Manresa Reopens Tonight After Fire | Eater SF

"In North Beach, I learned that classic Italian restaurant Caffe Delucchi has new owners for the first time in almost 20 years, and it's unclear whether the new ownership group (which also runs Paradise Pizza and Pasta in West Portal) will overhaul the place or keep it the same; the restaurant is described as being located in the heart of North Beach, with a menu that combines local flavors and classic Italian influences to create a style all its own, and it invites patrons to 'please join us.'" - Janelle Bitker

Best Market has a lot of fresh food, fruit, and meat. Has the best customer service yeah not busy a lot of the time.

This store put children's carts right by the exit instead of the entrance. Then acted as if we were trying to steal the cart when we were taking our groceries to the car. Absolutely no sympathy or empathy for medically complex children. Their prices are inflated and their quality is equivalent to Safeway. Spend 9.99 a pound for Tritip instead of 15.99 for the exact same cut and quality grade of meat. Vladimir literally chased us to our car to retrieve the cart. We hadn't even unloaded our 2 items out of it. This is the little girl he was judging so harshly.

Google
Clean store but rude staff. The store was empty when I walked in. While browsing the vegetables up front, I noticed the cashier ONLY greeted white customers. At first, I thought, "Maybe it was a one-off. I get that everyone can have an off day." However, it felt like a microaggression when she stared me down. Later, as I waited at the register to pay, she looked right at me, then continued sweeping. At this point, I had had enough. I put back my item and proceeded to leave. Right as I was walking out, a white customer walked up to the same register, and the cashier immediately rushed to help her, with her whole demeanor shifting from cold to friendliness. Yikes, will not be coming here again.

Well I was hungry and walked up to the deli area, there was a few people there already, I ordered the hummus veggie wrap, it looked great on the menu picture, the only thing is they forgot the hummus. So if you like salad without salad dressing, then you would like this wrap without the hummus. But mistakes happen, the thing I found that needed improvement was after I got the wrap, instead of paying for it there at the deli, they had ample people to help, I had to go to the checking out line, it's also a grocery store, and wait again, bad. I mentioned this to the cashier, but he was not interested at all, too bad. I will pass going there again.

Heads up, there's a sandwich rewards program at Delucchi's Market. Buy 10 get 1 free. There was no line at 2pm at the deli counter. My Delucchis Special sandwich $13 was made in about five minutes. This was OK. Dry though. They do offer a variety of different sauces like garlic mayo and pesto which I should have added. No line at the cashier at the front.

Google
Just ordered a tri tip sandwich minutes ago and it’s nothing but spring mix, canned jalapeño, 4 thin pieces of tri tip, and remnants of the avocado scrapes I asked not to be put in there. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Not worth paying $14.99

Google
Unfortunately in addition to being expensive, they are often out of staple items. Given this, it's often better to drive further to a cheaper, better stocked store. Fruit and vegetable selection is usually good.

Google
Everything is overpriced. Fancy and good for last min grocery run, but not for regular days. Try nearby options.

Yelp
I love Delucci's! Such a great neighborhood market. Big enough that you can find pretty much anything you need, small enough that you don't have to walk for ages in your daily shopping. I stop here multiple times a week, and there's virtually never a line. No dealing with self-checkout or miles-long lines at the big stores. The staff are all super friendly and helpful. I love their sandwiches, too. A total gem.

Yelp
This review is for the deli. BEST SANDIES EVER!! I have been on the hunt for a real real good sandie in the area and I finally found it. Sandie was made with love and I can tell. I ordered a build your own with veggies only bread toasted. Normally at sandwich spots I have to order extra veggies but this place I didn't. Service was quick and amazing and overall took roughly 5 minutes to make the sandie. The grocery store itself is nice and looks new.

Yelp
Their breakfast sandwiches are cheap and delicious. Not many people know about them so they go to Starbucks which is always crowded. The deli is fantastic!

Yelp
I bought mangoes just before closing time at 8.50 this evening and the inside of the mangoes came out like this. I am so sorry. I have never liked such service. Please stop selling bad mangoes! !!!

Yelp
The best! I love this local market and all the fresh food they carry. their deli is amazing and so is the butcher!

Yelp
The low reviews are justified. 3 stars is too high. Should have known. Lack of quality control in the production line. Teriyaki bowl inedible. Out of the refrigerated case. Broccoli chicken rice bowl. Broccoli was raw, carrots raw. Rice was hardened prob over several days or week. Buyer beware. Caveat Emptor.

Kristianna C.

Yelp
They are always out of wine, disappointing since I live nearby and want to support a local business

Yelp
I tried a sandwich called "The Produce Guy" and it was quite good considering it was eaten for dinner much later that day.

