Reno’s Food Scene Is on a Winning Streak

"Death & Taxes is known for its serious cocktails and extensive whiskey collection. Longtime Reno transplant Ivan Fontana and his wife Sadie opened the chic, low-lit bar in 2013 after noting nothing else like it existed at the time. Nowadays, though, the city “has many hidden gems that are reminiscent of establishments you might find in larger cities that visitors are pleasantly surprised to find in Reno,” he says." - Regan Stephens

Google
DEATH & TAXES offers an extensive selection of whiskies, catering primarily to those who know what they’re looking for. The bartenders are super cool—knowledgeable, approachable, and clearly passionate about their craft—ensuring an engaging experience for the discerning palate. Parker was awesome! Pricing can be a mixed bag. If you’re chasing tater bottles, be prepared for significant markups. However, if you have a clear idea of your preferences, there are some solid deals to be found: the A. Smith Bowman Cask Strength is particularly well-priced, and the younger Springbank offerings are exceptionally reasonable. On the flip side, older vintages and certain high-end selections tend to be expensive. Adding to the experience is the bottle shop in the back. It’s a super cool space with an impressive selection, though it comes with steep prices, making it best suited for collectors or those with very specific tastes. Overall, DEATH & TAXES delivers a great experience—if you know what you’re looking for.

The atmosphere is definitely elegant goth, Victorian — what you would expect from Death and Taxes. The drinks are inspired and we got good advice from the bartender. I side and outside. Service was excellent, drinks were good. It was Tuesday so it was pretty quiet.

Best place in Northern Nevada for cocktails. The "Dead and Lovely" is to DIE for. Great atmosphere with everything painted black. Amazing service with servers consistently checking in and refilling drinks.

Death ☠️ &Taxes is a very Trendy place. The ambiance is one to experience. I Love the Chandelier inside, which makes this place even more Stunning. 🤩. The drinks 🍹 were amazing. 😻 I got a Mock Tail , it was so yummy 😋. They have a balcony as well here. This place alone in Midtown is the reason I want to explore, and find out what other cute shops do they have. The bar code is their drink 🍹 Menu.

Check out this place. Sarah was great in terms of hospitality, service, and drink knowledge. Would highly recommend this place for amazing crafted dinks, high quality service, and good times 😇

Google
Went into the bottle shop. Great selection. Staff is nice. Interesting they try to promote creating access to bottles for the customer base and criticizes secondary market. They do have a great selection and have items at really good pricing and some items. Some are high secondary. Overall a nice place and a fun place to grab a taste, browse, and maybe make a purchase

The service and atmosphere is first class all the way. The bartenders have PHD’s in mixology! This place is superb!

Yelp
Personally, I'm okay with this version of Death and Taxes sticking around forever. Perhaps, this is not what Benjamin Franklin envisioned with his dislike of alcohol, but I already know that I'll be back here every time I visit Reno! This gothic-themed bar features a vintage, Victorian-esque decor and an extensive menu filled with unique, expertly crafted drinks. I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly and beautifully every drink we ordered was concocted by the bartenders, and the combination of flavors for every drink was exquisite and marvelously executed. My favorite cocktails were the Royal Tea, which features mandarin blossom vodka, valencia orange creamsicle cordial, earl grey, coconut, lemon. Highly recommend checking them out if you're in Midtown Reno, and supporting one of the BEST bars I've ever been to!

Yelp
Death and Taxes remains a solid spot with a good vibe and drinks. Their old fashioned is my go to and elevated by the unique touch of a delicious dehydrated pineapple garnish. However, my recent visit came with a small downside worth sharing: the automatic 20% gratuity added to the tab. While I understand the reasoning behind it, especially in an industry that thrives on tips, it felt a bit presumptive--particularly when spending several hundred dollars on rounds of drinks. My group are generous tippers by nature and would have happily left 20% (or more) regardless, but having it pre-determined took away the opportunity and positivity of the gesture. That said, it's a minor critique in the grand scheme of things, and it won't deter me from returning. The quality of the drinks and the overall experience still outweigh this slight annoyance. Looking forward to the next visit!

