21 Best Bars in Sydney | Condé Nast Traveler

"Locals and regulars comprise the effortlessly hip crowd at Dead Ringer, an elegant neighborhood bar with raw timber surfaces, big potted ferns, and a casual vibe. Eight different Australian wines are opened daily and served by the glass; in addition, there's a selection of Aussie-only beers and ciders. Cocktails tend to be on the drier side; the house cocktail, the Dead Ringer Aperitif, (vermouth, pineapple, and tonic) is a standout. And a drinks-friendly food menu spins organic produce into Australian share plates like roasted free-range chicken with peppers and grilled peaches with radicchio." - Kris Fordham, Laura Dannen Redman

Everything about this place is sublime. The food is amazing, the wait staff is amazing and the atmosphere is amazing. Huge shout out to Sally for making our anniversary special. Sally kindly gave me and my partner a courtesy drink with our dessert as it was a special occasion. I order the roasted fish with kipfler potato’s and to this day is the best fish I have ever eaten. Huge props to the chef. 100% recommend 5* for food and for exceptional lovely, warm and friendly service.

Food was great. We ordered feed me menu and gnocchi and black Angus steak was excellent. We also loved salted sticky date pudding in the end. Friendly service. Approachable staffs. Dining inside atmosphere was excellent. Music was not too loud. Really enjoyed excellent dining services and foods.

Outstanding - so impressed with the food I will definitely go back! The arrangement is sharing from small to larger plates. The steak was melt in your mouth perfection, & the leeks the same. The creamed almonds were yum… as was the stracciatella, grapes & candied fennel. Mind you, I was the only one who felt this way amongst my group of 3. They were more partial to the creamed almonds from the small plates. The gnocchi was perhaps the least favourite - a little stodgy? But the charcoal leeks - more please!!

Google
Was the perfect farmhouse rustic modern Australian vibe I was looking for. The staff were very friendly and we ate so much to the point I skipped breakfast the next morning. Oh highly recommend the freshly baked madeleines too!

I had a fantastic dining experience at Dead Ringer in Surry Hills. The roasted eggplant and steak were absolutely delicious, showcasing the best of modern Australian cuisine. A must-visit for food enthusiasts!

We ordered the set menu for a birthday celebration. The server was extremely attentive and friendly, and proactively accommodated all our dietary needs which was very much appreciated. The food was tasty, the ambience was fun and lively, and it felt like very good value for money.

Google
Always a delight at Dead Ringer, would gladly take anyone there. Had a quiet Monday night dinner with my friend and had an off-menu martini served at the table, some delicious food (risotto, baked aubergine and piquilla peppers) and shared a bottle of wine. It was the perfect way to start the week!

Open on a Monday. We ate the set menu. Totally delicious and well styled and cooked to perfection. Divine scallops and the steak was fantastic. Gluten free options were superb. Gnocchi was light and fluffy and melt on the mouth delicious. Lovely warm service. Will be back. ❤️

Yelp
Yum! We stopped by deadringer immediately after getting into Sydney for some much needed fresh food. We were not disappointed. We ordered the salmon, burrata, and something else I can't remember with tomatoes. All were delicious and a good amount of food for 3 people. The staff was nice and understanding of us being tired/having all our luggage. Would totally recommend, really cool and hip place to check out.

Yelp
Delicious food. Incredible Service. Very small intimate restaurant. The passionfruit maid is the best drink I've had in my entire life. So fresh and light. The lamb shoulder was to die for. Perfect flavor. Super tender. The pumpkin hummus was delicious as well. Everything we had had distinct flavor. You could really tell it was made with love and quality ingredients. A must try when you're in Sydney. Worth the splurge!

Yelp
Went there for the bottomless brunch with a friend I was visiting. Food was on point. Service was amazing. The atmosphere was absolutely relaxed and wholesome. The bottomless brunch menu literally will fill you up and the flavours presentation and dishes are fantastic. The Scottish server that we had was absolutely delightful and made the experience all that much better highly recommend as doesn't hurt your wallet and the quality is beyond. Caters to all dietary needs

Yelp
We found this place on Yelp, and it was amazing. The food was delicious. We ordered - Chicken Liver Parfait, Scallops, Broccolini and the Brisket for mains. Their menu was dated, so looks like it changes daily. I loved the food was very tasty. I also had the Mulled wine which was made really well. A must go!

Yelp
Came here for Meatless Monday. Nice cozy place, friendly staff, on point with attention. Got the set menu...amazing. Creamed almonds with the perfect beet crunch, beet salad with goat cheese and kale. Chickpea fritters could have been a bit crispier. Cauliflower and gnocchi, and we each got our own pavlova, which is amazing melt in your mouth sweetness like clouds coated in imaginary fortune cookies. So glad we came here.

