"GO HERE: for the croissants (and a really nice pourover) at this friendly, not-too-geeky coffee bar, which happens to be part of the main public library in the old city center. ORDER THE: almond croissants and pour-overs. The coffee shop manages to serve some very tender croissants, and they’re serious about the coffee too, roasting their own beans. THE VIBE IS: well, democratic! Library folks (read students of all ages), trendy boutique workers, and pastry fiends flock here. Guess I was expecting too much on the almond croissant, crispy outside but very little fillings and chips on top, not so much butter scent either. I will keep searching for the best almond croissant anyway.

Great coffee, but even better almond croissant. Quite possibly the best pastry I have ever tasted. It is attached to the library so that is probably the best place to access it from.

We had a wonderful breakfast here. The pastry is just absolutely delicious. The coffee is also prepared well. The staff are kind and helpful. This coffee shop extends to a library which is really cool especially for people like me who loves to read.

Stopped here on an early morning coffee/cafe tour of Copenhagen and had a really nice experience. The staff was really nice and upbeat (as has been my experience everywhere in Copenhagen) despite the early hour. I grabbed a cinnamon roll and an oat cortado and thoroughly enjoyed both of them in the crisp winter air. Definitely recommend if you're a coffee fan.

I went to Democratic Coffee for a post-lunch coffee, but I wish I had saved some room for the cinnamon or cardamom buns, as they looked delicious. They also had savoury items on display (I’ll try them next time). Located in the centre of Copenhagen, but away from the crowds. Right next to a library.

3 words: DREAMY CARDAMOM BUNS!!!!!!!!! These people put so much love on everything they do, and the staff is so so nice and are clearly in love with what they do and offer you. Do yourself a favor and try these at Democratic together with a fantastic coffee! Not my last time visiting this coffee shop!

One of my favorite places for coffee and croissants in Copenhagen. First of all, it's in the total center of the city, but on a side road that's usually not super crowded. The coffee shop shares some space with the University library, where you can sit to enjoy your coffee. I like that, because it gives a very lively vibe. Inside the coffee shop itself it's a bit cramped but ok. The coffee is great (had some flat whites) and there also a big selection of freshly baked Danish croissants which is what the shop is famous for. The big window in front of the shop is perfect for watching the people of the city go by.
