Deniz is an absolute gem! From the moment we sat down, we were welcomed with warm, fresh bread that set the tone for an incredible meal. We ordered the Special Beyti Kebab, which was perfectly seasoned ground beef mixed with onions, parsley, and aromatic herbs—grilled to perfection and served with a fresh house salad and fluffy rice. The Chicken Chops were another highlight—expertly grilled, juicy, and bursting with flavor. Every bite was delicious, and the service was just as outstanding. If you're looking for authentic Turkish cuisine with top-tier flavors and hospitality, Deniz is the place to go! Highly recommend!

Deniz in Brooklyn is an absolute gem for anyone who loves authentic Turkish cuisine! From the moment you walk in, the warm ambiance and friendly staff make you feel right at home. I had the pleasure of trying several dishes, and each one was more flavorful than the last. The lamb shish kebab was tender and perfectly seasoned, and the chicken Adana was fantastic as well– the baba ganoush was incredibly fresh. One standout is the bread, freshly baked and served warm. The attention to detail and quality in every dish is clear. Deniz offers generous portions at reasonable prices, which makes it an even better find. The staff was attentive and knowledgeable, offering great recommendations. anoush was incredibly fresh. Their drink menu offers a great selection of Turkish wines and cocktails. They also offer non-alcoholic options, and they also have authentic Turkish teas and juices, which are a refreshing treat. To top it all off, their dessert options are wonderful. We tried the kunefe, which was warm and deliciously cheesy. If you’re in Brooklyn and craving Turkish food, Deniz is the place to go. Highly recommended for a casual dinner or even a special occasion!

Google
I ordered grilled calamari salad a lot because I liked it, even though the service or people working there were never friendly or kind. However, last time I ordered there were multiple pieces of hard plastic in my salad. I bit down on a nasty huge piece of plastic that was attached to the squid. Then I found additional pieces in my salad. I decided to add my review after seeing other reviews bringing up food safety issues.

Google
The food was good but overpriced imo. I was looking forward to the stuffed cabbage but it fell flat. Their turkish custard dessert is delicious though, and the staff is so nice and very attentive. The interior is large and well decorated.

Google
Deniz is a clean, comfortable (I like the availability of single-banquet seating) neighborhood restaurant. The wait staff are attentive and efficient. As a single diner (most of the time) I have never felt like a nuisance...it is also a neighborhood standby. Anyway, I was not happy with my meal. I ordered the stuffed cabbage and it was soggy and covered with some tomato sauce. There are four small rolls of stuffed cabbage leaves instead of a standard size. No side salad. The bread tasted stale. I had a bowl of creamy chicken soup. It was healthy tasting but not flavorful I didn't bother complaining because I don't think the staff would pass it on. The menu prices are too steep and everything is a single-item purchase.

We stopped by here because our initial plan didn’t pan out and good thing because we discovered this gem! The food was on point and service was great. My only ish were the drinks. I didn’t taste the requested flavor and it was more rum than what I expected. They tried to fix it though but I guess I had different expectations. It was the painkiller. The mojitos were okay but I’ll leave the drinks out lol because the food was everything! Desert was on point, the mosaic and it was shareable! We had the Branzino and seafood linguini and man! Was it everything and then some. The pictures don’t tell it all. The side rice and salad complemented the pan seared Branzino and the linguini was packed with a lovely variety of seafood like shrimp, calamari, salmon and tilapia. Now the pan seared Branzino was well seasoned and a lovely size. I have eaten Branzino at a few restaurants and this was top notch. Service was friendly, decent, accommodating and professional. We had a lovely time and we recommend for singles, couples and large groups! Cheers!

Absolutely fantastic! The lamb shank was tender and flavorful, and the baklava with vanilla ice cream was to die for. Every bite was perfection. 100% recommend this place to anyone looking for an authentic and delicious Turkish dining experience!

Yelp
The food is good the prices are a bit high but definitely worth it. My favorite food to eat from here is the chicken kebab with white rice and salad.

Yelp
I stopped by this place recently for dinner. I ordered an entree for takeout. I love Mediterranean and Turkish food. I ordered the Chicken Adana kebab with rice and salad. They let me wait inside the restaurant while my order was made. The staff were friendly and helpful. The good was delicious. It was a little pricey but still good. I wouldn't mind dining here next time to try other dishes. The ambiance is cozy and nice.

