The 25 Best Restaurants In New Orleans - New Orleans - The Infatuation

"When you want to eat New Orleans-style seafood that’s better (and half the price of what you’ll find at touristy spots in the Quarter), come to Deanie’s on Hayne. Focus on the specials—last time we visited we had the crabmeat-stuffed redfish served with squash and salad for around $20. The seafood platters are also always a winner, especially since they’re totally shareable with heaping amounts of fried shrimp, catfish with stuffed crab, oyster patties, and onion rings. Throw in a few schooners of beer and any of the desserts and you’ll be joyfully stuffed. Say hi to Maw Maw Deanie if you’re there on Thursdays—the original owner hangs out in the casual dining room, and might even come up to your table for a quick chat." - chelsea brasted, zella palmer, carlo mantuano, megan braden perry

The 10 Best Po’Boys In New Orleans - New Orleans - The Infatuation

"Deanie’s on Hayne is somewhere to get amazing seafood that’s half the price of the stuff you’ll find at touristy spots in the Quarter. The same can be said for their po’boys. The shrimp, oyster, and catfish sandwiches are some of the best in town, but our favorite is the stuffed crab. It’s adapted from an entree on their menu with Creole Italian crabmeat dressing that’s served in a hollowed-out shell, or sometimes in little aluminum crab-shaped tins. It’s slightly crispy from being under the broiler, and gets finished off with butter and seasoned bread crumbs. Now imagine that combo on French bread and dressed like a po’boy. The result is fantastic." - megan braden perry

The food was pretty good. I tried the crawfish rolls, which were delicious with a mild kick from the spice. I also had the shrimp platter and swapped the fries for red beans and rice. The beans were perfectly cooked and melted in my mouth, though I would’ve liked a little more rice. The shrimp was good, and the cocktail sauce tasted like it was made in-house. Just a heads up: like many places here, they leave the tails on the shrimp, and sometimes there’s still the vein. My friend had the combo platter, and I tried her fried oysters and they were pretty good, especially dipped in ketchup mixed with hot sauce.

The food was delicious, the staff so kind. I hope management acknowledges Brianna- she is one of the best servers I had in my life. She was extremely efficient , kind and patient. She checked on the table multiple times and ensured our food tasted good.

This restraunt was suggested by a native on a flight home as one of the best and freshest seafood in town. Found it to be true, and even better the casual atmosphere and welcoming staff made it special. Recommend to all as a great seafood restraunt with a family feel.

The food was exceptionally fresh and delicious. This was our first time visiting this place while in New Orleans. Cozy southern atmosphere with a great staff and amazing food.

My boyfriend Trigger and I, favorite place in Bucktown to eat at! Always fresh, hot, delicious, and tasty! The service is always great with little to no wait time for a table. We have been dedicated customers since the beginning of of our relationship and that’s been over 13 years now. Thanks for all the beautiful memories and delicious food! We love to order the jumbo stuffed fried shrimps for my boyfriend and I love the stuffed flounder with a side of carrot 🥕 soufflé! They also serve fresh boiled seasoned potatoes instead of bread and butter as you wait for your entree course. We absolutely love Deanies Seafood 🦞 and I highly recommend!

Google
Food is delicious!! Service was awesome!!! Menu prices are fair & reasonable. You have the fresh seafood market on one side & the restaurant on the other side. We will be stopping by before we leave town to get crawfish to go. 5 lbs is only 20.00.

Google
Awesome experience and great service and atmosphere. The food was amazing. Make sure you grab a t-shirt while you're there. They also have a store connected to a restaurant so you can buy and take home and pig out.

A group of us decided to go to Deanies on Good Friday. Parking can be a problem at busy times but there are additional lots available on the side and across the street from the restaurant. There was a large crowd waiting to get in, of course, but staff did an excellent job in moving down the list. Note: everyone in the party must be present before they seat you. You will be asked to wait until everyone is present for the hostess. All the food came out fresh, hot, and delicious. I loved that instead of bread, Deanies serves boil potatoes from the seafood boil and butter. The blue crabs and crawfish were nicely seasoned but not too spicy. Our server was friendly and checked on us throughout our meal. There are dessert options, and we shared because we were stuffed. Overall a great time.

