The Best Desserts In America, According To Christina Tosi - The Infatuation

"“It's the chocolate cake that all other chocolate cakes are measured against. Whether or not it's the first chocolate cake that ever existed, it might as well be, because it is the icon. In Bake Club land, when I was like, ‘We gotta give people the best home chocolate cake ever,’ I was like, ‘Well, obviously there needs to be mayonnaise in it [like the one at Portillo’s]’ because mayonnaise has oil and sugar and salt and eggs. Theirs is moist, which, whether you like the word or not, when it comes to chocolate cake, that is an adjective that must exist in order for the chocolate cake for me to pass muster. It's layered. It's got amazing chocolate frosting. We just hilariously did a collaboration with them where we made a chocolate cake cookie, where it's the flavor of that cake, but in a dense fudgy chocolate cookie land with milk chocolate frosting pieces in it.”" - brennan carley

Google
Delice et Chocolat is a true gem. From the moment you walk in, you are instantly transported to a Parisian café. Their croissants are perfectly flaky and their cakes and tarts are as beautiful as they are delicious. And you cannot leave without trying the hot chocolate. Rich, velvety, and authentically French, it’s one of my most loved items on the menu. Whether you stop by for a morning latte, a leisurely lunch, or to pick up treats for a special occasion, everything at Delice is made with care, quality ingredients, and genuine hospitality. If you’re looking for the best French pastries, bread, and chocolates in the area, Delice is unmatched. A must-visit for anyone who loves exceptional food and the charm of a true neighborhood café.

Google
5/5 - Amazing pastries. Everything Ive tried here is great. Their almond croissant is amazing. Always come here when Im visiting from out of town. Drinks are solid as well.

Google
Was introduced to Delice & Chocolat at a recent art gallery holiday party. I'm hooked! Everything I tried tasted amazing. The desserts not only looked gorgeous but each melted in my mouth. The assorted cheese, meat, and wine pairings - perfection ! Look no further if you need to satisfy your sweet tooth or spoil your friends. I can't wait to go to the new shop in Wayne to try more delights!

We had our daughter's 15th birthday here. I called ahead to reserve the room and Christine was so helpful. Great experience, gorgeous delicious cake!! I would highly recommend.

Google
Delice et Chocolat has been an awesome spot for networking and connecting with other local professionals. The atmosphere is welcoming, the food is consistently great, and it’s a place that naturally encourages conversation and community. It’s quickly become a go-to location for bringing people together

Google
Truly scrumptious! Went with a friend to get some work done, and the atmosphere is perfect! We both ordered the Croque Monsieur and I also ordered a piece of fresh cake! Both were so fresh and tasted very homemade yet elevated.

Google
Had a fabulous meal at Délice et Chocolat today! A perfect bowl of lentil soup, fresh baguette, followed by a cappuccino and delicious Délice cake slice. This café is one of the most authentic French cafés outside of France itself, and the service is impeccable! Merci, Délice!!

Google
I visited today with my daughters and was very disappointed. The cold pumpkin spice chai was absolutely tasteless—just dirty ice water with no flavor at all. The hot pumpkin spice chai with almond milk was nothing like chai; it tasted like a cappuccino made with regular milk and gave me a tummy ache. The croissants were another letdown—not even close to real French croissants, just doughy and unpleasant. This place is seriously overrated and outrageously overpriced. We spent over $60 for 4 chai lattes and 6 croissants, which is a complete rip-off. Definitely not worth the price or the hype.

Yelp
So lucky to have the finest French pastries right here in Ardmore! This is the ultimate local café--great coffee, relaxed ambiance and gracious service. Come in, treat yourself to something special, and make new friends. It's all here!

Yelp
Their hot chocolate is my guilty pleasure. It might be one of the best hot chocolates I've ever had. Overall this is a cute little cafe with a lot of offerings. Their cake slices are super cute and their pastries, both sweet and savory, are delicious. I will say it's a bit pricey but ultimately it's worth it.

Yelp
A delightful new patisserie to enjoy in Wayne. Great service and nice airy cafe. I had a yummy slice of quiche and picked up some gorgeous treats to share with friends. There's also a coffee bar and other drinks but it's the tasty pasties that will win you over.

