"Everything is excellent at this Watertown diner car — which has been in operation for over 70 years — but no visit is complete without ordering the chicken livers. It’s some of the tastiest offal in and around Boston (and a great hangover helper). Bonus: Blue Man Group filmed a music video there." - Nathan Tavares

"A diner should be judged on its corned beef hash and its poached eggs. Too many diners fail this basic test; Deluxe Town Diner finishes top of the class. If you’re feeling adventurous, get an order of chicken livers, which are fantastic. Deluxe Town Diner is open for indoor dining, takeout, and delivery." - Terrence Doyle

"I’m a sucker for eating or drinking anything inside an old-timey diner car. I love the Rosebud in Somerville, I love the Breakfast Club in Lower Allston, and I love the Deluxe Town Diner in Watertown. Its menu consists of classic diner fare, and it’s all solid, but my go-to here are sauteed chicken livers. They are served with onions and are tossed with a mix of herbs, and they have that slight irony taste typical of offal. These livers are low-key some of the best nasty bits available in greater Boston. —TBD" - Rachel Leah Blumenthal, Terrence Doyle, Dana Hatic

I’ve been here a few times now and I must say 90% of the time their food is amazing. The atmosphere is exactly what you imagine when you think old school diner. French toast is probably some of the best I’ve had in my opinion. Staff and service is good for the most part. Food is fairly priced! Sidenote: my mom and me have tried multiple diners through out Cambridge and this is the one we landed in that is our favorite!

Google
Great diner! Got the sour cream pancakes, which were amazing. Also, I got the corn beef hash. The hash isn't the type I like best but was still good. Overall, great, but don’t expect it to be a cheap place to eat.

First time having diner food, went for brunch and got there before the crowd rush, which was nice. Omelettes with salad were amazing! Highly recommend it

So I walk in and the staff sees me and asks with an attitude can she help me, like I had gotten on her last nerve by walking in. Everyone is entitled to a bad day, I was having a not so great one myself. I am seated in a weird booth where another couple is facing me, like it is our own private VIP section. I also am not in the line of the cameras. I ignore the gut check. I am learning not to do that by what followed... A different server comes over. I tell her I need a minute to order. I make my selection she comes back bringing me water. I also ask for an orange juice, a tuna melt on gluten free bread, and am told they have gluten free pancakes, though not on the menu, so I get an order of that with hash. GF Pancakes: Real syrup too. Nice and fluffy. Verdict: EAT THIS. Tuna Melt: Sad and flavorless. I needed the calories, so I still ate it. The coleslaw was nice though, and still crunchy that came with it. I had to spit out my pickle though. Verdict: SKIP Corn beef hash: My first bite was lovely. The second was like a salt lick from hell. I didn't eat anymore and asked them to refund it. I almost swear my plate was swapped out because it got cold super quickly too. Did they mix old stuff with new and that is why it was super salty? Since I literally only had two bites they refunded this, which I appreciated. Verdict: MAKE SURE IT IS MAFE FRESH. Okay. Orange Juice: WAS NOT ORANGE JUICE. I don't know what the hell it was but it had a similar color though milky looking. Sent this back as well for a refund. Verdict: SKIP. Verdict: EAT AT YOUR OWN RISK. One dish out of 3 was good. Not great odds.

Best diner ever!! Amazing ambiance, friendly staff and huge menu. Everything I’ve tried is delicious but my favorite is the hungry man’s breakfast platter. You get two meals in one and a little of everything. The rosemary toast is the best. The Greek style sausage is worth the cost for substituting. I’ve come here before to do some work and waitresses were very nice and refilled my coffee several times while I was there for a few hours. Weekends get very busy, so it’s better to come random hours.

Google
This review is specific to how good the food was… I’m not someone who appreciates atmosphere/vibes. If you re someone who loves great food, keep reading. Otherwise, I suggest skipping mine: 1. Best pancakes in Greater Boston… I’ve looked. 2. Potato pancakes are great. I don’t like their home fries but this has been a great substitute to make experience perfect 3. Host and service is right amount of personable but not overly friendly 4. Good side steak 5. Good eggs 6. Good for vegans…. Wife likes vegan breakfast sausage One of the most perfect meals: pancake, steak, eggs, potato pancakes 5 out of 5… no notes expect for fixing home fries even though I have a workaround

Google
2 stars because its a cool-looking place. The food was repulsive. Home fries were just chopped potatoes that someone left in the oven too long. No taste, no seasoning, leathery and disgusting. Corned beef hash was just shredded corned beef with 1 tiny potato chunk and maybe 2 carrot pieces. Crab cake eggs benedict was fishy and cold in the center. Prives are OUTRAGEOUS for the quality of the food. Almost $50 for breakfast. Truly insane. The place was empty when I ate there, rightfully so.

