Gov. Baker Must Rethink Indoor Dining as COVID-19 Surges, Say Local Public Health Experts | Eater Boston

"Recent wastewater monitoring at the treatment plant shows levels of viral RNA at their highest since the pandemic’s initial spring surge and trending upward, a development local scientists say could have serious implications for indoor dining this fall and winter as colder weather pushes people indoors. Experts described the findings as “super worrisome,” noting that wastewater data reflect the true level of community infection beyond testing numbers, and urged officials to consider pulling back on indoor gatherings — including dining — and to communicate a clear plan for winter responses. The surge in wastewater signals coincides with policy changes that recently expanded indoor dining capacity statewide (increasing table sizes from six to ten and allowing bar seating), while the city of Boston has maintained a six-person table cap; public-health leaders worry those relaxations, combined with complacency and disinformation, are contributing to rising transmission. Confirmatory indicators include a spike to 1,128 newly reported cases on October 24 (the highest since mid-May) and a 75% increase in average daily cases over two weeks, prompting calls for stricter, better-communicated measures and clarity on what triggers and targets any future restrictions." - Terrence Doyle

What an amazing walk! On windy days, dress very warm and plan on potentially protecting yourself and your camera from huge splashes of water! The waves come crashing over the walls during several parts of this walk! The views are stunning and you are facing the ocean the entire time! Waterproof footwear will have your feet thanking you!

I went down Deer Island about 5:30 am Sunday to beat the rush . The temp was about 76° with very little wind and very few people. It was a very enjoyable walk. It is now 2:27 close to 100° and couldn't and probably wouldn't want to get close to that place.

Love refilling my bottled spring water there. Cheapest in town at 18 cents a gallon. Most places charge 75 cents or more, and tastes better than store bought. Feels good to support local business too.

I tell ya, You haven't been treated like wastewater until you've been to deer. I mean that in all the best ways. You go in feeling like gray water, and, then leave feeling fresh as a daisy. I only trust them with my waste water. I don't even know why someone would want to or even consider going anywhere else.

Service was terrible. Considering everything, you would expect them to at least have decent water. People kept yelling at me! "This isn't a restaurant!"; "You're not allowed in here!". Its like they didn't want my business! Ravioli was decent.

Take the tour! Not only is it an great look into how water treatment works (and hardly smelly at all, thanks to the odor management system), but the management of sewage in urban areas is one of the greatest health achievements of all time and Deer Island is, depending on what measure you use, the largest or second largest wastewater treatment plant in terms of volume of water treated. (Also, if you work for Firaxis, this should be a World Wonder in the next Civilization game. Thanks!)

Wannabe tough guy is security there. Threatened one of my friends but backed down quickly. Definitely weak and unprofessional.