Yelp
Can we all collectively agree this is a '4 Star' place? That so desperately needs to be 5 Stars!? Today was "Get out of the apartment and have a cup of coffee day" and I refused to go into the city (Philadelphia). I got a lot of great suggestions but it is always so hard for the average commuter to get in the city to just enjoy a little quiet time. Steps in "Delice". I had a hankering for a French pastry and I got just that! My current obsession is spinach and feta croissant. I have a place within walking distance to where I live, but I needed a change of scenery. I wanted a moment to go to a charming cafe with hot coffee and tasty pastries. This was it. The staff were friendly (unlike the 3 places I left before I got here). They serve the tables which I was taken by. I was standing at the counter, hands open! Waiting! but my food was on the table! Very nice service. Very nice hosts. The treats were DELICIOUS! I think there is a menu somewhere but I am in heaven I'm staying for lunch! There is WiFi. They let me use my own cup, Nobody bothered me when I sat here for little over an hour. I am pleased. Oui! oui! I will be back!

Yelp
Very cute French inspired coffee/chocolate/pastry shop! We came in on the whim while waiting for friends to meet up for an event. My husband ordered a mocha while I ordered a cappuccino. We also got a cookie croissant (which is all the hype!) and a baked tart. The cappuccino was beautiful and tasted great. The cookie croissant was flakey and soft on the inside because of the cookie. My husband enjoyed this tart and coffee too! It's also very family friendly since a bunch of little families were also in there. Very cute fine! Would love to come back and hang out more when we are in the area.

Yelp
Pretty minimalistic inside. Pastries and cakes look delicious. My chai latte was okay, a bit lacking in flavor, seemed watery. Nice enough staff. I think the mid-afternoon energy was low.

Yelp
This review is more like 4.5 stars. I pass by this bakery often enough, but never had the opportunity to try. For my daughter's birthday I decided to order their Fiji cake (Coconut lime mousse, mango gelee, key lime center, ladyfinger, and an almond coconut base). I do have to say it was super delicious! My only complaint is that I had to call and make the order (online order would have been easier, but I do understand with custom cake it's better to directly talk to them). It was really difficult to communicate because of the noise level at the bakery. When I went into the bakery to also pick up some pastries (really delicious) I understood why the noise was so loud. I think the interior is built in a way where the noise just gets amplified. With a lot of conversations, little children crying, and espresso machine working it was very loud. Aside from the noise factor this is a legit French bakery!

Yelp
I might be grabbing a cafe au lait and a quiche Lorraine in Ardmore, PA when I come here. But if I sit at the right table and take my first sip or bite it feels like I'm transported directly to a cafe in Paris. It makes sense for a cafe founded by two brothers who came out of Grenoble. For casuals in need of a sweet pick-me-up and a damn fine cup of cup of coffee in the morning Delice Et Chocolat has you covered. But Francophiles in need of a damn fine Croque Monsieur and macarons will be able to sit down and bask in the attention to detail. Like most casuals, I had my first taste of Delice when I was grabbing a red eye on the go and I was also enticed to grab some delectable macarons. But upon first bite of their pistachio one and total devouring of their caramel macaron I started to note that greater detail that had me wanting more. And I got it in spades during my first lunch visit. While my Jambon Fromage sandwich might have been a touch drier than I would have liked, and my friend's quiche Lorraine made me more than a little jealous, I more than appreciated the incredible fresh baguette that the meat and cheese was sandwiched between, and I thought that it had a reasonable cheese and meat ratio. Alongside the fantastically fresh coffee, the other winner was the service which was spot-on and attentive despite it being a relatively packed and rainy Saturday afternoon. Toss in a fully stocked coffee and espresso bar that even makes a couple of smoothies and an impressive assortment of croissants, and there's plety of reasons to stop in and enjoy.

Yelp
Unless you are a light skin complexion you will not be treated fairly. As soon as I entered, an older lady with glasses grabbed the tip jar and placed it behind the counter. I am standing at the counter ready to place my order but somehow I become invisible. The older lady with glasses saw me but refused to take my order. She helped a woman who came behind me and a gentleman that came in after. Finally when I am the only one standing there she empties the tip jar and proceeds to start adjusting the croissants. I say hello, can I order? and she grudgingly took my order . It's strange because they have minorities working behind the counter, but maybe that is just for appearance. I am never returning here.

