One of SF’s Most Popular Falafel Shops Opens Second Location - Eater SF

"Valencia Street Indian restaurant Deccan Spice says its anticipated opening in the Castro’s former AG Ferrari food space has been delayed by permitting issues — a second exit and sprinkler system were required, for instance, which the restaurant did not anticipate. Deccan spice should finally open in the next few weeks, owners say, putting an end to another vacant storefront in the Castro." - Caleb Pershan

We went in the evening after dancing. Very nice, very cozy, the freshest hot food, the dessert was especially delicious - not cloying like in the supermarket (where they use sugar substitutes), real, cold. Who wants silence and the smell of Indian spices, without pathos and excessive high prices and markups - you are here. paid only $38 Immediately remembered the Goa area ...

Google
This Hyderabad biryani was over $20 and is bland in taste. The egg and onions were worse than an Safeway deli. The southern indians from Hyderabad agreed with my judgement

Google
3rd time visiting. One of the most authentic Indian restaurants in the US. Very Tasty Food, generous portions. Sabzi, Naan, Roti, Starters , Biryani all are good. But food was very spicy. Usually indian restaurants in US do not serve this spicy. But if you are okay with spice then great place. Mild spicy is Indian Mild not American Mild

I ordered takeout from Deccan House on a Tuesday evening and was very pleased! The food was fresh and ready at the appointed time. The keema dosa was nice and spicy and the portion was big enough to enjoy again for lunch the next day. The samosas were crisp and tasty, accompanied by fresh chutneys. I’d gladly return to try more of their dishes. The interior is simple with cozy booths for dining in. Service was very friendly.

Google
Great food! Very fresh. We tried their chicken chilly, dum biriyani, goat roganjosh, butter naan, matar paneer, plain dosa and butter milk. Absolutely loved their chicken dum biriyani! My 5 yr old had biriyani for the first time ever and yelled “yummy”. That’s reason enough for me to go back there! The service was extremely good. Our server was very attentive, and went over and beyond to help even before the need to call (unlike a lot of other places where we wait to call someone if we need something). A+ to the server.

Google
Doordashed from here, was so looking forward to good indian food after their name. Disappointed, in every dish. Their ulavucharu biriyani was extremely spicy though I ordered mild spicy. Their gobi was not crispy and almost felt like steamed cauliflower. Even the salam for the biriyani was like a garam masala water. Not an authentic place for indian food.

Google
The best garlic naan I've ever had, hands down. I can't believe I've never been here until recently. The food is delicious and the prices are very fair. Not to mention it's open late! The service was also very good and we appreciated the way young lady handled requests as well as her input. GO HERE.

Yelp
3.5 STARS Several weeks ago, I made the mistake of NOT combing through the reviews of a South Indian restaurant in Sunnyvale. I ordered spicy and it legit felt like I was eating lava. This is coming from someone who usually requests spicy and extra spicy, and it's not spicy enough. What's that saying, "IF it hurts going in..."? So, yea...I'm surprised I could walk straight the next day. This time, I wasn't going to make the same mistake and made sure I combed through the reviews for Deccan House. Some of the reviews state that "mild" = "very spicy", "so spicy", etc. so I went with mild. Mild was plenty spicy for me so thank you, yelpers! Deccan House is open for takeout, delivery, and indoor dining. I ordered delivery so not sure if they still have outdoor dining. M E N U South Indian cuisine with a touch of Indo-Chinese: Soups, apps, tandoor, idli/vada (savory snacks), dosas, uttapam (thick dosa w/ toppings), curries, dum biryani, breads, and desserts. No upcharge for 3rd party delivery apps BUT steep pricing...prices are 20-35%+ higher than competitors in the area. Ex: Curries start at $16.95 and it costs extra to add protein...$5 to add tofu?! Spice levels: Normal (not sure what that means), mild, and spicy. I ordered lunch delivery via Uber Eats. Was quoted 20-40 minutes and it was delivered in 40 minutes. Food was hot and securely packed. F O O D * Chettinadu: Spicy curry w/ salan, onion, special tamilnadu spices, coconut oil ($16.95): https://tinyurl.com/mrym4ja7 *** Add chicken (+$2) *** Requested mild The chettinadu was robustly spiced and spicy with a few pieces of tender white and dark chicken meat. The gravy ran on the salty side, and "mild" packed enough heat to make my nose run. I tempered the leftover gravy with coconut milk to make coconut noodle soup. * Hyderabadi Dum Biryani: Indian basmati rice, aromatic spices, Mughlai-style ($15.95) *** Add goat ($4) *** Requested mild The biryani was fluffy, fragrant, and medium spicy with a handful of tender, bone-in goat pieces. Some of the basmati wasn't separated and a bit clumpy. The accompanying shorba (coconut gravy) and raita (yogurt sauce) added a layer of cooling spice. It's my understanding that mughlai-style biryani is supposed to have veggies but this one didn't. Overall, Deccan House serves pretty good South Indian fare, however, it's overpriced. I will pay for higher quality food but I didn't feel the taste, nor the quality was any different than local competitors charging a fraction of the cost. 3.5 stars rounded up for a small local business.

