"For those wanting a side of architectural and retail history with their Moons Over My Hammy, the Denny’s in Arcadia, California, offers a spinning giant windmill that’s a relic of its building’s former life. Founded in 1915, Van de Kamp’s Holland Dutch Bakery quickly won over Southern Californians with its coffee and pastries. As branches of the chain popped up throughout the state, as well as along the Oregon and Washington coasts, all fans had to do was search for the slowly twirling blades of the stores’ signature rooftop windmills. As the company changed owners several times across the latter half of the 20th century (eventually filing for bankruptcy in 1990), the stores and their windmills disappeared.  Those nostalgic for the days of Dutch-themed dining can simply venture to Arcadia, where the lone remaining Van de Kamp windmill still twirls atop a Denny’s diner. The building is unmissable: Built in 1967, it blends elements of Dutch and Googie architecture and design. Googie was a popular style among California coffee shops in the mid-20th century that was marked by exaggerated shapes, angles, and colors, meant to attract the eyes of passersby. In the case of the Arcadia building, that meant a roundish structure with a folded-plate roof that was, of course, topped with a trademark windmill. Since Denny’s took over the space in 1989, the windmill has teetered on the edge of extinction. Initially, the diner chain planned to demolish it, but a public outcry led them to keep the local fixture. For 27 years, the windmill sat atop the restaurant, only spinning when gusts proved favorable. Then, in 2016, Denny’s added a few updates to bring the windmill back to life: a new motor, reinforced blades, and LEDs for nighttime illumination. But in 2017, disaster struck, as the blades detached and collapsed onto the roof. Thankfully, it didn’t break through and no one was injured. After a yearlong hiatus, a restored windmill appeared on the building in November 2018. It still spins, day and night, continuing its work beckoning hungry drivers to come inside for a cup of coffee and breakfast." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

"The iconic windmill above the Denny’s in Arcadia is back to spinning again after it fell into the restaurant in 2017. It took nearly a year to get the windmill back but Denny’s plans to have it running 24/7, with new changing LED colors to attract even more eyes." - Matthew Kang

Jason was our server today, his service was outstanding! The food was delicious and came quick as well. We appreciated the speedy and kind service. Always a pleasure dining at Dennys.

Google
Most Denny's provide a reliable expectation for the quality of food you're getting, and this one follows that expectation. Its not gourmet, but it's good and reasonably priced. The restaurant was clean, an interesting building in a nice location, had good waitstaff, and open all hours of the day. Overall a good place to stop, especially for early morning or late night when your options are limited.

Google
UPDATE: Do NOT order to-go. They give you lower quality food and smaller portions. The salmon is cold, hard, (we JUST ordered it), and smaller. The rice portion smaller as well. The bread is nearly burnt. I will post a side by side comparison. Came in late at night to eat around 9 pm on July 7. Quiet but still half filled with people. Waitress was pleasant, she seemed happy to be there and like she enjoyed doing her job. The food was good, ordered salmon and a strawberry milkshake.

Google
The service was great here, our food came out fast and our waitress brought syrup as soon as she noticed we got our food but didn't have syrup for the pancakes. Great atmosphere and yummy food. I love the pancakes here 😋 Update: The service was great. We got the free Veterans Day breakfast, very delicious. We will keep coming back here, great restaurant.

Google
Located conveniently 3 blocks or so from the 210 freeway in Arcadia, this hot breakfast spot offered up all the incredible favorites I have come to expect from Denny's! From their signature cup of coffee to their all time favorite Lumberjack Slam( my choice of breakfast today) right to awesome front of house and service, this uniquely built hot spot frankly hit the spot! Give them a try next time you are in Arcadia!

I did try Denny's 2 weeks ago for the first time and felt in love! Great food, very proffesional and kind service (thx Jason!) and it wouldn't run so good if not for a TOP Manager Danny! Thank you very much for your kindness and I'll see you..back in the future probably!

Google
Veronica was great! All the staff we encountered were welcoming. The food was fresh and came out quick. Veronica was very friendly and attentive to my family. There were six of us that dined in.

Google
Gladys was our server and she was wonderful! Our service was attentive, yet very inviting with a homemade coming home feel. Our food for the first time in all of a lifetime of restaurant experience actually appeared on our plates as beautifully so in the menu! Thank you Gladys and thank you Denny’s!