Google
Typical diner that just too busy to be "good". Atmosphere is your typical diner style booth and tables, counter seating. This one is small so there will be a wait if you are looking for a table to seat. Waited 20 min to be seated for a table of two. After seated, waitress came by and took our order. RUSHING to get things in. Which we are fine with as a busy restaurant. Food promptly arrived. Quality is so so. Fries are brown/black. Bad reuse oil. Didn't have weird taste, but not fresh either. I ordered a Wagyu burger which came out overcooked, and nothing special than a regular burger (up charged?). Coffee didn't get refilled. We were also getting rush out too at the end. Not kids friendly either. There are other better ones out there than this.

Yelp
I used to love this diner and visited regularly for its great food and friendly staff. Unfortunately, my recent experience after moving from Watertown was deeply disappointing. The cleanliness of the establishment has seriously declined. I noticed black mold in the air conditioning vents, and the bathroom smelled strongly of mold, which was very off-putting. The service was another letdown. The waitress was unfriendly and inattentive-she never refilled our coffees, took an unusually long time to serve us, and left us waiting so long that I eventually had to ask for the check myself. I truly hope management addresses these issues soon. This diner used to be a gem, but it's difficult to recommend it in its current state.

Yelp
I've been here around 4-5 times and I love it. Definitely my #1 breakfast place in the area. Service is always great. Food is well priced. Menu is HUGE. Food is delicious. The sour cream flapjacks are crazy good. + it's a train car?!? It is so cute and a lovely place to eat Love it here! Recommend sooo much!!!

Chris M.

Yelp
I had the veggie omelet that had mushrooms, broccoli and onion. It only included two eggs while most places offer a three egg omelet. I knocked down the rating one star for the serving sizes. I had the salad in lieu of hash browns. There seemed like there was sufficient staff to handle the number of people. I did not have any problems with service. The prices were reasonable but the serving size was on the smaller side. I would return if going out for breakfast. It is at a convent location in Watertown.

Yelp
No frills, old school diner, which is exactly what a diner is supposed to be. Long bar counter seating and good amount of booth seatings. Looks old school but very clean. They have a lot of regulars that come in, where they knew their names and last orders. The servers were quick and attentive. The moment we sat down, our server came by to get our drink orders. Large menu selection of breakfast and lunch items. We got the deluxe egg sandwich (you can choose between a variety of breads or bagels) and hungry man plate (this was a large portion - we chose bagel and pancakes (not shown, ate it then remembered, but you get 2 fairly big pieces). Place normally gets pretty packed but today it was little less than half full probably due to credit cards machine were down, so was cash only for today).

Yelp
I still remember my breakfast date, I believe it was a Sunday in January 2019. We sat in the far right corner of bar. I realized Glenn Lunnie Parker was republican but did not realized he was a closed right winger trumper

My Fat Ass K.

Yelp
Cutest diner in the corner of Watertown! This was our go to spot for late night shenanigans. Food was great and the staff gives you the homey feels.

Kelly T.

Yelp
We were visiting relatives in Watertown and decided to try this place for lunch. It was very busy on a Friday at lunchtime but we were quickly seated. The menu is vast and has everything from salads to burgers to sandwiches and even breakfast. Our party opted for a reuben sandwich, a burger, a Cobb salad, and an Asian chicken salad. Service and price were good

M R.

Yelp
What an amazing diner!! For $10.45 you get an amazing traditional American breakfast, eggs, potatoes, bacon and delicious bread cooked to perfection. The service is great, the location is quaint.

Sarah C.

Yelp
Based on all the reviews I expected much more from this little diner. The place was 1/2 empty for lunch time - should've been a sign... Overall the food was OK. They were out of almost all of the blue plate specials, which my friend from California wanted to go just for them. I had the turkey club - it was incredibly dry and had no flavor whatsoever - the french fries were the best part. My friend had fish n chips and said they were good. The tuna melt that our other friend had was just average. The prices are a bit high for what you get even with inflation. Definitely not a place I will look to come back to.

Dominique D.