Yelp
I have a love hate relationship with Death and Taxes. I love the vibe they have, super cool mysterious interior. Like being in an intimate library in some old house. I also loooove their cocktails. Really unique, always delicious. I don't drink very much, but the interesting menu they have always makes me want to try another drink! The things I don't love are that sometimes the lighting is just a bit too low for me. The drink prices are also a little spendy, so not necessarily a place I'd go super often. Finally, I get pretty claustrophobic in here real quick in the summer when it's busy. Obviously it's a good sign for the business if the bar is packed, but oh my goodness there's no breathing room. Coupled with the low lighting I usually don't last too long trying to survive amongst the crowd. This is definitely a unique spot and 100% worth a visit, just a some place I go regularly because of the crowds.

Yelp
The old fashioned with the dried pinneaple was great! The pineapple infuses each sip of the OF with just a waft of candied pineapple. Delicious. Our bartender was self-important and not very friendly, which was a turnoff. We'll try the emerson next time.

Yelp
This has to be one of the coolest bars in Midtown. The all black decor inside, converted from two smaller houses is perfect for cocktails with girlfriends or a date! The drinks are perfectly made. Their Dead and Lovely cocktail is to die for. A MUST

Yelp
This place has been on my list to check out for some time now. I was visiting for an event & was able to stop by. Hearing R&B music as I was walking up, I knew this would be the place for me. Inside, the place is dark and intimate. The service was great, the bartenders are extremely knowledgeable and pointed me in the right direction of my cocktail choice. Their drinks were strong but tasty. I would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Reno

Yelp
Love this bar! I love the style of the bar, old school, classic bar feeling. The bartender was awesome. Found my spot to come for drinks in Reno. The two cocktails I ordered did not disappoint. Order the tropical cocktails. Would order either one again. I need to come back and try the other cocktails they have to offer.

Yelp
I stop by Death & Taxes when I am in a certain mood. One where I don't need a game on the big screen or want to people watch. D&E is dark and a bit mysterious. I like to sit in a corner and enjoy the music and a specialty cocktail. It can get cramped and loud, but the decor somehow mutes the noise so that I can enjoy my time and it makes for a good excuse to cuddle up to your date. Service has been helpful and attentive- just enough to make sure that you are taken care of, but not so much to interrupt your experience. There are a few seats outside, but sitting inside the bar is where the magic happens.

Yelp
Really cool bar with great drinks. We flew in from out of town and found this place across the street from Arario where we got dinner and cocktails. Dark, speakeasy-like on the inside with mostly 90s-00s hip hop and rap playing. Bartenders were nice and had recommendations based on our drink preferences. Both drinks we got were excellent and reasonably priced for this type of bar. Not sure if I'll ever be back in Reno, but if I am, I would 100% come back here.

Yelp
This place is pretty incredible. They have such intricate and detailed cocktails in town. Really unique combinations! They have a set list of drinks available with a wide variety of alcohol, liqueurs, etc. inside is a dark academia theme, which I love. Our waitress did not seem very knowledgeable on alcohol or the menu in general, however, when we asked her questions.