Yelp
I'm math, multiplying two negatives will equal a positive. This may hold true in mathematics In the real world. Being made a sandwich that is usually made to perfection; was made today on the first day of Summer with an odd taste and smell. Possibly a cleaning agent. Called and told the deli people about the situation. They said they would make a new one. Cool. Come into the store and communicate with a blonde Caucasian female and she said she can't help. I proceed to the deli and the Manager asks what's wrong and I tell him. He walks away and then comes back to tell me to leave and not to come back and gave me my $ back. His excuse: I was rude. The whole time I'm thin; they never expressed concern over what May be in the sandwich or what can be done to remedy the situation. No. Manipulation is exercised to redirect and make one feel bad. Sorry! I told him that I don't care and that I can spend my hard earned $ at many other places. So proud to be able to express my honest feelings and not redirect and point fingers. Sorry Deluci's! You loose!!!

Yelp
If I could I would give them negative stars for the rudeness of the manager, Yasmin. I shop from here all the time and the last couple of times I bought grapes from here they went bad within days so I thought I should mention and expected the manager to offer a courtesy refund or discount, or something to acknowledge my complaint. She said I should have called them. Really - there is no honor system? No respect for regular clients? In that case you don't deserve my business. I hope the store owner reads this and tries to coach employees to be more respectful to clients. I was nearly in tears because of this manager's rudeness, especially in front of other customers. I will move my business of course. Adding pictures of the bugs in packets of cuties that we've been sent lately. The consistency of recent bad products is alarming and I hope that the owner takes head. Customers, especially long term customers deserve better.

Yelp
This review is for their deli area. Came into the store, grabbed a number, and placed a sandwich order. Waited around for a good 15-20 minutes and then they called out my number. The sandwich itself was pretty dismal. It was expensive and it really wasn't anything to brag about. I know I can make a sandwich at home better and fresher than this one. The turkey tasted off, I ended up throwing it away.
google avatar

Jordan W.

Yelp
Delucchi's is so much more than a grocery store. I absolutely love the house-made sandwiches. All of the ingredients taste fresh and high quality. My personal favorite is the Produce Guy, a sandwich chocked full of turkey, avocado, pepper jack, bacon, and cheese, onion, tomato, and pesto. The pesto really pushes this sandwich from good to great, and unique. The deli line has a tendency to get long around lunchtime -- I've experienced nearly a 15 minute wait -- so I highly recommend calling to order ahead and avoid the wait.
google avatar

Ryan H.

Yelp
I want to say that I love Delucchi's so I wanted to give them another chance. I've been a few times since posting, and each time I have gotten what I needed. I would recommend going in to order as their text system is not the best and keeping it down to one or two sandwiches so they don't get confused.

Yelp
Was waiting in line. Very unprofessional to say the least. The workers were talking SH*T about the customers. The customer that just left the store. It looked to be a manager & some other workers. This is not okay. At all. Customers help your store run & I certainly don't want to come to a store where I have to hear people talking so unprofessionally and the attitude is ridiculous. You never know who is shopping at your store so I suggest people think about that! This is not the first time & won't be the last SO I Won't ever come back here that's for sure.

Yelp
Nice Market if you can afford $8:00 for ice cream. I came in the store because they have or had great apple turnovers from a Palo Alto bakery. But again no luck I haven't seen them since the first time I bought them about six months ago. I'm old and my pants slip from time to time so I need to pull them up and tighten my belt. So I did this while looking for my beloved turnovers. I look up and the older white lady cashier is staring at me I didn't know she was the cashier so I ignored her and went to check out the ice cream $8.00 is a little to rich for my blood. I turnaround there she is again right behind me, I thought oh ok she thinks I'm shop lifting but then I thought oh she saw me adjusting my pants belt. I don't blame her it's a much different at grocery stores now days I actually feel bad for anyone having to work in this environment, So I went over to the vegetable because I wanted to make a cucumber tomato and onion salad. When I got to the register I told the cashier I wasn't doing what she thought I was doing. And told about being old with belt problems, She replied "I don't what your talking about" I replied of course not and left it at that, she's only doing her job and I didn't know how guilty I look adjusting my pants and belt next time I'll be more careful, it is a nice place just a little pricey like all the groceries these days. 5 stars.

Yelp
Very disappointed. I have heard wonderful things about their sandwiches so I decided to pick up two for mine and the hubby's lunch. Who knew you have to do a check to make sure you get what you ordered? I ordered chicken salad on wheat and paid $10.00 for it. When I get home and unwrap the $10.00 sandwich it's turkey, dry on wheat. Needless to say I won't be going back here. Turkey doesn't even sound like chicken salad which of course I ordered dry since it already has mayonnaise in it. Pay attention sandwich ladies. Again, very disappointed.

