Yelp
Although The Retreat by Dellz Daughter is fairly new, it's a great spot for plant-based dishes in Charleston. I've reviewed Dellz businesses under several business names, and it's bounced around from Charleston to North Charleston to James Island and now, to West Ashley. Between the salads, tacos, wraps, jazzy pizzas, and chocolate chip cookies, I've enjoyed everything I've eaten.
This location opened for to-go orders for a short time in 2020, then closed and reopened in 2021 when COVID-19 cases were declining. You can order online at dellzville.com, and pick up your order at the window outside. I'm honestly not sure if they're open for dine-in, but I'm a takeout fan lately due to the ongoing pandemic.
I had the shrimp tacos, which consisted of two tacos, a side order of chips, a side of Dellz sauce, and a small slice of pineapple- for garnish and a sweet snack. My tacos weren't quite ready when I arrived, but I sat on the porch and enjoyed the free WiFi until they were. My food was packaged in a plastic container and the tacos were wrapped in aluminum foil that kept them warm until I got home to eat them.
The tacos were bursting with flavor from all the ingredients- shrimp, salsa, guac, black beans, and rice. The side of Dellz sauce had a srirachi swirl and is spicier than it looks, so use it sparingly at first. I used the chips to scoop up the toppings that escaped the soft taco shells and dip (sparingly) into the Dellz sauce. The tacos are $13.50, a fair price for quality, healthy food.
If you're vegan, vegetarian, or pescatarian, Dellz has tons of options for you, and you can eat most things on the menu. For meat eaters, they do offer shrimp as well as "real" chicken, but the flavors revolve around plant-based ingredients. Even to-go, the food is packaged beautifully, like a work of art.
The branding/name is confusing, and you have to do some internet searching to eat here. The restaurant's sign says Dellz, Facebook search yields several outdated pages, the Instagram handle is @eatdellz, and the website is called Dellzville. However, once you figure it out, you'll be impressed with the plant-based cuisine and excellent value for the money.
