"A former bank has been lovingly and carefully restored to provide a home for this restaurant in the bustling Peak District town of Chapel-en-le-Frith. It’s now a laid-back, charmingly run place that the area can be proud of, serving ambitious dishes with a creative edge – such as a deconstructed version of a bouillabaisse. If you’re an indecisive diner, opt for the tasting menu; if you like things more relaxed, come at lunch for more pub-influenced dishes like fish pie and grilled pork chop. Two beautifully appointed apartments sit above the restaurant." - Michelin Inspector

The reviews really say it all. After seeing so many great reviews and noticing they offer a tasting menu, we were keen to try it. Even the three-course menu was excellent. In the end, we didn’t go for the tasting menu because the two of us ordered six different dishes instead — and every single one was fantastic. I don’t have a sweet tooth, so I can’t comment much on the desserts, but my favourite dishes were definitely the starters, especially the duck pâté. The staff were incredibly polite and attentive throughout. We visited on 27th December, and the atmosphere was wonderfully calm yet still festive.

Absolutely amazing experience. Food was delicious and the service impeccable. Cater to all needs and requests which adds to the dining experience. The front of house staff are excellent and the head chef very kindly spoke to us at the end of the evening as we were interested in how he designed the menu. Would definitely visit again

We had a really good lunch here, a good menu with accomplished cooking. Service was friendly and attentive and the decor was outstanding. We would recommend this establishment if you are in the Peak District.

Great food experience with good variety across both menus, also a beer garden out the back for summer

This is as good as dining gets. Five of us had the Tasting Menu, and two had the matched wines. Everything worked, plus one of our party, could not eat shellfish, and the replacement was brilliant. Staff were wonderful, not pushy, not superier just service when you wanted it. Good speed through the eight courses. Cannont compliment the staff (and owners enough). Chef was pretty wonderful as well. Thanks.

We knew that it was expensive before we booked but was a little disappointed at the service. We were given a table near the toilets and when we asked to move to what was 2 free tables at the time , we were met with an emphatic no .. no reason given just that it was not possible. Also the waiter forgot to ask how my husband wanted his steak cooked. Staff were also not knowledgeable about the spirits on the drinks menu. The menu was recently altered with no lamb or pork but when the food came we really pleased. The surprise additions of game terrine and the focaccia bread and black garlic butter were welcome as the portions are quite small. There is a nice ambience and the chef also make a couple of appearances during the evening.

It’s hard for me to relay in words how incredible Deacon’s Bank was. If I could, I would give it 6 stars. Please, do yourself a favour, and order the French Martini, the Cod, and the white chocolate dessert. Truly a gratifying experience!

Was hoping to be wowed but found it disappointingly average for an inflated price. Not a very exciting menu to start with so we have starters a miss and went straight for mains. The chicken was fine - nothing wrong with it but also nothing especially exciting either. In the ‘posh pub grub’ category really rather than what the vibe of the place and prices suggest. Desert again was nice enough but didn’t blow me away and there’s plenty of decent country pubs nearby that do better and more exciting innovative food, at lower prices and with enough food on your plate you don’t need to make a load of toast when y oh get home. Also the own name IPA tastes like someone swilled it round an ashtray before bottling it - no points for that one. Overall, whilst the food is perfectly edible, it’s a bit ostentatious and thinks it’s better than it is. You can do better in plenty of places nearby.
