Restaurants That Are Extremely Close To Light Rail Stops For When You’ve Had Enough Of The Rain

"University Street Station There is some serious sandwich magic happening at Delicatus, and we love it. It’s a counter-service spot that serves many different types of meat and cheese and vegetable combinations between two slices of bread, and while you can’t go wrong with most of them, the Mudd Honey is what you need to be eating. It’s a hot mess of roast beef, smoked turkey, bacon, cheddar, horseradish aioli, and a river rapid’s worth of BBQ sauce. Take extra napkins." - aimee rizzo

The Downtown Lunch Guide

"If you’re the kind of person who still feels hungry after a sandwich, you’re overdue for a visit to Delicatus. The sandwiches here are exactly the kind of messy creations you might want to use a fork and knife to eat (especially if your office has a corporate dress code). The Mud Honey (with smoked turkey, roast beef, white cheddar, bacon, horseradish aioli, and homemade barbecue sauce) is our favorite, but let it be known that we're not held liable if your crisp white shirt gets absolutely destroyed." - aimee rizzo

Ordered the vegan sandwich. Would have been better off just ordering a salad. Only a couple slices of tomatoe a few pieces of cucumber a ton of wide sliced carrots, zero avacado slices but some super thin avocado spread that was only put on one slice of bread. Won’t be ordering that again.

Google
Visiting from Texas! Wanted the tuna salad but they were out. Settled with the chicken salad, it was good but not great. Could use more flavor. The bread was great, and the chicken back potato soup was even better. Thanks for a great experience!

Just like Kylo Ren screaming "MOOOORE!" in Episode 8, I want more of these sandwiches. When the staff said "everything is good, I'm not just saying that" they were not just saying that. If there's one thing that's going to bring me back down to Seattle (from BC) it's going to be these sandwiches.

Google
Amazing sandwiches with a really creative menu, perfect for lunch downtown. As someone who's been coming here for years, Delicatus is always delicious, and they never compromise on fresh ingredients or quality. My go-to order is the Rebel, and as for the staff, Nick and Nicki are the best!

Google
Small lil lunch spot that offers excellent sandwiches and soups. Small space that's perfect for solo excursions or to-go orders. It's tucked away at the entrance of Symphony Station behind Benaroya Hall on the 2nd Ave-side.

Google
Servers were rude and didn’t want to answer questions about the menu and the bread was slimy and of the quality of bargain bin expired product. Perfect example of why not to tip until after the meal. I regret spending my lunch hour and $20 plus a 20% tip for a tiny nasty sandwich and a lukewarm cup of soup, which they said would take another 15 minutes to heat because they have no microwave. May I suggest heating the soup before you serve it? And perhaps up the budget for bread? Subway is much better and cheaper. As would be any fast food place. I ended up eating only the bag of chips. Total disappointment. Don’t go.

Google
Exquisite experience. My taste buds were delighted upon first bite of The Rebel. The crispy bolo roll with layers of pastrami and pickled jalapeños provided a perfectly balanced sandwich. Added a little extra jalapeño lime aioli for the saucy complexion that I prefer. Perfectly satisfied yet pining for more. My wife had the Dixon Club with the soup of the day: Tuscan bread soup which was a complex tomato base with fresh vegetables that had a hint of spice at the end. It was the perfect compliment to a simple sandwich. Although simple, it was not lacking in flavor…turkey was moist and generously sliced and the bacon cooked to perfection added the necessary crunch. The soft sourdough balanced it out. We will definitely be back to this gem of a West Coast sandwich shop.

Google
So this place just opened up here in this location in the past few months so I went with my BF (both vegetarians) to check it out. I got the Veggie BBQ sandwich and he got the Trane sandwich and my god it was amazing! Definitely gonna go back

Yelp
Haven't been to Delicatus since they moved from Pioneer Square to Benaroya Hall till earlier this week with a friend. Service was friendly and fast. i had the half sandwich half salad. I went with D Classic Sandwich and House salad. Thought it was a great deal for the price now days. i would actually come just for the salad. not often you get goat cheese on a house salad also had pepitas light dressing not overly dressed. Sandwich was good generous proportion of pastrami. Some indoor seating and some table on the outside on 2nd Ave. Nothing too fancy well let and comfortable signs and menu's easily accessible.

