The Back Bay Lunch Guide

"Deluca’s smells delicious. But it isn’t any one particular thing that will have you wandering around looking at expensive cheeses on your lunch break. The smell is the result of serving as the specialty grocery store for people who live in Comm Ave condos and hire dog-walkers for over a hundred years. The sandwich counter in the back is a great option for classic deli sandwiches and Italian subs." - dan secatore

DeLuca’s Market - Review - Back Bay - Boston - The Infatuation

"Deluca’s on Newbury Street is one of those ancient specialty grocery stores that looks like it could be the setting for a holiday movie meet-cute, where the protagonists argue over the last jar of wasabi honey. There’s a decent sandwich counter in the back where you can get quality deli sandwiches for under $10, which makes it one of the more affordable lunch options in a 10-block radius. If you like big, traditional Italian subs, this place is for you." - Dan Secatore

The sandwiches are absolutely delicious and very reasonably priced. I got a veggie sandwich for 10 dollars! Will definitely return :)

II’ve walked by DeLuca’s on Newbury many times but had never stopped in until recently. It’s a charming market in the heart of the city with an impressive selection of subs + sandwiches. With the weather being so warm last weekend, my partner and I thought a cold sub would be the perfect lunch. You can either build your own or choose from a variety of specialty sandwiches, both hot and cold. I opted to build my own on ciabatta—and let me just say, it was delicious. Everything was fresh and flavorful. I’ll definitely be coming back. It’s great to have a spot like this right on Newbury. If you're out shopping and need something quick and delicious, this place is worth a visit!

Google
Went here for a wine tasting this evening and one worker was nice to me and accommodating the others acted like I shouldn’t be there even when I purchased an overpriced $15 sandwich. I wasn’t spending any more money in there. It’s clear who they cater to. I will never return.

DeLuca’s Market at 239 Newbury Street, located right at the corner of Exeter Street in the heart of the Back Bay, offers a perfect blend of historic charm and gourmet excellence. Just a short walk from the Apple Store, it’s a fantastic spot to grab a bite or stock up on premium groceries—especially since the Apple Store doesn’t offer food to fuel your shopping adventures! This location carries on the legacy of Boston’s oldest grocery store, established in 1905, with the same commitment to quality that has made its Beacon Hill counterpart a beloved institution. The deli counter here is a standout, renowned for its fresh, made-to-order sandwiches and top-notch service. Whether you’re stopping in for a quick, satisfying lunch or picking up charcuterie for a picnic at the Public Garden, the staff’s friendliness and attention to detail elevate the experience. Beyond the deli, DeLuca’s is a treasure trove of gourmet delights. The carefully curated selection of premium wines, artisan cheeses, and high-quality meats is ideal for food lovers and entertainers alike. You’ll also find a range of kitchen essentials perfect for everyday cooking or hosting a special gathering. With its prime location near the Prudential Center, Copley Square, and just steps from the Apple Store, DeLuca’s Market is the perfect destination for those looking to combine history, convenience, and culinary indulgence. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, this Back Bay gem offers an elevated grocery and dining experience that’s quintessentially Boston.

Google
Definitely stop by to grab a sandwich, and don't sleep on their pressed ones. Had the pesto chicken and it was amazing 👏

Sandwiches are fantastic, fresher, bigger, and cheaper than any of the chains!

Yelp
It's come to my attention that it isn't entirely out of character for me to eat a cold, vinegary Italian grinder first thing in the late morning. While Boston in the early springtime may be less forgiving for deli meats and pickles than sunny SoCal, DeLuca's Market came recommended by two (formerly) Boston-based colleagues, and with just enough time for one quick bite before heading to the airport, it was officialized amongst the core priority of our less than 48 hours in Boston. Aside from its well-schooled deli counter (everything, including the bread, was fresh) Deluca's is a mf vibe for those lucky enough to live around here; boasting produce, fresh flowers, boutique wine labels, and a curated shelves full of the pantry standards and specialty groceries. Short on time and our luggage at capacity, there was too much to take in/take home for this brief pit stop (they literally have their own branded label of root beer and orange soda). But seeing people naturally passing through here on their Sunday morning rounds affirmed to me the vicarious joy of idling/absorbing in the temporary bliss of existence. Good sandwiches slow down time, but great sandwiches contain and preserve it.