Yelp
I came here solo for a late-night dinner, one of the few places that were open late and was sat very quickly; about 3-4 tables were occupied. The server (owner, maybe?) was very attentive and asked him what his favorite dish was: the Andra stew. I'm a five on the spicy scale, but I knew this place was going to be hot, so I asked him if he thought this dish was spicy, and he was an honest man and said it was the best one, so I had to get mild and suck it up. I got it with garlic naan, but I'd get it with regular naan next time since the stew was flavorful and hit the spot, and the man is honest, it was spicy! Regardless, I live to write about it and plan to go there another late night in the mission...

Yelp
It was my first time here . It was a bit hard to find a parking spot close to the restaurant. I went on Friday around 2:30 pm . When I walked in to the restaurant, it seemed like they only offer takeout food . There was no one there except a guy sitting in a corner having his food . There were no one else. Not even someone to welcome you . It had a very weird vibe. Then that guy asked me if I want food ? I said yes . He said to go ? I said can I sit here ? He said yes . Then 3 guys came out of behind and one of them handed me the menu. I ordered chicken heidarabadi koorma. He asked if I want bread ? I said no . Rice is enough . When they brought the food , the portion was so so small , rice was just enough for a kid and the chicken koorma was SO spicy. Oh my goodness. I couldn't eat it. I asked the guy is it mild ? He said yes . I said well I can not eat it . Is there a way you can change it ? He said I am not sure , let me check . He took it and brought another bowl with hi was basically same . I think they added a bit of water in it and hit it up in the microwave. Since the rice was just few spoons , I asked for plain nan . My rice was already cold when they brought the chicken koorma. And still it was SOSO fccchbhfd spicy . Maybe it's just a good spot for Indians that used to these type of food that is really spicy. When I am ordering an entry why I need to order a bread ? Just because you bring a small portion of rice !?? It cost me $30 for a very bad food. When I paid I came out and asked the guy who followed me that why your price is so high for a low quality and portion ? The rice was just good for a kid . He said oh well you see the rice is just complimentary! I said what ? I have been to many other Indian restaurants. For $20 food your rice is complimentary? Any other places in SF they provide way better food , bigger portions and cheaper. You basically bring a small portion of rice so that the customer order more rice or bread . He started explaining himself and his resturant and I said I'm off here . That's fine . I will never go back here again . And I am advising any one who is deciding to go here , think 10 times before going here . The 4.5* reviews that they have is fake .

Yelp
I ordered lamb vindaloo- Mild spicy and receive super hot with not one piece of potatoes with very bad lamb pieces. Looks like this guys have no idea how to cook Indian food! Plus average of this dish is $12-14 they charge over $20

Yelp
A small spot to enjoy some Indian dining. We were able to snag an outside table and sampled the dosa plate. Generous in portion for one person, but didn't quite hit the authentic flavors I was craving. Overall, a good option if you are new to Indian food but not the place I would send my Indian friends.