Yelp
Our waitress Felicia was amazing! Best waitress ever! Food was delicious! Highly recommend!

Yelp
FELICIA IS AMAZING! BEST WAITRESS EVER!! Service was amazing. Food was delicious. We will be back to Deanie's Seafood to see Felicia!

Yelp
Really enjoyed my meal here. I ordered a cup of chicken & shrimp gumbo with an order of friend shrimp. Before our meal came out, we received a plate of the most delicious red potatoes. I'm used to bread being served before the meal comes, but Deanie's may be on to something with these potatoes! They were deliciously seasoned and cooked perfectly. It didn't take long for our order to come out and everything was fresh and hot. Our waitress was very friendly and answered any questions that we had. My only complaint was that I wish we had been informed of the 20% charge for splitting the check. We were a party of 2, had we known that, we would have asked for one check and split it up ourselves later.

Yelp
Out in the town for a little vacation from Las Vegas. Deanie's is staple so we had to stop by. We ordered the stuffed shrimp and a pound boiled shrimp. Food was delicious, stuffed shrimp were crispy and not overly filled. My wife and I were very pleased with the carrot soufflé! We could have easily eaten ten more of those.

Yelp
My family ate at Deanie's Seafood in Bucktown today. We had 2 giant seafood platters that were cooked to perfection. We also had onion rings that were wonderfully seasoned with tender juicy onions. Today we tried the bacon wrapped shrimp appetizer. They were delicious. We also had the best server I've ever had at Deanie's and for that matter, anywhere. This servers name is Felicia, and if you go to Deanie's, you should definitely ask for her. We never had to ask for drink refills, extra napkins, tartar sauce, or cocktail sauce. It was an amazing experience that I would recommend for everyone. Liz C.

Yelp
Deanie's catered the Rummel class of 85 reunion last weekend and I was very impressed. The setup was seamless and the caterers were very professional. The food was deliciousĺ. I have never had such tasty New Olreans classics as their Crawfish Etoufee and jambalaya. The etouffee was packed with crawfish and the roux was out of this world. The jambalaya had a lot of chopped seasoning that gave it such a great taste whi h was so different from the usual dry bland versions that many restaurants offer. The catfish was seasoned and fried to perfection with a nice flavorful batter. The bread pudding was delectable. I will definitely use Deanie's catering for my next event.

Yelp
The food was amazing! My favorite was the crab balls, and bbq shrimp! This was my first time trying fried soft crabs and it wasn't what I thought, it was good as well. The service was good as well, nothing took too long to come out, even though it was busy the food still came out fast. They also bring potatoes out to the table while you wait on your food, that was a great touch to the experience . I will be back again, I enjoyed the food, the vibe and the service !

Yelp
Our waitress was new, but she done a very good job. It was her second day. Kudos to her!!!! My sandwich was full of shrimp. My sandwich ranith over (lol). It just need some mayo. It had no dressing on it, but it was good anyways. I will be back. My aunt said the catfish was delicious.

Yelp
Omg ... if you like fried seafood and are really hungry this is the place to be. After you see the size portions of what they give you, you ask yourself who could eat all that. Start with a crab gumbo that was awesome, then we ordered fried artichoke hearts. For my entrée, we shared a gigantic plate of fried seafood all was great, but those fried oysters are to die for. If you're ever in the area visit this location. Check this place out I know you'll like it.