Yelp
Today is New Year's Eve and the end of 2024, they are still open for lunch (not sure if they are actually open 24/7). We wanted to grab our free birthday meal using the Debby's reward program. I ordered in store before I realized I can either order online or in person. The place looks really festive during the holidays. They renovated it and it's different from other Dennys. The staff helping us was really quick and friendly, ordered and got our receipt. We only had to wait 20-30 minutes and off we went! It came with plastic utensils, two pancakes, two syrups, two butter cups, eggs (scrambled), sausage, and bacon. What's better than breakfast for lunch? Free birthday breakfast for lunch!

Katherine N.

Yelp
This Denny's continue to give excellent services to customers and it was fully packed today at 12 noon. We came here for brunch, couldn't decide to have breakfast or lunch, so we had both. I ordered my usual country-fried steak but added the dinner garden salad and chicken noodle soup as the sides, then added the 4 strip bacons and 2 blueberry pancakes. Everything came out hot and fresh and nice presentation. Everything tasted delicious. It was another great service by Jason P.!! He's an excellent server, really always on top of things with water and filling up my coffee. I highly recommend this Denny's. It's always clean, fresh ingredients, and excellent service!! Thanks Denny's team for another great service and great brunch!! Of course we'll be back for more!! Happy holidays!!

Sheila D.

Yelp
Veronica our waitress who was so pleasant and so kind and always with a smile served us on Sunday while Jason was out. Danny who was the manager was so kind and help us at the register This Denny's with the windmill is the best and we'll clean with nice and professional workers

Luis D.

Yelp
Stopped by for breakfast after picking up a friend who had a medical procedure. The dude was hungry and this was close. The server seated us right away and brought coffee asap. The food was good, my friend had the 9-Grain Pancake Slam and I ordered the All-America Slam with scrambled. The bacon was not as crispy as I would like, but good hash browns. Overall a good meal and good value. Service was prompt and plenty of parking in the lot.

Crystal A.

Yelp
Dennys always have good food and short wait times. Only thing about this Dennys location is they could work on is the service and cleanliness. The server guided us to our table and I instantly saw there were food crumbs and pieces on the booth seat. The server didn't seem to notice. Wasn't offered any water refills either. The food came out quickly and was good though.

Yelp
This was my first visit after it re-opened. This Denny's is near and dear to the hearts of many Arcadians. The windmill, located on the corner of Santa Anita and Hungtington, is an iconic landmark in the city of Arcadia. We got here for an early dinner at 6pm and there as no wait. Our server Joselyn F, was friendly and attentive. We ordered mozzarella sticks, a club sandwich and a decaffeinated coffee. The club sandwich was delicious ! They didn't skimp on the ingredients and the seasoned fries were addictive. The mozzarella sticks were perfect too. I enjoyed the decaf house coffee too which she brewed a new pot just for me. The food was exactly what me and my daughter were craving for. The interior looked similar to what it looked like before the fire burnt the restaurant down (so I was told). In fact, I think there is a less of a greasy smell which I welcomed. And Joselyn even gave us an extra marina sauce to take home after I asked. I am happy that my neighborhood Denny's is not only back in business but back with better service and a cleaner smell!

Cindy S.

Yelp
Love the Van de Kamps windmill structure at this Arcadia Denny's; reminiscence of a beyond era. This location is VERY busy. Service is slow, but their staff are working very hard and are friendly. If you plan on grabbing a bite here, patience helps. Honestly, I almost walked out. The Grand Slam: Two buttermilk pancakes, two sausage links, two bacon strips, two eggs and hash browns at $9.99, puts a smile on my face. The HASH BROWNS here are perfectly cooked. Great parking. Safe area.

Cecelia C.

Yelp
This crew at this Denny's were not very friendly. It was my first time there and I received a bad vibe from the waitress. I forgot to get her name.l(Older Hispanic woman) When I asked for sugar for my Ice T she decided not to bring it right away but to bring it when she decided which was when they brought my breakfast. It wasn't busy so she could have brought it sooner. She only had 2 customers. Me and another sitting across from me. The portions where very small. She never asked if I wanted a refill on my drink. But she was quick to bring my check. When I went to pay for my meal the cashier did ask if everything was ok, I replied it was ok and this place is very stingy on the portions. She just looked at me and rolled her eyes. (A young overweight Hispanic girl) Again I failed to get her name Most Denny's are very nice and not stingy with their portions but this location is. This Denny's sucks!!!!

Armando P.

Yelp
I love this Denny's so much the manager Daniel was so helpful. The smoothie he had made was really good and I hope to go there again.

Ann P.

Yelp
The service here is excellent. They really try to make your visit quick and convenient. The staff have always been very friendly whenever I come. As far as the food, it's just standard Dennys food. It's not the best food but it's a good place to just get a quick and easy bite with my kiddo. My kiddo loves the coloring pages they provide and the staff will cater to my kid's needy demands (lol).

