cheese.nl/

Yelp
Awesome cheese shop and much better than Henri Willig, which is seems to caterer more to the tourists. My only issue is that I wasn't able to purchase any to bring back to the States with me because their cheese isn't commercially packages. Great stop nonetheless.

Yelp
Fantastic little cheese shop in the Nine Streets neighborhood (De Negen Straatjes) that has a large selection of cheese along with meats, olives, and other assorted snacks. I stopped into several other cheese shops in Amsterdam and although De Kaaskamer doesn't offer all the samples that some of the more commercial shops do, they make up for it in quality and variety. For those visiting Amsterdam, this is the perfect place to pick up some snacks to enjoy along a canal, back at your hotel, or back home-wherever that may be!

The cheese selection here was amazing! This is definitely the place to go if you are looking to take home a wheel or two of cheese! They also have beautiful bread and wonderful olives...must visit!

Yelp
This shop was recommended by a Dutch couple we met in Paris. After wandering through the maze old Amsterdam, we found the store. The pungent smell hits you as you enter the quaint little shop. I was hypnotized by the selection of local cheeses- from young to aged and goat to cow, they thad it all. The people behind the counter were also more than willing to give you a sample of an unfamiliar varieties. De Kaaskamer's cheese was way too gouda- I know, I know- terrible pun.
