The Best Wine Bars in Montreal | Eater Montreal

"Tucked into an unassuming corner on the edge of the Parc-Ex neighbourhood, Denise started as a cozy banh-mi lunch counter before rebranding itself as a fresh and funky wine bar. The small menu focuses on Asian-flavoured dishes that act as perfect complements to a wide selection of natural wines." - Daniel Bromberg

Park-Ex Café Denise to Re-Open as a Wine Bar This Spring Following the Departure of Head Chef Anita Feng | Eater Montreal

"I learned that Café Denise, a Park-Ex viet-café that opened in December 2017, served Park-Ex third-wave and Vietnamese coffee, banh mi, and light Vietnamese fare and quickly became a local favourite, earning praise such as Lesley Chesterman calling it a “hot ticket” in 2018. The owners, Khoa Le and Menaic Raoul, are holding the restaurant’s last service on Saturday, January 25, and are shuttering the spot after head chef Anita Feng—who took over the kitchen in May 2019 and pivoted the menu toward Sichuan offerings—left to spend six months in China learning Chinese cuisine. With Feng’s departure the owners decided to convert the space into a natural wine bar, aiming for an April 1 opening, reorienting the layout around a U-shaped bar, taking on several new (yet-unannounced) partners, and spending the coming months renovating; prior to closing they also offered OpenTable reservations and free parking." - Audrey Carleton

Parc-Ex Restaurant Denise Taps Sichuan Chef Anita Feng | Eater Montreal

"In Parc-Extension, I've seen Denise majorly shake up its offerings by bringing in Anita Yue Ming Feng—the owner of the now-closed, much-loved Villeray restaurant Trilogie—to run its kitchen; this marks Feng’s first permanent return to Montreal’s restaurant world since she closed Trilogie in 2017, after which she did one-off pop-ups. When Denise opened in late 2017 in the southeast corner of the neighbourhood it featured artfully presented Vietnamese and pan-Asian dishes, but Feng will pivot the restaurant toward Sichuan offerings while co-owner and film director Khoa Le says the rejigged restaurant will still aim to highlight Asian tastes and create a festive atmosphere of inclusion and experimentation: “We’ve never tried to define ourselves. Denise proposes something fun, genuine and authentic.” A master of the cuisines of southwest China, Feng puts local twists on traditional favourites — for example her Longevity Salad mixes hand-cut spiralled cucumbers with shiitakes, rhubarb and chili crisp laced with a spicy red oil for a harmonious blend of sweet, spicy and tangy notes; her piquant Yuxiang eggplant features eggplant strips in a ginger, garlic and fermented pepper sauce garnished with Chinese chrysanthemum leaves; and Tofu hua pairs cherrystone clams and pickled mustard roots in a bowl of warm silken tofu flecked with doubanjiang chili paste. Menu items will change every few weeks based on market availability and inspiration, these dishes are matched with microbrewery Harricana’s mixed fermentation sour beers or sommelier Morgane Muszynski’s sake options, and Feng’s new menu is already in place at Denise." - Ivy Lerner-Frank

Critic: Montreal’s Top TripAdvisor Restaurant Finally Nails It | Eater Montreal

"In Parc‑Ex on Beaumont Avenue, this Vietnamese hideaway pairs a tastefully minimalist décor with a subtle Lhasa de Sela soundtrack; I found the food warmly appealing rather than rapturous. The sake‑miso marinated eggplant was the highlight, and the betel‑leaf grilled beef (bò lá lốt) was succulent, meriting a solid three‑star impression." - Tim Forster

Wow!! Drove by this little spot one night .. said to myself this looks like it could be good . And Wow! Was I right ! 10/10! Little 25 seater .. sat at the bar . Service, food and drinks were 10/10! Owners / chefs were very friendly and passionate about their food. Bartender/ waitress ( Stella) very nice and recommended amazing dishes . I’m on a no alcohol vibe now so they had some cool options! My wife tried some cocktails and wine and she loved it ! Will 100% go back ! Also very well priced ! We had 5 dishes, 2 cocktails, 2 glasses of wine , 2 non alcoholic beers. 150$ before tip and tax .

Everything was SUPERB. From the service, to the unique wine list and the food was out of this world. Each dish was delicious and beautifully presented. I liked that there’s vegan, vegetarian and pescatarian friendly options. If you’re thinking of going this is your sign.

Pork Echine, Garlic Scapes, Olives, Chamomile, Japanese Whiskey Tare 🐷❤️🥃 I have to honestly say that @cafedenise is probably one of my favorite experiences I have had in 2025 so far. If you can go there and eat modestly it won't be too expensive but to be honest with you the portions are a little bit small but flavor packed. I wish they were a little bit larger but otherwise amazing. It's Tapas style dishes meaning they're really meant to share and each one that we had was better than the next . For me the star of the show was the pork, a absolutely flavor sensation the whiskey you taste that tare gives a #umami bomb everything extremely well balanced. We got other star dishes like there halibut Crudo with passion fruit there Caesar salad that had fresh anchovies marinated accompanied with Nordic shrimp, this Buratta dish that honestly left me pretty speechless I've never had a dish prepared this way with Beretta and honestly 11 out of 10! Everything just kept getting better and better and better even the end of the meal where we had their Basque cheesecake with Thai tea and dolce de leche was FOODGASMIC 🙌. It's hard to kind of pinpoint the exact Style of food but you can clearly see that they take elements from Japan, elements from Thailand as well as French cooking techniques it's really a spectrum of everything but if I had to guess their influence is more in the Asian sector but fine dining flare! I've been twice so far in a 3 week span and I'm definitely going to come back again! The Two Chefs in the kitchen both own the restaurant and so far are absolutely killing it great job guys!