Stevo O.

Yelp
I finally made it here after waiting through a fire, COVID-19 and renovation. The restaurant is essentially brand new, including staff. The staff are A-Okay, but with no real pleasantries to share. I was able to snag a senior citizen special, and the son ordered essentially the same thing. I feel good that Age 55 is considered a senior citizen, so I made the cut and received a rather healthy meal at about 30 percent less than a normal order. I do wish they had more of a selection of breakfast items, such as corned beef hash or grits, but otherwise, the food was prepared in the right amount of time and taste. Although I've not been to many Denny's restaurant, I felt the ambiance is typical of a breakfast house with just a little Arcadia charm thrown in...

Ashley P.

Yelp
Very fun ambiance and great customer service. Natalie made sure I was taken care of and made my cold brew coffee exactly the way I requested. I look forward to coming every Saturday now and it's a highlight of my weekend. Love the Arcadia location also for the new look. Would recommend for anyone wanting a delicious meal with great customer service.

Alison H.

Yelp
Food...was..ok don't recommend the lick chicken whatever it is or the steaks thought I give them a try not the best honestly. Anyways there has been 4 times I went like around 1-3 am 2 times I gotten a server named brook...service wasn't good...she didn't even check up on us..didn't give any napkin or didn't offer and refills on coffee...and what's crazy was there was only 2 tables us and then one more person...we sat around for an hour...she didn't even come to check on us...we had to get up and pay she didn't even bring the receipt so we just had to go to ask for it ourselves when we walked to the front by the register brook was sitting doing..I don't know anyways we paid left a 5 dollar tip even though she didn't deserve it...but either way yea..

Jerome D.

Yelp
The service was great. She was very nice and got all orders correctly. Thank you Veronica.

Tara S.

Yelp
Open 24 hrs. Restrooms are clean. Service is quick and friendly. No complaints here. The food came and tasted delicious. Everything was made to order. The design of the restaurant is a little kooky, but it gives it personality. I wish more Dennys were like this. Our waiter went above and beyond helping us. He even gave us drinks to go. I will keep this place in mind next time I am in the area.

Maria A.

Yelp
Staff is super friendly at Dennys location came in for breakfast it was busy but didn't wait long to be seated, server was quick to come to our table and take our order, food arrived fast considering how busy they were and it was delicious. Very satisfied with the service at this location. Almost forgot to mention manager Danny is super friendly he came to our table to check if we needed anything. He was going around checking on all the tables that were there, is good to see managers like him that care.

Vicki R.

Yelp
I ordered breakfast and picked it up. When I got home, the egg white omelette was literally soupy liquid all over the box. The turkey bacon was burnt. The toast wasn't even toasted. At least the pancakes were good. $25 and that's with a discount. So disappointed I won't go back.

Deborah O.

Yelp
The food was, well, Denny's food. Fine but not overly amazing. Yvette, however, was a fabulous server! She was attentive to everything, connected with her clientele, and had an upbeat attitude.

Braxton H.

Yelp
Denny's is a delicious local diner to grab a quick breakfast, however the food is quite subpar at best. Service is excellent, however there are some inconsistencies with dishes. I feel that the pancakes I ordered were a little too doughy, with the hash browns being mushy and quite inconsistent. I would say come back here every now and then, but don't make this your local breakfast spot. For the price, its increased over the years, the only affordable options for under $10 would be the pancakes.

Van T.

Yelp
This location is horrible. We came for the first time since it reopened after re modeling. Our waiter was super sketchy and wierd. He took our order without writing anything down like his memory was amazing, which it wasn't. He took our order and got all our requests wrong. We asked for our son's sausage to be placed on a different plate since he allergic to eggs and gluten, and it came along with the pancakes. We ordered nachos and he didn't even put the order in cause he was prob too lazy to make it since I believe the servers put the nachos together. We asked for a high chair and didn't get it till after we reminded him after the food came. Mid way thru the meal he brought me a refill to my drink and spilled 1/4 of it on me.not sure if it was on purpose. That dude should get a new job tbh. Afterwards, my wife got food poisoning from the chicken fried steak. After searching google seems it's a common thing at dennys to get sick from. We won't be returning to this location. They should have just let it go along with the windmill.

Yordi M.

Yelp
Excellent service from the team and manager Daniel, came in with my mother and brother to treat our mom for breakfast being it was her birthday, super happy with the service added to our experience!!

Noreen S.