Yelp
My auntie love Deanie's and wanted to get out of New Orleans during our visit. So to Bucktown we go. It was full but not to crowded for a Friday night. Prices are reasonable we decided to share a fried 2 platter combo substituting the French fries for red beans and rice. First of all. The potato's are perfectly cooked. Seasons soft. I love them. My aunt had a cup of seafood gumbo. It was very oceany lol if that's a word. Very seafood forward. To much for my liking but she ate the whole cup. The shrimp and catfish was GREAT . Lightly battered seasoned to perfection. Had just the right amount of seasoning and heat. Hands down the best read beans and rice I have had at a long long time. EVEN THE TARTAR AND COCKTAIL SAUCE IS AMAZING ! 10 out of 10 And my aunt decided to order a shrimp poboy to go. I'm sure it will be great. Courtney was great! Attentive and knowledgeable.

Yelp
Definitely has been my Favorite Restaurant, For years . Many Years . Felicia , was our server. Had a taste for a Barque Root Beer , in a bottle . Our waitress suggested a Arnold Palmer . It was great . The Seafood Platter is always been my favorite. And it was good as always. Thank you Felicia .

Stephanie S.

Yelp
Good service. It's funny- they serve boiled potatoes and butter instead of bread and butter. The 2 stars is for the food: bacon wrapped shrimp were super small and over cooked (had a sauce on it, which is odd for me). The stuffed fried shrimp was too stuffed and gooey. Just not my taste of food.

Yelp
Stopped here for lunch. It had been 24 plus years since visiting. The entire experience was not as good as I remembered it being. The fried seafood was good, but far from great. Service was excellent!

Yelp
10/27/2024 When in LA you have to get crawfish, oysters and more! My boyfriend's god mother wanted to take us to Deanie's Seafood and I am always down to try a new spot. As long as I get my oysters lol That was my mission while I was here. Eat as many oysters as I can. For the table we ordered the following: Boiled potatoes with butter on the side. Two trays of charbroiled oysters- BBQ charbroiled oysters and the charbroiled oyster with crab on top. 6 boiled crabs- Side note this is when I learned how to break them apart. Pretty cool! I ordered the catfish platter. This platter could be for three people! There was so much I took it home and ate it on the plane. My boyfriend ordered the Barbeque shrimp. The portion of food on his plate was huge. He tore it up! My boyfriends god mother ordered the combo platter. This came with shrimp, oysters and catfish. I should have ordered this. The oysters were delicious. Everything we ordered was amazing! I would have ordered another tray of oyster but my boyfriends god mother was paying so I didn't want to be greedy haha just means I need to make another trip out there.

Yelp
What separates a good meal from a truly memorable experience is the quality of service, and Felicia exceeded all expectations. Her kindness, attentiveness, and genuine care transformed our lunch into an unforgettable afternoon. Deanie's should be proud to have such a remarkable team member. Upon arriving at Deanie's with my father, I was immediately struck by the warm and inviting ambiance. It was 2:00 in the afternoon, and my father hadn't eaten all day due to a busy morning. His hunger was palpable, and I worried that his patience might wear thin. However, Felicia's attentive and compassionate demeanor put us both at ease. Felicia was not just a server; she was a true professional who exuded excellence in every interaction.. Her patience was unwavering as we perused the menu, and she made thoughtful recommendations based on our preferences. When our orders arrived, Felicia ensured that my father's seafood platter was served promptly and he had sufficient condiments. She checked in on us discreetly, making sure that he had everything he needed. Her genuine concern for his well-being touched my heart. But it didn't end there. During the course of our meal, I shared with Felicia that my father had driven over two hours to meet up with me. As we finished our meals and packaged the remainder, Felicia surprised us by offering to pack my father's remaining beverage in a to-go cup for his return ride. It was a small gesture, but it spoke volumes about her commitment to exceptional service. As we left the restaurant, I knew that we would be back. Deanie's has earned a loyal customer in me, and I eagerly look forward to returning to Felicia's section. Bisque 5/5 A great alternative to gumbo. Onion rings 5/5 Plentiful, crispy and served piping hot. Perfect for sharing, Ice cream pina colada 5/5 Delicious and packs a punch.

