Deep Indian Kitchen - Review - Columbus Circle - New York - The Infatuation

"Deep makes some of the best frozen Indian food out there, and we advise you to get to your nearest South Asian grocery store and pick up a box of their chicken korma ASAP. Luckily for us in New York City, Deep also has three restaurants here where you can taste the family’s food made fresh in house. At their three counter-service locations, you can build your own biryani, kati roll, dosa, or salad, with you choice of protein like chicken tikka or mushrooms. If you go for a dosa, you won't be getting the big crispy crepe most places serve—it's more like a taco in an uttapam-like shell. But it's a fun vehicle for unconventional dosa fillings like lamb kofta and even pulled pork. We usually go for the Live Fire Feast (their version of the thali), so we can get rice and dal on the side. Choose your spice level, then decide between a bottled mango lassi or a ginger cane drink." - Neha Talreja

The first time I went for dinner was a few months after they opened. The paneer sag was amazing. So was the chai!!! It was a cheaper and closer option than the other I restaurant I go to. Yes, they are known for frozen meals but I do not believe I was served one. The flavor was rich and perfect temperature. The packaging is nice and the wait time wasn’t bad. The space is incredible and you can host events there. I appreciate ordering on the kiosk because it gives me time to decide and time for staff to focus on food prep. They are quiet but when I have spoken to them, they were really friendly and accommodating. I got upset though because one couple screamed at them for about 10 minutes. It ruined the vibe for a bit. They’re just trying to do their job. I went a few days ago. I went down a spice level but the food was still great. I got chicken sag and onion kofta (for the first time). The onion fritters were good but not my cup of tea. The tamarind sauce which I thought I wouldn’t like was yummy! I also tasted samosas (yum!) and the mango lassi (also yum!). Please try their candy- family loved it. The staff was friendly and the place was clean. It was quiet and a perfect place for my friend and I to catch up. I like it so much I may host an event here.

Google
The restaurant was very clean and kiosks ready to take faster orders. The presentation on the plate was nice. However, the taste was not good at all. It didn’t have a taste at all. It tasted like spices but nothing flavorful or savory. Very disappointing especially getting charged extra for lamb and combo. No thank you. Please do better with seasoning the food along with the traditional spices. Signed me—Tania Simone

Google
Great counter service Indian food! Service was very slow - luckily we ordered ahead online, I recommend doing that so your food doesn't take too long. They're understaffed but staff was still helpful. The vegan chana masala and the lamb curry were fantastic with really great seasoning. Level 1 was spicier than we expected but still tolerable and delicious.

The first time was Thursday around 1pm. It wasn't even busy. We didn't know we had to order our food on the Machine and the Lady wasn't as nice when she Stated " you placed your order on the machine" which is located on the other side of the restaurant 🙄 that's where professionalism falls in. Knowing how to direct the customer and speak to them. I was impressed to see the restaurant wasn't run by Indian people. The place is clean, but you barely see any workers, especially to clean up after the customer. Not even a manager came out to see how everything was coming along. The food came out Hot and They do not bring the food to your table. You have to pick it up at the front where the Lady refused to take our order. We wasn't even offer any beverages to drink ( we had our own drinks on hand) The chairs are very uncomfortable. The SAMOSAS we ordered came with Two and they were big and Hot. The Garlic Naan was also a descent size. The beans taste good.

Google
Love their Samosas & Kathi Rolls. The Chai is also good. They used to have a store near Central Park in Manhattan which I used to frequent but now they have closed it down, along with other Manhattan stores — too bad! This is their only physical store now. The prices are super reasonable for the quality and amount of food.

Google
This is a modern, Indian fast food/dine-in spot. You walk into a fresh new restaurant with a very sleek look. You can place your order on the screens they have and they will make it. You can peek into the glass to see what they’re cooking and how they’re doing it. They have some Deep snacks available as well to purchase. The food itself was surprisingly tasty, definitely great for a quick bite!

Google
Everything was wonderful! The food, the upstairs/downstairs seating, and the service! One of the managers went checking on customers and their food. Very nice of him, he also requested any suggestions. Before we left, we spoke with I believe another friendly manager. Let her know it was delicious, wasn't expensive like we were thinking and some Indian music would be nice to tie it all together. She mentioned they plan to bring in cocktails which is exciting. The portion size of the "Feast" option was on the smaller side. I would have loved to have more as it was so good! Overall, my husband and I will definitely be back!