Yelp
First, the employee who made my sandwich today did not wear gloves. Now, the sadder part. Over the last decade and a half, I have picked up sandwiches from Deluca's Market (either in Back Bay or Beacon Hill) at least 100 times, probably closer to 150. It has been one of my go-tos to grab a quick, reasonably priced sandwich to eat on a bench on Commonwealth, the esplanade, or Boston Common. They also have a few tables outside their store on Newbury. This year, they've raised their prices from $10 to $15 for a sandwich ($16 with tax). Now, these sandwiches aren't bad. But, they are basic sandwiches. We're talking grocery store cold cuts on grocery store bread. The type of sandwich that you could easily make at home in 3 minutes if you wake up in the middle of the night and want a snack. The french long roll that they use comes from Piantedosi bakery, which is a classic Boston-area staple. It's pretty good. The sub itself has a moderate amount of filling and measures 8 inches long. Being in measurement mode, I also weighed the half that I brought home. It weighed ~8 ounces, so a full sandwich is probably about a pound. It's pretty filling and, if you're not that hungry, it's easy to split for a light picnic with a bag of chips or side of your choice. Still, it's not a $15 sandwich. At that price point, you're approaching some really excellent sandwiches to be found around the city. It's the type of thing that you make at home with cold cuts that you pick up from an average grocery store. This brings me to my next point. There is a large grocery store about a quarter of a mile away (behind Dick's off of Boylston) that makes 12 inch subs on Piantedosi rolls, using Boar's Head cold cuts, including roast beef, for $10. Beyond that, there are so many other places in the area with options in the $15 range that make better and/or more interesting food. There's an outside chance that I will come back at some point out of nostalgia, but probably not. Sad to see this change in a place that I've been fond of visiting for quite some time.

Yelp
I got the track turkey sandwich and the Deluca banh mi. They both were so yummy and I would go back to get it again! It is arouns $14 per sandwich but I found it filling and worth the money. There was a small line in the store when ordering but not too bad. I always walked by this place on Newbury but glad I stopped in to try!

Yelp
We stopped in here by chance and were pleasantly surprised! The interior is magical, and as someone who has been to Italy it's almost like you're there. So many interesting goodies in the store section, very European. The sandwiches were fresh and probably some of the best deli sandwiches I've ever had. The outdoor seating was cute and scenic, and the service was friendly. I don't know if I'll be back but I'd like to try some of the snacks and things like that.

Yelp
Cute little grocery store in the middle of Newbury St. While doing some shopping in Boston we needed a quick pick me up and didn't want to go to far. Deluca's allowed us to get water and a snack amongst all the really pricey eateries that are on the block. There was a nice assortment of your everyday needs and then specialty wine and cheese. The staff was so so, attentive but not overly friendly which I didn't mind. There's flowers and pumpkins lined up outside so it reminded me of many neighborhood grocery stores that I'm used to seeing in NYC. Stop by if you're in the area, I think they do sandwiches too!

Yelp
My friend and I stopped in Deluca's to get some newbury shopping fuel and the sandwiches here did just the trick! The market is quaint and cute to shop around. The sandwiches are hefty and reasonably priced ($9-12), which is great casual alternative to some of the more expensive sit down restaurants on newbury. I really enjoyed the Italian - it was flavorful, moist, and filling! It was the perfect spot to grab a delicious bite, rest our feet for a bit, and people watch on the outdoor patio seating before resuming our day!