Yelp
I have to update this! It's been two years since my first review and I feel it's just important to catch people up on the current condition. Still Fire !!! Seriously, one of my top 3 cocktail places in the US. I've been to 49 of 50 states, was a GM for a whiskey bar in Colorado, and bartender/server for a decade, as was my wife at Michelin restaurants... so we have a pretty good idea about what we are talking about. $15-20 for a craft cocktail... is extremely reasonable in todays economy. I mean we pay $7-8 for a fancy coffee anymore... and I live in Tahoe, were gas is $2 gallon a more so it's realistic and the norm. That being said... it is a true $15-20 cocktail hands down. I have never ever had a bad cocktail here. You know what chaps my @$. When people make cocktails and don't use jiggers. But you won't have that issue here. Everyone cocktail is perfectly, and I mean perfectly balanced. I judge extra firm on whiskey cocktails especially because perfect measurements are key, and theirs are perfect. Their ingredients fresh, house prepped, and amazing! The clarified milk punch for the bam bam, the garnishes, the simple syrups, the bitters, literally so much is house made here. Also, their selection of whiskey is insanely impressive! Though I'm yet to taste only because their cocktails are that freakin' good! Ps this is not a place to order a jack & Coke, they may laugh you out of the establishment My wife put it perfectly when we were in here on Sunday. "It's like there was a worker who's only job was to make their best cocktail ever, and spend their days perfecting it, and each one of their employees did that." The entire list is just quintessential. The vibe is my vibe. Dark features, dim, with elegant tones and hints. Though welcoming, yet has a down low but upscale vibe. You want to come here and relax, have conversation, and a nice cocktail. This is not a party spot, and it's my favorite to come midday because the crowd at that time fits the vibe of the establishment more than the 10pm Saturday crowd. Which I love. My other favorite spots in the US, Trick Dog SF, William & Graham CO, Radiator Whiskey WA, Here Nor There TX, Hecate MA... just to name a few. D&T is in my top 3. So, if you're in town, give it a go for a nice midday or evening cocktail that will not disappoint. I will absolutely continue to support this establishment for years to come.

Yelp
This was my first time into D&T and I loved the option of the outdoor patio. The location is also perfect if you want to grab a drink before dinner across the way at various dining spots. The reason for the lack of stars is the drink pricing. I would understand if the drinks were phenomenal and outside of the norm, but they were just okay. I personally had a dirty martini which was fine, but people in my group had a few specialty cocktails and they were just fine. Not worth the hype of the price. I did like the vibes inside even thought it was small. This could be a challenge for larger gatherings. We were in at 4pm on a Tuesday so it wasn't super busy. The service was good. Glad I got to check it out!
google avatar

Dawn N.

Yelp
I came for the crafted drinks. It's has a dark sexy setting. The drinks are tasty and definitely unique. The service was friendly. It's a great place for an intimate date or small groups. This may be unpopular opinion but the QR code menu as an ONLY option is not a good idea. My phone was low on battery, so we had to take turns looking at 1 phone to look at the drink menu. My responsibility is to bring my ID and payment. But I'm learning that a charged phone with wifi and a working camera is also required. $15 per drink, and I need to provide my own tools to read your menu. Would have otherwise been 5 stars.

Yelp
I visited this bar with my husband to try out some new spots in the Reno area. When we showed up, it was a little slow. I also think because it was a little too early. First off, it is unassuming on the exterior and just looks like a regular building. We were immediately greeted by the bartender/mixologist and sat at the bar. While looking around inside, it literally is a whole different area. There are a few tables and areas for sitting, then there is the bar. So many options to choose from and so many different types of spirits, from whiskey to bourbon to tequila. You name it. There were so many allocated items that I've only seen in passing, online, or for astronomical prices...here, they were just chilling on the shelf--BTAC, Fortaleza, etc. My husband and I took turns ordering some handmade cocktails or neat pours since the cocktails were also carefully made and mostly specialty options. I got a Light and Crisp cocktail, which exceeded my expectations. It was easily one of the most enjoyable drinks that I had that day and the garnish paired perfecyly. My husband got a small pour of the William Larue Weller...that was one of the pours we have been eyeing for so long. We also got to enjoy some small pours of extremely allocated Fortaleza tequila and these were just as amazing as we had hoped. I have not actually seen these available, so we had to indulge while it was available. The mixologist/bartender was pretty chill and seemed to enjoy hanging out. It was nice to see what he had to offer and suggest. Overall, it was honestly an amazing bar with what you would expect from a Speakeasy joint, back in the day. We didn't opt for food, since I was here to experience the spirits offerings, but will definitely be coming back to try out this spot again. The "Office" is actually the bathroom, and appropriately named. We also were able to check out the bottle shop since I wanted to see what else this place had to offer. So they did have a few products that I had been searching for, but ended up buying a bottle of tequila that I ended up putting in my checked bag to enjoy at a later time. Definitely trendy, pretty chill, and a spot that doesn't seem to be going anywhere. I'd check it out if you want to experience some of the better options for the Reno cocktail scene. If I'm ever in the area I'll be sure to stop in again.