Yelp
Add this place to your list! This is a classic diner with great food and great service. The portions are huge and the menu has reasonable prices. My go to is the deluxe colossal hungry person special. You get your choice or a short stack of pancakes or French toast, two eggs any style, homefries, toast, a protein, and bottomless coffee for $15. The pancakes and the homefries are my favorite!! They have a ton of seating, but if it's too busy you could always sit at the bar. Regardless it's worth the wait. There is street parking, but that can get hard when it's busy. This is in Watertown so there isn't a train. Love this place! I'd go to this diner so much more if I lived closer.

Gabby B.

Yelp
Yes! Give me The Hungry Man Big breakfast! My bf and I came in for brunch Sunday morning and it was very busy, luckily we found seats at the bar. I wanted the works! Pancakes, eggs, bacon, toast, coffee and after looking at their big menu I decided on their deluxe big man hungry breakfast which had everything that I wanted. The service was great! After taking our order the super friendly waitress made sure my cup of coffee was always full! She literally kept filling it up which I loved! The eggs were cooked perfectly and the pancakes were so soft and chewy! The bacon was nice and salty and I can't believe I devoured the whole full plate of food! My bf really liked his pancakes too! We were so happy we had breakfast here! We can't wait to come back!

Christopher V.

Yelp
There was a time when this was a great diner. After covid, it seems to have gone downhill with rude management/waitstaff and bad food.

Hubert H.

Yelp
Nice place to grab some sandwiches on the way home. The reuben isn't bad. The interior makes it look like you're at an old timey place.

Alisha P.

Yelp
Not worth the 20 min wait in the cold for chewy undercooked pancakes!!!! Omelette is gross as well.. spinach tasted unwashed..

Hallie L.

Yelp
Stopped by with my bf and a friend. Got the Smoked Salmon and Egg sandwich and it was really good, waitress was patient and kind while I was ordering and choosing my type of bread. Unfortunately, the home fries felt a little underseasoned and needed the addition of hot sauce or ketchup to feel complete.

Matt D.

Yelp
Quite possibly my favorite little breakfast spot in the area! So happy we came across this place. Really friendly service, quick and speedy. A nice old school ambiance as well that is tough to find nowadays. Will definitely be coming back!

Jonathan C.

Yelp
The deluxetown diner hasn't changed in years. It harkens back to a different era. Unfortunately the prices do not harken back... They are very current. I live in Fall River and things are definitely cheaper there. Which makes sense. We're near Boston. I saw Rhode Island johnnycakes on the menu and had to try them. I've always wondered what they are. They're made from cornmeal and contain no wheat. They also contain no flavor. Very bland. I didn't care for them. That's all I got so I can't write a very detailed review.

Hashid H.

Yelp
My friends and I always go here. The service is good. The food is great. It's a very authentic diner experience. And the price is pretty cheap considering how food costs have been rising. The ambiance is very nice and casual. It's also got great gluten free options. My best friend' girlfriend is a celiac so we always go here when they come to town. The menus is also very comprehensive with a ton of different options. All in all, a great dining experience.

Bob J.

Yelp
I have to write an update to previous post. Tried the diner again. Same unfriendly staff..same waitress who seemed annoyed with everything . The burger was basically steak tar tar. Completely undercooked. But, I notice that the building itself and interior are now getting very run down and dirty . Did the once proud owner sell the place ? I really hope someone can turn this place around and bring it back to its former glory. Such a shame

Beth S.

Yelp
There are not enough spaces in this review to hit it all. This place is super small. You will wait for a table BUT is it worth it. YES. While visiting the area I came with a friend. Breakfast was Devine. Eggs perfectly cooked crunchy potatoes perfect toast. We sat at the counter I was impressed. I came back the next day with a different friend and we got a booth and I proceeded to order absolutely everything I wanted to try, Living in Ohio I knew this was my one shot to try everything. Dorothy said let's do this. We ordered Blintzes what can I say I am a New York Girl I have had the best of the best, these did not disappoint. The Potato Pancakes had a crispy crunch that although not how I would make them had a rather flavorful content that I absolutely enjoyed every single bite. Dorothy had Over easy eggs cooked to perfection and a bagel so fresh and lightly toasted. Her dish came with thick sausage slices and the most yummy French toast I have ever tried. The home style potatoes were crispy and full of softness and flavor. The order of pancakes did not disappoint I had about 5 bites and agreed that this pancake was by far the richest and most loved I had ever tasted. I had an egg dish covered in cheese with ham and it was my absolute favorite of it all. Hot fresh coffee , amazing personable staff members and Dorothy took a ton of food home to her hubby as well we ate our way through tasting but the serving sizes are way too much. Prices are reasonable, Not a Fancy place but truly a Diamond in the middle of a lovely town. I am a foodie and this place had me at my first bite. Can't wait to return this spring. To try the lunch menu. Or perhaps redo the perfect breakfast.