Yelp
I've got zero problems with Deluca's, but you need to set your expectations right. It's a bodega on Newbury, so you're not exactly getting bargain, everyday provisions. It's a convenient stop when you need a few ingredients, or if you're looking for a nice sandwich. They've also got an entire liquor department downstairs, which I discovered when shopping for a bag of ice (hot tip: they sell that too, you must go downstairs). I've been in a few times, and have also eaten from the deli counter in back. I ordered a roast beef sandwich and had the pleasure of having a nice, generously portioned (and priced accordingly) sandwich on their mini front patio area. You could grab a local apple or a drink and round out the experience. There's nothing to grab you by the collar and say whoa, you need to try this place out. But that's kind of the point--it's a small bodgea with simple offerings that serves the neighborhood.

Yelp
Stopped in here to grab a sandwich to go and was pleasantly surprised. I got the Italian on a wheat wrap. It was fresh and flavorful.

James G.

Yelp
They have signs outside offering breakfast sandwiches except these sandwiches are disgustingly microwaved for 3 minutes then handed to you on an awful bagel. Is it really that hard to turn on a griddle and cook a real egg? Won't understand why a place that probably pays thousands of dollars to lease on newbury street, has a horrible deli and is still open. Would give zero stars if possible.

Sam S.

Yelp
Spent ~$18 for a water, mini bag of chips, and the smallest buffalo chicken wrap i've ever seen (photo included next to water for reference, both halves were this size). Chicken was dry, and i'm pretty sure it was literally just chicken, lettuce, and red hot. Disappointing lunch stop.

Yelp
I don't know why this place has been rated poorly in the past, I went to grab a bite on Newbury Street and saw that Deluca's was one (if not the only) deli around there. Ordered the Deluca's Famous which consisted of Roast Beef and Provolone Cheese, my girlfriend got an Italian. You get to choose what bread you want it on, the spread, and then any vegetables you'd like. The service was fast and easy to work with. The actual sandwich was good for the price you're paying (under $10) and the location. I would say it's a pretty darn good option for a quick bite. Overall a very good experience and will definitely consider Deluca's in the future when I'm in that area.

Amanda B.

Yelp
Beware! They have drastically increased their sandwich prices due to the tariffs because they import their meat. I order sandwiches from here a lot but I was shocked to see the $14 price for a turkey sub which only a few months ago was $9.50! I get that they are forced to do this out of necessity, but from now on I'll be getting my hoagies elsewhere.

Yelp
lived in Boston for over a year but visited every year. after moving to backbay, delucas has become one of my favorite spots for sandwiches/pastas. I'm not sure why they have 3 stars for $$$ as I found it completely reasonable for their sandwiches/freshnesses. (what like maybe 10$, but toppings are included with your fresh meat, lol). you can choose what kind of bread(think there's 4 or 5 options?), I unfortunately only been 5-6 times, all at the end of the day so I understand they might be out of a specific loaf of bread, but I think that's a testament to its quality and freshness. sandwich's are full of meet and add toppings. Also, you can eat outside of the market too, nice ambiance to it. also, the people are friendly, just ask what you're looking for. Again, I only really have been for sandwiches and pasta salads 4/5, would be 5/5 but I'm just sad I haven't been earlier time and missed on certain items that they ran out on

Bishma T.

Yelp
Sandwich was good. Some interesting finds. Staff was rude, both times I was there. Mid ambiance.
google avatar

Nick K.

Yelp
So far I've had the Italian & the Deluca's Famous roast beef. The sandwiches are so good and one of the cheapest lunch options on newbury street. I'll probably eat every sandwich on the menu, so I'll update my rankings list later! For now - the roast beef with horseradish Mayo is my favorite!

Andrea G.

Yelp
Walked in to look for a quick lunch, looked around and marched right out empty handed. Everything looks awful
google avatar

Allegra P.

Yelp
Great sandwiches at decent prices. The rest of the store has many imported goods, expensive luxury items, and the biggest selection of chocolate I've ever seen. Just a great place to look around and explore, it's jam packed inside! Even when the line is out the door it only takes 15 minutes to get a sandwich during lunch rush. Check out is smooth too.

Donald T.

Yelp
Made to order subs and wraps are super good and staff is very friendly. Gluten free bread and wraps available and the gluten free chicken ceasar wrap was amazing!