Yelp
Service was welcoming, and food came in a timely matter. Of course, we got there at about 8:30 p.m. We ordered medium rare sirloin breakfast steaks for dinner, and it came as ordered. They took about a year or more to remodel this Denny's as I recall coming here 3 years ago and noticed it opened last night, 12/6/23, with the iconic windmill working again!! Inside is clean and has just enough lights so we can read the menu. Lots of parking and brightened area. That's always a plus, and it feels safe.

Jan N.

Yelp
Solid late night place if you are feeling some standard American breakfast. Nothing bad to say about it. 8.5/10 flavor 8/10 value

Jay T.

Yelp
It was nice coming to the remolded Arcadia Dennys. Service was fast and our waiter was awesome. Food was great.

Natalie R.

Yelp
We came for the first time after it re opened on a sunday. Kinda busy about 25 minute wait. Hostess were nice. Was very busy. Ordered stuffed french toast, our server forgot the bread my mom asked for no sausage but it was busy so no big deal. She checked up on our table maybe once. Again we understood it was busy. Manager was going around helping everyone. Food came out fast for it being so busy. Sadly cold brew was sold out. But overall great maybe if we go a bit earlier next time. Everything was good.

Timothy K.

Yelp
I was kind of excited to try this Denny's after the construction was done. The waitress who served our orders was very friendly. Service was good. She made sure our food was coming. The problem starts with the food. Ordered country friend steak and breakfast menu. Country fried steak: The portion is good, but very dried, gravy sauce has no flavor. Since it's my favorite thing to eat at Denny's, I am going to be honest. It was disgusting. Waste of money. Didn't feel like eating it after second bite. Hash brown (side): It was burnt so I had to wipe the black potato pieces off of the plate. Doesn't taste like what I normally eat. Salad: What can go wrong. It was excellent. Probably best. I would probably come back for the breakfast menu. No hash brown though.

Gerry B.

Yelp
The staff are really trying to make it an awesome experience now that it has reopened. They're very attentive. Haven't been here since 1999 and it was fun being back. I would come again. Chill inside vibe. The food was excellent!

Vicki K.

Yelp
Went for breakfast and enjoy the reinvented inside. Nice warm environment with pleasant staff who greeted when we entered. We were seated within our comfort zone with cushy seats. Our server was very nice, answered questions about food items, and gave great service. The food was so much better than the Duarte location, eggs were scrambled appropriately and most. Their pancakes were soft, fluffy, and melted in my mouth. Duarte gives dry almost stale tasting food. Will recommend to friends and neighbors and definitely will return.

Sylvia S.

Yelp
Best burgers they're always open quick and good service the coffee is fresh fries are the bomb!

Vatche Y.

Yelp
Overall, not bad! The new remodel looks clean. Hopefully, it lasts. The one drawback is it gets HOT in here...the blinds let a lot of sun inside. Overall, service is still bland which is why this is a 4-star. They need more waitresses and buzzers.

Maria T.

Yelp
The food I ordered was very good, what little there was of it, but their portions are extremely small, which is a total turn off. My bill totaled around $30.00 with everything included, and that is totally unacceptable. Had I not drank three or four cups of coffee there, I would have left extremely hungry. Too bad StarBucks does not have good coffee like Denny's. I really like their mac n'cheese, and onion rings. The salmon was good, but was only a few bites, and the Mac n' cheese was served in a tiny dish. Shame on Denny's...................................................,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Charlene L.

Yelp
Gorgeous new restaurant! One of the coolest locations with a windmill and a mural of the Santa Anita race track. A must visit if you're in the area!

P B.

Yelp
Firstly, I want to say I have no issues with the staff. This seems like a purely Dennys corporate thing. I haven't been to a Dennys since pre COVID. The way I remember it, it's a decent place to go to get affordable okay food with okay service. I never had any grand ideas that it was anything more. My oh my, the prices have practically tripled! You can tell this is a corporate job. Plate sizes have shrunk, food portions have shrunk, no napkin dispensers, have to ask for butter and syrup. So many corners cut to squeeze out as much profit as possible. The price I paid to eat here, I could have gotten fresh organic food from a different restaurant in town! Service was alright. One of the managers was very short with my family member. The waitress was nice. Though we were rarely visited. I have no issues with any of the staff. It's just sad to see another company cheap out to maximize profits. I'm going to go to a mom and pop diner from now on instead.

Ray S.

