The Best Portland Coffee Shops, According to the Owner of Deadstock Coffee | Eater Portland

"Owner Ian Williams has a story so hard to believe it’s been told many times over: he was a janitor at Nike, pitched a shoe design inspired by the wet floor sign, and moved up the ladder. His Chinatown coffee shop debuted in 2015 after a few years as a cart, opening its doors when Williams was ready to take his nerdy, obsessive talent from sneakers to lattes. Its popularity was almost overwhelming at times, but it has become a mainstay in the area; Williams even opened a splashy, huge flagship in Beaverton in fall 2024. With his hectic work schedule, he takes a lot of meetings at, understandably, coffee shops." - Paolo Bicchieri

Deadstock Coffee in Beaverton delivers an experience that goes beyond just good coffee. The moment you step inside, you’re welcomed by a spacious, well-designed environment that feels both energizing and relaxed. Thanks to the large glass walls surrounding the café, the natural sunlight pours in beautifully, creating a bright and uplifting atmosphere that makes you want to stay a little longer. I ordered an iced mocha and was impressed by how well-balanced it was. The espresso had great depth without being overly bitter, and the chocolate complemented it perfectly—rich but not overwhelmingly sweet. It’s clear the team puts real care into their craft, which makes a difference in every sip. The layout of the space is another highlight. It’s much larger than many other coffee shops in the area, offering plenty of seating whether you want to work, catch up with friends, or just relax. One particularly unique feature is a separate area that includes a barbershop chair and shelves filled with sneakers, adding a creative and cultural vibe that feels very intentional. It’s not just décor—it ties into Deadstock’s broader identity and gives the space character without trying too hard. Overall, Deadstock Coffee Beaverton nails what a modern café should be: a place where excellent coffee, thoughtful design, and a creative spirit all come together. Whether you’re a coffee enthusiast or just looking for a bright, inspiring place to spend time, this spot is well worth visiting. I’m looking forward to my next visit.

The best coffee shop is finally in Beaverton! You will want to become a regular here, trust me. The coffee (& other drinks) are amazing. The staff are literally the nicest people you will ever meet and the space is perfect. There’s lots of space to grab a drink with a friend, a big group or setup shop to get some work done. Cannot recommend this place enough. It’s also sneaker/sports themed as a bonus. Lots of fun Easter eggs all over the shop.

At Deadstock’s brand new location in Beaverton. Deadstock is 100% African American owned. This is their third location including the original in Chinatown in Portland. Bought beans and got a Spicy Deadstock Mocha. Deadstock Coffee was founded several years ago in Portland’s Chinatown by Ian Williams who is a former Nike footwear developer. Deadstock is one of a very few African American owned coffee roasters in America. Ian Williams combines his love of sneakers and coffee at his cafes. Makes sense that he’s opening a location in Beaverton as it’s where the sprawling Nike World Headquarters Campus is located.

Google
Super espresso - thought it tasted different but in a really good way. Didn’t get a chance to check which beans they use but really good stuff. Friendly barista serving today and overall good relaxed atmosphere.. the kind you’d want in a coffee shop you love to go to

Really comfortable and air conditioned space with a lot of cool decoration. The space tells a cool story and I loved my iced coconut mocha, it was strong and refreshing.

Google
Got a matcha.the gentleman at the counter asked if unsweetened was okay, I said yes. Absolutely the best matcha I have had in town. Perfectly sweet on it's own (for a matcha), tastes like the temp was just right with no bitterness. Just the right matcha to milk ratio. Incredible, I will be back.

Google
I'm (unfortunately) a coffee snob, and Deadstock is one of the few cafes in the Portland area I can actually justify the money for over my home setup, they're just that good. Meticulous shot pulling, great milk drinks, and the best hot chocolate I've had in my life!

Google
Exceptional latte, 10/10. Barista was great, friendly, but not in the over-the-top way that gets annoying. The space has a slightly different look/feel to a standard coffee shop. It's a very relaxing space.

Yelp
Such a good coffee shop. And it made my sneaker head husbands heart sing! Cool atmosphere AND delicious coffee. I got the cookie butter special and expected it to be sweet or artificial tasting. But it was neither- it was perfect and very good. Not too sweet but still flavorful. Will definitely be back

Yelp
The coffee shop is designed around shoes and hence many designs that are shoe like. But loved the different menu items there which is a twist to actual coffee places. With enough lounging area, it's a good place to work and hangout with friends I think.

Yelp
It was very comfy there when we went. It was our first visit and what a neat little place. They had swanky music playing, the big doors were open and the staff were very friendly. My wife really enjoyed the mini art exhibit that was adjacent to the main seating area. My one gripe is the lack of menu forces this introvert to talk to people. Good thing my wife was there. I'll work on being more social, y'all work on that menu.

Yelp
We were looking for a great craft coffee place and was recommended to check this place out. So glad we did! We came 3x in a week because it was so good, clean, and close by. Parking is easy and not crowded. I loved the Nike theme and the latte art that comes with it. The baristas kept to themselves but overall pleasant experience. Definitely come check this business out!

Yelp
Check out the downtown Beaverton location of Deadstock, the brand seems to be everyone in Portland right now. Good coffee and drinks with a fun vibe and nice space to gather. The service is friendly and with conversations flowing, they def take their time, don't expect to zip in and out with your coffee. The space nods to the owner's Nike connection and love of sports with Nike shoe boxes all around the separate meeting space on the left, plus a hallway wallpapered with sports action shots and magazine photos. You'll find easier parking and a chiller vibe than its Portland stores.

Yelp
I attended on the official grand opening day. Awesome new coffee shop in town. Very clean aesthetic and the coffee is fantastic. Everyone was very friendly and organized. The vibes were happy and very relaxed. They have a lot of cool sneaker themed stuff here like their other location. Highly recommend giving them a visit at your earliest convenience. You no longer have to go downtown to experience this!

Yelp
Great place to hang out for coffee. I love the aesthetic of the place. The service was great and people were friendly. Will definitely be coming back for more coffee.

Yelp
My chai was good and I like that they do a fun design on the drinks. But the vibes were weird - they don't have physical menus in person so check online before you head over! Cute spot tho with the garage door entrance

Yelp
By far my favorite place to get a coffee and a snack. The owner is the greatest guy, and every staff member I've met has been really nice. Highly recommend their LeBronald Palmer.
