This was an unexpected culinary experience in the heart of Luzern’s tourist area. We made the reservation 2 days in advance, as there’s almost no chance of eating in the restaurant without one. The restaurant offers a set menu, there’s no à la carte option. We were worried there’d be too much food, but the pacing and wine pairing were wonderful. Nadine, Oscar, Yannick (not sure I got this right), and the rest of the team did a wonderful job. We really enjoyed the short stories about the food, and especially the wines. The fermented parts of the food added a unique texture and taste to the food. And the wines chosen really prolonged the aftertaste of the food. The team seems to a fixture in the restaurant scene in Luzern, so we’re really happy to have spent such a wonderful evening at the restaurant. 🙏

Loved this place! De Matos Café & Wine Bar is one of those spots where you instantly feel comfortable. The cakes are homemade and taste incredible, you can really tell they’re made with love. Great choice of wines and cocktails too, all top quality. The staff are genuinely friendly and attentive, always with a smile, which makes the whole experience even better. The design and atmosphere are really cool, stylish but still cozy and relaxed. Perfect for a coffee, a glass of wine, or an evening out with friends. Highly recommend checking it out if you’re in Luzern! Next to try the Restaurant!

Awesome wine bar! The staff, Freddy in particular, are all very friendly and knowledgeable. Great selection of wine, delicious food. I highly recommend this place!

De Matos Luzerne is the place that just fits every plan, whether it’s enjoying a morning coffee, sharing some delicious Spanish tapas for lunch in the bar , or relaxing on the sunny terrace over the weekend. They have an amazing wine list that pairs beautifully with any dish. And if you’re looking for something more refined, they also have a separate restaurant space dedicated to fine dining with creative, high-quality cuisine. Whether you're stopping by to unwind with a coffee, catch up with friends over lunch, or enjoy a more exclusive dinner experience, this place always delivers the perfect vibe and great quality. Definitely one of my favorite spots in Luzerne.

Nous avons dîné récemment au restaurant De Matos, et malheureusement l’expérience n’a pas été à la hauteur d’un établissement étoilé Michelin. La salle était presque vide, seulement deux autres tables occupées. Nous avons choisi deux menus dégustation à cinq plats, accompagnés d’une bouteille de vin. La première bouteille était bouchonnée et a dû être remplacée. La seconde était correcte, mais la conservation du vin semble poser problème. Dès le début, on nous a servi du beurre avec une brioche sucrée (avec l’huile d’olive) – un choix très surprenant et difficile à comprendre dans un restaurant de ce niveau. Sur les cinq plats, quatre étaient soit trop sucrés, soit trop salés. Le dernier, foie gras avec bœuf, était enfin bien préparé et savoureux, mais malheureusement servi froid, alors que la cuisine se trouve juste à côté. De plus, le poisson n’était manifestement pas frais, ce que nos organismes digestifs ont confirmé par la suite. Nous sommes restés à peine une heure avant de partir dîner ailleurs. L’addition, proche de 500 francs pour deux personnes avec le vin, nous a semblé totalement injustifiée au vu de la qualité proposée. Une expérience très décevante, loin des standards attendus d’un restaurant étoilé Michelin.

Schon des Öfteren vom Herrn de Matos gehört und gelesen, also wurde es endlich Zeit für einen Besuch. Die Begrüssung des Teams war freundlich, man erklärte uns kurz das Menü und dann ging es auch schon direkt los. Der Einstieg mit kleinen Häppchen machte sofort Spaß und ließ auf einen großartigen Abend hoffen. Die Zeit verging wie im Flug, was für mich immer ein gutes Zeichen ist. Jedes Gericht hatte Leichtigkeit und Charakter, genau die richtige Balance. Ich liebe es, essen zu gehen, ohne danach im Food-Koma zu liegen, denn so bleibt das Erlebnis auch im Nachhinein positiv in Erinnerung. Bevor es zum Dessert ging, bekamen wir noch einen kleinen Käsegang, der sich als wahre Götterspeise entpuppte. An diesen süß-salzigen Moment werde ich wohl noch lange denken. Der Service war professionell, aufmerksam und herzlich, einfach authentisch, was das Ambiente perfekt abrundete. Es freut mich sehr zu hören, dass das De Matos inzwischen einen Stern erkocht hat. Das ließ sich schon an jenem Abend erahnen, denn man spürte in jedem Gang, wie viel Liebe, Hingabe und Freude darin steckte.
