DeFazio's Pizzeria Albany

Perfect spot for a pizza in Albany. The pizza was fresh and tasted great. Beer was also so good. We came and sat outside where a band was playing in the back. The ambience was perfect.

Defazios Pizza was delicious, especially with the homemade sausage on top! Bought the pizza there and went next to the bar patio (Albany Distilling Company) where my wife and I enjoyed a nice adult beverage on the sunken patio! The server from the pizzeria delivered our pies to the table! The only suggestion I would add is that the condiments were lacking, no fresh ground pepper or salt but we enjoyed the food and atmosphere immensely!

Glad to have had the opportunity to visit this well known local spot while visiting the area. Unlike any pizza joint experience i’ve ever had. First we ordered at a counter before being escorted through the back of a narrow alley into a small garden seating area. nothing formal, all low key. The food came out quick and the service was friendly. the pizza itself was some of the best i’ve ever had. very doughy with unique flavor that almost melts in your mouth. there was a perfect amount of seasoning over fresh mozzarella cheese. I like the options of various doughs to try as well. We went with the standard dough to get the original flavor. Also tried the garlic bread and house made meatballs. The sauce for both was equally delicious. I hope to have the opportunity to re-visit this location to try some of the speciality pizza and pasta options. Very highly recommended 🍕 🍝 🥖

Positives- the pizza is not greasy and tastes like quality ingredients are used. Negatives- Both pies were very burnt. One of them they remade for us and it came back almost as burnt as the previous pie. We accepted, but burnt crust does not tastes good at all, it also very doughy. The woman at the counter did not acknowledge the issue with the pizza but at least she asked if we wanted another pizza made. This place certainly does not live up to the hype.

We grabbed two gluten free pies and were so happy with the flavor. The sauce and the cheese blend is still killer on the plain pizza (at least from my memory of pre-GF days!). GF crusts are usually hit-or-miss and this one is pretty good. Was great to sit at the bar in the distillery too-- gorgeous brickwork and ambiance. Bartender was attentive and knowledgeable.

The vegan margarite pizza and the vegan mozzarella sticks are fabulous. I especially love how kind they are to bring the food over to where you're sitting in Albany Distilling Co right next door. Best business duo EVER.

We ordered 2 pizzas and went next door to have a drink. When the pizza's were read, they brought them to us...it was great. The pizza was amazing. I loved the whole experience

This Place Is Not Even Close To The Troy One! Pizza Taste Different! Totally Burnt! Not Charcoaled Like Charcoaled Ovens Or Wood Ovens Leave Some Dark Spots But This Pizza Was Totally Burnt Top And Bottom Like Burnt Toast! Disgusting! I Rate It A 1.5 !

This place was awesome. We sat outside which was very cool. The pizza was phenomenal. We got the bambino, which was so good we came back the week after to get it again.

Defazios in Albany is directly attached to Albany Distilling Company and make a great pair for dinner and a drink. We ordered take out, sorry no seating in Defazio's. The online ordering system is easy to use and shows you how long to expect to wait for your pizza. Defazios uses a bread down rather than a traditional pizza dough. I'm a big fan of the wood fired brick oven taste of the old family recipe crust. We ordered a vegan Florentine pizza. The pepperoni was savory and the cheese was melty. I definitely recommend ordering take out, delivery, or grabbing a pie to enjoy at the distillery next door.

Pizza and cocktails - what more could you want?! We have tried several of their pizzas, but have tended to stick to what we know we can't live without - the eggplant pizza and the arugula and prosciutto pizza. Chefs kiss! They have some salads and apps that are also a great addition to the meal, but the pizza is the hit here. If you're looking for dessert - Their hangover cake is delightful. The service is always great - they take your order in the shop and will deliver it to your table at Albany Distilling. Depending on when you go, the time may vary widely in terms of how long it takes for food. They get very busy on Friday and Saturday nights!

I am not a local like a few of my friends who were unaware of this pizza parlor. The 10" size was ideal for a single person, and the 14" size was ideal for families or big parties. We had to settle for 10" pizzas because this location ran out of dough to make the 14", but the pizza was delicious. This hidden pizza jem is Albany's best. Try the fresh or regular mozzarella with any of the toppings.They offer seats adjacent to the bar, and if the weather is good plan to sit outside. Adding to our foodie list for the next time we visit Albany.

Friendly, fast, and DELICIOUS! Highly recommend the BBQ chicken pizza. You need to take out or eat next door at the distillery but it was yummy!

The best pizza In the capital region! So many amazing options. I am so grateful they are dairy and gluten sensitive for my recent dietary restrictions.

Ok the pizza is really good. I just wish the price was a little lower and the pizzas were larger. I really liked the broccoli pizza and my husband liked the cheese.

The pizza from Defazio's is amazing. It is probably only of the best New York style pizzas that we've ever had.

Its a small place and they usually do pickup orders. But if you are at Albany Distilling Company they bring the order to you table. The service was quick and we tried their fresh mozzarella pizza and it was really delicious and fresh. Definitely one of the best pizzas i have had in a while.