Mark M.

Yelp
This is a wonderful discovery! Do not be deterred by the outward appearance, this place is an extraordinary representative of the diners. I loved 50 years ago! Great service, excellent non-pretentious coffee, many different varieties of eggs and other breakfasts (served all day)., Classic white, ceramic coffee mugs, and wonderful diner kitch. If you are a fan of inexpensive, excellent breakfasts, and traditional diners this place is a must visit! Certified 100% fresh on rotten tomatoes.

Jennifer G.

Yelp
So good to be back there after the pandemic! My friend and I had a classic diner meal there and this is one of my favorite diners! The music was fabulous and made for a very special and comfortable experience:)

Marilyn R.

Yelp
The food here is yummy; I'm incredibly particular about the onion rings with their special ketchup with horseradish. That combo, although simple, is just amazing, combined with the onion rings. The service is quick and very accommodating, the diner is small and gets packed on weekends so bring your patience. You won't regret it. The ambiance is a local neighborhood, so you'll probably run into someone you know if you're from the area.

Dee C.

Yelp
i cannot keep saying this!!!!! their french toast (there has to be something addicting added to the mix)

Jim M.

Yelp
Classic vintage diner experience. Hustle bustle, value breakfast that will fill you up. Love spots like this.

Kenneth B.

Yelp
Stopped here before getting on the road home. Parking can be a chore unless it is Sunday. On Sunday you can park in the bank lot across the street. Food was good, I had pancakes and home fries. The pancakes were great but the home fries were really underdone. This may have been due to how busy they were. Everyone seemed to be enjoying everything! This is an all American dinner with all the classics. Service was good despite being jam packed.

Patty B.

Yelp
I've been coming here for over 8 years. Great food, fun atmosphere and excellent wait staff. I highly recommend the corned beef hash. That said, the place would benefit from some physical improvements. They need to replace the ridiculously heavy door. The entrance needs to be more friendly to those who are handicapped. Thank you.

Birch Y.

Yelp
Food wasn't great. We called ahead and it looked like they threw it together. Vibes were cool

Marissa J.

Yelp
This is a cool old school diner! They've got fun decor, a bunch of tables, and bar seats. The menu for this place is also massive including breakfast, lunch and dinner. Truly there's something for everyone here. My partner and I came for breakfast for the first time. We arrived around 10am on a Saturday and we were seated right away. I ordered the eggs Benedict florentine and he got the colossal hungry person. My food was mediocre at best, which was an absolute bummer. I really was excited. The eggs were super undercooked and the whites oozing. I could only eat 1 because the 2nd egg didn't even look cooked. The English muffin must have been 2 inches thick, it was massive and mushy. My partners dish was much better than mine and his poached eggs were cooked much better. Overall, I personally don't plan on coming back for breakfast because there's too many better places, but maybe I'd try lunch here one day.

Michael M.

Yelp
Clean, friendly, classic diner. If you like a casual atmosphere and good food at reasonable prices for the greater Boston area, this is a good spot. Easy to find, not far from the highway, lots of parking on the street. There are options for indoor and outdoor seating. The staff was "look you in the eye" friendly and the service was prompt even on a holiday weekend breakfast/brunch rush. I ordered a make your own omelet with spinach, sausage and feta. As expected it was a good sized diner style omelet with a solid portion of home fries. The omelet was cooked perfectly, not runny, not overdone. The spinach was fresh, the sausage was tasty and the home fries were hot and tender [not greasy]. The waitress was attentive but not pushy, and while the meal came fast, she left me alone to eat in peace. Overall I cannot think of any significant defects in this place. I'll come back next time I'm in Boston.

Eric B.

Yelp
Everyone in my neighborhood loves this dinner. Their menu is expansive and catered to everyone including vegetarians, special diets, etc. plus the dinner food is really good, it's the second best diner in the area to my taste. At peak times there is sometime a short wait but it's worth it. I like the Rueben, and the steamed vegetable plate. Staff is typical in knowing all the regulars and service is good. They don't hover but are professional.

Bob D.

Yelp
Don't go. They will overcharge you if they get a chance. I just got an English muffin with an egg on it. They charged me 7.50. A complete breakfast with home fries and 2 eggs and toast was 6.95. Won't be going back. Unpleasant servers

Becka M.