Deven M.

Google
Brand new and so very modern and clean. Plenty of seating (upstairs as well) and the kiosks for ordering are great! The food has consistently been great - hot flavorful and perfect portion sizes. It doesn't feel like "fast food" which is a welcome change from the other neighborhood options! I'm really glad there is finally an Indian food option in the area - this will be part of my regular lunch rotation! I recommend dining in (tastes best hot) and trying it at least once!!

Yelp
Great fast food Indian food. The place is clean and modern. You order on a kiosk then they made your food pretty quick. I've tried the tikka masala chicken with paratha and the chicken samosas both were good.
google avatar

Sajeel A.

Yelp
These are the same deep Indian grocers who have been supplied packaged foods to international grocers every where! A neat fast food twist on Indian curries. Pick your base curry with chicken or paneer along with basmati rice or any type of naan bread. Nice! They are severely understaffed though...I mean the potential of being an Indian cuisine fast food type restaurant gets undermined. Oh yes...forgot to mention you can enjoy your food with craft beer!! Great potential!

Yelp
So I finally got a chance to come here ..... I wasn't sure to expect ... because I thought it was a "fast food " Indian cuisine spot. Plenty of parking Plenty of places to sit inside - downstairs and upstairs While there are some Indian dishes not on the menu- there are quite a lot of choices to pick from - whether you like Indian food already or if it's your 1st time . I started with the famous chicken tikka masala meal entree. You are able to say how hot you want it and which kind of naan bread you want with it. My personal favorite is garlic naan so that is what I went with. Now if you also want basmati white rice , Dal ( beans) and a tomato/cucumber salad you have to opt for the entree plus $2 bucks . I think it's worth it. The menu is pretty easy to navigate and you order thru the computer kiosk . I took my meal to go and ate it at home. Wow- I was pretty impressed with the flavors in the chicken tikka masala , and the quality of the garlic naan. Definitely enjoyed my meal - so much that I came back the next day to try the samosa 2-piece appetizer and also got the Paneer tikka masala ( which is the same I got yesterday but with cubes of cheese) . Delicious

Yelp
Good option for fast casual Indian food. It wasn't the most authentic, but it was tasty. Theres actually a fairly wide range of items on the menu. Only complaint was that the pakoras were not great. Ordering is done via ipads. While I am fine with this, it would be nice to be able to easily flag down a human if you need one. Unfortunately the design of the restaurant makes it hard, as everyone is fairly hidden. I had a question and had to literally yell out to get the attention of the only person that I could see, who didn't seem enthusiastic at all to help me. Biriyani was very flavorful. Came with a generous amount of sauces too. I think the prices are reasonable... maybe a little more than other fast casual options like Chipotle. Fairly large parking lot.

Yelp
This restaurant is immaculate. 4 self ordering kiosks, great selection of menu items and lassi's/cocktails/beer. Really nice vibes, tons and tons of seating. Really good customer service here. Convenient location right off route 22 with a TON of parking. We ordered level 1 spicy chicken tikka masalas- worth it to upgrade to feast, and 2 mango lassis. The mango lassis were delicious. I didn't love the chunks of tomato and ubiquitous cilantro, otherwise it was good. Garlic naan was fantastic! Imo this would be a great date spot, with plenty of seating and a really nice ambience.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious and amazing, modern interior!! I visited Deep TWICE in one week back in January and had the best time. The staff is so friendly and the food is fast casual and flavorful. While I can't speak to the authenticity of the food, I can say I really enjoyed it and I loved how you could customize every aspect of the meal, from the protein to the spice level--delish! If you're in the area, or shopping down at the Thrift Store, I seriously think this is a hidden gem if you're into Indian food. Try it out! Two reasons for the 4 stars--the price is a little high for the portion you get. While I loved the variety and customization aspect (and the quality of the food was quite high!), I felt a little underwhelmed at the portion. The second is that it somehow feels very strange at first, as all ordering is done with iPads towards the back of the store. However, the employee that handed me my food was super kind. Great, accessible parking lot too.