Yelp
The staff took my order and made my sandwich pretty quickly. They were pretty matter of fact and efficient. I decided to take it to go since they don't have great lighting for reading or working. They have a good selection of options for dietary needs which was helpful! Several vegetarian items and a decent vegan option and you can add on a side if you'd like more.

Yelp
Whom ever is driving the company vehicle on 11/2/24 needs to slow down and stop cutting other drivers. Current time 11:26am

Yelp
Do not go to this place. The rude sullen employees seemed annoyed I asked questions about the menu, then took 20 minutes to slap some cold cuts between nasty mushy store bought bread. When I tried to cut it in half, the bread ripped apart and it was clinging together by the crusts which were hard as rocks. The soup was slopped into cup messily and was cold. I asked them to heat it and was told there was no microwave so it would take a while. There was no line, they just did not have the slightest interest in getting my order filled or in helping me. This is a great example of why you don't tip before a meal. I want my $20 and 20% tip and my lunch hour back, and you three need to get out of the service industry. May I suggest you dig through a trash can for your lunch instead? It would be a better experienced.

Yelp
Food is good, but they are consistently out of something and it is a bit over priced for what you get. I've given this place a fair share of attempts as I work in the area and 75% of the time they are missing some aspect of the food items and just substitute whatever they got on hand. If you are going to charge premium, you gotta have what you promote on the menu and not just mix and match ingredients together. Employees are nice but not very helpful. I have been told 3 times in a row that I will have rewards on the next visit to use, but conveniently they always have an issue or say I don't have enough rewards. I don't know what is happening on their end but it's now at a point that it feels like they are cheap used car dealership and will say anything to bring you back. If you don't want to reward repeat business it's fine, but don't keep promising things and then have employees lie or create really random scenarios to explain the situation. I may or may not go back even though I have visited this place at least 7 times in the past few months. Got over listening to them tell me what is missing and keep lying to me about giving me rewards next time.

Yelp
Really good place to grab a sandwich for lunch if you work downtown! I'm sick of this place now because we order it at least once a week lol. The AL strong is my favorite! Be sure to order ahead online because it gets super busy.

Yelp
I had a pretty hilarious experience at this location where I loved the food but the process getting my food was almost something out of your favorite sitcom. They ran out of everything, and I mean everything - sourdough bread? Nope, rye? Nix that, wheat? Just sold the last one and we came during 12 pm for lunch! Another huge con was how long I had to wait for my takeout order - approx 35 minutes which during a lunch break, is not okay by any means. I ordered a combo that cost me around $11 and got the reign man and house salad. The reign man was so fricking good! The original reign man comes on sourdough bread and is stuffed with fresh roast beef, lettuce, tomato, onion, and slathered with a horseradish spread. The salad was a decent portion and was topped with fresh goat cheese and pumpkin seed, salad dressing on the side. I want to go back because I'm not sure if I just came on an off day and their food was pretty good and fresh, but only will return when I have a longer gap for lunch!

Yelp
Holy cats, what a delicious sandwich. Tasty potato salad that they actually thought about. Super nice people. I'll be back often.
google avatar

Yelp
Got the mudd honey, great meaty substantial sandwich for when you're ravenous. My only wish is that it had a little coleslaw on it to give it a crunch and tang. Convenient location.
google avatar

Yelp
Visiting from SF and just looking for a place for lunch. Convenient location and reasonable prices for a sandwich nowadays. $13 for a juicy reuben. Probably the best lunch I've had during my stay here in Seattle.
google avatar

Yelp
I like the people here, they are very friendly and always take their time explaining what they have! The salads are amazing, you can just taste how utterly organic it is. The pudding dessert is to die for!