Yelp
This grocery store and deli has improved vastly since it opened. I live near it and visit often. (That's not part of my review.) No, it can't compare with the quality of Draegers or the choice and price at Safeway. But has some really good departments: meats, produce, cheeses, liquor and the deli. The employees are very helpful and they open an addition checkout line when crowded. It doesn't take long to get checked out (unlike Safeway).

Yelp
Beautiful market great options and overall a great place to grocery shop. Staff is friendly and very helpful

Yelp
I placed a large order for this store via Doordash, 4 days in advance. The order was supposed to be delivered to me today at 5:30pm, and DeLucchi's cancelled my order at 6:10pm with no reasoning or explanation. What an enormous disappointment and very bad business.
google avatar

Allison R.

Yelp
Lunch sandwiches never disappoint. And ordering ahead makes it super easy to pick up.
google avatar

Veronica R.

Yelp
I gave them a second chance after the first sandwich was a fail. Well I just got a sandwich on Dutch crunch bread and I can't even eat it. The bread is so hard and overcooked I can't even bite into it. So very disappointing.

George T.

Yelp
I've Got bad food there 3 times now. Today the pre made rice was moldy. 6 months ago a piece of fish has gone bad. Last but not least a pre packed marinate beef smelt about a week too old. It was completely rotten and slimy. Smelt disgusting. So be careful
google avatar

Yelp
Nice neighborhood grocery store. Not cheap but quality is pretty good. But it always smells VERY strong of fried meat (?) in there. Every time I leave, my clothes smell and I have to wash them or air them out.

Yelp
I discovered this market not too long ago, and now I find myself going there more frequently. The staff I've had the opportunity to engage with are pleasant. My five star review is for customer service and quality. The cashiers are so nice and display such teamwork!

Natalie M.

Yelp
My family and I have gone to this market for years and I'm extremely disappointed with the experience my relative had there today. The supervisor Arlene yelled at my grandma in the store in front of customer accusing her of touching the glass. This employee did not handle the manner in a professional way at all and left my grandma very upset and embarrassed. I would never expect this service from this market after being such a regular customer. When calling back to see who the supervisor was, she even gave attitude through the phone. Very sad.

Yelp
This place is real good w produce and the sushi is made by a chef which is fresh i enjoy it quite freq when i am in the area
google avatar

Yelp
Fantastic store with personal service. So nice to have you local with amazing papayas and a variety of alternative milk products. If I could make one suggestion it would be to have more international wines. Otherwise, you are a gem!

Yelp
I usually only shop here out of convenience since it's located within walking distance of my house. I come here for one thing and one thing only: Raymond's sourdough bread!!!!! I'm disappointed in this store because they usually run out of Raymond's (guessing it must be popular, duh) and everytime I pay them a visit to pick up a loaf, there's none to be seen! Apparently the Raymond's delivery dude only comes like once a week and when I've asked multiple times when he comes so I can stalk the bread, no one seems to know his schedule! It's very hit or miss here. I find that things are also overpriced and not of the greatest quality or value. If they were more consistent with the Raymond's bread they would have been a straight 5 in my book!

Becky P.

Yelp
I just love them The best thing that has ever happened to this neighborhood. I love their fresh cut up vegetables make my life easier .

Yelp
We originally dropped into this center to stop by Freewheel, however after trying some ice cream none of the bar food sounded appetizing, so we wandered over to Delucchi's to see what they had. Delucchi's seemed to be a good cross between a Whole Foods and a Safeway, with prices that were on a Safeway level - a little bit like Trags in San Mateo. The honey picked up a whole roasted chicken (which was actually fairly salty) and I picked up some cider and some paleo pancake mix I had never seen before. I'm always searching for good gluten free/ soy free pancake mix so I was really glad to have stumbled upon it! The service was good, with the cashier offering a 'hot bag' for the chicken (fancy) and asking us if we wanted our receipts first. All I all I would definitely come back, I really liked their selection!

Karla S.

Yelp
WORST experience ever. So unprofessional and disgusting attitude. Found ants in my fruit!!! Hair on my sandwich! Lady's don't care to put they're hair in NETS!!! Like cmon! the manager is so rude and disrespectful. do not go to this store as it is also VERY overpriced. SO DISGUSTING!!!!! do not go to this store!!! They're gross!!!!

Bobby G.

Yelp
I'm going to Delucchi's for the last five years I don't think Theo is there any more but the store is bad to the bone
google avatar

Jeremy W.