Yelp
The service here sucks dude. I placed an order through Uber eats and wanted to add a item. I called them within 45 seconds of placing the order on Uber eats and they said "sorry we can't change or cancel anything, you have to do that through Uber eats." Totally fair, so I told them that I had tried to modify through Uber eats and the instructions were to contact the vendor directly. Same answer "sorry we can't change or cancel anything." So I was like "okay, that's not helpful." And they asked "okay should we cancel?" Like, what? They told me they can't do anything, and then tell me that they're going to cancel? I know they hadn't even started making the food because they took some time to locate the order. I ended up cancelling and paying the fee, but this establishment sucks, wouldn't recommend.

Tushi P.

Yelp
Biryani was good but that's about it. Ordered paneer cube dosa, and cubes were nowhere to be seen. False advertising. I have attached the photo of what paneer cube dosa actually looks like. Oh, and the food is spicy/hot beyond what I have ever had. Asking for mild doesn't do anything, I don't believe they make a curry with different levels of spiciness. Won't be ordering from them again!

Yelp
This is the best Indian food in SF. Not only do they nail the classics but they also offer the opportunity to expand your palate and try regional favorites.

Yelp
The place was amazing! Portions and flavor was outstanding! Just the right amount with an outsized flavor. 10/10 recommended! Staff on hand were pleasant and welcoming further adding to the wonderful food. Definitely would return !

Yelp
Go to place for biryani and butter chicken. Mutton is seasoned very well. The biryani taste so authentic

Yelp
This place is hands down one of our best togo places to grab Biryani in San Francisco. Highly recommend Deccan Special Biryani. The butter chicken is very delicious and authentic tasting as well! They have a great indoor and outdoor vibe for dine-in with okay service!

Yelp
Deccan house has THE BEST chicken tikka masala I've ever had. It's like mouthwateringly delicious. If I was on death row and had to choose my last meal it'd definitely be Deccan House's chicken tikka masala

Yelp
The series's fast. It was clean and the good was good. I went with my family and friends. We had a great time.

Yelp
This place is my go to. I compare all Indian food I eat to Deccan House. So far nothing compares.
google avatar

Krishna ..

Yelp
Very expensive for the portions! But it is tasty. Just not worth the value for the money! since there are other Indian restaurants in the same street. 1. Idli Vada combo is almost 10$ for tiny idli and Vada. 2. Same applies for Gobi manchurian, tandoori chicken and dosa! 3. I thought gongura curry was tasty (18$)
google avatar

Anjali K.

Yelp
Chicken 65 and chicken 555 are both really good! So is the butter masala paneer and tikka masala paneer. Nice and quiet inside. Decent service. Would highly recommend as one of the best Indian restaurants in the city.

Beth C.

Yelp
Food was just ok, chai was a short 1/2 of a tea cup and nothing but sweet n low for sweetener(!!??), I asked for a second cup and was told I had to pay for another. Service was rude and basically non existent. If you don't like the food industry then find another line of work. Skip it this place and go to Aslam Rasoi, the very best.

Bill W.

Yelp
The servers are welcoming and kind, and the food is incredible. One of our go-to's in the neighborhood for Indian food. Order mild spicy if you don't like things hot - their version of medium is probably hotter than most, but that's just a bit of guidance, so don't let that put you off - their food is really remarkable.
google avatar

Yelp
The lone star is for the food. It is OK - not the best, but a little better than the other eight or so Indian spots in the 5 block vicinity. Not gonna lie. (I also haven't gotten food poisoning from this food like a dozen other reviewers...but I can attest that the "special chicken biryani" is trash - if you are gonna order from these fools, order veg, their meat game is pretty pathetic.) But I would honestly rather give my money to people who actually give a crap about their customers, and go out of their way to remedy unfortunate situations to everyone's satisfaction even if technically they are not obligated to do so. I am not gonna go into the details about the incident in question but the end result is that I am angry and hungry and out $20 with only some soggy naan and a half a carton of soggy white rice to show for it. It's almost midnight, and it's pouring rain. I am pissed. (Even their paneer naan barely has any paneer in it. I seem to recall that they had slabs of the stuff lining the inside before - now there are tiny flecks of it sparsely scattered throughout. Either that, or it's plain naan and they gave me the wrong order. But they NEVER EVER screw up their orders, apparently. Either way, if I cannot tell whether the naan is plain or paneer = fail. Normally, I would just shrug and make no issue of it...but as this is basically the only thing I had to eat all day - and will have to eat all night - it's beyond infuriating.) Again, the place wasn't obligated to do anything. And I usually hate whiners who can't just deal with gruffness and anything that flaunts its disregard for conventional "customer is always right" wisdom. But like...in today's times, one of our greatest sins (besides greed) is selfishness and indifference. I was not making an unreasonable request. In fact, I made no request at all, letting the person in charge decide the course of action, unprompted. Well, they played it the way they played it: they left me hungry and at a loss, with only the bitter aftertaste of their callous indifference. Guess who I am going to be angry at. Especially since there was enough ambiguity in the details of the incident to warrant a pause and a "gee that does sound strange" chin-scratch on the other end of the line. Oh well. I've been a returning customer for about a year now - but if their attitude towards someone's misfortune is to shrug, dig their heels in, and exercise their capitalism-given right to do nothing - well, then they lose a returning customer and gain a lousy review on multiple platforms. Life is unfair....but I guess I have my right to be a self-entitled jerk too.