The pizza is amazing! It's definitely one of the best pizza places I've been to. The cheese, sauce and crust are amazing. The crust could've been slight more crispy, but that could just be because I prefer an extra crispy crust. Highly recommend!!

It is about as far from New York pizza as I have ever had. Tasted like HungryHowies way too much bread in the crust.

I love grabbing a drink next door at the distillery and sitting out back under the sky to enjoy this amazing pizza! We always order one of their great salads - if we take out my kids insist in getting extra dressing- it's oil and vinegar but somehow it's a strong above... just like all the things they make. You really can't go wrong. And if you are dairy free - this is the jackpot! My kid can't eat dairy and she loves loves loves the vegan pizza - just spot on! My dad always asks to get pizza here or in Troy when he visits from out of town... and that's serious in my book. The sauce is just right, sweet but not too sweet, great tomato flavor. The dough -oh the dough... so good. Just thick enough that it doesn't fall apart. And crust along the edge a bit thicker .... With those bubbles sometime that I love... and the first bite just wants to fall into your mouth. And the cheese.... Whether it's fresh mozzarella, mozzarella, smoked mozzarella or the vegan cheese is just the right amount - not overwhelming and balanced against the sauce and dough. Highly recommended in our book!

Good pizza. Not bad at all. We went during the pseudo closure so only takeout was available but we were happy with the service and the food. Good job.

Since DeFazio's opened up the Albany location , it's been my go to place for pizza. It's so good it's ruined practically all the rest of the pizza joints around for me. Pizza menu is small, just a half dozen or so options of personal sized pizza. Kitchen turns out meals for the distillery guests next doorp too so maybe you can order more than just pizza, but the pizzas are made in a wood fire oven, the dough is delicious and the pizza is just Albany's best by far. Everyone prefers a different pizza so ymmv but if you really like good pizza, you owe it to yourself to check this place out. Occasionally they have a fresh fig, prosciutto, arugula, balsamic flavor that is divine but usually enjoy the pepperoni red and the various white pizzas.

DOGS SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED IN RESTAURANTS OR any establishment where food is being prepared!!!!!! I Love dogs too!! However, I don't want Dog hair on my pizza OR on my pizza box!! Defazio, your pizza is Delicious!! But, NOT with Dog hair on it!! Your establishment is the size of a giant shoe box, which doesn't allow a lot of room, and then you allow animals!!! Dogs have hair ALL OVER them and that hair gets all over and In Everything! Even your DAYUM food !!! You were on the Top of my pizza list as your pizza is Delish and Not greasy. I Love the 10 and 14 inch pizzas but again NOT with Dog hair on it!!!!!! The young lady working in there saw the disappointed look on me and the gentlemen's face standing next to me, when the TWO dogs entered,.... She said NOTHING!!!I I need to go somewhere else as I Like dogs but, I don't want to eat their hair Sorry!! I'm giving this place a 3, out of 5!! Defazio, people who want pizza can leave their dogs at home (for a few), go get their pizza, and come back home to their animal. They don't have to bring the animal to the restaurant or takeout spot !!! I'm just saying. AND the 2 dogs, after getting the pizza, the dumb owners were then taking the pizzas AND DOGS into the bar "Albany Distillery" WTF for ?? Do dogs order and drink alcohol?? NO, which goes show those two buttheads that had those dogs just wanted to bring their dogs with them!!! What about those who feel like me, what about those allergic to dog hair?? To hell with us right.......

I got physically ill after eating this garbage in the city of Albany. This should be a hard pass. Found a hair in my pizza and the place if filthy. Skip it. Dogs lingering around....gross.

Excellent pizza and great service to Albany distilling next door! 10inch pies are perfect for one person, and house salad was fresh and well-dressed. Desserts also delicious and fresh.

Found this place because it was #2 on the Times Union 2021 best of list, then saw comments that it was highly ranked by Portnoy. I am really glad I found it. Not only are the pizzas amazing (using bread dough for a chewier crust, a feature you will love) but the Greek salad was a huge hit. Prices are great for the quality of the pies you're getting. One commenter complained that the cheese was too salty but I liked it (it's on the salty side but not overly so).

Pizza was delicious, service was fantastic. Ready right on time too. I don't have a picture, we ate it too fast.

I will never go back, which is a shame because I really would have liked to have at least TRIED the pizza. Back in Jan. I visited for the first time and the woman at the counter yelled at me the entire time I was there. I sat on the edge of a seat in a booth just to rest (my sugar level was low) and look over the menu and she screamed at me that the booth was reserved. I'm not exaggerating, everyone turned and stared at me. There was no indication whatsoever that the table was reserved so how was I supposed to know? She pointed at a corner where a small, questionable table stood and said, "you can sit there." I refused the ratty-looking accommodation. My friend went up to get a menu and she made a point of looking over him and help another customer in line. At that point I walked out. I'm a grown-ass woman, talk to me like you have some sense and respect. I give one star because the pizza may have been great but I'll never know.