Yelp
This is my go-to neighborhood market for excellent produce, fresh sandwiches, and steaks. The prices could be considered high, but the quality of goods more than makes up for it in my opinion. Ask Bob for a wine recommendation while you're in, their outstanding selection never disappoints.

Brooke A.

Yelp
Want to get ripped off? Buy a $10.00 below par sandwich from here. You will get a sourdough roll with a gazillion of peppers, some lettuce etc. that hide the little meat given. Another place that servers multitask with the same gloves. Mollie Stones, Dreagers sandwiches far better.

Melissa V.

Yelp
I am absolutely appalled with the mismanagement of this store. I tried shopping here to support local businesses and even though their prices are completely insane. Now yesterday and today I've received an attitude from the owner and two workers. today I called to ask a simple yes or no question and was put on hold for over 5 minutes so I hung up. Then when I called back and the same girl picked up she was so rude to me. Then magically knew the answer to my original question and said my phone was fuzzy and I couldn't hear her answer the question then proceeded to hang up on me! 1) if you knew the answer in the first place why did I get put on hold...is it such an annoyance that I simply called back to get my question answered? I haven't seen any sign outside saying no animals allowed. I brought my service dog in twice in the past and they were fine but yesterday, two workers shook their heads and fingers at me without saying anything. Then a cashier with common sense told her coworkers it's fine. Then I started shopping and the owner gave me an attitude too. Never shopping here again. The prices are absurd and the staff is extremely rude and disrespectful. It's ok though I won't annoy them with my patronage anymore. Side note: everything is always expired. I bought an $8 bottle of milk that was rancid. But no returns because of the virus...

Yelp
This market is always, always clean. Friendly staff, awesome customer service, a wonderful meat department and a really nice, clean and organized produce area! I go here almost every week. They keep it clean all the time. The produce always look as awesome as my pictures. They have pre-marinated meat at the meat department. You just go home and cook it! Their deli is quick and good. They have everything to make a quick dinner! Just go to their deli counter and you will see. They have a wide variety wine and craft beer choices. From local to international there is SOO many choices! The best neighborhood market out there! I like supporting local and small businesses because of the quality they give their customers.
google avatar

Aneel S.

Yelp
Excellent neighborhood store. They have most of what you need in good quality. Great selection in produce, meats, wine and healthy foods. We go there regularly. Very friendly and attentive staff.

Yelp
"Yes, we will get that for you, I will harass my boss until he does," says the cashier. Now that I've been in, on several occasions and the item I requested still isn't there, as well as a few others, my faith that this store will improve is diminishing. As another Yelper put it, they hardly have half of the items I need and want on a daily basis, so the store has gone into the quicky mart category with maybe just a slight step up. They have even discontinued items that were there a month ago, that I often picked up from there. "Make a request for the items you need and we'll do our best to get them for you!" More like, "Make a request for the items you need and we'll throw them in the trash can promptly, only because we care! If I'm in a hurry and need to grab one or two items that they actually carry, I will drop in. Otherwise there are plenty of other places I can shop and get most of my shopping list handled in one stop.
google avatar

Megan C.

Yelp
I just had the most amazing experience at this store. We are new to the neighborhood and needed to pick up a few items for dinner etc. Last night picked up Parmesan breaded chicken breasts and cooked them here at home. Tonight I went looking for grits (Alabama native here) and the store associate and managers were so friendly and helpful. We found the grits! And even continued a conversation about other southern foods. Great experience!

Yelp
This is my first time here since the store changed from Key Market to Delucchi's. I came in on a Wednesday, and it the day before Thanksgiving. I just needed some cilantro, and since Delucchi's is a hop, skip, and a jump from my house, I decided to stop in. On my way in, two high school age boys from Menlo-Atherton were standing outside soliciting canned food donations from patrons of the store. I figured that while I was in getting my cilantro, I could pick up a few canned goods. I almost had a heart attack in the canned food aisle. $2.99 for a can of Spaghetti-os, nearly $3 for a can of chili, $2 for off brand cans of corn and French style green beans. I MEAN, SERIOUSLY? WOW! You can get generic/store brand canned goods and sauces at Lucky or SAFEWAY for about $0.50-89 cents a pop! I ended up spending $8 on four canned goods! If the price of canned goods is any indication of the prices in the store, than you can expect to pay an arm and a leg for your groceries from Delucchi's.
google avatar

Johnny B.

Yelp
Terrible butcher department will not do custom cuts. I guess they only know what they know and nothing else. Prices are too high. Safeway is not to far away. Also not very friendly at all. Perhaps ignorance breeds anger. All in all I won't be going back. Problem is their in my neighborhood
google avatar

Svd F.