Yelp
Great place for fresh seafood in New Orleans. Get the grilled redfish. For sides, the carrot soufflé is so delicious. Add onion rings and a house salad with fig vinaigrette. So lucky to get a table for two without a reservation on a Friday night. Thanks to Karen for the great service.

Yelp
Today for lunch went to the original deanie's location (hadn't been there in like 25 years). Got a shrimp poboy - whoever made this poboy needs to go train at the magazine street location - sandwich was just thrown together with shrimp that were a bit over cooked and payed extra for dressed which was mostly chopped lettuce. When I go to the magazine location the shrimp are hot and cooked just right and dressed means more than just lettuce, two tomato slices and three pieces of pickle. Guess next time I want a shrimp poboy, I need to go uptown or to another seafood restaurant.

Yelp
Deanies is CONSISTENT fa'show!!!!! My boy and I shared a HALF seafood platter, something that 6 years I ago, I smashed by myself, and TODAY we, WE, had many leftovers!

Yelp
I have coming to Deanie's well since it's been Deanie's. Consistently great food, huge portions and free boiled potatoes... with butter. Ambiance is very nice, a bar and great service... I enjoyed my meal here.... Happy Veterans Day to all!
google avatar

Yelp
This was a local recommendation to try and honestly, I was willing to be adventurous. I'm glad I did, because the food was really good and you get HUGE portion sizes. They fill those styrofoam containers to the brim! This place is no frills so expect a few health code violations somewhere lol. Speaking of violations, the bathroom was unclean and scary looking, but that doesn't take away from the food. Next time I'll get takeout.
google avatar

Alex D.

Yelp
Deanie's is an amazing spot for great seafood that is reasonably priced. The service is good and the staff makes you feel like you're at your mama's house. The ambiance is very homey as well. My family has been going to Deanie's for years and we just brought a group of out of town friends and they loved it. Highlights were the shrimp etoufeé, the 1/2 fried seafood platter, and the bbq shrimp.
google avatar

Yelp
The food was amazing. The service was spot on. No complaints. The dining room was clean. We were there with my cousins from California and they said that they were in heaven. We could finish all our meals. We all took food home. Highly recommended.

Yelp
When I lived in the New Orleans area, this was one of my favorite go-to places. Sophia and I had takeout boxes on every stop. Believe me, when you enjoy seafood, you know you'll leave full halfway through your plate. Would this visit be another one of those incidents? We were seated after walking inside. Just like before, the inside was beautiful. I should've taken a photo of the bar area, but oh well...LOL!! We immediately got to ordering within minutes. They served complimentary red potatoes with butter. Very good and even tasted of some pepper. For both of us, we selected soft shell crab with french fries. Deeeee-licious!! Properly seasoned and lightly fried. And you probably guess right, we ended up with takeout boxes. The food still tasted the same like earlier. A much needed stop during our Christmas visit. You can never go wrong with homemade seafood. Hopefully we'll be back next year. Till next time :)

Yelp
Deanie's is my go-to for a fried shrimp poboy. I have been quite a few times this summer and their fried shrimp are excellent. On top of the excellent shrimp poboy, I love the potatoes that are given at the beginning of your meal. I will continue to frequent Deanie's in Bucktown!
google avatar

Andrea J.

Yelp
OH. MY. GOODNESS! This place has the best food, hands down! The service is friendly. The prices are right. They know what they are doing in the kitchen at Deanie's!! Everything we ate was absolutely delicious. The crab claws were swimming in the most flavorful lemon, garlic butter sauce I have ever tasted. Everything was good - but they were the star of the meal. This place is definitely on my list for when we return to NOLA.
google avatar

Shannon S.