Yelp
I'll have to say this is the best bar I've ever been to! The pictures give you the idea but you have to go here to experience what a well run bar is like. We sat at the bar and watched the barkeep do his thing and this guy was awesome! There's a hidden room behind the bar that's a bottle shop. Some good finds here but a bit pricey. Check it out!

Yelp
Death & Taxes was the first cocktail bar I've been to in Reno, and I was impressed by the huge variety of delicious handcrafted cocktails they had, ranging from fruity to rich and boozey. I prefer a fruitier beverage and I've always wanted to try a clarified milk punch so I went with the Bam Bam Punch, which had flavors of coconut, grapefruit, pineapple, and lime. As it was a clarified punch made with dairy, it had a delicious creamy flavor that complimented the fruity sweetness extremely well. I enjoyed the addition of the fruity pebbles on top as well, it really did have a cereal milk-but make it refreshing vibe. My friend had the ginger zero proof mocktail, and it was literally the best ginger beer I've ever had. I found out shortly after that they make their ginger beer in house, so next time I will HAVE to get a cocktail that includes it, it was divine! Lovely atmosphere, with dimmed lights and black leather couches had me feeling so classy. The bathrooms in the bar are also labeled as "offices", and were decorated super uniquely. I loved how this added to the speakeasy ambiance. I was seated promptly and the worker was quick to answer any questions I had about the menu. A little bit on the pricier side ($15.50 for the punch, $11.50 for the ginger beer), but the cocktails are extremely high quality and thoughtfully made with fresh ingredients so at least it is worth it! I absolutely cannot wait to return next time, the perfect place to catch up with friends!

Yelp
The drinks are always great! Even though I don't like old fashions I hear they make the best one in town, so definitely worth checking out. Love the ambiance indoor and out just wish they had more indoor seating for the winter. We went as a large group when it was cold out and the space inside was limited with little to no seats so we had to stand but one of the bartenders kept telling us to take a seat without anything being available to sit. That's the only thing I dock one star for otherwise always a great time.

Yelp
This place is so cool, the ambiance inside made me feel like I was a vampire or something. The atmosphere is very dark and moody , it's also a great place to lounge and talk to your friends. I ordered the without hope cocktail, I don't think over ever had anything like it , it was amazing and sweet and tangy and flavorful. The service was quick and nice , the gentlemen working seemed very concentrated. I would rate this place an overall 10/10 , go check it out !

Yelp
Beautiful bar and cocktails. Service is exceptional. The skill, expertise, time and quality ingredients is unmatched.

Yelp
Awesome vibes, awesome Mez Cal drinks. Only issue is no food and the pricing is really high. Great for a date night and locally situated, the outside area is lovely.
google avatar

Leslie L.

Yelp
I can't believe I've never been here! Very cool bar in midtown! The outside patio is very light and airy (with excellent tunes) and the inside is very dark, moody and way nicer than I had expected! Service and drinks were both great and I can't wait to come back!
google avatar

Yelp
I'd been looking for an opportunity to try this place. When a couple of our-of-town friends visited, we met them here. The lounge is located in midtown in a converted craftsman house. The interior is super dark but has a classy vibe. We were greeted right away by the tender as we took seats at the lounge benches. Their cocktail menu is accessed by a QR code. Our tender visited us right in time and took our orders. The cocktails were shaken up quickly. Our group sampled several and found them all to be well crafted. It was a great experience and I will never forget back.
google avatar

Kathleen F.

Yelp
Their drinks are by far the most delicious tasting drinks I've EVER had and I mean it. They are so different from your regular bar drinks. Definitely going back
google avatar

Jennifer K.

