Great Reuben sandwich - the sauce was elite and the melted cheese really made it. Great customer service, reccomend. Just wish I could have tried the sides which were sadly sold out.

What a pleasant surprise, I was working on a project near by, and thought to try this place, and i am glad that i did. I had the fish sandwich it is differently one of the best if not. THE BEST light is flaky inside crispy golden outside, and it tasted fresh light and amazing. Will be coming back for more.

I had a great experience. They were so patient and kind as I took my time deciding. There are not too many classic deli's around anymore (especially after 4 PM) and I just wanted to a regular deli sandwich--and so I came from across town for this spot. The owner was also very kind and offered me a complimentary drink. I chose their housemade Mango cold-press--quite delicious and not overly sweet! Very happy to see a locally black-owned restaurant bringing quality food at reasonable prices, in a casual carry-out setting. They do have their own spin on things so I would not call this the most classic deli. Still everything I had was good and fresh. It's too bad some of the negative reviews. I hope they are able to achieve more consistency.

I ordered the chicken salad sandwich with chips and it was very tasty, light but filling. I also ordered a homemade lemonade, which was cold and refreshing. I ate outside on one of the covered patio tables along the side of the building. The R&B music was relaxing. I will be back!

This was our 1st time trying Deanwood Deli. We learned while standing in line that this deli is only a year and 1 month old based on today's date, Friday, August 30, 2024. This deli is small so you'll have to take your food to go or you can sit outside at the tables when the weather is nice. The service was fast but on the other hand the man that took our order was a complete dust off for me. What I mean by that is, his attitude was not friendly. His attitude reads like "I'm just doing this because I have to pay bills." He didn't smile, make conversation, make suggestions, or anything. The most he said was, "You ordered the best sandwich." It seemed as though he was flustered when we told him that our daughter doesn't eat certain items, so, 86 the mayo and tomato. Our baby usually eats her sandwiches and burgers plain with nothing on them but the meat and cheese. So for her to take only 2 things off is growth for her. LoL! The lemonade is disgusting!! *GaG!* I was going back to get something else to drink but my husband gave me his Pepsi to drink and he drank the lemonade. All in all, it was good. I've had much better food at other restaurants. It's worth a 1 time try if you're in the area.

So happy to see this place open up! A great spot with some really great deli options. The staff were very friendly. The tuna sandwich was very tasty. The crab cake sandwich was a good size and also was delicious. The potato salad and cole slaw were also on point! Will be back!!

So we tried this place on a Friday night and got there within about 30-40 minutes of it closing. It's cute and quaint and easily accessible. I found the prices also fair. A young man took our order and it was ready in about 15 minutes. There is a lot of cute open airspace to enjoy while you wait. I had the chicken sandwich. There wasn't anything really wrong with it but I just felt like the sweet chili didn't really add anything to it. My sister had the veggie wrap and the fish sandwich and she definitely enjoyed. Other members of my family ordered I believe it was the salmon salad and enjoyed that, so all in all it seems like a great place to eat when you're looking to buy local and enjoy a fresh meal. I also believe it's black-owned which is a plus. I wish I could give it 3.5 stars.

Another dc hidden gem. Though in an obscure place, the atmosphere and staff are nice. It's not your typical take out spot. The outdoor patio is grand and has a lot of seating. You will need your bug spray as the flies and mosquitos are present. The wings were reasonable size and saucy ! The fish sandwich was flaky and tasty. The crab cake was large and definitely no filler added. & lastly the chicken sandwhich was just as saucy as the wings. I love how large the portions were for such reasonable prices.

Had good wings, good sandwiches, nice fries. Gives a nice healthy option to food with the location. Worth stopping by

I've based this spot a few times and remember thinking how nice the outside was. I finally decided to give it a try over the weekend. I was sold when I found out it is affiliated with MLK Deli. It was maybe less than an hour before closing when I went but you would never know. The customer service was great from start to finish. She even brought our food outside to us when it was ready. I think they are in a high visibility area and I was surprised to see there's plenty of parking along the side of the building and seating outdoors. I can see this being a nice, chill spot to enjoy when the weather is warm again. I ordered the Parker's Fried Chicken Sandwich and fries. The sandwich was delicious and the sweet chili mumbo sauce complimented it well. My mother ordered a club sandwich and she said she really enjoyed it. I'm definitely going back. The price point was great, customer service was excellent and the food was delicious.

Yes. If you are questioning whether you should try it, the answer is yes. I have driven past Deanwood deli. On my way to the office multiple times. I always wondered why they would stick a deli in what appeared to be such a random spot. BF randomly found some reviews and decided we were going for dinner. We tried the reuben, the fish sandwich, the lemon pepper wings, and the fries. Everything was so good! I do wish there was more meat on the reuben but it was still delicious The place is clean and the lady at the register was really nice and patient as we worked our way through the menu. On my way home from work today, I almost took a detour so I could get another reuben. I hope they continue to do great business and remain in the area. We will definitely be back.