Claire S.

Yelp
I would say the four dollar signs can only be attributed to the imported goods/groceries. The sandwiches are all $11, which is super reasonable considering you can't even get McDonalds for under $11 these days. My sandwich was EXACTLY the deli sandwich I was craving. Also the staff are super friendly! Very welcoming.

Yelp
I got the Italian on a long French roll. Honestly the sandwich was just okay. Nothing special at all. Pretty disappointed. I'd rather go to subway next time.
google avatar

Crissy M.

Yelp
Local deli and market that's been in that neighborhood for years. They're subs and well priced and generously portioned. Hit them up.
google avatar

Yelp
I loved the sandwich from here. Speedy service and also plenty of snacks to grab to complete your lunch.

Yelp
I was in the newbury st. area looking for a cheap, quick bite. The areas is littered with plenty of expensive dine-in options, so I didn't have any option that fit the criteria. Luckily, a friend referred me to Deluca's for their sandwiches. I was please with the quality of the sandwich and I look forward to going back and trying more sandwiches.

Yelp
A neighborhood gem of a market that has been around for over 100 years that is still family operated going 'Boston' strong. DeLuca's looks a like an Italian market & Bodega mixed into one offering fresh fruit, produce, meat, gourmet bread, cheeses. It could also be dubbed as a spirits store with the enormous selection of beer, wine & liquor cellar. Sharing a little history: During the Prohibition era Deluca's was the Beacon Hill's area go to store that had a frequent customer by the name of President John F. Kennedy. The cashier informed me that Deluca's offers online ordering for convenience. After selecting your fresh fruit & veggies from the sidewalk displays, you can go inside & find just about anything from a bag of chips to a can of Caviar to fresh bulk items. & with all the inventory the market is still easy to get around in. For my two oranges, two apples & a bottle of wine was less than $20.
google avatar

Alexandra S.

Yelp
This market reminds me of some of the "superettes" you find in NYC...small spaces with narrow aisles and jam packed with groceries and deli items. I tend to come here when I have an appointment at my hair salon which is right across the street. I pop in for a bottle of sparkling water and maybe a little nosh like fruit or cheese. (My hair appointments can be long so I go prepared). I suppose if I lived in the neighborhood I would be glad to have this market so conveniently located right in the midst of Newbury Street. I could see this being a handy last minute option if a grocery item was needed in a hurry. But the prices are high so this is more of a pit stop and not a grocery shopping destination. They do sell wine here which you'll find by going downstairs and that is a convenience. They have a deli counter too with a menu listing many kinds of sandwiches, assorted cold cuts and salads. There is space outside with tables and chairs which might be pleasant if the tables weren't practically falling apart. I did have a momentary sit-down out there recently and the only charming thing about it was the incredibly tame and friendly sparrow who wanted me to share my cheese; a request I happily obliged. I don't find the staff to be at all friendly. Attempts at small talk at the register are typically ignored. The store itself a bit messy and overall the feel is that it may have seen better days. This place is fine in a pinch and nothing more.
google avatar

Jude S.

Yelp
** My witch store. ** I think most things are $$$, but really good quality. I like to buy my infused honeys, local jam, Kambucha, maple syrup, cold brew, and homeopathic teas and mints here. Sometimes when guests are coming it's nice to get some sugar cubes, or spiced honey, for morning tea or coffee (if you're more of a cocktail/wine person there's a cellar downstairs and lots of fun cocktail ingredients upstairs). Staff is usually stand off ish, but 4 stars for openness after 8pm on a Friday and quality local ingredients.
google avatar

Pam C.