Yelp
Will be writing a BETTER review this time since this company keeps reporting my reviews because they know it's the truth lol

Yelp
We had a truly fantastic dinner at Deniz. It was quite empty when we got there but by the time we left, it was super busy. The food was amazing. The lamb in many different iterations was mouth watering. The dips and sauces were delicious. The wine was a good choice. We hung out for a long time but we did not feel rushed. It was a lovely evening and we will return again.

Chris D.

Yelp
Popped in for a quick snack and glass of wine. Hummus was great! Staff were on top of things and very kindly charged my dying phone. The wine wasn't the best, but it was $12 a glass so not too much damage done. Would go back and try some more dishes for sure.

Yelp
Before attending a concert at the Barclays Center, I stopped in ____ randomly. It was such a great find and the food was so tasty and flavorful. We ordered the burger and chick shish as our entrees and neither disappointed. I was a little worried about portion, but they were pretty good sized. Our server was also very attentive and kept the cocktails flowing! The inside has a very cute decor style, while they also have a heated patio outside presumably for busier days. Highly recommend if you're in Brooklyn and/or going to an event down that way.

Marie S.

Yelp
Lunch specials are available online from Monday through Thursday. I decided to try the Chicken Shish special with Shepherd Salad. The lunch included 6 pieces of chicken, bread, a small salad & a side of hot sauce. The chicken was mildly seasoned & tasty. The bread was fresh & crisp. I really enjoyed the Shepherd Salad, it was as close to perfect as it gets. Excellent meal.

Brittany S.

Yelp
I got the Smoked Salmon Egg Benedict and when I say this can cure a hangover, I ain't lying. You must come

Ana G.

Yelp
High quality and delicious food always. Lentil soup is the best and comfort food over years. We love their mezze and adana kebab! Their breads is what sets them apart! Sorry no picture because we finish the food so fast.

Yelp
Split the Mixed Appetizer and the Mixed Grill with my Dad. Definitely enough for three people! The flavor was incredible. Staff was attentive, and the space is nice, too. Will be back!

Yelp
Posted on behalf of my Aunt: I had my sister's 75th Birthday Dinner @ Deniz! The food was absolutely delicious!! The Staff were so gracious & wonderful I would recommend everyone to eat there. We will definitely be back!!

Yelp
We bisitef the Sheepshead Bay location for Mother's Day last year and enjoyed the Fulton Street location in January for my daughter's birthday. The food was delicious as usual. The servers and managers are amazing! I shall be visiting often!

Kelly G.

Yelp
I've been going here for a few years now , great food , good people! Always making great drinks ! A nice place to eat and grab a drink !

Akiko I.

Yelp
Great service, relaxing atmosphere, and solid, quality food. One star off for not having compostable takeaway containers at that price point ($19 lunch special) & charging a percentage for credit card use, no matter what amount.

Daniel L.

Yelp
Food was okay. Large space. Service was slow for what looked like 15% occupancy. Ambiance was fine for flirtatious coworkers after work, a couple who last minute decided not to cook or a friends to meet up for appetizers/a base before going out for the night.

Gerald L.

Yelp
Review based on the items ordered. Lentil soup was just the right consistency but lacked something in the flavor. Much better after salt and pepper. Fried tilapia was covered in mushroom sauce and was just ok. The fish was a little bland. The mashed potatoes were fantastic. The lamb chops were very, very good! Cooked to the temperature requested. Flavorful. The side rice was really great too. Couldn't figure out what they put in it, maybe coconut milk? But excellent. The side salad also fantastic. A little pricey but a great local place with good service.

Michele S.

Yelp
The place has a great atmosphere and excellent location. The food is delicious and the service is outstanding. I was glad I visited it.

Yelp
Ordered Chicken Kebab and Lamb lunch plate -includes with soup or cold side. Chicken soup lots of chicken chunks celery carrots. Babaganoush rich garlic flavor and delicious creamy eggplant.