Yelp
Go deeeeep!!! This place offers a vast menu of deep home-cooked flavors at a fast food pace with very fair prices. You're in total control of the spice level for all entrees (as-is and Levels 1, 2, and 3). I recommend their hearty CRAFTED CURRY FEAST which comes with: *A PROTEIN (chicken, lamb, paneer (cheese), chana (chickpea) masala, or malai kofta (potato dumplings)) *RICE *Your choice of NAAN (original or garlic), lacha paratha (layered flatbread), or basmati rice, and *a CUCUMBER/TOMATO SALAD. This feast could be good enough for 2 meals. Then their Samosas are a perfect snack and deal with 3 pieces for $3 to $5 and your choice of chutney. I enjoyed their Original Potato & Pea flavor as well as their Spinach Paneer option. Then to drink, their refreshing and creamy Mango Lassi is just the right combination of tart and sweet. All of this has me rolling in the Deep! NOTES/TIPS: **Plenty of parking in their own lot. **Wheelchair-accessible. **Order for pick-up or delivery through Seamless.

Yelp
I was excited when I recently saw this product for the first time at my local Albertsons in Boise, Idaho. Deep Indian Kitchen is owned and operated by an Indian-American family who pride themselves on serving homestyle Indian food based on family recipes that go back for generations. They have three restaurants. They also have a frozen food product line. I don't eat a lot of frozen meals, but they come in handy for those days at work when I don't have leftovers or time to go out for lunch. I tried the frozen Butter Chicken meal. The rice and chicken were good quality. They heated up well in the microwave.. The chicken was nicely seasoned, but I would've preferred it to be a bit spicier. It also had a slightly sweet aftertaste that I didn't care for. I have since read that the frozen Chicken Tikka Masala is more spicy. I plan to try that flavor next.

Yelp
Best Indian food in the area AND the best value. We'll be back for sure. Across the street, same mall as Shoprite, they have a store where you can buy products for your homecooked meals.

Robin H.

Yelp
Still love your product so much! In fact I eat at least one a day! A perfect and healthy meal at a great price especially these days when everything is becoming unaffordable. I buy them at Walmart. In fact, I am getting other people interested in buying them. I saw this lady having an issue with what to buy so I asked her if she liked spicy food. She said yes. So I showed her your product and told her all about them. She smiled and bought two. I told a friend all about your product and now she is buying them. I just had your Butter Chicken and Rice dish for dinner and I loved it. Do you think you could make some desserts? Maybe ice cream? Thank you so much!!!'

Yelp
I love Deep Indian Kitchen. The space is beautiful and besides food you can purchase goodies like tea, cookies, and yogurt drinks. I don't believe it's the most authentic Indian food, but it's a great pick for a quick take out or sit in. The food is flavorful, and the portion are good for the price. On a busy day I recommend ordering ahead of time because it can take a while.

Yelp
I tried to keep my expectations mid since this is a fast casual Indian restaurant but I am happy to report it definitely exceeded my expectations!! When you first walk in there are iPads to order. I personally prefer this way because you know exactly what you're getting and the price, and you can pay there. We got a chicken tikka masala feast (comes with curry, choice of naan, and feast add-ons for extra $2 includes basmati rice, cucumber/tomato/onion salad, and daal) and lamb biryani. We also ordered two different types of samosas, the potato and pea and the chili paneer. The prices here are awesome. The portion sizes for our mains were large and you can get an order of two samosas for $2.95 which is rare. Our two entrees, two samosa orders, and a coconut water came out to less than $35. We dined in since there was plenty of seating. The very nice person working the register let us know our food was ready and we picked it up at the counter. The food was delicious and super filling! The picture may look like a small amount but you will be full afterwards. I'm happy to find a place with fast, affordable, and tasty Indian food. Looking forward to coming back! Check this place out!

Yelp
Deep Indian Kitchen...just a great gem in this area and much needed. A beautiful building with ample parking. The place is very clean, when you get in you order via touch screen what you want. A lot of different options on the menu, and everything is customizable (paneer, kofta, chicken etc). I had the samosa's, lassi, and kati roll. All of it was very good, fresh and quick service! It is fast food style! Overall, great experience and will be back to try the rest of things on the menu.

Mary N.