Yelp
Great craft cocktails. The weight staff is friendly, their patio is dog friendly. We ordered an old fashioned and a lemon drop
google avatar

Toni F.

Yelp
Took an out of town guest to experience the sensational cocktails these gifted bartenders produce. He was quite taken with the overall menu and blown away by our selections. Delicious beverages, beautifully presented on a hot summer day in a cool, dark space. You cannot go wrong with anything on their drinks list.

Yelp
Review is for 9/22/24 and the check indicates our bartender's name was Kait. We were really excited to try something off the beaten path with a dark esthetic, but the whole experience here was terrible. The place was practically empty which I thought would allow a higher level of personal service for customers. But sadly, it just meant waiting for the two female bartenders to end their constant personal chatter. They were both super neglectful and very indifferent to us (seated at the bar) and really couldn't give a shit less about serving customers, us or the other couple sitting in the seating area. We found the drinks pretty exceptional and would have stayed and ordered a few more, but the rudeness was such a turn off that we decided our money would best be spent trying something elsewhere. I would be embarrassed if these people were my employees. We won't be back, and we won't encourage friends, family or coworkers to patronize this place either. People can buy drinks anywhere, but the service is what people remember and keeps them coming back. My impression is that this place just does not care. No thank you.
google avatar

David F.

Yelp
This place is awesome! Great cocktails and mixologists. Came in right when they opened and I was the first one here. Within the hour the place was filling up. Plenty of seating at and around the bar. I sat near one of the fireplaces. It was filled with a bunch of candles. There's kind of a gothic feel inside which was pretty cool. They also have seating outside. The cocktails are unique and different than I have had before. Our mixologist came to our table to take our order and even gave us recommendations. I had the High and Dry. It tasted fresh and the basil gave it that nice extra touch. My girl got the Arlington Tea which she absolutely loved. We ordered the same thing a few different times. I didn't get to try any other drink as we had dinner reservations but I can't wait to go back and try them all!
google avatar

Marie B.

Yelp
Yes, I had to update my review. We enjoyed three 5* cocktails here last night. Wow, blown away at how delicious they were. Couldn't pick a favorite, cos they were all so spectacular! We got the Judas Priest cocktail, Bam Bam Punch, and shrinking violet. Yum! Theming on point here. Service super friendly. Want to go back ASAP, maybe tonight!
google avatar

Raied S.

Yelp
Our favorite cocktail lounge in town. The quality is amazing. Everything made in house. The bartenders are trades of their craft. Low lit, speakeasy vibe, and honestly my wife has to drag me out, cuz I just want to stay for the music. Funk/neo soul. Artists like .paak, D' Angelo, soulquarians... Speaks to my heart!
google avatar

Sofia R.

Yelp
This place was my hosts girls dream. They had really good mock-tails and I loved the dark vibe with dim lighting. I've been a couple times and like to take my out of town friends who visit. The bartenders were really cool and the drinks come out on a decent time considering it's been packed when we go. Highly recommend if you want to check out a new spot

Yelp
This is the dark and moody ambiance of my dreams! The drinks were delicious and different!

Yelp
Drinks are delicious. This place is all Goth all the way and very dimly lit. Felt like I was transported to Halloween lol. Service and ambience is awesome. Everyone liked their drinks: Havana highball Salty dog. Not on menu Judas Priest

Yelp
Really cool spot to grab a unique cocktail. Service is alright- the mood and decor is killer! Some really awesome cocktail selections - in summer you can chill on patio- it's a cool vibe for happy hour.

Yelp
Great speakeasy-ish bar in Midtown. No secret to getting in, just need to know how to get there. Cocktail list is extensive. Converse with the bar staff and they'll steer you in the right direction. You're not going to go wrong with anything. If you find something you need to take home they have a very well stocked liquor cellar with bottles to go- stuff you will find anywhere else in town though you'll pay for it. Cheers!