Yelp
My roommate always orders from this Mediterranean spot in downtown Brooklyn, so I had tried the chicken gyro, lavash bread, and baklava prior to getting a full meal from them. I found the chicken gyro to be tender, incredibly juicy and bursting with flavor. The bread was light, fluffy, and tasty. I enjoyed the baklava as well, which was delightfully sticky sweet with plenty of nuts. I decided on Mixed Grill so that I could sample a little of everything. The Mixed Grill came with lamb gyro, chicken shish kebab, beef and adana kebab, along with rice and mixed green salad. For dessert, I went for the Kunefe. Every single food item was absolutely delicious! The lamb gyro was wonderfully well seasoned with yummy spices. The chicken shish kebab was mouthwatering morsels. The beef and adana kebab were melt in your mouth succulent. All of the meat was perfectly cooked and quite flavorful. The rice was decent, and the green salad had a bit of crunchy onion and tomato in it. The vinaigrette the salad came with was pretty good. As for the dessert, I loved it even more than baklava and that's saying a lot! Kunefe consists of shredded filo pastry, soaked in sugar-based syrup, layered with cheese, with walnuts on top. The Kunefe had a satisfying amount of pull, and the cheese paired so well with the shredded filo, which had a nice crispiness to it. There was a slight savory taste, but overall, the dessert was delicately sweet. Next time, I would love to try the Salmon Scallopini, then the Lamp Chops.

Yelp
We chose this restaurant because it's only a three minute walk to the BAM Opera center which we are attending that evening. We had an early reservation and the place filled up very quickly. The waitress was attentive and very nice, but unfortunately the food was very mediocre. The lentil purée soup just missed the boat. We ordered the fried clams calamari. They were too well done , over fried and very tough followed by their version of lamb stuffed cabbage, which is also also very mediocre. The only virtue of this place is proximity to Bam - otherwise very disappointing.

Berny B.

Yelp
You can never get a bad meal here, never. Delivery is beyond fast, the bread is still warm when it arrives, how do they do that? Amazing! The hummus is so special and the Mediterranean salad and dressing are just incredible. The sigara boregi is one of my all time favorite appetizers. I love their hummus and the bread it comes with is the best. They never have an off day, the food is always perfection and service whether eating in or delivery is beyond incredible. Love, love, love (did I mention love?) this local business!

Lindsey O.

Yelp
Great spot and I'll definitely look forward to returning for dinner. I went for brunch and they have a great outdoor dining set up for those of us that are still nervous nellies about covid. It's heated and pretty sheltered from the elements but you can open the windows which is great given so many outdoor dining set ups aren't actually outdoor. For brunch, I ordered the Cilbir which is poached eggs in a garlicky yogurt sauce. I thought they were very tasty, and the bread they give you to dip into the eggs is fabulous. For dessert, I got the Kazandibi which was frankly the best part of the meal. It tasted like a very thick flan kind of. My friends said they liked it better than flan, which, to me as a Mexican, is sacrilege, but regardless, it was quite good. Service was friendly and prompt, and the decor inside is lovely.

Faryal A.

Yelp
the food was good but not the best. I liked the chicken shish kebab but I felt like the chicken was a little dry. In terms of service, I feel like they definitely had great service because the server kept coming to our table to check to see if we were in need. overall is was a okay experience!

Alejandro M.

Yelp
I really, really like this place. A friend brought me for Father's Day- it was my 5 or 6th visit over the span of a year- and while it was bustling, the service was good, and the food was excellent. My companion had the Falafel dinner plate, a side of avocado, and I had the grilled shrimp dinner. We had the hummus for an appetizer, accompanied by fresh bread. Our server was courteous and knowledgeable, answering several questions about specific plates.

Ms. C.

Yelp
My husband and I hadn't been to Deniz since we moved away from the neighborhood over two years ago. Randomly brought it up to him and he couldn't remember what the menu was like or what we had last time we were there. I showed him some pics from Yelp and he instantly agreed to go. We decided to break our fast (Ramadan) there and I'm glad we did. The service was impeccable and the food delicious and tasty just as we remembered it to be. The lentil soup here is an absolute delight. Do not pass this spot up.

Deborah J.

Yelp
What a hidden gem!!! Came here for a birthday lunch on 12/28/23 and loved everything on my plate and my cousin's plate. Our waiter was attentive, charming and helpful!! We had the calamari, grilled calamari salad, lamb chops, branzino, the lava cake and baklava. Absolutely great experience! Charming spot and Definitely coming back again!!

Andrea G.

Yelp
Delicious food, friendly staff and reasonably priced. We could have shared but didn't realize the generous size of the entrees. Hummus appetizer (not pictured) was my favorite thing!

Kay. K.