Yelp
Been wanting to come here since it's reopening from 2nd kitchen fire in a few years. DISAPPOINTED server not helpful didn't refill coffee until asked seemed like she was going thru just what she has too.Food not served as asked.seating bad when people sat to your right ate looking right in their line of sight. Not for me I'll only come back only if I have too, Pasadena better.

Elizabeth C.

Yelp
On this gloomy Friday, I had a sudden craving for Dennys. Determined to satisfy my craving, I ventured out for dinner, and indulged in an assortment of food. Walking into this Dennys, I was pleasantly surprised to see the immaculate floors. My wonderful server, Gracie swiftly delivered my lasagna, oreo milkshake, and lava cookie skillet. Overall, my experience was nothing short of delightful with the food exceeding expectations! However, one thing to note is the rather chilly ambiance. How could Dennys be so cold???? I was shivering from head to toe whilst enjoying my meal. Nevertheless, I enjoyed my experience here at Dennys and may very well return in the future!

Julie M.

Yelp
I swore I'd never come back, but after being closed for a long time and remodeling, I thought I'd give them another shot. What an improvement! Everything was perfect. The service was excellent (thank you Jason P.), the meal was first rate, and the atmosphere is relaxing. I'll definitely be coming back.

Daniel D.

Yelp
Great service and great food; good prices; good parking; nice environment; good dining experience

Kevin B.

Yelp
Nice Grandslam with Pancakes, Bacon, Sausage, hash browns, and eggs is what we came for here last week on a business meeting. I remember this Dennys right in the heart of Downtown Arcadia. Nice location, just not so much good parking. But the food is good here, and the customer service is good. We had a good time eating and talking. Nice atmosphere.

David W.

Yelp
Went to Denny's for my veterans day special breakfast. As it was Veterans Day Saturday, stoped in Arcadia at the Denny's. I was told there was no Veterans Day special today. And that it was given yesterday though today was Veterans Day. I lived halfway between the Duarte Denny's and the Arcadia Denny's so I left and went to the Duarte Denny's who were happy to honor Veterans Day breakfast , I was so grateful thank you Denny's Duarte. I will not be going back to Denny's in Arcadia anytime soon. What do you think about them not honoring veterans Day on Veterans Day ?

Kevin L.

Yelp
Costumer service is great, food is great really recommend people visiting this Dennys!

Michelle D.

Yelp
Came to Dennys on a whim one night for breakfast during a weekday. Ordered a yummy hot chocolate, and a grand slam. Service was friendly and quick. The new remodel looks really nice. I love how this location has the original windmill on top, super cute.

George T.

Yelp
Was there last Saturday night and ordered the Oreo Milkshake and the Original Grand Slam but the portion of the milkshake shrunk up by 50% (it used to give you one tall glass of milkshake + the rest of the milkshake in a stainless steel cup)... Hope the management sees this review and could notify the employees to adjusted this issue ASAP.

John G.

Yelp
The Denny's in the old Van De Kamps building has always been a favorite. Being Palm Sunday, they were especially busy. My wife and I sat at the counter, and the Hostess, Natalie, was our server. We ordered our Super Slam to share. Sitting at the counter, we saw the plates as the cooks placed them up for the servers. I saw our order come up, and within 30 seconds, Natalie served our breakfast hot and delicious. Natalie greeted and sat guests, manned the register, made drinks, kept an eye on the counter guests, making sure our food was served hot. We enjoy the food at Denny's , but the great service makes this location our favorite.

Me S.

Yelp
Employees are great-courteous and friendly always get my orders with no problems menu has lots to choose from

Andrew Q.

Yelp
Natalie is always giving my daughter an I great services at the Dennys in arcadia. Good food an great services by all staff

Linda C.

Yelp
The food was great. Cooked just right. I was overly impressed with the service. Jason was our server. The sweetest man you ever met. His service was fantastic. He got us refill before we even asked. He kept coming back to see if we needed anything and brought all extras to us without asking. Great service. Please acknowledge Jason for us. Thanks

Yessica R.

Yelp
The girl in front is super friendly, staff is nice and food gets to you fast, great place , great vibe in the store CHEFS- can you learn and make sure the over easy eggs are cooked through, so no raw egg white ? I'm not complaining AT ALL because I have this problem when i cook at home too, maybe u can lower theheat? Not sure I haven't mastered this either. But that's it ! Thanks !!

Rob C.

Yelp
Not only did this location ripped me off with these small portion of fries they also wasted 20 mins of my life waiting for just 1 order of side of fries that should not be this long to wait for.

Jasmin P.

Yelp
I don't know about other moms but I was really ticked off that there's now 4 restrooms for "all genders" but not a single one had a goddamn changing table.