Yelp
Deanie's Seafood has consistently gotten better over the years. Their menu has improved substantially along with the flavors of their food. This isn't my favorite spot to get boiled seafood as often they seem to overcook their boiled shrimp which is an unfortunate trend many seafood joints seem to have in common these days. Deanie's has always done a great job with their fried seafood options and their fried seafood platters have always been fantastic things. Their broiled and fried fish options are typically nice choices here. Their specials and sides have also really improved over the years so that you have a really nice selection of different items not many other places offer these days. There are also not many places in this area that do as much volume as Deanie's does so they usually get their food out really fast! Everything here is decent to fantastic for the most part and there are certainly more and more places that do far worse food while there are fewer and fewer places that make authentic New Orleans Creole food like they do at Deanie's. Overall this is a place you can bring a big group and they will likely have something that most folks can eat. The biggest area for improvement is their boiled shrimp as so far it has been 100% frustratingly overcooked EVERY time I have ordered it so now I've given up on even trying to order the boiled shrimp again until I hear it is being prepared better. My video review of Deanie's in Bucktown is here: https://youtu.be/Bt4oLYqmmZQ

Yelp
My fiancé and I regularly have lunch dates here! The food is great but the service that Felicia offers is unparalleled. We both agree that this will continue to be our go to when we are wanting great seafood and the best service ever! Thanks Felicia!

Yelp
Felicia was the Best server my family has ever had!! I've been a frequent guest of Deanies for years! I loved her attentiveness and her pleasant demeanor and her humor!! I will definitely ask for her again when I come back to visit. The food is always great! The atmosphere was nice as well. Thanks Felicia for the Excellent Customer Service!!!

Yelp
I ordered the char grilled oysters. They were very tasty. The oysters were very very fresh. This time of year they have the oyster dressing also a huge winner. And I ordered the crab and shrimp, bisque soup. It was very, very tasty very flavorful and lots of fresh seafood. I absolutely love this place.

Yelp
I've lived in New Orleans in Chalmette before the hurricane since 98. I live up in Ponchatoula now and I've never been to DD Seafood. I've always said always heard they have good food but I can tell you one thing there is a waitress in your call Felicia she is the best waitress I've ever had in any restaurant throughout my whole life. The way she took care of us is a brilliant... even the start of the process she took good care of us. She even brought me two drinks right in the beginning, but I've never had a waitress take good care of us before my life her big deserves every penny of it thank you for Lisa from Deanie's in Metairie. I would definitely say go there and get Felicia to serve you. Food was great service was even better. I would say the best like I said I've ever had in my life. Thank you again.

Yelp
Visiting New Orleans from Dallas, TX and decided to stop by here for some good seafood ! Walking in - the person at the front desk was super nice and sat us pretty quick! But the star of this establishment is Miss Felicia ! Her service and personality is 100% what most restaurants are missing nowadays ! We barely had to ask for refills, she gave great recommendations as far as what to order (not pictured: the ice cream pina colada was 10/10) the conversation was great! I'm already planning my next trip to NOLA and i'm making sure I come back and get seated with her again !
google avatar

Yelp
Service was great. Red Beans Mon night special was great. Boiled Crabs were awful - so salty could barely eat them and so overcooked the meat stuck inside. Meat was discolored in several and several of the dozen we ordered were inedible. Also the meat was obviously frozen and at the inflated prices they charged, a huge disappointment. Disgusted! Should close if can't do better. By comparison our Tue night boiled crabs at Kinney Seafood in Slidell were amazing as were the dozen we had this past weekend from Fat Boy seafood on the Maryland Eastern Shore - we eat boiled crabs a lot so we know what's good and what isn't. Deanie's boiled crabs were the worst I've ever been served. Hands down.
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing service tonight! Our waiter (Casey) did a fantastic job! Casey was very attentive. His soft spoken, respectful manner was refreshing. So much so that I decided to get on here to give him a shout out for such a great job! The food was hot and delicious. The portion of food filled the platter.

Kristin P.

Yelp
LOVE LOVE LOVE Deanie's! our food was amazing and the service was even better. if you go, ask for Felicia to serve you. We recommend the fried shrimp, crab cakes, and crab balls. amazing! Will be back soon!