Yelp
I eat here pretty often and the service is always unfriendly and rude. Like every server I've ever had there is miserable, it must be a terrible place to work and it shows on the floor. Today our server had AirPods in both ears while taking our order and walked away in the middle of us ordering when I wasn't finished, so I didn't get to order everything that I was initially going to. She would have had a larger bill by at least $30-$40 on our table if she showed any kind of customer service or patience. The only server with any kind of hospitality is the older woman who works there, she is so sweet and kind, I forget her name. I can't really imagine being compelled to go back at this point honestly. The food is fine but not good enough to spend a bunch of money to be treated like sh*t.

doug k.

Yelp
Good and abundant food at reasonable price. I normally have leftovers so the value is even better

Tessa B.

Yelp
Decent diner, but I've definitely had better breakfast food. The waffle was good--not super crispy but I don't mind that. Some pieces of the toast were buttered while others weren't, and the home fries were just okay(they were not crisp at all and huge potato pieces). All in all it's not a bad place to go if you're in the area. Maybe had we ordered differently it would have been better. Nonetheless, service was prompt and our server was nice.

Jerry H.

Yelp
Solid classic diner food. Came here for some breakfast and found it to be the right amount of busy. We were seated quickly - service was quick but friendly. I ordered the deluxe colossal hungry person special. Although I was not particularly a hungry person at the time, I found it to be a great bang for your buck - especially because it includes unlimited coffee. While it was a good amount of food (I had to take some of the pancakes home), I did not find it to be an exorbitant amount and felt like I got a good sampling of what they have to offer. The toast was well buttered, and I was happy with the amount of bacon that came with the meal (thick slices too!).

Topher D.

Yelp
Just back from brunch/lunch. Had to wait a bit for a booth but well worth it! Awesome variety of breakfast, lunch and dinner options, ample servings, quick, efficient and friendly service, good coffee and teas. Perfect diner ambiance. Absolutely no complaints!

Carol P.

Yelp
The original diners diner! Get the sweet potato pancakes -- but unless you can eat for three, get the small stack! This is the large stack.

Michelle T.

Yelp
This was a delicious and very filling breakfast! Definitely come here if you are hungry. My friends and I came around 1pm on a Sunday and had about a 20 minute wait. It was well worth it. Food came out relatively quickly and was so yummy. Thanks!

Amanda S.

Yelp
20-30min wait for Sunday 12:30, easy parking on Sundays across the street. Enjoyed the egg and cheese sandwich on toasted brioche with hash browns. Pass on the Rhode Island pancakes but that's just me. Good prices and service. Definitely coming back!!

Riley H.

Yelp
Quaint diner with fast service and delicious food. I've had a great experience every time I've been.

Robert B.

Yelp
Best pancakes ever, sweet potato pancakes with pecans. OMG. Friendly and fresh food, not just breakfast but lunch and dinner as well. Old school train with marble countertops.

Leopoldo C.

Yelp
Don't bother coming here if you have a service animal. The person at the door will deny you which is illegal. They don't care. Don't bother asking for a manager...he's a jerk. Food is not that great anyway and service is subpar. But they are expensive so there's that.

Joe C.

Yelp
Deluxe is the best diner in the boston area. My family and I are NY Diner people for years and this place is easily as good as City Diner on the Upper West side. The staff and kitchen are generally quick and they tolerate my kids mess. The food is remarkably consistent. We love it here and its a staple for us.

Jeff H.

Yelp
Great service and food. Everything you want in a diner, from breakfast to burgers. I love this place.

Chris T.

Yelp
I've been coming here on and off for about 20 years now and I must say that the quality of their food and service has gone downhill. Paying over $35 for two omelets, I expect the quality to be superb. Really can tell that some of the folks who work there don't care.

patty w.

Yelp
Diner food done right. We've tried many dishes: Burgers, fish & chips, eggs lotsa ways, falafel, cubano sandwich, steak tips, pancakes, etc. Always satisfied. One small thing: fries are good, but a bit over cooked. To only have one minor gripe, though, tells you just how good it is.Try this place. You'll enjoy.

Paul Z.

Yelp
Stopped in again a few weeks after my first review and had a pretty disappointing meal. I ordered the veggie burger that had a nice bun but the burger was meh. The filling was a weird mix of vegetables including mushrooms and a few black beans. Not a lot of flavor and a really off putting consistency. Fries and coleslaw were good though.

Justin F.

Yelp
This diner is one of many great ones in the Boston area, but it might be my favorite of them. Great service coupled with great food made this local establishment a delight to dine at. I had the challah French toast, which was to die for, while my partner had the smoked salmon sandwich, which was smoky, well-seasoned, simple, and delicious. If you're in the area we would highly recommend stopping here.