Yelp
Stopped by for a drink--- love this place... their menu is super interesting and good! We quickly got served our drinks. Love the vibe of this place.. go check it out when you want some fun drinks!
google avatar

Margi O.

Yelp
As a frequent visitor of Death and Taxes, I'm disappointed that the opening of an additional business by the owner has caused them to significantly reduce their offerings. Every single one of my favorite drinks has been removed from the menu, all of which were phenomenal. If I'd had reviewed them 2 years ago, it would have been 5 stars. Instead they reduce the offerings and raise the prices even more. Sad is an understatement. Please bring back the full menu!
google avatar

Jayci S.

Yelp
Hands down best cocktails in town. Worth every penny. Other bars try to compete but do not prevail. Ambiance is speakeasy vibes, super unique and always has the BEST music playing. Again.. VIBES! Always bringing friends and family from out of town to this spot. Absolutely would recommend!

Yelp
Fun novelty place, friendly bartenders and cool ambiance. Seating at the bar, inside seating by faux fireplaces and a good size patio. Service was very quick. They have an amazing selection of tequila and whiskey. The bartenders are very knowledgeable about them as well. Had to scan a QR code for the drink menu, creative and artfuly crafted, a few were just a little too sweet, for my taste. Bartender was helpful and did steer me towards a less sweet one, though.

Yelp
Love this place! Service was great: drinks came out fast and servers were friendly. Cocktails were beautiful and unique; loved the overall vibe of the place inside and out. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
I have known about this place for years, but only just visited this establishment. Let's say this place does not disappoint. The ambience is incredible with a very innocuous dual front door, but it gives heavy vibes of a speakeasy or secret club. The inside is a dark bar with symmetrical design of bench seating, and faux fireplace with lanterns. There are two hidden rooms. One is the prep kitchen, where they batch all of the cocktails, and the second is an incredible bottle shop. What makes this a five star establishment for me is the bottle shop. There is also the fact that you can taste just about anything that is in the shop in a 1.5 ounce pour or 3/4 of an ounce pour. Really?! They batch all of their cocktails, so that they are perfectly balanced, but they will make one for you on the spot as well. Miguel was incredibly friendly, and very informative. I highly recommend him as he is very knowledgeable. This makes this place a must visit for any spirits fan or cocktail fan in the Reno area. Parking should be fine given it in Midtown, but it is in a popular area. Do yourself a favor, and visit this place... They also have an Amaro bar next-door.
google avatar

Jaime R.

Yelp
A must stop! Fantastic drinks, amazing bar tenders who crank out the drinks despite the crowds and the ambiance is unique sophisticated and overall relaxing. For Reno, I was not expecting this and was beyond excited we found it.

Yelp
What else can be said about D&T that others haven't? The dark moody vibe is cozy and intimate. You can never go wrong with having a cocktail(or two) here. My favorite has to be the Sazerac, it is elegant and delicious. You will always be able to find a unique cocktail that has been artfully crafted.

Yelp
This bar is an absolute gem! Tucked away in the heart of midtown, it's a haven for cocktail enthusiasts and anyone looking for a captivating evening. From the moment I stepped inside, I was in awe of the unique atmosphere. The outside patio is a lush, romantic oasis with an abundance of plants and flowers that create a dreamy setting. It's the perfect spot for a cozy and intimate date night. The inside boasts a bold and moody decor, complete with chandeliers and dark accents, which exude a sophisticated charm. Now, let's talk about the cocktails. They are nothing short of a masterpiece! Each drink is carefully crafted, and the presentation is A+--truly Instagram-worthy. The flavors are an exquisite blend of creativity and quality, and every sip is a delightful experience. The service here is as friendly as it gets. The staff goes above and beyond to ensure your visit is memorable and enjoyable. They are attentive and knowledgeable, making recommendations to suit your taste. I highly recommend this bar to anyone looking for a romantic, aesthetically pleasing, and flavor-packed night out. It's the kind of place that leaves a lasting impression and makes you want to return for more. Don't miss out!