Yelp
ordered chicken soup went home some creamy shit they gave me nothing like the pic on yelp for chicken soup

Yelp
I came here with friends on Sunday around 12:30. The beautiful chandelier was turned off, no one was eating inside and no staff to be seen for a while inside the restaurant. I wasn't sure if they were open. The service was not the greatest...no one checked on us during the meal, took a while to get a straw (I wanted one since the glass had a lipstick stain) and also get the check. The 2 stars are for the food, which was tasty, but really not worth $19 for the small Saagwa Paneer with rice. Probably won't be back.
google avatar

Tushara S.

Yelp
The Dum biryani is good. The special Deccan Biriyani is just a masala rice with onions and tomatoes topped with the chicken starter I ordered. The chicken starters are not very indianish they are just tossed in the sauce. The dosa was okish. The curries and naan is good.
google avatar

Aniket D.

Yelp
We only tried one dish, the paneer manchurian (or was it chili paneer?) And our experience was quite good both with service and the food taste. Plus points for being open late. We had ordered well in advance (for takeout), but it wasn't ready when we reached there. That's the only minor grievance in an otherwise wonderful experience.

L M.

Yelp
Good food and service was fast, always a hit. The mango drinks was really good and the food we ordered I can't remember how it was called but it was good

Yelp
Second time eating at this place except this time it was takeout due to COVID-19. Got the Hyderabadi Dum Biryani with raita on the side. Biryani was yummy but I would have liked a little more raita. I'm the kind of person who needs it in every bite. Also got a cheese utthapam, which literally tasted like an utthapam cheese quesadilla. I would have liked it if there was lesser cheese because then the cheese was overpowering the taste of the utthapam (rice/lentils), but overall yummy; I still finished it. Also topped the meal off with some gulab jamun, which were soooooo good! I personally like mines warmed up so that they're lightly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. This place made them very well. I wish I had ordered two orders of it! Definitely would order from them again.

Yelp
3.5 stars Deccan House is a Mission institution, turning out simple yet delectable Indian eats! The service here was surprisingly friendly, and my pick was the Masala Dosa, a dish that came with two rice/lentil batter crepes, served with a small ramekin of masala spiced potatoes, sambar (lentil soup), a tomato chutney, and a coconut chutney for dipping. This dosa was much different than others I've had in restaurants--instead of being spread out into a thin oval the length of your arm and then rolled up into a dramatic cylinder, these dosas were small, round, and simply folded over. The potatoes, sambar, and chutneys made for nice accompaniments, though the flavors felt a little toned down and not particularly distinctive. Next, I also tried the Deccan Special Tandoor Platter, which came with some of each of their tandoor-cooked meats on a sizzling metal plate with onions and peppers. The lamb chops were on the salty side (and the spice coating rather burnt), though the tandoori chicken leg and chicken tikka were tender and juicy. My favorite part, though, had to be the lamb seekh kebab, made of spiced ground lamb, which was flavorful and spicy! All of the meats went nicely with the refreshing lamb/mint chutney on the side, which had perfectly balanced spicy, sweet, and sour flavors!

Anum T.