Yelp
I had a very nice experience here and a great sandwich. It was the special of the day, but I'll be back to try some of the menus mainstays. The beef was perfectly prepared with a touch on the rare side. The horseradish was present without over powering. I was surprised how well Swiss worked here, I'm usually not a big fan. Grand Central bread is always great, but sometimes has too large a crumb, not here thankfully. The only other flavor that readily came through was the arugula which added a nice bit of freshness. I look forward to more. ;)

Yelp
What a hidden gem! Great food and wonderful people. I had the reign man sandwich and to say it was delicious doesn't do it justice, it was more like BAM!!! If you are anywhere near downtown Seattle, you need to drop in and sample some of the deliciousness they offer! Great options for beer and wine too!!
google avatar

Ashley R.

Yelp
Mike provided great service and great conversation! The food was excellent and hit the spot. We will be back again

Yelp
Fresh meat + fresh bread + excellent veggies = serious awesomeness. I've been here a few times and dig it every time. Really quality ingredients makes really good sandwiches and that's what they do here. If you're hungry go for the Rebel - pastrami kills it!

Tim F.

Yelp
The Mud Honey is the best sandwich I have had in years is Seattle!!! WOW!!! Staff is chill, vibe is killer Just go before 11:30 or after 1 because the lines can get long. With the experience I just had the lines should be long!!
google avatar

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place. My husband and I popped in here for a bit of lunch before a lunch hour concert at the Triple Door, and it was conveniently located. He got a French dip-type thing, I got a Reuben. His was soggy even before any kind of dipping happened. Mine had corned beef that was so full of fat that I had to disassemble every fourth bite, and the balance of flavors was off- not enough thousand island dressing to compensate for all the savory flavors going on. At over $30 for two sandwiches and two cans of soda, I kind of expect better quality than this.
google avatar

Chris M.

Yelp
Blown away by the veggie meatball sandwich. Flavors and texture were out of this world, and the pesto was so flavorful! Can't wait to go back.
google avatar

Erin M.

Yelp
I stop here regularly for lunch and am never disappointed in the food or the service. Sandwiches are really tasty, especially the popular Pavo Diablo! Oyster chowder is also delicious. The outside seating gets some amazing sun during the lunch break, or if you sit inside they usually have a great playlist of tunes going and while crowded, sitting at the counter is great. Check this place out!!!

Yelp
I have been working in Seattle downtown for four years and their sandwiches are always a good lunch choice for me and my colleagues. Really good food and ingredients. Price is a little expensive but considering the high-quality food, there is really not much to complain about. However, this blonde waitress behind the counter kept giving me very uncomfortable experiences. One time I got an over-burnt pull pork sandwich, and I had to walk back to the store to get another one. After seeing the disastrous sandwich, she gave me a gloomy face and interrupted me directly. She did not give me any explanation why this happened and whether they would stop serving this batch of bitter pork to other customers. Instead, she just asked me what did I want in a blunt way...It felt like I made some mistake and I had to beg her for my lunch. What soothed my anger was a phone message from the manager afterwards. He apologized to me and sweared that was only an accident. Today I ordered a sandwich online and went to pick it up. When I was searching for my sandwich, she looked at me and said they are still preparing it. I trusted her and kept waiting there. After I asked her again after 10 minutes, she realized the sandwich was just behind her. She still did not forget to say "You just need to give me your name...". God, is it so hard for her to use the magical word "sorry"?

Sruta P.

Yelp
Iv heard quite a lot about this place via locals. Unfortunately they barely had anything for vegetarians. They only had 3 options- vegetarian delight sandwich, vegetarian sandwich and salad. They did not have anything for veggie sandwich and unfortunately their salad quantity was very small. But my co-workers enjoyed their sandwiches, so I am guessing they are good?!

Yelp
Great dynamic sandwiches that taste amazing, prices are extremely high but that's all of downtown Seattle. Is it worth the money? Heck yes!!!!!!
google avatar

Mike G.

Yelp
Delicious sandwiches. Unfortunately on a Friday at 12:30, they are already out of most food: soup of the day, chowder, ciabatta bread, chicken. Poor planning on having required ingredients for their established menu.
google avatar

Dustin P.

Yelp
This is by far one of my favorite sandwich spots ever. I was really sad when they closed their Pioneer Square location as I used to eat there almost weekly and work just around the corner. I would highly recommend to support this sandwich shop when they're going through a tough time such as now. I tried to order a sandwich from them still weekly through the Caviar app
google avatar

Katrina V.