Yelp
I seldom buy groceries here because they're way too expensive!!!! They're All Over-Priced!!! One late night, I brought a Dreyers ice cream here for $6.49; the next day, I checked the prices elsewhere, it was only $4.49 at Smart & Finals, while at Target $3.50. Delucchi's Market is not helping the local working class community but Scamming Us With High Prices!!! Shop Elsewhere and Don't Support Delucchi's Market.
google avatar

Lee T.

Yelp
Fresh fruit!! And really nice ppl any question you have someone help you with a smile! And it's not so expensive!

Ria N.

Yelp
This is a delayed review. I have since stopped coming to this store. Some of these people need serious education on professionalism, retail management and prevention of lawsuits. I am closely monitored at this store when I come in. I don't know why because my average earnings is probably more than anything working there. Behind the scene this place appears to me to be pretty ghetto were deli workers come from behind the counter to peruse my selected pre-wrapped sandwiches, touch them and put them back after I have set them aside at the sandwich case. After my confronting the deli girl about profiling me, she walked back behind the deli counter with her filthy apron then probably from being owned by me she offered to make me a fresh sandwich that had not been available in the sandwich case. I told her what I wanted and went to grab something else and returned to find her doing something else and not preparing the sandwich. The sandwich was eventually made. This is the only store that I ever seen workers walk up the isles and casually grab items off the shelves and start munching right on the spot before reaching the register!! Upon reaching the register I saw it was the deli clerk who had made my sandwich coming to see if I was paying for it!! So Delucchi store owner, if you have a serious inventory shortage maybe you should check the bulging belly's, purses and bags of your employees and not innocent more than able to pay customers.. I believe the sandwich I brought may have been dropped on the ground. When opening the sandwich in my car I discovered it had black dirt like grime/ on it and it did not appear to be the average baking ash. I promptly asked for a refund which I finally received after a captive debate. After stating I would never return or advise anyone in the neighborhood to shop here, the assistant manager made a sarcastic comment "oh you will be back, I guarantee you." In the meanwhile, it is apparent a lot of the staff at Delucchi Market need serious schooling so they can learn not only professionalism and litigation prevention but where their abuela's came from instead of racially profiling their darker hermanos y hermanas. (brothers and sisters) I got kids that are whiter with lighter features than all of the people I am writing about here. Y TU ABUELA DONDE ESTA? (WHERE IS/WAS YOUR AFRICANA GRANDMA HIDING)?

Yelp
I think most of the reviews came pre and mid renovation. It's looking pretty nice now. I remember how old the Key was. It's much more together now. What i always like about these independent markets are the selections of various foods that you'd never see at the major chains. Always nice to have alternatives especially when they bring in products from other areas of the country. A solid butcher and produce in addition to the pre packed stuff makes it a good stop in the area as there's no other grocers nearby

Yelp
My coworker and I found ourselves waiting in line at our mediocre office park cafe, neither very excited for the sandwiches that awaited us. Quickly, we came to the decision to level up and go to Delucci's instead. The original reason for waiting at our average cafe was that I was lazy to drive the few minutes to the Marsh Manor strip mall (especially if it were only me), but it was so worth it. If you want sandwiches, beeline to the back counter of Delucci's, take a number, and put in your order. We both got the Florence St. Special, which is a splendid mix of Italian meats and veggies on sourdough baguette. Upon arriving back at the office, warm sandwiches in hand, I giddily sat down at opened up the paper and foil to reveal a fragrant savory panini. I'm a sucker for salami, and the salty sour cured meats held up well to the greens and garlic oil. The bread, a most essential component, tasted fresh and was toasted lightly to be crisp but not browned or too dry. Pricey for a sandwich at $10.99, but considering the scrumptiousness and far inferior alternative, I think the price was justified. I am definitely looking forward to coming back in the future--got to remind myself that it is well worth the short voyage! I have been here to restock on office pantry staples e.g. bread before and overall it is an expensive grocery store, but it seems like one can find reasonable deals on the sale items.

Yelp
Delucchi's is a great neighborhood store! I love shopping local and they have great selection! Some shops aren't able to carry as much, but Delucchi's always has what I need. I stop here for all kinds of ingredients for breakfast and dinner, quick & healthy snacks, and the great beer & wine selection. I am always greeted with a smile and a "hello" whenever I walk in. I enjoy chatting with the staff as my items are rung up, and they are attentive to the different items that might need certain accommodations, ie. eggs, chips, etc. I know they also have a great deli that I always see a line for during the lunch hour. Haven't had the chance to try it yet, but I know a lot of people who enjoy it!