Yelp
Modern atmosphere, kiosk ordering Basic menu but Amazing tasting food with good portion sizes! Very reasonable prices. Less than a traditional sit down Indian restaurant. My new favorite Indian restaurant!

Michael S.

Yelp
I've here on several occasions. The food is so tasty and flavorful. (I normally get the chicken tikka masala.) Patrons normally order at kiosks and then pick it up at the front. The workers working the pick up area are friendly. The food is normally prepared quickly. The inside of the establishment is quite clean (just the way I like it). I normally spend about $12 to $20 for a full for myself. The only negative that I can think of is that the menu isn't huge. In any event, I 100% would recommend.

Tiffany F.

Yelp
Went here for lunch today, left with an extra take out order for dinner. The design and ambiance are sleek/modern type for a fast food joint. Jovaun at the counter was very friendly and helpful with helping us identify some dishes (i asked what the green spinach dish with white squares was called). I believe one of the owners walked in while I was picking up my order and asked if I had everything I needed. Ordered chicken tikka masala with rice and paneer with garlic naan 10/10 recommend!! I'll probably be here multiple times a week
google avatar

Saroasha E.

Yelp
Pretty good. We tried their chana, chicken kaati roll, garlic naan and paneer tikka. Everything was good. Super clean. Quick service. I like that they sell a few of their things there. Just wish they would add dosa to their menu too. It's so convenient for us and now we don't have to travel all the way to parsipanny to grab a quick Indian bite.
google avatar

Radha V.

Yelp
Something went wrong here! First visit was some time back where we loved the freshness of this new joint! Today we drove 40 min and it was chaos :( naan was not fresh, it went hard in few min of serving. Tea was luke warm, went back to counter and the helper tried her best for few min preparing new but again in few seconds it was luke warm. Not sure if it's drastic temp diff between kitchen to counter to table that's ruining the service. Logistics, the system didn't had rasamalai so they added up some other items to charge for it. They said our systems recently updated so we r facing issues. The place has lost its vibe for us, sorry not coming back..
google avatar

Samir N.

Yelp
Stopped in here after passing it numerous times. The wait was EXTREMELY long and the workers were not friendly or welcoming. Food was JUST OK, I expected more since their frozen goods are well known.
google avatar

Vikram G.

Yelp
Weekend lunch experience. Nice ambiance, newly build, open spaces and clean space. Service can be mostly classified as self-service but its easy to order and associates are present to explain the menu. Coming to food, 10/10. Great selection of Indian food. Big plus being every member can get something for themselves based on choice at nominal price and good portion size. Special mention for chicken biryani, one of the best I have eaten. Chicken literally melts in mouth. The chicken tikka and paneer tikka platter was also very flavorful and tasted super fresh. Lastly, they have great variety in ice cream, we tried mango and it was super. Great place for casual dine out, will surely return.
google avatar

Kiana L.

Yelp
I heard about the place from my colleagues and decided to try it out. Deep Indian kitchen is right off Rt22, plenty of parking and ample amount of seating inside. You order from a kiosk and they let you know when your food is ready. It's so spacious like a food court vibe and it wasn't a lot of people there so it's a great spot to bring your laptop and eat while getting some work done. I ordered the butter chicken and chicken tikka Marsala feast to go. That came with garlic naan, basmati rice and a cucumber salad. The food was delicious and at level 1 had just the right amount of heat. They also have dessert and smoothies.
google avatar

Michael L.

Yelp
Been meaning to get here for a while and finally did. Very good decision It's counter service which is no biggie. I had the Lamb Biryani with lentil and it was spicy just like I want it to be although you don't have to get it spicy if that's not your thing. Kati rolls and samosas were equally delicious, and there's an upstairs dining area which is nice and quiet
google avatar

Amit K.

Yelp
This is a good innovation from the Indian food company - Deep. The space is beautiful. The staff is friendly. Be prepared for a wait since the place can get busy. The food was flavorful. Overall kind of a "fast-casual" experience. The food was a bit adhered to the western palette. So not truly Indian - though the flavors were there. The portions was good for a fast casual setting but the prices were double that. Hard to justify the price.
google avatar

Jaan B.

Yelp
Delicious and I love that they serve a few drinks. They're also really friendly and there's a cute eating space upstairs.