Yelp
Pretty much the only decent eatery and café in Wayne. While the prices are nothing special (they are about the same as any other business of its type), and while I cannot speak for the beverages (the tea is of slightly better quality than anywhere else I have had it), the food is. As the name implies, this is a French eatery. But this is not simply a marketing gimmick, not as far as I can tell: the pastries (including the cake) and the quiche are made of high quality ingredients and baked with expertise. The fruit raisins in the Raisin and Cream tart are not chunks of either near-tasteless or overpoweringly sour wrinkles like one would expect, but soft packets of flavor, with a texture midway to a boiled consistency, and just sour enough to complement the flaky buttery bread and smooth sweet cream. The various almond croissants are not bland dinner rolls with a curmudgeonly placed smidge of almond paste squirted into the middle of the pastry as if by accident. Rather, they are filled with the paste as one might spread warm butter upon fresh bread. On the outside, what seem to be chunks of a substance that tastes like almond paste jut out of the flaky crust, making the almond part of its name mean something without being overbearing, and adding to their various soft and hard, smooth and bumpy textures that both parallel and uplift one another. Even the plain croissant, usually offered in other cafes either out of obligation or to exaggerate the little flavor that the other offerings possess, is a treat to eat alone as it is appropriately buttery and flaky, akin to their more savory options, such as the ham and cheese, spinach feta, or leek parmesan croissants. They also offer soups and sandwiches which I have yet to try, but I am excited to sample, so confident am I in the ability and passions of their bakers and cooks. The ambience is also nicer than most other places. The outside of the eatery is unique but not gawdy, with a simple calligraphic sign, glass front, and a light green paint reminiscent of eaely 1900s Paris that is easy on the eyes (and even gets my appetite going for some reason). The interior is open with an impressive amount of seating considering its small size (compare this to many establishments, especially corporate ones, which seem to be reducing seating more and more every year), as people walk in and out to grab a couple of their pastries before they close around 4:00 everyday. Its walls are painted with the same green as the outdoors and are largely unadorned with the exception of a few mirrors and two lamps, all bordered and constructed with brass, that throw out the same soft pleasant light that the overhead bulbs do over at the bar. There is a counter with napkins, cream, straws, and sugar packets as you would find at a similar eatery, though with a bit more decor, featuring a white marble top with splotches of gray, a white flowery plant with green leave (the same plant hangs from the ceiling over by the front, which you may miss on your first visit if you are anything like me), and an old-fashioned radio (though it does not work as far as I can tell). The small tables that dot the margins of the shop feature a similar marble of thinner width with black metal legs of various designs whose weight makes for a sturdy, if somewhat cramped, table. The wooden chairs that accompany them are of a dark-brown color and, while not especially comfortable, suffice for awhile as the customer finishes their food and drink. Their color and wood complement the lighter wooden floor, which I find to be more welcoming than the typical tile found in many businesses these days. My sole criticism at this point is the lack of variety in their pastries, which I don't necessarily want to change. It would be nice to see a few other non-croissant options: imagine what they would do with a blueberry muffin or an eclair! Or they could introduce a French dessert that would be unfamiliar to most USAmericans to experiment with and expand our palettes. I hope to see this place thrive for a long time to come. I know that I will be eating here regularly as long as they remain.

Yelp
I tried their almond croissant and apple tart. The almond croissant wasn't too sweet, but the frangipane was a little too decadent for my taste. As for the apple tart, it was tangy and sweet, and the apples were fresh in contrast to the butteriness of the pastry. I'll definitely be back to try their other pastries in the future!

Yelp
The pastries are out of this world! Coffee and lattes are amazing. If there is quiche available, GET IT!

Yelp
I love all the cute little shops around Ardmore, and Delice Et Chocolat is no exception! It has a very neighborhood feel. The coffee and pastry selections are pretty large, and everyone enjoyed what they ordered. They also serve smoothies (which was a pleasant surprise!), and I really enjoyed mine that I got for breakfast. I would love to go back at some point and try the lunch food because the menu looked delicious. My only complaints would be that I wish there was more seating, but I understand it's not a huge space, and that the line can get very long as they only have one person working the front to take everyone's orders. Overall though, I would definitely go back! Food: N/A Drinks: A Service: B- Ambiance: B-

Yelp
Went in and it was empty, purchased a water and was kicked out for having a coffee from somewhere else after buying something. Two women working had very rude tones toward me and other customers. All questions seemed to annoy employees. Very overpriced. Overall terrible experience

Kerri P.

