"After more than four years in business, Delaware and Hudson — a Williamsburg neighborhood restaurant that held a Michelin star for years — is closing its doors at the end of the month. Chef-owner Patti Jackson posted a note to the restaurant’s social media channels earlier this week, noting that a mixture of reasons led to the decision. She cites the changing nature of business in New York, the labor market, personal changes, and “the inexorable changes in our neighborhood” as reasons. The impending L train shutdown also played a role, the note says. “It has been a really difficult decision, but we just can’t bear the cost of doing business here anymore,” Jackson writes in a message to Eater. The chef will be taking time off after the closing for the holidays before working on new projects, which will be announced on a yet-to-launch website. Jackson opened the restaurant in spring 2014, her first solo venture after being executive chef at Italian fine dining restaurant I Trulli. The northern Pennsylvania native looked to mid-Atlantic states for the menu of seasonal, locally sourced fare and quickly gained accolades for the execution. In a first look, Eater critic Robert Sietsema deemed it “a breath of fresh air,” and Pete Wells gave it one star, saying that any weak spots are outweighed by the wins. It ended up as one of his favorite new restaurants of the year and eventually maintained a Michelin star for years, though it did not receive one for 2019.