Matt b.

Yelp
Indian fast food. There's much better places in NJ. It's not bad, but it's not good either.
google avatar

Serena L.

Yelp
The place is stylish and clean. Food was fresh and delicious. I will definitely come again.
google avatar

Chris C.

Yelp
I came here for the "soft launch", the ambiance is great, the ceilings are high with seating like you would expect to see at a buzzing grab and go restaurant in downtown NYC or Jersey City. The theme of the restaurant is unique for this area that is surrounded by fast food chains and restaurant franchises over a 5 mile radius. The restaurant definitely looks VERY promising from the outside and the inside with high end finishes and a kiosk based smart ordering system and plenty of seating. I had my order to go and I definitely would order all these items again: Chicken tikka curry with naan Lamb Samosa x2 Paneer and Spinach Samosa x2 Spicy chicken Kati roll x2 I will be adding this restaurant to my regular list of last minute dinners.
google avatar

Jasmine L.

Yelp
Food-wise, I was not disappointed. I got the chicken masala, mild spice, with rice and thought it was decent. The paratha was a little tough, but the potato pea samosas were probably the best thing I had there. The ambiance was really modern, loved the thought put into the interior design, especially the little seating area upstairs. However, I thought the service was terrible and just overall inattentive. I was waiting for a togo order. The first worker told me it should be ready soon, without even asking for my name or order number. So I waited, 15 minutes until past the time the order said it was going to be ready. There was no one to ask in the front, except for a man fixing an ice cream machine, who did not ask me once if I was being helped. Two men who just walked in the restaurant were standing behind me, when the one worker who was there asked them if they were being helped.. even though I was standing there for almost 25 minutes by that point. Finally, I was able to ask a female worker about my order, and she found it sitting on the togo counter.. I hope they improve on their communication and attention to customers because I was waiting for this place to open up for so long that I was I really disappointed.
google avatar

Martinez J.

Yelp
I give it a 1 out of 10 and I love Indian food but I'm very disappointed.. I will not order here again. I had a better Indian food in Africa. I should've ordered Chinese food.
google avatar

Alberto V.

Yelp
The food was amazing, great portion and low price to be honest. The place looked clean and the staff was very friendly. It was my first but definitely not my last time at this place.

Ankush P.

Yelp
I had the malai kofta and samosas and they were both delicious! The place looks very nice and looks much nicer than the price of food would suggest! Good food and came quick. 5/5

Tom H.

Yelp
This place was fantastic! Food was fresh and delicious. Perfect portion size and the staff was super kind and helpful. I will 100% be back to this beautiful and cool establishment.

Shawn A.

Yelp
The butter chicken from here is my favorite dish. Can't leave without grabbing samosa's and coriander sauce.

Y S.

Yelp
Decent food for a counter service restaurant. Curry was good. Naan was good. Samosa too greasy. Very clean place (2 floors). Draft beers and bottled beers available.

Bev B.

Yelp
On a recent visit I had the kati rolls - very delicious. Ingredients were really fresh. Staff was very friendly and helpful! Would definitely return!
google avatar

Roger H.

Yelp
Nothing more than a cheap take-out Indian restaurant. Tables look like a school cafeteria. Very limited menu with food that tastes like it was defrosted then heated up. Food is served on the same plastic convenience trays that it is sold in supermarkets. People behind the counter have no idea what the menu is all about either. I was looking forward to this opening but will NEVER return. Totally disappointing. Nothing authentic or good about this place.
google avatar

Garrett D.

Yelp
The food is absolutely delicious. I love Indian food in general and my work office is right around the corner so for door time I watched this place being built and was looking forward to it. It does not disappoint. It's modern and very clean inside and the food is amazing. The sandwich is a must try!!

Pallavi K.