Yelp
The special, "The Duwamish", is AMAZING. I don't know what else to say. I'm not a huge fan of sandwiches unless they're of great quality, have a lot of meat, savory spreads and flavorful vegetables. This was beyond my expectations. You can tell how delicious their sandwiches are from the smell alone. As soon as I walked in, I knew I was in the type of sandwich place I liked. If you're looking for quality sandwiches in this area and don't mind the price, you need to stop by.
google avatar

Aaron W.

Yelp
These guys care about food. Sandwiches that are full of taste and fresh ingredients. I had the Tarrega, a pork sandwich with peppers, Cole slaw, chipotle aoli, cheddar and cilantro. It's a must try. Small seating area right off of 2nd Ave.
google avatar

Mindy D.

Yelp
Have walked by this place several times and decided to check it out. I got a turkey reuben. They make the sandwiches to order so it does take a little bit of time. I really liked my sandwich but it barely had any dressing on it so it was rather dry. The bread was wonderful though. Next time I would order extra dressing though!
google avatar

Stephen B.

Yelp
Baller sandwiches. Great service. Quality everything. Ya, it's like $2 more than I'd prefer to spend for a sandwich, but it's really really good every time. A bit small inside so it can be a bit cramped at times. But really, the only thing that matters is that the sandwiches are the best around.
google avatar

Ben H.

Yelp
There are only two difficult things when you go to this location: (1) its hard to find a seat, and (2) you probably have to choose just one sandwich. My personal favorite is the Mudd Honey, but the Reign Man is amazing as well and just the other day I had the AL Strong for the first time in a year and then remembered how amazing it is. That's ignoring whatever special they have going, which is often something that just reading it will make your mouth water. Everything is large, filling, and absolutely delicious. I wish you could do a 1/2 sandwich combo with more of their menu, but when you want it the ones available are still great. Also, if you are around there with any regularity, their rewards program is really good.
google avatar

Brianna H.

Yelp
Went here for lunch today. Ordered right away. Menu is pretty overwhelming, not going to lie. There could be simplification and better organization. But that being said I ordered a turkey sandwich that came with arugula, tomato, onion and an herbed mayo on a wheat bread. It was delicious. We sat up at the counter which was quaint. Would eat here again for sure. Quality was key
google avatar

Alex F.

Yelp
Great sandwich place downtown and close to the hotel we were staying. We had the Reuben and the Pavo and both were delicious - would definitely recommend for a quick lunch with quality ingredients.

Raya H.

Yelp
I was lucky enough to enjoy this beauty of a sandwich for lunch today! And this picture is the half that was left! It was big and fresh ( the lettuce was green and crisp. Not all wilted and soggy and the tomato was ripe! ) the bread was crispy on the outside but so soft on the inside - and the meat was the best I've ever had in a sandwich! Was a perfect sandwich
google avatar

Thomas P.

Yelp
Love this food but just showed up at 4:40 and they're closing an hour and twenty minutes early because they're "out of bread" ... so I guess just take that into consideration, y'all....

Heather C.

Yelp
This is my first visit and I ordered a kale salad with chicken, which came to $13. Even before I opened the box (which was only about 2/3 full) I could tell it wasn't kale, so I went back in and asked. All the workers behind the counter insisted it was "baby kale". Someone needs a lesson that arugula is not kale. Disappointed.
google avatar

Adriana R.

Yelp
My company just moved their offices across the street from this place - HEAVENLY FOOD. Had the Ballard Lox...the most savory fish, the toastiest and crunchiest bread, along with the freshest veggies!! YUM!!! Coming here EVERY DAY!!!
google avatar

David B.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this gem of a sandwich shop next to University Street Station. They make the most delicious breakfast wrap with sausage, goat cheese, scrambled egg, potatoes, and basil that is quickly becoming part of my morning routine. Nice vibe with friendly people!
google avatar

Amanda L.

Yelp
Probably one of the best sandwiches in the city. Everything was fresh and high quality. There's a great variety of sandwiches for anyone. Definitely recommend.
google avatar

Chelsea Q.

