A must go in Florence. In a touristy area, but this cozy family restaurant is the spot for an authentic Tuscan experience. The pasta to the Florentine steak to even the olive oil, everything is perfection. You can tell care is put into every dish.

Go for it, don't think! I reside in Florence and recently found this restaurant and have been going here often. It's a small family Tuscan restaurant with a very welcoming server. Inside, the atmosphere is calm, airconditioner works well, it's clean, and the interior design is boutique decorations consisting of antiques, beautiful brick arches, and elegant greens. However, the best aspect of this restaurant is it's Tuscan food, which is made fresh and with the oversight of the Italian grandmother and the homely recipes. There is a feminine, professional, but caring energy to this place and doesn't feel like a business. They are passionate about what they serve you. Some Tuscan dishes on their menu you'll never find elsewhere. They use less oil so it's healthier. Desserts, such as Tiramisu, are among the best and most balanced I've had in Italy. This is truly a hidden gem: perfect for dates, couples, calm meetings, and for groups of friends or family. And the prices are super competitive even for the budget traveler. I am really happy I found this restaurant, close to the commercial areas between Santa Croce and Plazza Signoria, and I truly hope many others do too. I eat at many restaurants and this is the only one I wish for Michelin folks to discover for atleast the one or two Michelin stars that absolutely deserves!

A 5 star dining experience. Quality of local Florentine food was superb with our host explaining each region where food and wine came to. The wines paired with each of the 4 courses was perfection. Highly recommend.

If you're visiting Florence from the US for the first time you have this idea about what an Italian meal should be like. It doesn't always work out that way, but it will at Demetra Hostaria. We were attracted to this restaurant by its cozy atmosphere, but the real gem was the restauranteur and the food experiences she provided. Dining here felt like eating in the home of your long lost Italian grandmother. She was soft spoken, but provided the most wonderful service with a smile. It was our last night so my friend and I ordered the Steak Florentine (of course!) and we were not disappointed. Our wives has other delicious pasta dishes and we shared a selection of deserts. If you're looking for a special culinary experience in Florence, this is it!

Spent a month in Italy traveling all the way down to Sicily. This restaurant was my favourite from the entire trip. We came back twice during our stay in Florence! Think we spent 3 hours here the second time. Everything was so amazing. Don’t even think twice about its a must. The husband wife dual is so nice. Will definitely be back!

Absolutely excellent experience. The restaurant is located just a tiny little bit outside the usual tourist area, which is why we believe to have seen locals outnumbering tourists - even on an August evening. The food was very tasty and the service could not have been any lovelier. Absolutely marvelous and definitely worth going!

We went to Demetra Hostaria for a florentine steak experience we booked on AirBNB. The restaurant itself is absolutely beautiful. The host, Anna, took us through a historical tour of the food we were being served and paired it beautifully with wine. She was so knowledgeable, but also engaging and made us feel like we were sharing a meal and drinks with an old friend. While we were there for the steak, the true treat was the handmade tagliatelle with beef ragu that was prepared by the chef and owner, Monica. It was so delicate and delicious. The steak also quite literally melted and chef Simone has perfected his craft. I can not recommend this restaurant or the experience with Anna enough. It is a must if you are in Firenze. Pro-tip: booking a steak dinner experience is also available on their website! We plan to return as soon as we can!

We just had a wonderful dinner in this place tonight. The food was incredible (the antipasti, the gnocchi, the deserts... - all fantastic) and on top, the service of Monica and Vicki was top notch. Certainly the best restaurant we experienced during our week in Florence!

Yelp
"I JUST WANNA DROP A BUNCH OF 'F' BOMBS RIGHT NOW" - Anonymous Jk. It was my bf--but it's the most accurate description of what our experience at Demetra Hostaria has been. And it just wouldn't be right to even try to explain how incredible our dinner was. I just couldn't believe we were the only customers there! This place is an absolute hidden gem tucked away from the hustle and bustle of touristy Florence. With no reviews on Yelp and only 37 reviews on TripAdvisor, we were a little hesitant on coming here at first. If I could travel back in time and slap 1-hour ago me in the face for even questioning the authenticity of this restaurant, I absolutely would. She doesn't know anything, don't listen to her. I'm just so glad we bit the bullet and decided to eat here. From the Spit-roasted Pigeon (NOT sourced from Duomo Square lol) to the Traditional Tuscan Stew and Bottarga (Fish Roe Pasta), everything was prepared with love and care; the flavors each unique and complex yet subtle enough that each subsequent bite just complemented the next, and left us wanting more... so much so that we ordered another Tuscan Stew for dessert!! (I'm not kidding. #NoRegrets) PLEASE JUST EAT HERE and support the business. This place needs some much deserved recognition--but not so much so that we can't come back for more!!