Yelp
Being a Desi American growing up in Queens, I've been around a lot of people who know how to grind for their business...but this is the first time I saw a person, a young owner work behind the scenes and actually serve. Here's the story: This elderly Indian lady comes in, and is Jain, which basically means they don't eat anything from a root- so no potatoes, onions, garlic in food (why even live?). She asked this young man if he could make her anything without onions and garlic. If you've been here, you basically know it's Desi Chipotle- you have a few dishes, where you can choose your base, proteins, and toppings. A lot of the sauces and curries which are already prepared with onion and garlic need to be cooked down and served with the ingredients of your choice. So the man behind the counter, very young Indian man basically said, let me see what I can do for you. Guess what he did, he made a gravy and a dish without onions and garlic. Do you know who that young Indian man was? The owner. One of the most nicest and humble restaurant owners I've ever met. I was shocked, and told him he was too nice, and he just smiled. That speaks volumes. He even brought it to her at the table. Who does that? Now for the food: The food is authentic. Any Desi here knows Deep Foods is the Kraft of India. The fact that they've taken that and made amazing dishes that are available at a fast pace, that's affordable, made with CLEAN INGREDIENTS, AND NO PRESERVATIVES (you can pronounce everything on the back of their packages of prepped frozen foods and snacks for sale, and they are all clean ingredients we know, is amazing) is beyond impressive. For the reviews that are complaining about wait times, and how busy they are... they're busy because the food is good, and they prepare it fresh. The portions are perfect, as it's meant to be a balanced, fresh, and healthy meal. It's authentic food, and the food they serve is similar to how most of Indians eat at home- very little cream, butter, and it's just fresh, and you don't feel terrible after (like a lot of other overpriced Indian restaurants) This place is the real deal, and I can't wait for them to expand to more areas throughout the country.

Yelp
This was the coolest Indian food experience I have ever had and I've been Indian for my whole 26 years of life hahaha no but seriously, they make the food fresh right in front of you & you can watch as the chef blazes it up in the kitchen (so cool). The service was incredible and the staff was really friendly. The decor of the place was so modern and appealing. It's a total vibe! Love love love It! They also were accommodating to my vegan dietary preference!

Ami N.

Yelp
The portions had significantly decreased with delivery. Very little food and price increased for baby portions

Amrit B.

Yelp
I'm a foodie and I usually don't do yelp reviews Bc I don't trust people. And for that exact reason, I thought I would do my fellow foodies a favor by posting my thoughts on this place. I went to the NY location many times but the Jersey location has a diff menu. 12/10. I recommend this to my fellow Indian lovers, my foodies, and the scared peeps who get nervous trying new food. The food is authentic so that's that. It's made with simple clean ingredients as I had to ask due to a lot of allergies that I have. It's clean, authentic, Indian food. The spice level is up to you and can pick the meter of hotness you want which I have always loved about this chain. My friend that I went with is vegetarian and she was concerned whether the meats and veggies were being contaminated as MOST places do (cough cough chipotle). But not here. They have a separate frying section for vegetarian food and separate for the meat based product. They change their gloves, no questions asked. And make sure they do right by all parties. The manager was so nice, he guided us through everything and the staff was friendly. 12/10 Foodies you are safe to proceed!

Jayshree B.

Yelp
My daughter took me and my husband to this location and it was really good. My husband and I enjoyed the spice level of the food. We are gujarati and we love our spicy food and this restaurant delivered! The price for the food is sustainable compared to the big serving size of their meals. We also brought our family later on last month and we enjoyed the ambiance and beer and yummy food!

Yelp
Love this place. It's such a good lunch spot that hits the spot when I get the indian food craving in Union county. Good job!

Geevan S.

Yelp
I enjoyed it. Serice was fats. Food was decent. and the whole feel of the place was nice.

Amanda J.

Yelp
My friend recommended this place to me so I decided to get takeout from it tonight. I would 100% recommend anyone who wants to eat some yummy indian food. I got the chicken tikka masal combo. The rice and chicken Combo together is delicious. I will be coming back as regular!

Mark T.

Yelp
Let's start with the good: the food is good and the ambiance is nice. The real problem is the service. It wasn't crowded when we went and there were five people working there. But everyone was waiting long periods of time for food. No one cares. We spent about an hour there eating at what is supposed to be fast food. It wasn't, and they don't care. Food is good if you don't mind rotting while you wait.

I love it here!!!! Authentic Indian food that is true to the taste and spice is super hard to find. You can go to any Indian restaurant and I can guarantee that it is frozen food being reheated and served but man I was mind blown! The food is so delicious and fresh. The manager was so helpful and you can tell they have such passion for the food and stay true to its roots. Will definitely be coming back here for more!!