I'm super excited about this addition to the neighborhood! We went during their soft opening, so the menu was limited. We tried Freda's fish sandwich (crispy, cooked to perfection, light and tasty), 1/4 lb crab cake (A LOT of real crab. no fillers, well seasoned), Glizzyy hotdog with chili and cheese (huge, tasty, real meat in the chili) and habanero wings (crispy, juicy, nice kick). We enjoyed everything! My favorite was the fish sandwich, but I can see myself ordering all of these items again. PROS: Good tasty food with quality ingredients, service was friendly and efficient, food was well packaged, place is aesthetically pleasant. CONS: No seating for dining in, wish they had jalapeños! No diet sodas available. Overall our experience was great and we plan to return to try other items.

I was craving a fish sandwich, went to Yelp to find the best one near me, and Deanwood Deli came up. I called to see if they delivered via DoorDash etc. Nope. But the craving was strong so I hopped in the car, which was the best move bc it's only 12 min from me. The exterior is gorgeous and the parking lot was packed. All good signs. Walked in. As Big Schlim would say, it was niced up in that joint and the customer service was on point (thanks, B!) ! I told B that it was my first time there. He chuckled and said "Thanks for coming in. It won't be your last." Respect for the confidence LOL. I ordered Freda's fish sandwich and fries with extra tartar, lettuce, and tomato. When it was ready, he brought it to the car (nice touch!). Everything was still piping hot when I got it home and, LET ME TELL YOU!!! This food gets all the STAMPS!!!!! The fish is incredible! Big, fresh, perfectly flaky, well-seasoned, and just very lightly battered. The brioche bun is soft with a subtle sweetness and the lettuce and tomato top it off perfectly. Oh, and the fries are delicious! B, you didn't lie! This wasn't my last time. I'll be back SOON! Thank you!!

The salmon cake was buttery & flaky; lowkey the best one I've had in a hot min. Be warned if you sit outside tho- you will get eaten alive by mosquitos

I wanna just say I'm so glad something like this is around in the area that is in, you can't really find good quality lunch foods that has the options that deanwood has to offer. I got the fish sandwhich and first off very beautiful and impressive piece of fish it was I believe cod given its texture and look. The brioche bun and fresh lettuce and tomato also pair nicely with it sort of wish now it had maybe some red onion slices on top as well. The only problem I really feel that could make this sandwich better was a little more seasoning. If this fish was dredged in a mixture of some old bay, Cajun or even lemon pepper seasoning it would elevate this sandwich to a whole new level. It was just to bland and all I tasted was the lettuce and tomato and the bun. I added more tartar sauce and hot sauce and it just didn't do much. Once again the quality and freshness and presentation is only one of the reasons I'm coming back to possibly try out the whole menu if possible lol they sell everything that I crave on a daily basis when it comes to eating a good lunch/dinner so I'm eager to go back and give other things on the menu a try. Also the outside seating and building is really nice I'm sure summer time people flocked to hang there and eat their food right outside. Maybe if they put heaters people won't mind doing it as winter is approaching but either way very nice set up they have going on.

This food is so so good! The wings are some of the best in the area. The fist sandwich is outstanding. I'd love to see more options added.

Such a delight! I've been here twice already, and both visits were fantastic. The menu is extensive, the prices are fair, and the staff is friendly. The building has been completely renovated and has a chic modern feel without being stuffy. If you're anywhere near Deanwood, you owe it to yourself to check out Deanwood Deli.

Awesome spot, stopped by coincidentally and was very impressed. Great service and super welcoming. Tried the Nannie Hellen Burroughs Reuben and it was absolute perfection. The house made pastrami was what made it so memorable, I'm a big Reuben fan so I can be a tough judge. The bread was on point as well. Also had a side of their homemade coleslaw which had a couple of surprises with the peppers and grilled corn but those unique flavors put it over the top. I went back to my car to eat but afterwards had to go back in to compliment how good the food was and had a quick talk with the owner Tyrone. He's a really nice guy and I will definitely be back next time to try the new lobster crab cakes that everyone in the deli was raving about. Need more places like this one.

The food was so good. The wings and the chicken sandwich was on point. The service was pretty good and the staff was pleasant. I would recommend this place if you are in the Deanwood area.

Great Food, reasonably priced. Staff polite and friendly. Parking is a Little tight. Much needed in this area. Big ups to owners. A risk that will pay off. Options they have are better than Wendy's and McDonald's.

I love love love this place. I am praying that the owner will do the dinners on Fridays like he use to do at MLK. So far I had the from-scratch salmon cakes made with real salmon, not salmon in the can. The only thing I regret is not adding pepper jack or provolone. The salmon cakes were like that! Then, I tried the small crabcake. I love how they explain the sizes. Absolutely no filler and I ended up eating without the bun because it was just soooo good. Finally, I ordered the fried chicken sandwich, now when I first saw the sandwich I was rolling my eyes because it appeared to have tooo much sauce on it and was chicken tenders. But when I took a bite and glanced at how much I paid for it no complaints here! The sandwich was good but not my fav. Looking forward to trying to Rueben and Freda Fish. Oh and I always find parking and the outdoor seating/ambiance is super cute, especially at night.