Yelp
What a hidden gem! I've worked directly across the street from this place for two years and had no idea it was here! I'm slowly making my way through their menu and so far haven't found anything that isn't delicious! The Pavo Diablo is my favorite so far. There are a variety of sandwiches and they also have a half sandwich, half salad lunch combo. Seating inside is fairly limited but there is some additional (albeit still limited) outdoor seating for those nice Seattle days. Staff is generally nice and the food comes out pretty fast even when they get busy during lunch. Definitely going to become a regular here.
google avatar

Lisa F.

Yelp
Really good sandwiches with high quality ingredients. It's a bit spendy for what it is and they don't make them quickly. Good for a once in awhile splurge when you aren't in a rush. Maybe I should investigate online ordering?
google avatar

Jaimie P.

Yelp
Good sandwiches and salads! I work across the street so I really appreciate that I can put an order in online and run over to grab your order. Food is fresh and tasty, my favorites are the the reign man and the chop chicken salad. Veggies are always super fresh which can be hit or miss at other lunch places in the area. Delicatus tends to be a little more expensive than I would typically spend on lunch but the food is such high quality that I don't mind.
google avatar

Bob D.

Yelp
Stopped for lunch the other day. I had a sandwich with roast beef, cheese, etc. Good sandwich, although the beef was quite salty for me (and I like salt). I like the Jones sodas as well. The staff is friendly as well!

Mark D.

Yelp
Best deli sandwiches in the greater Seattle area. My favorite is the Reuben and Pastrami sandwich. I order via Caviar.
google avatar

Tammy F.

Yelp
The food here is amazing. The customer service not so much. I placed an order online for delivery and was not able to change the bread type, I am allergic to sourdough. I called and talked to an employee who asked for my name and type of sandwich, she said that would not be a problem. I place my delivery (which had my name on it) the delivery gets here and it is sourdough. I call back and speak to the same person who basically tells me it is her bad because their delivery place does not print out the names and there was just too many sandwichs to change the bread on all of them but if I could come in they would make me a new one. If I could come in I would not have needed it delivered. What I am most upset about is I just spend 15$ on a sandwich that I cant eat. IF she had said next time you are able to make it in, I will have a credit for you that would have been one thing. I did everything right, you would think they could have also. To bad this location didn't close and the one on 1st had stayed open. I went there all the time and never had an issue.
google avatar

Baran C.

Yelp
The Rebel was awesome. Staff was kind and also asked my favorite song and played it. Thanks! (Bohemian Rhapsody btw lol)
google avatar

Dan P.

Yelp
Rude service, expensive sandwiches, the bread is weak and dry, and the owners are even worse. Never go here even for the bathroom or water. Subway makes better sandwiches and has better service and they are only a block away!
google avatar

Alvaro V.

Yelp
Great selection of cold cuts and different types of meats. They have an upper deck with TVs. Their sandwiches have clever names and they really satisfy. This is great for groups.

Scott C.

Yelp
Not a bad sandwich but not great. $16+ out the door for a sandwich + tip but no table service is just bananas. Maybe it's just seattle with its current booming economy but something isn't right here.
google avatar

Sue H.

Yelp
I've been hearing raves about this place for a while and finally got over there today. It was okay. I got a half sandwich and salad. The Reign Man was missing the onions that were supposed to be on it, and the roast beef was a bit tough and hard to chew. Tasted good, and the sourdough bread was fresh and wonderful, and the tomatoes were actually ripe, unlike most sandwich places. The house salad was smaller than I expected. Mostly organic field greens, more pepitas than goat cheese, and a salad dressing that was really spicy and unexpected. It overpowered the entire salad and was spicier than the horseradish aioli on the sandwich. There seemed to be a lot of movement behind the counter from multiple staff, but still a fair wait for the food with only one couple ahead of me. While I think the sandwich/salad combo at $8.95 was an okay price, I'm not sure if I'd go back when most of the full sandwiches are $11-$13. The Reign Man (which I got half of) says in the menu "could feed family of 7." Based on the half portion, I'd say it's a generous sandwich for 1 - it's not that big.
