Restaurant 1925 at the Pompadour

Absolutely amazing evening. They gave us the best dining experience we have ever had. From start to finish everything was amazing. We were lucky enough to have the place booked to ourselves meaning the most fantastic service. Very active while giving us space. A detailed explanation of the food and the wine pairing was perfect. Food was perfect, wine pairing perfect and service was the best we have ever had.

Party of 3 for the lunch menu on Friday, booked the table, was quite busy so glad we did. Very refined surroundings and service to match. We were efficiently shown to our table, given menus and ordered sparkling water. This was brought immediately and glasses filled. Wine and beer was then ordered. We didn't have long to wait for the drinks and our food orders taken. Three different starters, one from the side options brought as a starter, oysters. Soup and mussels were the others. Fish of the day was mackerel along with ravioli. We ordered sides of potatoes and broccoli. Really enjoyed the mackerel. Don't normally eat it roasted. Dessert was Panna cotta and fife strawberries. All done at a nice pace in a relaxing atmosphere. Staff were accommodating to our requirements. Much to like. Dean Banks successful again. Worth the visit

I was slightly disappointed in our tasting menu experience. The staff were lovley and the quality of the cooking was excellent but it all left me unsatisfied. The atmosphere of the reastraunt is cold. The cool colours, wide spaces, and nothing to break up the light sources all contributed to this feeling of exposure. The food itself was interesting but lacked acid and depth. I love eating new ingredients, but it felt like I was limited to my parents' organic veg box with no acid to really liven it up. I wanted a pickled element in almost every dish. Even the desserts, which were rhubarb( one of the sharpest fruits) and the baked cream, were very one-note. There is no acid and no real substance to either. All the dishes lacked substance. I was craving carbohydrates the whole way through. I felt like we had the gluten-free menu. The meat course, quail was the least inspired I felt, I wanted crunch, I wanted sauce, I wanted acid, I wanted layers! I wanted a carb! If you are going to roast a beautiful quail leg like a mini roast dinner, then give me more!

The tasting menu was to die for. So many great food on there. As suggested it was a tasting menu but you got a lot of food once finished.... The service was awesome and the people were so nice and helpful. We didn't have to wait long for each dish. Just long enough to talk about it and enjoy it before the next came out. But we did not feel rushed.

Beautiful setting - we had a window seat with fabulous views. Lovely atmosphere with enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff. The pig's head croquettes were the reason for my visit and didn't disappoint. Every course was fantastic. Great wine list and the bottle we chose was perfect. Would highly recommend.

We stopped by on a whim tonight and it was the perfect choice. Parmeda and Robert were amazing, the view was one of a kind, a direct view of the castle. The Chef and staff were personable and the food exceeded expectations. I had venison, and the staff helped me match a great scotch to complement. The venison was cooked perfect, not gamey or chewy, the meals pacing was perfect and we never had to ask for a thing. Everyone was on their A game. We were celebrating an anniversary and it couldn’t have been better.

We received this as a gift. We have visited many fine dining restaurants and in comparison this is average. The staff are really lovely and friendly. The food was ok. I did not enjoy the “foam” with nearly every course. Every course was a mouthful of food. We paid for extras and was still starving when we left. The dessert were the best courses, but could have done with much larger portions. The scallops were an extra course at £20 per person and I honestly don’t think it was a full scallop per person. A complete rip off but that must be how they make their money back. A large bottle of water, coke, bread (extra) and two portions of scallops (extra) came to more than the 5 course tasting menu for two. I would give it a miss. It was also a hassle to book as the link didn’t work to redeem the voucher and they never answer the phone.

This is a first class addition to the Edinburgh restaurant scene. The testing menu had an amazing selection of courses incorporating some amazing flavours. We added the supplementary lobster dish, all courses were brilliant but this was different class. The matched wines were also beautifully paired. I would highly recommend and will most definitely be back.