Yelp
Deluca's is ... just ok. I came here quite a bit because it was the only "grocery store" across the street from me when I was too lazy to walk to the Prudential. The inside has a quaintly crammed vibe, and they sell a lot of imported foods, crackers, chocolates, cheeses and meats. I think this place caters to the glamorous life I imagined for myself when I moved into Back Bay, filled with charcuterie parties and wine tastings with my friends, and not the cup ramen life I actually live. That being said, there are some cool gems here and they especially have an interesting selection of candies and chocolates to try out. They also have some very necessary staples (sugar, cream, milk, cheese) if you are ever in a situation where you are in a pinch. Large wine cellar in the back as well as a pretty good sandwich bar with reasonably priced sandwiches (~$8). However, other than the sandwich deli, most of the grocery items are extremely overpriced, especially since Star Market and Trader Joe's are both literally a block away.
google avatar

Leo W.

Yelp
This is my favorite market in Boston. Yes, it's a little pricey, but we're talking a local market on Newbury that has great sandwiches and a fantastic beer collection. Also the staff there is great and always very helpful. Prices really aren't that had considering the surrounding locations. Sandwiches are around $8 and they're hand made and customizable. Across the street sandwhiches average for $15 from whichit and that place has dropped in quality.
google avatar

Sam D.

Yelp
This place is only good if you live in the area and forgot something at the grocery store. Multiple times they have sold me something that was expired, and the person working behind the counter told me that they're not allowed to tell someone if the food is expired because the management just wants it to sell.
google avatar

Taylor F.

Yelp
Solid deli sandwiches is all I can speak to here. It's pricey on the grocery items but if you want a solid Turkey, Italian, or Roast Beef this is THE spot for you. Classic Deli sandwich for under $10. Much much better than Back Bay Sandwich.
google avatar

Jon H.

Yelp
you know what? i only go here so that i can escape work by walking down here when the weather is nice outside, takes about 20 minutes each way, so we go down, get a pretty good sandwich, chips, and a soda for ridiculous $13, eat in the sun, and retreat to our sad offices on Berkeley. Delcua's, thank you for offering me some escape and sanity in the world. But everything in your store is grossly overpriced.
google avatar

Peter D.

Yelp
It's certainly a bit overpriced for a glorified gourmet bodega, but Deluca's did carry the olives we were looking for, as well as a sizable selection of other edibles. The store is a bit cramped, and much more so because we had to navigate around a chocolate tour of some kind (they've got tons of Taza). However, I'm particularly grateful because we desperately needed those olives. After all, it's uncouth to get inappropriately drunk in front your family. Unless you do it on martinis. Then it's classy.
google avatar

Ann L.

Yelp
Since we were staying at Newbury Guest House & this place was on the way I stopped in. It's a small shop crammed with stuff and narrow aisles. I got a bottle of Pellegrino Sparkling Water for $2.5 - price was not marked, had to ask the cashier & he scanned it. Also got a plastic bottle of McLure's blueberry honey 12 oz for $4.69 - easy to carry in my checked luggage. Alcoholic drinks downstairs to buy - didn't go down there though. Credit cards taken.
google avatar

Pharaoh A.

Yelp
Went here for some post-workout snacks on a Sunday afternoon. I greeted a gentleman stocking inventory and got a stare in response. Okay. Picked up some cherries and walked to the back of the store with Mr. MeanMug tailing close behind. Cool. As I made my way to the register to pay for my $16 cherries, his eyes stayed tight on me. Look, I get that my presence as a mid-twenties black man makes folks nervous, but I prefer my grocery shopping without a side of racism. Delucca can miss me with his sub-par food.
google avatar

Tanisha G.

Yelp
If I could give my experience 0 stars I would. I work right next to this place on Newbury street and come here often. Today I walked in with my boyfriend who was on the phone while I shopped. The store owner (I think) or some tall white man behind the counter followed us around the entire store and kept checking on just us (the only black people in the store at the time). He continuously asked if we were ok and stayed right behind us while we shopped. After feeling uncomfortable about the entire situation we left. I will never be coming back here again! Awful treatment of a regular customer!
google avatar

Deniz W.