Yelp
Went with granddaughter and the guy and young lady behind counter were so pleasant and engaging! But it was the macarons and pain au chocolate that won us over! Everything we had was SO good that we got the spinach feta croissant, quiche and almond croissant to take home...and they were exceptional! This now our favorite place for Grandma and granddaughter to sit and chat with special treats!
google avatar

Michelle C.

Yelp
Every morning when I go into the office I stop here. The coffee is strong and if you know me, you know I love strong, bold, smooth coffee. The morning rush line can get a little long and sometimes the wait can be frustrating but..again, the coffee is good enough for me to practice my yoga breath instead of flipping out cause now I'm 15 minutes late for work instead of 10. It's also a great place to sit and work. Lots of seating option. I also go in on my lunch break for their caprese sandwich which I am also addicted to and yes I have to have a raisin pain or croissant with my coffee. They are like a bad, expensive habit because I shouldn't be eating pastries so much and 8 bucks for coffee and pastry, then 11 and change for lunch in a recession is going to bankrupt me.

Yelp
After traveling from France and experiencing the boulangeries and falling in love with the country I was on a hunt to find the best French bakery in PA. after some searching I found Delice egg Chocolate tucked away in Ardmore. I love the location due to its proximity to other restaraunts like Maman, Shake Shack as well as businesses like Soulcycle, Lululemon, Sephora , apple and Trader Joe's. They have a ton of different pastries but come early because they do go fast !!! I tried their cakes and have been a loyal member for years. I order a cake every year for birthdays , anniversaries and any occasions. My entire family and boyfriend love their cakes. They are freshly made with the best ingredients !

Yelp
In light of COVID-19, I appreciate everything this business is doing to keep afloat and be conscious of keeping everyone safe. I'd been craving macarons for weeks and I was about to just order some from very far away (like states away) when I discovered this place just a few miles from my house. They were taking phone and text orders for select meals as well as pastries, and it was as easy as coming in and paying! I ordered coffee, mango passionfruit, caramel, and earl grey macarons, and every single one was amazing. For $2 per cookie, they are an easy new favorite place and I wish them the best through this difficult time!

Yelp
I cannot believe I've been working in Ardmore for 3 years and have JUST finally experienced this *adorable* French cafe. To be fair, I've just become a parking expert to the area, and can honestly admit that's probably a huge reason why I've never paid a visit. The shop is super clean and HUGE! A great alternative to post up for a coffee meeting as opposed to Starbucks, which is always heavily populated. They serve your usual cafe beverage options: drip coffees, lattes, mochas, teas, flavored syrups, and even smoothies. I kept it simple and got a vanilla latte with almond milk. It was superb! And extra hot (just how I like it!) Additionally, there are tons of French nibbles and even vinaigrettes and othered bottle items to choose from. Great place to pickup a gift for those foodies in your life. I couldn't leave without a to-go back of treats. So I got the chocolate croissant and the apple turnover because it was just so pretty to look at in the case. The croissant was definitely my favorite of the two...but that's really just because I prefer the sweetness of chocolate over apple. I still suggest trying both! Can't wait to return (and most likely become a regular lol).
google avatar

Katie H.

Yelp
Food is 4+ stars but giving this a 3 star review because your tiny juice boxes are $4 which cost more than the croissants!! Wish they would have macaroons at 10:30am but didn't.
google avatar

Stephanie P.

Yelp
Love this place and how it is set up in the heart of Ardmore. Enjoyed each and every macaron I ordered. We practically inhaled them. The pan au chocolate did not disappoint either. There was plenty of chocolate for the chocolate lovers and the bread was flaky, just like mom's my kids said. Will definitely be coming back to pick up some more when in the area.
google avatar

Kimberly B.

