My wife and I visited the gourmet restaurant "de Leuf" in May 2025. This was our fifth visit there since Oct 2019.
Service (very good - 4.8/5):
The team was very friendly and very obliging. I really liked the atmosphere, which I would describe as professional and attentive.
Food (outstanding - 4.9/5):
The menu was very carefully planned and arranged. The kitchen continues to place a strong emphasis on fish and seafood. The style is still characterized by Asian components and interpretations. Everything tasted very good and I would rate the flavours as very good (4.8/5) overall.
As regards the standard of the food, I would describe the overall level as outstanding (4.9/5). The kitchen exceeded my expectations in this respect in many cases.
I would particularly like to highlight the excellent amuses and the equally excellent main course with lamb.
Wine and other drinks (outstanding - 4.9/5):
In my opinion, the wine pairing (including a sake) was very good (4.8/5). All the wines were from different, mostly European, wine-growing regions. I would describe the style as modern and varied. All the wines were very well matched to the dishes.
My wife had a pairing of non-alcoholic beverages, which the restaurant also offers. These drinks turned out to be excellent (5.0/5), elaborately homemade mocktails - which tasted excellent. Impressive.
Presentation:
In my opinion, the presentation of the food was outstanding (4.9/5):
Colors and decorations were appealing in some cases (4.3/5).
Textures and differences in temperatures were always remarkable (4.9/5).
I thought that the “special effects” were excellent (5.0/5): I noticed a simple surprise, some positionings and one or two simple sculptural elements. A simple fake effect and two effects with smoke overflowing the table were shown. Two of those otherwise rare olfactory effects were included. Last but not least, an optical effect was included, which was a first for me. This was achieved with a ball of ice in which the light refracted, causing the ball to glow.
I thought that the timing and sequencing as well as sizes of portions were outstanding (4.9/5).
The same goes for the tableside procedures (4.9/5). The service intensity remains remarkably high with many changing occupations, in one or two cases including the kitchen's team. In some cases, components were added to the dishes at the table. I liked the attunements to the dishes and, if necessary, the explanations of the aromatic composition.
I would rate the presentation of the beverages as outstanding (4.9/5).
The presentation of the wines remains very good: Often informative and with nice attunements in a modern style. The presentation of the mocktails was excellent: All were elaborately arranged at the table with excellent explanations and nice attunements.
Price (very good - 4.8/5)
In my opinion, the price-performance ratio was very good. The same goes for the price transparency.
In summary, I would say that the restaurant met my very high expectations with seemingly playful ease and exceeded them in many cases. I was quite impressed by the overall performance. We shall certainly visit de Leuf again.