Yelp
Our food was AMAZING! The place is pretty trendy but the dress is casual. The wait to get your food items are a little long, but this is the type of place where you get to know who you're sitting with, so the time went by fast for us. The skirt steak was GREAT! And the lamb was really good too! For appetizers we got goat cheese with beets and fritters. Both were interesting and novel.

Yelp
I've walked Bourke street many times but I never managed to spot this resto till a couple of days ago when a friend suggested we had dinner here. Now that I've tasted the food, I'm not sure I can stay away. The food was such a riot of taste, it was so excitingly good. We had the beef tartare, the chicken liver parfait, and crispy polenta. I was impressed with all. The beef tartare was slightly cooked which was unusual, but I loved it as it was mixed with some sort of fruits. Amazing flavor combo of sweet and salty. The crispy polenta was amazing, if I go vegetarian I would add this to my regular repertoire. For dessert, we ordered the olive oil cake with cream and berries. OMG. So light and tasty. I regretted sharing it. I shall come back for this and try to find the recipe online. If you go, try and sit outside as it gets really loud inside.

Yelp
Amazing food, wine and experience. I savored every single bit, it was so well done and perfectly flavored and balanced. Great gf and vegan options without skipping out on flavor or quality. Our waitress was super great and very knowledgeable about the wine list to boot. 10/10 would recommend. I'll definitely be a regular here.

Yelp
Came from out of town with a friend for brunch. Firstly I want to commend your service in confirming the booking, I had chosen outside seating, but as there was a chance it would be a miserable day, I was phoned to confirm if I would like to be inside instead, and if the weather was nice they would move us back outside. Then the service we received on the day was superb! Friendly, chatty and made to feel welcome! The set brunch menu was divine! Not your typical brunch food, but so delicious! Topped off with 2 hours of bottomless mimosas, and my friend and I had a fantastic day! Highly recommend!!!

Yelp
We enjoyed our meal and went with the sharing option under advice from our server. She was very good at her job and we left fat and happy.

Yelp
Not sure how this has unanimous 5 star reviews. The food looks and tastes like something you'd be pleasantly surprised to get at a friend's dinner party, like "oh wow, I didn't know you could cook!" Given the price, though, I'd rather just go to that friend's house.

Yelp
Went here upon a friends suggestion before and evening concert. It is in a house near Taylor Square. It was surprisingly busy for a Thursday night. I booked through email and they were responsive very quickly. Food is tapas style, designed to share and ranges between small and large dishes and some sides and 3 dessert options. We ordered the beef tartare, which had some crisps on the side, and the yolk was replaced by aoili. This dish was ok, but I've eaten better ones. Had the buffalo mozzarella which was nice and also a generous portion. For the larger dishes, we had the lamb ribs - these were delicious and the top pic from my party of 4. We also got eggplant that had a wasabi flavoured sauce, a chicken dish with cavolo Nero and a side of greens with a nice crisp topping. Although the meals weren't as tasty as some recent places I've been, my friends loved everything, so I might be a bit picky. Serving sizes were very generous and presented nicely. They gave us a complimentary dessert to try, so nice of them. It was toffee ice cream with a malt crunch. The ice cream was a hidden little crunch at the bottom. The lady who served us was outstanding. Excellent service, explaining the dishes and continued to check in on us.

Yelp
There are few twins in Surry Hills to this dead ringer. I voted for a long lunch and with seven courses in their manifest I was treated to a delicious feast to share with my date and pooch. And both were welcomed (yes, it's very date friendly hehe). Creamed almonds /w dried grapes on toast. Heavenly. Roast chicken /w spinach and onion. Satisfying. Few parties would be as happy after my vote today.

Yelp
Dead ringer is awesome. I'll definitely be coming back. The bartender was creative, the food was excellent (roasted cauliflower, pan steak). All around a great experience.

Yelp
Beautiful atmosphere. We were seated at the bar which made for an interesting night as we watched all the carefully made cocktails go out and our drinks were never left empty. Wonderful service! They have a 'Feed Me' menu however we opted for our own selection. The food was a little hit and miss in terms of flavour and portion size for dollar value however nothing that would stop be going back again.

Yelp
Visiting from LA and NYC and came across this place and I'm so glad we did! Great food, great cocktails, very friendly staff. Loved it here!

Yelp
Wow, wow, and wow good food. When in Australia you can also think u maybe in Canada, USA, or also UK, but the accent of the local people will definitely snap you out of it. Well their accent is closer to UK but all these places for one thing in common, first language is English. I really cannot tell the accent of UK with Australians. It sounds the same to me.

Yelp
We went here recently for a catch up with friends and we all left looking for a chance to visit again. Right from the start they had us on side when they offered free drinks to help compensate for a late table. Every dish was amazing, with the dishes I expected to love delivering and the dishes I wasn't expecting to love becoming my new found favourites. Try the barrumindi it is out of this world.

Yelp
Service was phenomenal. Food was exquisite - hats to chef as this was the most flavourful meal (was at a 5* restaurant earlier this week) and this just beat it by a long shot. Definitely recommend