Yelp
Go here if you want high prices for ridiculously small portion. We ordered Hyderabad biryani, they charge extra $2 for meat. We paid for chicken. In 1 biryani order there was only 2 pieces of chicken. When we brought this up to staffs attention, response was "this is standard". Our total with taxes/tip was $25 for measly small portion of biryani with 2 pieces of chicken. Ridiculous service, portions, prices. Do not eat here.

Alison F.

Yelp
Nice, quiet space that's open late for special days or late nights. I always have the mango lassie and dessert.

Yelp
delicious indian food! service was great and the entrees we got all came with rice. especially loved the chana masala. though serving size was a little small. overall, great place to check out on valencia.

Sharan C.

Yelp
Had high expectations from this place, unfortunately the food left me a little disappointed and also the price point was a bit on the higher side
google avatar

Yelp
I've been to various South Asian restaurants near this area, but Deccan House definitely has a special style to it. The waiters were super accommodating of song requests, seating arrangements, and meal suggestions. I tried the Tikka Masala and Ghee Dosa which were both very well done. The tikka masala was rich and buttery, and the ghee dosa had the perfect amount of crispness. The one complaint I'd have is that the sambar here lacked the same depth I've experienced at neighboring restaurants. This could be due to the sambar not having a lentil base. Overall, would highly recommend you try out this restaurant!

Yelp
My friends and I visited this restaurant on a Monday evening, for outdoor dining. We were the only customers at the time. We gave our appetizer orders, and waited for the server to come back to take the remaining orders. However, the evening turned out to be extremely frustrating because of really slow and porr service. After the appetizers were served, the waiter said he would return to take our entree orders and bring us a missing plate. He didn't show up for another 10 minutes! When he brings us the plate, we ask for some water, which he doesn't bring out for another long time. He still hasn't taken our entrée orders, and we had already been here for over an hour. When we do get a chance to put in an order for our entrées, we ask how long it will take, and if they are busy. We were told it would be fast, so we decided to go ahead. Wouldn't you know, we were all still waiting for our food, 45 minutes later. This was probably the worst outdoor dining experience I have had during covid. I understand that restaurants are doing the best they can, but they could have been more upfront about how long it would take, and the staff could definitely use some training. Our waiter was extremely unorganized and forgetful. It should not take 30 minutes to get water and plates. The food was thankfully not too shabby. The gobi manchurian could have been crispier, and could use some more shezuan flavors. The chicken 65 was slightly dry. The idli was slightly denser than I'm used to. My chicken lolly lolly curry was pretty flavorful, gratefully after waiting for so long

Yelp
I was cruising through the area, just looking for a nice place to eat lunch when I happened upon this place. Out front there were a couple of people eating in a parklet and the smells of their food sold me. I went inside to find another couple eating at one of the booths, and they were raving about the food. So far so good. The place is very small, with only a few booths inside, but they were doing a pretty good takeout business. So I sat down, checked out the menu and settled on Hyderabadi korma, plain basmati rice and a masala dosa. All were very good, and since I like my food spicy, they did and it was almost too much (but then I asked for it), but all I can say is that it was very flavorful and I definitely will be back.

Miranda M.

Yelp
Ordered delivery and it's nearly inedible. Raita, Chutney, and Tikka Masala are so watered down, they barely have a taste. They're like soup. The naan is definitely not fresh, as it's very stiff and dry. Extremely disappointed.
google avatar

Colleen S.

Yelp
I've only ordered a couple of things here but they are spectacular. The butter chicken and the garlic naan. It's one of my new go-to spots for a quick dinner.
google avatar

Tim P.

Yelp
Have only had delivery through GrubHub. Food is excellent. I'm not super familiar with South Indian food but the street food snacks like vada with coconut chutney are what piqued my curiosity. Yum. I may have to make my way through the various vada iterations. Uttapam and other snacks look interesting too. I'm curious to see how well dosa fare on delivery The cashew nut curry is interesting. Just the nuts in the sauce -- and enough for two meals I find. Very tasty. I ordered mild and it came mild. I've ordered the same things twice and the food was consistent although they substituted samosa for the vada the first time because they were out. I was fine with that. They are just two blocks from my place so it's very convenient and quick.

