Why Mexico’s Cocktail Bars Are the Best In the World

"Traditional cantina vibes meet Hawaiian tiki dive at this cool spot that offers 'Guadalatiki' cocktails with ingredients like house-made lime falernum and pumpkin-seed orgeat." - Nils Bernstein

The 30 Best Restaurants in Guadalajara, Mexico | Eater

"Take traditional antojitos, add tiki drinks and walls covered in old photos, and, voilà, you have Guadalajara’s only Guadalatiki bar. Tamales, red and green enchiladas covered in cream, and plates of sliced panela cheese with crumbled chicharrón prensado make excellent pairings for tropical beverages. The Pulque Tropical, for instance, blends cured strawberry pulque, pineapple syrup, and lemon with your choice of Cuban rum or aguardiente. Much of the crowd will be enjoying the simple, stimulating Margarita De La O or digging through selections of mezcal and raicilla from top local producers. [$$]" - Bill Esparza

This place feels like a trendy tavern and I adore it. Their cocktails are delicious and very well priced for speciality drinks. Their chorizo/potato tacos are the best I’ve ever eaten. The ambiance is great on a weekday, the staff is very helpful, and they’re very patient if Spanish isn’t your first language. Definitely a must go to in Guadalajara/Colonia Americana!

Laid back little cantina. About 200 pesos for most of their shots believe it’s 1.5oz pour. Have stuff like Tahona, Ancestral, tapatio flight, Fortaleza, Cascahuin flight. They have a good amount of allocated bottles as well. Employees are great and knowledgeable. Will be back in the future without a doubt.

Very friendly and attentive staff - though this review is mostly for the delicious tostada de salpicón 🔥

Outstanding food and great innovative drinks. Staff was extremely friendly and clearly enjoyed what they were doing. Would 100% recommend.

We came across this speakeasy, it was a little hidden and small but we loved the vibes and atmosphere. They had a dj and he was super cool. I asked to play a song and he delivered. The bartender was super chill and knowledgeable. We had two drinks and two shots each. By the end of the night I was tipsy. We did not buy food, it was expensive for small portions. The drinks were perfect and amazing. Would definitely go back.

We really enjoyed our experience at De La O! We didn’t have food, but we did enjoy a few cocktails (some of which were dealer’s choices and they did not disappoint!) the photos on google don’t do the cocktail bar justice, it’s got a great atmosphere and the bar is inviting!

It just doesn't get better than this for a cocktail bar. I can't even begin to describe how delicious their drinks are. I normally drink an Old Fashioned which are nearly perfect here. During my last visit I had the bartender do a "dealers choice" and he prepared the best most delectable gin and tonic I have ever had. Who new a gin and tonic could be so good. It was citric and lightly sweet. I loved it. If you love cocktails this is a must visit. Their specialty is tequila, mezcal and rum but they can do just about anything. They don't have anything prepared in advance. Every drink is hand crafted. This makes the drinkes incredibly fresh. I could go on and on. Just go there and try one.

Such a great cantina with fantastic music to set the mood and drinks that actually pack a punch. I was seated at a table in the very back of the restaurant, but even there, the lively atmosphere was apparent. I started with a Paloma, which did not disappoint, followed by a Mai Tai that was a bit intense, and ended with the Buena Hierbabuena, a perfectly balanced drink. This cantina doesn’t skimp on the alcohol—the drinks were strong and well-made, something I can’t say for many bars in Mexico, where they often go light on the alcohol. The service, while friendly, was a bit slow, but the overall vibe more than made up for it. Prices were reasonable, ranging from $130-180 pesos. Overall, this is truly a cantina with the right vibe and drinks to match. One of the best bars I’ve ever been to!

Yelp
Hip bar for legit cocktails. Definitely in a young trendy part of GDL, Colonia Americana. Dark but romantic decor inside but beautifully decorated. Drinks are made fresh with quality ingredients. They have some delicious bites too. Highly recommend this place if you want Mexican crafted cocktails. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Yelp
One of the main reasons I visit Guadalajara so frequently! Drinks AND food are incredible. In my recent trip I discovered the taco de chicharron and OMG OMG OMG! the best chicharron taco I've ever had! Topped with some tender nopalitos, to die for, and a slice of panela... wow! The chile relleno taco is also top of the list! My favorite drink is Otoño en Guadalajara, but there is a shortage of chartreuse, so it wasn't available this time around! :( I hope them French Monks get it together asap as we are in dire need of some Chartreuse! If you are in Guadalajara this is must for gourmet/original cocktails and delicious food/snacks! The ambiance and the staff are great too!

Yelp
I imagine most people come across this place by word of mouth. You won't find it in your tourist app or Michelin guide book. If you are lucky enough to find it though you have found a treasure. My very hip cousin brought my wife and I here for some drinks before a soccer match (Go Chivas!) excellent drinks and I guess what you might call tapas. Delicious bite size things to nibble on while you enjoy a variety of drinks centered around Mescal. All of the food items were delicious considering this is mostly a bar. Being from the good ol US of A I enjoy an old fashion so the bartender conjured up a Mescal old fashion from their own mescal for me and it was excellent. As the night progressed we enjoyed a variety of tapas and beverages and none was a disappointment. Dela O is now a must go to spot when visiting Guadalajara. To be honest the tail end of the night was a bit of a blur but my wife says I had a great time and I never disagree with my wife. Some how we ended up at the new Chivas Stadium cheering on Chivas against the miscreants from Puebla. We won. Definitely recommend this place

Yelp
Nice cocktails and loved the ambience. The food was fine. You put your own name and the number of people in your party on the paper hanging outside the door, if there is a wait.

Yelp
Beautiful little dive style bar. But there is nothing missing from their mixology or menu. When visiting guadalajara, will definitely return. The bartender was awesome. Although, i don't speak spanish well and that created communication issues. He was understanding made me feel comfortable. The panela con chicharron is delicious.

Yelp
Ordered Mai Tai ( both tequila & mezcal), Negroni & Paloma. All the drinks were great but my fav was both the Mai Tai.

Yelp
We went here and Habenero Negro the same night. The food and the atmosphere here are dark and heavy. We had a cheese and chicharones plate - quite tasty and tried Cecino for the first time. If bAcon and beef jerky made a baby it would be a cecino! Yum. The craft cocktails are spot on and the service was good. It's a great place but not as friendly and upbeat as Habanero Negro. Personal preference - definitely here if you want great craft cocktails in an dark funky bar.

Yelp
Awesome, drinks were spot on. Write your name on the list and then wander the street, several other bars on same block. Worth the wait. Host accidentally skipped over us, but brought us a shot of tequila as consolation. Atmosphere was not Tiki themed, it was like an old manor library. Great vibe. We had botanas, panella with warm tortillas and refried beans with perfect chips, cotija.

Yelp
Discovered this hidden gem through the help of our local street art tour guide Karen (@tourstreetartGDL). As a So Cal gringo, this place offers vibes that many hipster bar goers will be familiar with. Craft cocktails, tapas, and friendly service make this a definite stop for any tourists to check out. One cool highlight was the cups they serve the Mezcal in, Jicapa. I didn't do a whole lot of research but I was told this was the traditional way to drink it. Definitely try everything here, you won't regret it!

Yelp
Oh, what a fun place! After leaving Tequila our tour guide recommended this place to us. We were quite "happy" like I said we just left tequila. The atmosphere is super hipster in Guadalajara and they allow pets, the menu is super long but only because there is so much history in the place. I recommend asking the waiter to give you 5 minutes to peruse before ordering. You won't regret it!
