Had a great experience recently with my brother and the wives. Great ambiance and nice to be on the water, although a little bit loud. Food was very solid and for what they are going for they nailed it.
My wife and I shared a Caesar salad with grilled shrimp that came a with a good balance of dressing, shrimps, lettuce, and croutons. We got the smash burger with fries, which was very tasty and fries were nicely crispy. For apps we shared the general's cauliflower, an interesting tangy and Asian take on the side. We also shared passion fruit mojito, which was a bit sweet and like most of the drinks pricey (although I suppose $15 cocktails are the norm in a place like downtown Delray). Overall good food but nothing special, so why 5 stars?
Objectively it's not a five star restaurant, but it does achieve what it is trying to achieve perfectly (gastro pub with expected fare), so in that sense it's five stars. It's kind of like if you go see a dumb comedy, knowing it's a dumb comedy, and it achieves the goal of being a dumb comedy with perfection, maybe that's five stars because you weren't looking for a drama or a documentary (the Ebert standard).