Thilak M.

Yelp
My wife and i had food poisoning. We ordered through door dash last night. We have ordered their food over past years and have liked their food. Serving unsafe food for consumption is not acceptable. Our order was Chicken 65, special boneless Biriyani, garlic naan

Yelp
Take out on April Fool's with the cousin and his girlfriend.. ALL I AM LEFT WITH is a great impression of the food. We ordered two very different curries, and some lamb. Everything was great.

Yelp
Oh my...just went to visit the local computer store in SF for the morning and had a craving for Indian food. Given all my favorite buffets are closed thanks to our tyrannical governor, I went to this place for the first time. It looks promising on the outside, with three different styles of biryani, a variety of meats and they even asked if I wanted my chicken tikka masala spicy. The problem initially was that not only was neither the hyderabadi lamb biryani spiceless, but the chicken tikka masala might as well have been some months-frozen butter chicken. The onions on the biryani looked like they just took them out of a bag precut that morning with zero cooking of them at all. Worse yet, when I was finished with this tasteless, expensive (over $35 for lamb biryani and chicken tikka masala) garbage, I took a nap. Waking up around 7PM 12/12, about 2 hours later I was overtaken with nausea. Shortly after that came the diarrhea. Took a trip across the street for some Pepto Bismol, came home, ran to the bathroom and had to go again. Less than 30 seconds later came the vomiting, clearing my entire digestive system and collapsing my right side ab muscles. For a moment I contemplated calling 911. Thankfully, after a few more minutes of both the above expulsions, the nausea faded. I drank a bottle of Coca Cola and ate some soup, hopefully will feel OK in the morning. PLEASE DO NOT GO HERE! They are leaving food out to spoil or freezing it too long and not cooking it through when heating it.

Yelp
Delicious food :) Place is too small, so I suggest to book a table. Food's quality is good and also the prices.

Umang D.

Yelp
I had a disappointing experience. I expected more after seeing the high reviews on yelp. I ordered the following * Schezwan Gobi - Taste was decent but was not seasoned well. I think correct amount of salt would have given it a good taste. Also I had asked that it be made medium spicy but it was pretty mild * Vegetarian Dum Biryani - Worst of all the dishes I ate. It only had 1 piece of carrot and a few small pieces of cauliflower and broccoli and some peas. So 95% of the dish was spiced rice and really bad at that . How do you call this a biryani? Cant believe I paid $11 for this. * Paneer Loly Loly - The gravy was on the sweeter side so did not particularly enjoy it. It only had 7 pieces of paneer and gravy. I don't think the prices are justified for the quality of the food.

Madison G.

Yelp
Solid, delicious Indian food. Really enjoyed their tikka masala paneer and garlic nan.

Barnali D.

Yelp
This was my 4th time eating Deccan Spice, and while my first 3 experiences were amazing (as evidenced by my previous 5 star review), this recent experience was disappointing. The food we ordered was simply not very good: 1) Chili chicken roll - extremely spicy, and overfilled with onions and mayo. This was nothing like other Indian rolls I've had, and was frankly kind of gross. 2) Gobi Manchurian roll - while better than the chicken roll, this was still way too spicy and had way too much onion. 3) Deccan Special Biriyani - Medium Spice Level - this was too spicy for us (and much spicier than the previous "spicy" biriyanis we've gotten from here)! The battered, fried chicken in the dish was unexpected and "fusion-y" - definitely not normal for biriyani. We ordered delivery via Yelp, and the food arrived pretty quickly (within 40 minutes), which we appreciated. Overall, it is sad to see Deccan Spice let us down after our multiple positive experiences there. We'll have to think hard before ordering from them again.

Madhu J.

Yelp
The food was great, love their Hyderabad dum biriyani, we ordered 3 biriyani last Saturday night and the portions were like appetizers. So small. Their biriyani portions used to be standard sized. Not anymore.
google avatar

Avinash S.

