Yelp
I love this location. A beautiful, open space with a large covered backporch right on the Intracoastal, across the bridge slightly apart from the hubbub of downtown, and free parking in an actual lot behind the building. This is a newish restaurant in a spot that has had quite some turnover in the past. I came here wanting to take my visiting family from out of town to a waterfront dinner spot without a reservation. We were aiming for Deck84, but decided to try out Del Fuego instead, which is directly opposite that restaurant.
What I was not expecting was this was the perfect place to bring my kids. We were seated at the most perfect spot, at the North end of the back patio, directly next to one of the dock entrances, which has wooden fences along it. My children loved looking at the water to spot crabs, fish, etc, and because our table was so close, they were able to very happily be on the dock walkway while the adults lingered at the table.
In this case, the beauty of the water, the novelty of watching wildlife and boats pull up, and the ability to let antsy children move their bodies as each of us took turns taking them on a walk around the dock, was so perfect. The dock has benches on it with brand new looking red cushions.
I highly encourage Del Fuego to take advantage of this! My kids go to school in Delray, so I will definitely be checking out their happy hour (aka afterschool specials) menu, now that I know my kids love being there.
There are only 3 items on the kids menu: chicken fingers with a million fries and 2 other things I can't remember. Needless to say, my kids filled up on the endless tortilla chips and endless-that-night pink lemonade cups (served child friendly in a clear plastic cup with a lid and straw), so it was doggy bags for their leftovers.
Our waiter was awesome, so friendly and helpful, and he spoke Spanish to my Spanish-speaking in-laws. The endless complimentary salsa and chips was very generous. We ordered the guacamole, which looked kind of small but actually was appropriate for our table, though it lacked salt rather severely (an easy fix tho!). We all ordered different things. I had the taco beef quesadilla, and it was quite good! A tiny dollop of sour cream, but I assume if I had requested more I would have received it.
Thank you for having a creative and robust 'mocktails and lemonade' section on the menu. I had an INCREDIBLE mocktail- pink, fizzy, delicious- I am craving one right now just writing about it: the 'Cactus Fizz,' with prickly pear, hibiscus, lemon, and ginger beer.
Last but not least, the decor in the front lobby is super fun, and they definitely go down for best decorated women's bathroom, with a Frida Kahlo tribute and even ceiling decorations.
Peaceful waterfront view, eats that everyone can enjoy, very happy children, and a drink to remember = sweet!
