The 26 Best Restaurants In Lima - Lima - The Infatuation

"Demo, from the Mérito chef, falls in line with the bright all-day cafés that are gaining prominence in Lima. This one blends Venezuelan and Peruvian influences, with corn cachapas filled with soft cheese, sweet arepas served with creamy avocado, natilla, or eggs benedict, and crispy tequeños. The sandwiches on sourdough bread, with smoky bacon or goat cheese, hummus enriched with tender peanuts from Tarapoto, are next level. As are the salads, like chicken with the native jungle fruit cocona. Demo is a minimalist space where the inviting aroma from the oven creates a cozy ambiance. The terrace, warm in summer and cozy in winter, is the best place on weekday mornings." - paola miglio

We had the privilege of visiting Demo in Barranco twice during our time in Peru, and both experiences exceeded expectations (weekdays!!). Demo is the café venture of Venezuelan chef Juan Luis Martínez, who also operates Mérito — a restaurant that has been recognized among Latin America's 50 Best Restaurants. The café reflects a thoughtful fusion of culinary traditions, and this pedigree is evident in every detail, from the impeccable coffee to the restaurant-caliber service and the exceptionally trained staff. While the coffee was consistently flawless and the croissants achieved that perfect balance of flakiness and richness, two items truly distinguished themselves: the banana bread and the alfajores. For those unfamiliar, alfajores are a beloved South American confection featuring two delicate, crumbly cookies sandwiching a generous layer of dulce de leche. Demo's interpretation elevates this traditional recipe with remarkable precision — the layers demonstrate a masterful understanding of texture and flavor balance without sacrificing the cookie's essential character. We would venture to call them "the best cookie you've ever had." The quality of execution at Demo reflects the culinary philosophy that has made Mérito internationally acclaimed, applied here to the art of baking and café culture. If we're fortunate enough to return to Lima, Demo will absolutely feature on our itinerary again... because three times proves the charm.

Really outstanding bakery and coffee in Barranco! The guava, marmalade and goat cheese almond pastry is one of the most unforgettable pastries I’ve ever had. The portion is huge so it’s perfect for sharing. They have huge windows which is perfect for people watching.

Best espresso in town! Guayaba Guava Pastry is soooo good. 100/10. The basic croissant and chocolate one are both very fluffy and delicious. Guava cheese wins! The pumpkin iced latte cured my seasonal depression.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Demo – Barranco’s Hidden Gem for Pastry Lovers Demo in Barranco is an absolute delight. From the moment you walk in, the aroma of freshly baked pastries and the cozy, modern atmosphere set the tone for an amazing experience. Their cachapa is perfectly balanced—sweet, savory, and comforting—while the turkey sandwich is easily one of the best in Lima: fresh ingredients, incredible bread, and just the right touch of flavor. Whether you’re stopping by for a coffee and pastry or sitting down for a full meal, everything at Demo feels crafted with care and creativity. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to linger, people-watch, and order “just one more” pastry before you leave. A must-visit spot in Barranco for anyone who appreciates great food, thoughtful service, and that unmistakable Lima charm.

One of the two places in Lima that made us love the city (The second one is Merito) High-quality pastry (I cannot even describe how well-made cruffin and pain au chocolat were. Just look at the pictures!), great service and delicious specialty coffee. Save this spot for your breakfast or brunch in Lima. You won’t regret the choice

Wow! Really good brunch! We had the arepa Benedict, the hummus, and the turkey sandwich. All was delicious. For drinks, we had the vanilla latte and they were great. Fast service and amazing food! Only note, we got to our table at 12:50pm and the waitress said the chef stops doing breakfast at 1pm but we ordered before 1pm so we were kinda annoyed she tried to tell us we couldn't order breakfast. Also, we ordered the hummus as an appetizer and they seemed to forget that. It ended up coming after the rest of our food was already at the table. Apart from these slight issues, I would recommend and we will probably return to try more of their menu!

We went to demo both days we were in Lima and it was my favourite bakery we tried in Lima. The guava cheese croissant we had here still lived rent free in my head and I would eat it every day if I could. Only downside is that service here was very slow so would not recommend if if you’re in a rush!

One of the best brunch spots / bakeries we’ve been to. Great flavours, everything was cooked perfectly with the best ingredients. Loved the arepas benedict and their simple ham and cheese sandwich was amazing. Drinks (coffee, tea and the juice mixes) were very premium too. Highly recommended!