Yelp
I love finding unique places to try. I love how the name of this place as well as the old craftsman style building just fits perfect when you walk in. With its all black walls and black/dark decor it's just so fitting yet so inviting and cozy. They have a beautiful bar with an extensive array of top notch libations to choose from. I really recommend trying a few of their signature cocktails from their menu!! We sat at seating by the fireplace and the bartender was very attentive and always made sure we had drinks!

Yelp
Death & Taxes ... just like the songs says ... " I Love this bar" .. Coming from the OC in California, I have had this bar in my to do list of books , and this past weekend was my 2nd visit. The last time I had the opportunity to visit was last year in August while vacationing in Lake Tahoe, and had to do the extra drive here, and No Regrets!! The dark Noir" ambience is cool to the name of this hidden Gem, .... If you're in the area visiting or even Local to the area here in Reno and never stepped in through those black doors, ....you have to come and check this place out. The mixologist who work here , honestly create some very very tasty and unique C R A F T beverages. And watching them do their magic behind the bar is amazing! I myself am a bartender for over 13 years, and I gotta admit I wish and hope to be like these mixologists when I grow up!! Ha ha , Yes , they are amazing bartender's making some amazing drinks. They sometimes tend to change some of their specialty drinks on their menu ( mainly due to what's in season with many of their organic fruits that they grow and use in their craft drinks). Plus, for those of you who may know of liquors, the collection they have here at Death and Taxes is very impressive! Lots of rare and hard to find liquors from scotch , bourbons, Japanese whiskeys , tequilas, mezcal, gin, rums ,brandy etc., Service .... Great service !! As soon as you walk in through the black doors , you are greeted, and take a seat wherever you'd like ... my preference is always at the bar. Our Mixologist Parker, very attentive, very hot weather outside during our visit and immediately served some water while we explore their specialty cocktail menu. Started with their " Oaxacan old fashion ", bold, smoky and good! Also ordered their unique version of "Palomita"which is very refreshing, then tried out their " Scottish Samurai " made with Gin and Sake , and impressive. Then tried out "Judas Priest" rum pineapple coconut and other fresh juices topped with sprinkles of nutmeg.. nice way to end. "Rags to riches ", " without hope" other great drinks to try !! Next time I have the opportunity to visit Reno, definitely will have to make a pit stop for some tasty beverages. Honestly, this is not your average bar, many bars try to make exclusive CRAFT cocktails and very few places I have tried out have a couple unique but overpriced and most are just mediocre drinks, however, here at Death & Taxes, their prices are moderate and very worth it! It's in my top 5 bars!! Sadly , it's very faraway from me, otherwise, I'd be here at least once a week! Thank you Parker and the rest of your fellow mixologist for an amazing experience with the drinks prepared , Until next time !! ... CHEERS!!

Yelp
Don't ever go here. I want it all to myself. The creative drinks. The generous old school pours (not for the timid) The friendly staff. They could use a few trips to the Addams Family movie set for more furniture, but other than that, bravo for creating a drinkers bar. Not a sports bar. Not a singles/pickup bar. Not a dance club. Just for friends who like to talk and drink! I've never gone there with less than four friends. I'll be back. A lot.

Yelp
Small, very dark. Faux elite. The bar counter does not lend itself to interact with new ppl. 2 very large, round tables only therefore only comfortable for ppl who came with or know 5-7 people already. The bar tender asked me to pay for 1 drink before he even served it which makes a person feel like a criminal or at least unwanted. The bar counter seating is very tight. I had to sit with a large pillar dividing the counter within 1/4 inch from me. you can really move your arms comfortably without bumping the persons next to you (or a pillar). The drinks are overpriced.

Yelp
Hands down my favorite bar in Reno for the most innovative cocktails. I love the dark vibe and always bring my out of town guests here 1st!

Yelp
Great consistent cocktails and service. A little loud and dark but that's the vibe you want sometimes. Cozy, comfy, good selection of drinks.