Yelp
There are so many authentic products here for anyone wanting to cook for an international cuisine. Today, I found bulgur for $4.69 ($5.99 at Star Market, non-existant everywhere else) and dried mint leaves (Whole Foods people made me feel crazy for asking for an herb they did not carry). I used to also buy dried fruit here but I decided I don't need that indulgence anymore. They have the best variety and prices for these delicacies as well. My usual trip to Newbury is to stop at Wired Puppy and get a Puppy Love and then come in here to get a pound of the ready to eat goodness in the deli counter. I've been doing this for a while now and it is still so special to me. I adore the idea of shopping in Boston's oldest grocery store for delicacies and running over to Trader Joe's for everything else.
google avatar

Kathleen C.

Yelp
I was torn on this place. I was looking for a spot after shopping on Newbury St. where I could buy wine for dinner. This seemed to be one of the only spots. It's sort of dingy and packed to the gills with food! It took me a minute to figure out the wine cellar was in the basement, but once I got down there, I thought it was pretty cute...until I found that relatively popular wine varietals weren't in stock...I was just looking for a pinot grigio since that's what my sister requested...but there were hardly any! There were plenty unique wines and wines from many regions, but for some reason, Italian whites weren't quite as well represented. Prices were ok, but the selection seems somewhat haphazard.
google avatar

Pam S.

Yelp
Was looking for a cool place to pick up something to bring home from Boston for my friend and we strolled into this place. I have to preface this by saying I am a Gourmet Grocery Store snob... my Catering career started at "J. Bildner's and Sons" Boston's first REAL gourmet grocery store from back in the 80's. This place is compact and has a LOT of unusual items which come in handy if you are cooking a unique meal. I went back to the deli but I wasn't impressed by what was in the counter. If you find yourself on Newbury St. try it out or if you live in the area and want something you can't find at Shaws I think this place might be it for you. Also produce looked fresh. Respectfully Reviewed

Yelp
Quaint space in this small-town market in the big city on Boston's famed Newbury Street. They pack a lot of variety here, for such confined space. Convenience store goods and reduced-size products for nearby apartment dwellers running in for a quick something. Great building with ample character, and you're sure to find something unique in these tight aisles on terrifically creaky old floorboards. We picked up a Deluca's brand Seedless Red Raspberry Jam that was quite good. Could not say the same for the sandwiches, unfortunately. Would not go there for sandwiches next time, especially when we know of outstanding 'wiches just down the street at another non-chain cafe. Good enough for a stop-in for any number of other snacks, though, and anytime we can support these long-timers, we will. (Please note: One of my pics says Boylston Street, but it is actually NEWBURY Street, and Yelp does not seem to allow us to edit our own photo descriptions. Sorry!)

Yelp
Great variety in international things like cheese, sauces and coffee; love the location, very small and kind of cramped. The subs are great for a person who loves D&W's deli, very fresh and flavorful, they do a great job packing them too. For the money it's quite a steal honestly, the people are fairly nice and usually helpful. My only annoyance is how outdated their store and technology is; had a bad experience where their machine broke mid-transaction and caused an issue with my bank account. The manager (I'm assuming it was him..) was really unapologetic and frustrated he had to handle the situation and the cashier felt it was my fault, like I had a faulty card...Um, no? Been going here for years, never had that happen. After a few maddening attempts, they came to the conclusion the machine was busted and finally I was so frustrated I asked for a refund. I didn't trust them, took too long and I had to show him my bank statement that I was charged at all. Like really? It was very uncomfortable showing my online banking to the entire staff; that's cool. Otherwise, mediocre experience. My note to the business owner: you're on Newbury street, you offer great things, I can't imagine why you're not updating your business model a bit? Your machines are literally from the 90s; get with the times, most people pay via cards rather than cash, this shouldn't be happening. I feel very uncomfortable and probably won't be returning for a while, didn't appreciate being treated strangely for something that wasn't my fault.