Google
A truly beautiful meal - every dish was decadent and layered with flavor, pairing unique ingredients together. I am celiac and they were very accommodating with gluten free options! Wine was also delicious and servers were very cute! 10/10 in my book

Google
Went there for the bao buns and matcha pop up, drinks were amazing and so was the food ! Super flavorful and unique. Service was as fast as can be during a pop up, limited seating but we really enjoyed the vibe.

Google
Great little neighborhood spot with excellent food and service. Chef owned and operated, can't go wrong with anything your order. We had the stracciatella (a must!), the ray & the duck and all were excellent. Went on tuesday night and we were lucky to be served by the chef owners who described each dish with such passion! highly recommended spot!

Always an amazing experience at Denise. Inventive yet unpretentious menu, in a beautiful cozy space. Our server was down to earth and really knowledgable, the food was paced perfectly, the wine selection and cocktails are awesome. Denise never misses!!

My sister brought me there for the first time this last summer for my birthday, and I fell in love with the place. Food, wine, cocktails, service and vibe all made me feel really good. Really, there was just nothing about my night that kind of felt off : I enjoyed all of it! I highly suggest you be careful going there though : it feels like you’re entering into another dimension where all your concerns —and good resolutions— are quickly forgotten. Be advised!

Yelp
Denise had a change in the head chef recently (not sure how recent), and their tapas dishes now showcase innovative twists on foods we're all familiar with, and are Asian inspired. This restaurant is quite small (seats around 20 people max inside) and in the summer, they have a modest but cozy sidewalk patio. It is a true hidden gem that is tucked away in a corner and can be harder to find if it's your first visit but I definitely recommend checking out Denise! I've visited over 6 times now and each time the menu is slightly different and the food has consistently been above average. Service is attentive, intimate and friendly and the atmosphere is cozy, warm and trendy (despite the small size). They don't accept resos for outside patios but they do accept resos for indoor dining. Organic wine bars with a tapas menu seems to be the new trendy thing in Montréal and I'm here for it. Especially when they do both well! Portions are on the smaller side (as to be expected, as they're meant to be shared) and I suggest sharing between 2-3 items per head, depending on how hungry you are. Even though the menu changes constantly to reflect ingredients that are fresh and in season, the house made focaccia remains unchanged and I definitely recommend you try an order of those! Prices are reasonable and comparable to other establishments of this nature, however since the portions are smaller and if you're hungry, you'll have to order many dishes per person which can add up. Overall: 5 Ambiance: 5 Food: 5 Service: 5 Value: 4.5

Yelp
Small cute restaurant. The food was ok. We had the burrata which was delicious. The tuna tartare was good but nothing special. I was really disappointed by the fish It was very fishy and bitter. The desert was just okay but I found the melted sugar too bitter.

Yelp
This place is a 3.5 for me, but I like to give Biz owners the benefit of rounding up. It's rough out there! I'd been wanting to check this place out for a while and finally made it happen and I'm glad I did! The spot is tucked in an unexpected corner of mile ex, it's tiny and super chill and cute. The service was warm and friendly and good vibes and the wine list is excellent. I came with a fellow veg, we ordered the eggplant starter to share and then each ordered the grilled tofu dish. Our waiter suggested rice would be good with both the eggplant and tofu so we added that. I wish they had all been served together in that case so we could have taken advantage of having the rice with the eggplant as suggested. The eggplant was truly delish. The tofu dish was good, and definitely needed the rice imho. It's nice to have a veg dish on a menu that has lots of protein- tofu and walnuts - the flavours were subtle but good and I felt could have used another dimension to make the dish something really worthwhile and exciting. The eggplant or a green would have need a great addition to make it well rounded. There were a couple more options for fish eaters and omnivores. I think as full it'll be a while before I try again. But I will be back!

Yelp
I heard about this new cafe-by-day / resto-by-night back in December and had been meaning to try it out. Last night, I finally got around to it. I loved the vibe; discrete, tiny little place on a street where you'd never expect to find such a cool resto. The music was great and the service was thoughtful and helpful. Overall very enjoyable, my only suggestion would be to have more comfortable chairs, as the backless small stools are less then ideal. As for the food, I came in with really high expectations, which were kind of left hanging. Don't get me wrong, the food was good, just not as good as I had envisioned. My favorites were the miso slaw and the caramel porc and egg. I also tried the miso eggplant, which was pretty tasty but seemed a little naked on the plate without an accompaniment. The green curry clams were ok, but a little grimy, which threw me off. I personally found the portions a little small, while the price added up quickly. Nice little spot, worth a try if in the area.

Yelp
Made it. This cute little cafe out of the way... really in the middle of nowhere...is a pleasant surprise. The atmosphere is very Mile-end but right in Parc-ex or maybe some will say Mile-ex. I liked the setup and the vibe, but it is very small. We ordered the eggplant and miso coleslaw entrees and they were good. For mains we had the caramel pork and the clam dish. The pork was good, but I wasn't a fan of the clams. The restaurant was very nice but the food was only OK for me. The price I found expensive given the food experience. It was a very nice experience and it is a good option for the area, so I suggest you try it and decide for yourself. Enjoy.

Yelp
Worst restaurant I've ever been too. Awful service, food was tasteless and very overpriced. We told the server respectfully and they did nothing about it. They were disrespectful and didn't even care that the service and food was awful. Environment is very nice but they need to respect the people eating and be more attentive. Would never recommend to anyone after this experience.