Yelp
Deniz is one of the gem of Fulton st its the place to go to after 5 PM or to take a 1st date go to chazi maybe im spelling and saying his name wrong so I apologize in advance but anyway he would take care of you the food the drink the wine everything is so tasty you are going to taste this spice and the flavors of each bite its sooo juicy and that you gonna wanna come back and I've been back so many times so until next time Deniz

Sam S.

Yelp
I came to Deniz a few days ago with some colleagues and we were all a bit underwhelmed. While the menu doesn't list any gluten free options, I called ahead to ask and was told that a couple items like the lamb or chicken shish entree were gluten free as long as you don't get the rice that comes with it, so I got mine with extra salad instead of rice. The chicken was tough and dry and on its own didn't have much flavor, although the hot sauce definitely did help. For the price of an entree, I would definitely hope for something higher quality.

Anne A.

Yelp
I ordered through Uber from here a couple nights ago and I was pleasantly surprised at how good the food was. Don't let the simplicity of the pictures fool you, the dishes are packed with flavor. The order was also very well packaged which kept my food hot when it got here. I had the Ali Nazik Beef Kabob which comes on a bed of eggplant purée and a side of bread. I was actually kinda scared to try it because I've never had the dish before but I'm so glad I did! The eggplant had a really tasty, smoky flavor. It kind of tasted like mashed potatoes which is a plus. The beef was also very tender and delicious. My boyfriend had the chicken sautée which was also really good. So much flavor! The portion sizes are also perfect. Could be more but that's just not the kind of restaurant it is. Regardless I will be eating from here any time I'm craving Mediterranean food!

Eli H.

Yelp
Without a doubt the best option for turkish food in Fort Greene! You cannot go wrong with this place if you live in the area

Riyana D.

Yelp
So happy we found this place! Such delicious food and wonderful service. Will definitely be back!!! See attached for some pics....

Virginia R.

Yelp
I like the ambience-but my dish was sub-par. Shashuk: poached eggs with eggplant and tomatos-should be mouth-watering. Instead was flavorless-the poaced eggs were overcooked and the eggplant very undersalted. Super disappointing..but like the ambience so wlll try again

Jafar A.

Yelp
We visited the place few days ago while searching for a Turkish restaurant. To my pleasant surprise, I was very happy with the visit. The food was really flavorful, we ordered the Lamb Adana Kebabs. I would highly recommend the dish if you visit. We also had the Kunefe for desserts, which also was great. Looking forward to visiting again soon!

Michael S.

Yelp
First time, just delightful. My wife and I are New Yorkers, so we are pretty demanding (although we never oppress the waitstaff!) but we were so happy with the food and the service (thank you, HEDIYE!! and your young male colleague whose name I didn't get) that I wanted to make this a destination spot before we had received our entree. Start with the service: so friendly, so efficient that my water glass never got below half-full. The sweetness of the service didn't feel "professional," artificial, a series of learned gestures; it really felt as if we'd wandered into someone's home for dinner. And the dinner! We ordered ezme, which was full of texture, spicy but not arson-related; a lovely eggplant salad, and a Mediterranean salad. Each of these dishes was full of color, seasoned just right. (I pity the fellow in a sulky review below who lamented that his lentil soup required salt and pepper. It's so tough to be a human being in 2022, no?) Our salmon kebab was nicely charred but not dry, and the accompaniments were simple yet satisfying. So very nice. The smiles were real, and there's a little plaza across the street where I sat and watched the cheerful dramas of Fort Greene unfold while I waited for my wife to arrive (I get places too early). great place.

Young K.

Yelp
Came for brunch. It was decent, but nothing much to rave about... food was ok and the drinks were also ok... but saw lipstick stain on the glass and plates were a bit dirty.

Mj C.

Yelp
You can't go wrong with Deniz! I have been going to this restaurant for several years and they never miss. The food, service and ambiance is fantastic! Food is always made fresh to order and drinks are superb. If your ever in downtown Brooklyn, check them out, you won't be disappointed!

Amy G.

Yelp
Deniz is a a neighborhood gem. We often eat there and we order in from there quite often. I love their salads, falafel, shish kebabs, baklava and of course they're delicious bread. I'm so happy to have a great recently priced delicious restaurant within five minutes from our home. Thank you for making delicious meals in Fort Greene.

Rose L.

Yelp
Great meal highly recommended by friends who live in the area. Thoroughly enjoyed calamari salad with falafel, another salad with chicken shish and chicken shish with rice pilaf. Plus we had the dessert and Turkish coffee. So delicious!!!