Yelp
Best sandwich on earth. I just get a turkey sandwich but wow the bread is so fresh, such good quality deli meats and reasonably priced. In and out in 5 min

Yelp
Although this location is not as awesome as the other location, it still hits you where it counts. Right in the tummy, so warm and yummy. Sandwich of choice is $5.99, I went for the sub roll (just so it would be bigger) and Genoa Salami, Pastrami, Muenster and all the trappings (including hots). How do they do it? Every time I go here it is so perfect, I consistently have the best sandwich in town here every single time I go in. They put as many of the ingredients as you want on there. I've never gotten greedy and actually ordered like 7 meats, but I assume they might actually do it. I just wouldn't go and ruin my flavor like that. This one seems darker and not as rich bastardy as the one on Charles, and they don't have a guy playing the piano. *pouty lip* Do they have Bueno bars? Do they? Oh YES (!!!) they do, they have Bueno bars so much you'll die happy. I bought some for my roommate to remind her to cry at night because she doesn't live in Scotland anymore.

Yelp
This joint is questionanble. I used to frequent the Newbury location during my lunch break and I learned three things: 1- Don't expect service with a smile 2- Don't expect consistancy with their deli sandwiches 3- Don't expect reasonable prices. Additionally, I was concerned about the freshness of their products including produce. I purchased 5 plums and only 2 or 3 of them were edible. Items in the salad bar are generally on their way out but are still served. This is not the place to do your grocery shopping. All in all, I would prefer walking a few more blocks to the Trader Joes or Shaws for my household needs. Sure, they are more 'commercial' than Deluca's, but at least their freshness and cleanliness is upheld.

Deluca's Back Bay just ordered CLOSED by Boston Inspectional Services for the following health violations: 1. Caught REMOVING food items from the fire-damaged Beacon Hill store and placing them for sale in the Back Bay store. 2. Improper temperature of items at the prepared foods counter in the back. 3. Many minor violations See http://www.cityofboston.gov/isd/health/mfc/viewinsp.asp?inspno=137191 for official report. Shame on them! Despite living a block away and being a frequent customer will never patronize again. Sneaking food out of the fire location in a yellow truck and selling it is just grossly inexcusable.

Yelp
For the past few weeks I have gone into Deluca's on Newbury street. Each time A short stocky cashier constantly with head down on his phone unavailable and disinterested when I asked him if he had an item. While most people in the covid environment might be grateful to have a job....I am Surprised by his lack of interest in being present in his job. He seems to not know or care what what it's in stock.

Yelp
I'm sick of buying food at either the Newbury St. or the Charles St. location only to notice it's already gone bad while still on my way home. The heads of garlic I bought today are shriveled and rotting. Foul and disgusting and, at these prices, completely unacceptable.

Yelp
Deluca's is my go-to spot for lunch. I work in Back Bay, so it's super convenient. Their deli bar makes fantastic sandwiches, and they're not too expensive (considering the location). I always get a turkey & cheese sub and it's about $7, and it fills me up. They have deli sides as well such as potato salad, macaroni salad, etc. The spot itself is kind of small, not a lot of wiggle or roaming room. But they make up for it with the quality of their fresh foods. The deli bar I mentioned before, and they always have fresh fruit out as well. Apples, oranges, bananas, etc. The grocery items are a little overpriced, but that's to be expected on Newbury St. I definitely wouldn't do any kind of grocery shopping here, especially with Star Market right around the corner, but it's great for a quick lunch. They also have a well stocked wine/spirits cellar.

Yelp
Deluca's is many things to many people. What NOT to buy here: - Produce (It is old and if it's not rotten in the store it will be by the time you get it home). Read Cat D's review- yikes. - Bread (Fresh today, stale tonight?) - Grocery staples, if you can help it. Like pasta, coffee, detergent, etc. Why? Because you will pay twice as much for them. Walk a couple more blocks to Shaws. What TO buy here: - wine, downstairs - cheese - Sandwiches (from what I hear, though not from experience)

Yelp
A little neighbourhood market that served its purposes during our stay for PAX East. We picked up some lovely bottled sodas and a few snacks for the hotel room. I don't think I'd shop here if I lived locally because the prices seemed higher than normal. The cleanliness was a bit suspect and some of the fresher items seemed less... fresh. There was outside seating if you chose to eat your goodies there but the weather was uncooperative during our trip.