Yelp
Good food and equally good service. Picked up delivery so can't comment about the dining in. Ordered a goat curry and naan which were pretty delicious. They messed up my naan order but when I called back they were more than happy to comp me on my next order. Will definitely order again

Yelp
Now every once in a while, you run into a terrific Indian restaurant right out of the gate. I have to admit I got nervous when I saw the crowded and compact space, and I was placed smack dab in the middle where a woman had a huge backpack to maneuver around and the diner next to me inadvertently flung a dosa in my direction as she was packing her to-go container. Truth be told, I only came here because my original choice, Laksa on Guerrero, was closed on Tuesday. Who closes on Tuesday? Since my mind was on five-spice chicken, I didn't have a clue what to order at a place that specializes in Hyderabadi dishes. I first ordered the $8 Ponganaalu because it frankly said "steamed donuts" but they were savory ones with onion. Unfortunately they had already run out of those, so I asked the smiling female server what she suggested, and she immediately told me to try the $13 Sandwich Dosa. Disregarding the $5 mark-up for a second, I was thrown by the "sandwich" part of the description. I was wondering if it came on pumperknickle with a dab of mayo, so I said why not. Soon out came a huge tray with what looked to be an Indian-style quesadilla though they referred to it as a "thin creep". Whatever it was was surprisingly delicious. It was quartered with each stuffed with cabbage, potato, tomato, cheese and onion, like, uh...a sandwich. It came with three chutneys, a yogurt dipping sauce, and little bowl of daal (photo: http://bit.ly/2bm62tF). I was already geting stuffed when my entree came out, the $15 Hyderabadi Goat Korma, so tasty tender with the goat still attached to some of the bones. all of it bathing in a creamy cashew, almond and coconut sauce that definitely required a $4 side of white rice to sop most of it up (photo: http://bit.ly/2bwOMi5). Two dishes, two winners. I'd like to come back with Jamie W. and try some more. The one hiccup was the server asking me to Yelp the place then and there to get a 10% discount. Honey, nobody rushes me through one of my reviews. FOOD - 4 stars...south Indian dishes done right...need to try some more sometime AMBIANCE - 3 stars...honestly too cramped for my ample derriere SERVICE - 3.5 stars...cheery if a bit unctuous TOTAL - 4 stars...unique subcontinental dishes well worth trying

Yelp
Amazing food, horrible service! Another Indian place that disappoints. I hope they fix their service and staff to match their food and prices.

Yelp
Solid Indian place with home cooked Indian flavors and spice level customized to your liking. I came here during lunch time and it's very laid back. The food is served home comfort style on one platter. The Roti tasted earthy. Unlike other Indian places with too much oil that results in a stomachache, the meal was light and flavorful. The chicken curry was right on point with tender meat. The lentil soup had a bit of kick. And one can customize level of spicy-ness by speaking to the waiter.

Yelp
I wish I knew why so many people gave this place such great ratings because I had high hopes. First of all the lunch special chicken platter says choice of 2 chicken dishes but 1) you have no choice and it comes with whatever they want to give you and 2) it only comes with 1 chicken curry dish. But it comes with rice and roti and a small biryani and a dal dish. Along with some breakfast dough and dessert thing. So it's a nice spread. The chicken curry they served was sweet and oily. He said it would be a little spicy. Nope. Almost no flavor other than sweet and oily. At least the chicken was tender. I think it was the first chicken curry on the menu. The biriyani tasted like the clumped some biriyani spice in a bowl of white rice. The flavors were not deep and flavorful. The lentils tasted burned. The fish tikka was tilapia and it was dry. Rice was hard. Mango lassi was different. Very yogurt-y. Not bad not like other places (I don't like it too sweet anyway) but it was kind of warm. The water they serve is warm also. Small and claustrophobic spot. 4 booths and maybe 8-10 two tops. And it's hot inside. No ventilation. I want to try it again because of the reviews and I would try the chicken tikka masala. But with all the other great spots in town it's gonna be tough to motivate to try it again.

Yelp
Recently ordered through one of the delivery services. It was late. But many are. However, even though we ordered "mild" the food was inedibly, painfully, spicy hot. Even the soup. We couldn't eat it. I won't order from them again. The spring rolls were fine. My partner tells me she's eaten there before and it was fine so it's likely they just bungled the "mild" request. But I can't afford to order $100 of food that we can't eat.
