Yelp
For the longest time, this place was inaccessible on a Saturday, the only day I could get there, and even since they opened up to foot traffic on a Saturday (awhile ago now), I still never made it to DeLuscious until the other day (a Friday ironically) when I had the day off from work. So naturally, after so much time of building up this place in my mind (with a consistent 4.5 star Yelp rating), I now have the pleasure of adding my own favorable commentary.
The signage to DeLuscious, while there, is somewhat small and obscured by trees, and considering how large their building is, they could afford a bigger sign.... stating this more as a helpful hint to others who may look for it. Interesting that when you walk in, you are met with tall shipping boxes stacked about 6-8 feet tall... and many rows of them....... and then a stairway. My husband and I looked at each other and then the stairway and decided, okay, we'll go up the stairs. No sign of human life, though..... but let's see what we find. Once we got up the 2 flights of stairs, we were met with more boxes, and then several tables with food items placed very clearly for display...... but again, for that brief moment we arrived upstairs, we still saw no sign of life and stared at each other again.
As it turns out, however, we hit it at a moment when those who work there all happened to be behind partitions or in other rooms not visible to us from where we stood. When my husband walked further towards the partitions and called out "hello???", several workers appeared and offered their assistance. As the young man who helped us explained how this works, mostly online or telephone advance orders and that they are beginning to accept more foot traffic business, he then mentioned something that really tickled my fancy. Apparently, Jimmy Kimmel is one such person who orders from them a great deal....... so much so that if you remember the 2017 Oscar telecast this year, you will recall cookies cascading gracefully from the ceiling....... they were from DeLuscious, it turns out !!! I thought it was soooooooo cool when I saw it...... and it was even better knowing it was from the place we were standing in about to buy some of their cookies !!! If they announced it on the show (and probably did), I just didn't hear it.
Anyway, back to our visit, the ONLY problem with foot traffic business is that they only provide their leftovers...... still freshly made, but they make nearly all their cookies for their online/phone orders, so people like us can only get what's left over in any particular batch. Don't get me wrong, we still had a choice of like 7 different cookie types, but that was it...... and there were no brownies (at least at the time we appeared) or anything else that they might make. We ended up trying a cinnamon brulee' (my personal favorite), chocolate chip, something called chocolate decadence (that allegedly boasts 13 different types of chocolate), and oatmeal raisin.
Cinnamon brulee was delicious, but I can't give it a clear 5-star rating because I hated how flat it was....... I mean, paper thin kind of flat, so for all its AMAZING FLAVOR, I had to really manipulate the cookie to appreciate the wonderful flavor. I'm just not a fan of flat cookies. As for its flavor, I can't really give you a better description than to say it truly tasted like a cinnamon dusted creme brulee' in cookie form. Truly wonderful flavor. Ironically, not all their cookies were this flat...... although the chocolate chip cookies were also flat...... yet, the oatmeal raisin and chocolate decadence were much thicker (especially the chocolate decadence). Unfortunately, I wasn't enamored with either of those in terms of their flavor, despite the 13 types of chocolate. I've had better on both.
Would I race back here...... well, probably not, just because there is no significant foot traffic, and the best way to get their full assortment is to do the mail or phone-in ordering, so if I find myself in the market for shipping cookies as gifts, I will definitely keep this place in mind, and I would do the cinnamon brulee' for sure because it has such a great flavor.
Honestly, my favorite part about this was hearing THEY were the ones to drop their cookies down at the Oscars !!! Stuff like that always makes me smile !!