Yelp
Handmade coffees set the stage for the beautifully prepared and decorated French pastries that line the glass display case. I hadn't been post pandemic until the other day when I walked by, and couldn't resist. Staff were super friendly and explained ingredients to the customer in front of me who was worried about food allergies. Although it was just my daughter and I, we got the spinach and cheese croissant (beautiful cross cross pattern, buttery flakey dough and well balanced filling ratio), the chocolate croissant (because why not) and the almond croissant (not dripping in shaved almonds, but the filling is perfect and didn't make me miss the almond crusted exterior I'm used to)

Rnda A.

Yelp
I love the place and their service the staff is amazing and welcoming always. I moved from Pa and this one of the places i will miss
google avatar

Yelp
We got our wedding cake from Delice et Chocolat. At our tasting we were able to try 6 different flavors and were also told we could ask for things off menu. We ended up ordering a hazelnut cake and a strawberry shortcake for our wedding and they did not disappoint. The hazelnut cake was decorated absolutely beautifully and tasted like a Ferrero Rocher. The strawberry shortcake was also presented nicely and tasted delicious. The cake was ready on time and prepared for transport to our venue. Several of our guests pulled us aside to tell us how good the cake was and we'd get cake from here again!
google avatar

Steve K.

Yelp
The macaroons are unbelievable, we arrived just as they were starting to close for the day, I can't wait to come back and give some of their delicious pastries a try.
google avatar

John S.

Yelp
They have excellent coffee and probably one of the better cappuccinos in the area. They have a very nice bakery French in style Expanded sitting area as well as exterior cafe type seating

M G.

Yelp
authentic french cafe with delicious pastry offerings, soups and sandwiches. The best hot chocolate I ever had. I try to go as often as I can.
google avatar

Carla R.

Yelp
Food was good. Staff was totally indifferent, to the point of rudeness. Difficult to get waited on. Chairs were not comfortable, and I am not a large-sized person. Interior design was not horrible, but not warm or inviting either. Probably will not go back. There are other excellent restaurants, bistros in that aea.

Tere S.

Yelp
Incredibly pastries and more! Friends take their goodies back to Europe. They're that good!!!
google avatar

Victoriya H.

Yelp
I enjoy this places. Flakey croissants. Sandwiches are pretty good and quiche is absolutely delicious. Atmosphere is quite casual. Few outdoor tables during warmer months.
google avatar

Yelp
Best almond croissants I have had in my life. Love this place. Every time I have to get my car serviced I look forward to it since it involves a visit here
google avatar

Yelp
Lives up to the name! Very elaborate pastries that are the best in Ardmore. Pretty high prices, but that's to be expected. Reminded me of France in a lot of ways. I got one of their signature cake things- don't recall the name- but it was excellent. Will be back! Has parking.
google avatar

Jessy S.

Yelp
Croissants? Voted best in the City (and yet this place is not within City limits). THAT's how amazing they are. Slightly crunchy on the outside while fluffy inside. Heavenly. All their items are true delicacies. I spoke with the friendly owner once and told him how in Paris I had enjoyed this wonderful dish. After I described it, he said, "We make that here for you!" Without flying to CDG, I was taken there with each bite. Perfect! Super friendly and attentive staff. Make sure to sit outside and face Lancaster (like a Parisian).
google avatar

J'anna M.

Yelp
The chocolates are so good here that after I bought 1 box for my boyfriend, we went back and bought about 5 more boxes of chocolates for other people just so they could taste how good they were. My sister said they were the best she's ever had and that's the truth!
google avatar

Magnolia M.

Yelp
Super cute. Great coffee selections like drip, iced, cappuccino, cortado, etc. I tried the spinach with feta pastry and iced coffee. I'm really glad I stopped in and will be back!

Tanya W.

Yelp
I came here today, Sunday, August 20, to spend some quality time with my daughter before she heads back to college. We were really looking forward to it, but ended up having a miserable time instead. When my daughter and I went up to the counter to order, the man at the register took my daughter's order and completely ignored me as if I did not exist. Then I spent the next 15 or 20 minutes waiting for an iced latte I paid for while I watched three or four other customers receive their drink orders. Presumably, if I had not complained, my drink would never have been brought out. My daughter's sandwich consisted of three skinny pieces of mozzarella served on stale baguette bread. It was topped with wilted lettuce and a tasteless hothouse tomato along with a thin smear of pesto. For this pathetic sandwich, we paid $11.00. In sum, the food was poor and overpriced. The service was rotten. The waitstaff was at best apathetic, and at worst passive aggressive. We will not be back, and I encourage all to take their business elsewhere.
google avatar

Meryl L.