Yelp
We wanted to go somewhere away from the French quarter and this restaurant was perfect. KC was our server and he was a sweetheart. We were given red potatoes with butter as a complementary appetizer. Blue crab was available for purchase in 3 different sizes (Medium,Large,Jumbo). Blue crab pictured are large size since they were out of Jumbo. Crab was made fresh and came out hot. Soft shell crab was ordered a la cart but would have loved go try it on the sandwich option they have available. Restaurant was very cozy and welcoming

Sancha G.

Yelp
We had the best time at Deanie's. The food was good and our server FELICIA was EVERYTHING!!! We went there when we first arrived in NOLA and have since eaten in several restaurants in the French Quarters and we are talking about going back there but ONLY if we have FELICIA! Good food, GREAT SERVICE winning combo. It was 5 of us and we had gumbo and the giant fried seafood platter and had so much leftover!!! You must go and ask for FELICIA is you want an EXPERIENCE!!!

Ongelle C.

Yelp
Started with a spicy Bloody Mary and it is good and spicy. Artichoke hearts with ranch and marinara was really good. Grand seafood platter to feed 3 of us and boy it's a lot of food. It could definitely feed a few more. We had 2 full to go boxes. Seafood was crispy and delicious!

Yava W.

Yelp
I am here from Dallas and visiting for work! This was my first time going to this location and it DID NOT disappoint! The customer service and attentiveness from Ms. Felicia was the icing on the cake! She suggested I get a carrot "casserole " or something like that and IT TASTE just like sweet potatoes! Felicia was kind and knew the menu to a T! I will DEFINITELY come back every time I'm in town! Felicia also Gave me the idea of taking a bag of boil seasoning back with me, this was the best idea! I didn't even know I could purchase! 10 out of 10! for sure!

Yelp
we have been to Deanies many times but this was our first visit after a long time. overall good food but smaller portions and long wait times. we started off with the onion rings and then got the seafood platter and a bowl of gumbo. the onion rings were good with a good batter; the seafood platter came with shrimp catfish and oysters as well as fries - it was good flavor of the breading and the seafood just a bit small; and the gumbo was a good portion and good flavor. overall good food but the wait time was very long! 45mins to sit and the. another 45mina to get the food!

Yelp
Terrible from the food to the service. I've been coming here since I was little & it's getting worse the older I get!

Jennifer J.

Yelp
Fantastic Seafood & Outstanding Service! Deanie's Seafood is a must-visit in New Orleans, and our experience was made even better by our amazing server, Felicia! She was warm, attentive, and gave great recommendations. The seafood was fresh and delicious--especially the barbecue shrimp and fried seafood platter. Felicia's exceptional service made our meal unforgettable. If you visit, ask for her--you won't be disappointed! We'll definitely be back!

Yelp
Mid July 2023 and unfortunately was informed that crawfish was out of season. Went with charbroiled oysters, crawfish bisque, shrimp, and onion rings instead. Oysters: 5/5 must try. Coupled with the bread it was heaven. Crawfish bisque: 4/5, it was really great, again finishing the soup with the bread was heavenly. Shrimp: 3/5. Not salty unlike other places, done well but maybe it sat somewhere too long because it was on the cool side when it arrived. Corn was disappointing as portions of it was still ice cold, so maybe it wasn't steamed long enough. Onion rings: just didn't like it. Too much breading and gave it up after a couple of pieces. Overall would recommend this place for the oyster and bisque alone.
google avatar

Yelp
The food was amazing. The service and atmosphere were just okay. I know they have several locations and next time I'm in New Orleans area I will check out another location.

Yelp
This was one of the first places I tried in New Orleans. Very casual restaurant but good quality seafood. I'm sorry I don't remember everything we ordered. The portion sizes were ample for family style dinner. Prices were good. We didn't have to wait too long for the food to come out. Not sure why the overall rating is low, you don't need a fancy place to eat local cuisine. The fried seafood platter was nice and crispy. Good seasoning. The bbq shrimp sauce pairs wonderfully with the bread. I would definitely come back.