Mona M.

Yelp
Really like this place. My favorite dishes are the chicken and beef kebab. Super friendly Severs that kindly go over the menu. Nice middle eastern vibe

Foster C.

Yelp
Solid Turkish food, we enjoyed our mixed platters of meats and Mediterranean dips. Ok ambiance. Good service!

Ram C.

Yelp
Get either the adana kebab or the dorado. everything is clear, simple, and delicious. Love this neighborhood staple.

The Q.

Yelp
The food was great, after years of forgetting to try this place we were very happy that we did. My only complaint was our waitress. I ordered the Raki and she tried to discourage me from ordering it, mentioning that it taste sweet and I wouldn't like it. SMH this is a Turkish restaurant why would you discourage people from trying a traditional drink. I had Raki before! We also wanted to try the hummus as we traveled far to come here and she goes "You guys are still hungry?". Anyway, great food and location!!! Still gets all my stars.

Leen A.

Yelp
Had dinner w my middle eastern mom at this spot and we both agreed it was pretty good so you know that means it's really good. I am not a big meat person but the kofte lamb was prepared so well and I loved that they served their lentil soup with lemon.

Uzma S.

Yelp
mixed grill - excellent lamb kofte - excellent hummus - okay vibes - excellent cute AND tasty dinner spot! the decor is nice and the service was super fast. will definitely come back!!

Samara L.

Yelp
Please update your online menu! Ordered a chicken gyro wrap for pickup, which (according to the menu) comes with fries. Ordered and paid online through their website. After I pick up the order, I check the bag and notice the fries are missing. I call the restaurant to let them know and the guy on the phone says the wrap doesn't come with fries. I let them know it specifically says it comes with fries on their menu. He changes his answer, says the wrap only comes with fries if you're dining in - his reasoning for this is 'we have different fries for dining'. Again I let him know I ordered directly from their website, which explicitly states the wraps come with fries. He changes his story again, now he says, fries are $3 extra. Whatever your complicated fry policy is, just update your website and online ordering to reflect that. The food definitely isn't worth the frustration of dealing with the people who work here. I've tried eating here a couple of times and honestly whether your meal is going to be edible is a crapshoot anyway.

Amirah A.

Yelp
SOME OF THE STAFF HAS A NASTY ATTITUDE. So there food is great and the place has lovely interior and looks clean, but they have this one cashier who appears to be a woman that is very rude and disrespectful. She worked a Monday night shift, and I was hoping to get her name so that if management sees this review it is very clear who it was that lacked customer service. My friend and I ordered over the phone a Chicken Gyro Wrap with fries. On there menu (on their website), it lists that ALL WRAPS COME WITH FRENCH FRIES (I have attached a photo for reference). But the cashier decides to tell us that it does not, then switches her story and says it is only for dining in. We tell her that it isn't specified on the menu and also how are there any dine in options during a pandemic so if that is the case there should be an exception. Once we come in to pick up our food, we show the cashier where it says on the menu that fries come with all wraps and she follows that by "we all have good communication here and we communicate with each other and we have never sold fries with the wraps". If that's the case, take it off the menu or specify it is only dine in! We then just take the loss of no French fries and then when paying we try to accept her payment (without touching as covid is still present) and she places it on the counter with force totally ignoring me having my hand out for MY debit card. I have ordered from here plenty before and there is this one guy who is really sweet, but this one lady was honestly a witch with a B and it makes me reconsider ever ordering from here again because her attitude was disgusting. Next time you try to tell a customer their wrong learn to read or update the damn menu fool.

Emmett G.

Yelp
I have been coming to BAM and it's neighboring area for years, but it has taken me a while to get around to this place. After a couple times for dinner, I invited two family members to Deniz's for brunch. They do not disappoint. One order was for the Menemen, a dish of Turkish-styled Scrambled eggs, which has a lot of flavor, though a little too much liquid. Another order for the Saksuka, which was prepared just right (and getting a saksuka right is no easy feet). I ordered the Florentine Benedict, eggs Benedict with spinach. The poached eggs were prepared just right, good and runny. The side potatoes were extra crispy, which is nice. Overall, Deniz does not disappoint. And it's close vicinity to BAM and everything on Fulton street makes it an ideal place for a day out in Fort Greene and Brooklyn.