Yelp
After hearing about Delice et Chocolat from my mom for weeks, we finally made our way over to the Le Bec Fin Alums café for breakfast while I was in town for a visit. Since it's easy to realize parking can be an issue at that corner of Lancaster we walked from home. We each got a pastry and latte setting us back about $16. A little pricey, but this is the Mainline. She got the croissant while I devoured the spinach filled flakey goodness. I'd suggest asking them to warm it up in the toaster for a minute. They seem to have already built quite a reputation in the neighbor as it was not quiet. Many enjoying their cup of coffee and sitting in their computers working while others going to the back bakery to pick up orders. The staff was friendly and the pastries were fresh and delightful. This is certainly a welcome addition to the neighbor and I'll definitely be back for a sampling of Antoine Armani's deserts. I remember when his chocolate shop closed in Norristown but thrilled to see him back out in this joint venture with his brother.

Sheryl G.

Yelp
Delicious pastries and solid coffee. Courteous service. Beautiful desserts. A gem in the neighborhood.
google avatar

Elizabeth S.

Yelp
Definitely one of my "to go" cafes on the Main Line. Everything I've had has been great. My favorite is the Nutella Strawberry Crepe. The macaroons are also really yummy, and so is the coffee. I only give it four stars because ordering and picking up food can be confusing. You have to go to the counter to pick up food and it can be confusing which is your food and which is someone else's. Tip: Get there early to have the best assortment of pastries and macaroons. There isn't much left in the afternoon.

Jessica Q.

Yelp
EXCELLENT FOOD. Very kind welcome . Perfect place to relax for a two hour ladies lunch-- and that's exactly what we did. J'adore cet endroit!

Michelle C.

Yelp
I am not one to express negativity during this process, however it was both irritating and frustrating to walk into this location and find myself ignored when I am attempting to try your product or services. I found myself standing at the counter waiting for another customer to complete their order, just an aside, I stand 6feet 2inches and 260 pounds, not exactly invisible. No hello, I will be with you, just a moment sir, hang on buddy we are busy; four people behind the counter no one looked my way. NEVER GOING BACK
google avatar

Benjamin R.

Yelp
My wife is French, her family is French, and I enjoy French baker goods. This bakery, forgive me for this, delivered the goods. While they didn't have an expansive collection of cakes available, I bought two of the three and they were both delicious, if very different. One was chocolate, one was fruity. Both were excellent, as was the berry and cheese danish I bought. Would definitely recommend.

Christian C.

Yelp
Upon entering this place there was no greeting... When i asked for a descripton of what flavors and content of gift box of choclates ... the nice counter person had no clue ... Nor did any of her coworkers ... These people should have some idea of what they are selling because of food allergies... Absolute disgrace !

Yelp
After hearing rave reviews about Delice et Chocolat, I finally was able to swing by. Though the weather was gloomy, Delice's interior was warm and inviting, with whimsical macaron window displays plentiful seating spread across the cafe and bakery sections of the shop. Unfortunately, since it was late afternoon on a weekend, they were sold out of most items. (We had been warned by our friend that Delice often completely sells out, so we were just happy there was anything left at all!) We ended up with a strawberry mousse cake and a tiramisu ($5/ea). The lady behind the counter was attentive, friendly, and careful in packing up the cakes. Both cakes were absolute winners - the tiramisu had all the flavors of a traditional tiramisu, but was presented in such a beautiful French style that really elevated the dessert. The strawberry mousse was a bit sweet for me (definitely catered more for the American sweet tooth), but the fresh fruit flavors really shone through and again, the cake had a lovely presentation. The lady who helped us informed us that the pastry chef is from France (and we got to peek into the kitchen to see the pastry team hard at work whipping up more macarons), and the high level of training really shows in each stunning pastry. Will definitely have to find an excuse to stop by again and try some of their other cake flavors!

Yelp
Excellent food, coffee, and pastries. Very cute inside as well if you're going to sit down and eat here.

Yelp
The croissants, cakes and macarons are first-rate. French pastry par excellence! C'est si bon!

Yelp
Best croissants, especially the almond. Always the same high standard baking and service. Easy parking and great hours. Great business. Congratulations!
