Five Places Worth Trying This Weekend - Eater Denver

"Denver Distillery opened last week on South Broadway, and its starting lineup includes flavored liqueurs, moonshine, and silver and dark rums. The distillery and full bar are set in the 125-year-old Imperial Building; customers can watch the distilling process and find relics from the 6-year buildout on display alongside Colorado spirits, beers, and cider. Boulder-based Tip Top Savory provides New Zealand meat and vegetarian pies for snacking." - Josie Sexton

Google
Awesome distillery and probably the best distillery tour we've been on. The spirits here are some of the finest we have tried! Friendly service! You won't be disappointed. This one is a gem!

Google
Had an excellent experience here!. The bartender was lovely and very knowledgeable, the cocktails are original and top quality, not to mention the aged spirits were absolutely delicious. 10/10.

Last month we visited Denver Distillery. It was our second or third time. We absolutely love their house made gin. They also make an incredible coffee liqueur, from coffee extracts of the local Kaladi Coffee roasters. Located near the intersection of Broadway and Alameda, it is right across the street from Lil' Devils. Their bartenders are amazing! The menu has some very interesting house specialties, but they are also willing to craft any custom desire. We happened to luck-out, and got there in time to join a free tour of the distillery, which is mostly in the basement. Tours are available almost every day, but must be pretty early in the evening, before 6pm. Our guide was one of the master distillers, who had a very impressive beard. The history of the building, the process involved to open a distillery in Denver, and learning about the actual distilling process was very informative and free... and of course you get to enjoy the tour with a cocktail in hand! Definitely a tour for all five senses. This would be a great way to start an evening out on the town, especially impressing out of town guests.

Google
Denver Distillery was a pleasant surprise. We had a tour with one of the owners/distillers, Chris. They're doing some really interesting distilling projects, including a shochu and rums using the dunder method. The history and distilling methods we learned from the tour were really great. Excellent cocktails at the bar, too. The street view makes it seem like a small, neighborhood bar, but there's some really innovative things going on in that historic building.

Google
We had a reeeeaaally good time here! Joined the free tour with the head destiller, which was really interesting and dude was a very funny guy we had a lot of laughters with! We also bought two bottles of their Gin, got a sample of their new bourbon and went for a really tasty Gin Tonic! Thanks to the guys in the destillery!

Google
10 out of 10 would recommend this place to anyone! Such a great atmosphere and the bartenders are so friendly. The drinks are so fun and creative plus Amazing testing! If you're in the area you gotta come check this place out. They close at 10pm but that adds to its greatness. I just so happened to stumble upon this amazing hidden gem! Thank you so much for an amazing first experience! I will definitely be coming back to try out the rest of your studio Ghibli themed drinks!

Google
The drinks were great (albeit VERY strong) and the bar had an unpretentious vibe. I very much dig that they make their own products. I can only give it 4 stars because it was ridiculously warm in there. I’m not sure if their air was malfunctioning or this is normal at Denver Distillery, but on a hot Summer day (90+ degrees), it was not a comfortable drinking environment.

Google
Chris gave us a wonderful and informative tour of the Distillery and we tried several types of their alcohol. We enjoyed the experience and bought a few bottles of bourbon. We also bought four of his "tipping" glasses! They are great conversation pieces!. Thank you for a fun afternoon Chris!

Yelp
They are located on S. Broadway just north of Alameda Ave. Plenty of street parking. The local post office is across the street and I frequently see people parked there. They have a nice rustic seating area inside plus outside benches. I came for a Negroni made with house Gin, sweet vermouth and Leoplold Apertivo before dinner nearby. They only charge $10!! The bar staff were pleasant to interact with. I have been here before for an Overproof Navy Rum. Very strong rum. They serve 6 different Pasty Republic items. I have enjoyed each version. They also serves Colorado beer, wine and mocktails.

Yelp
Great drinks.. i had one of the best espresso martinis but they called it coffee liquor. Also we had a round of whiskey to try and i finally think my chest hair grew because those were some of the strongest shots I've ever had.

Yelp
I worked with Chris from Denver Distillery to throw a birthday party for my mother and myself. We rented out the entire space and chose them out of many other places in Denver because they were so flexible and easy to work with. This remained true for the duration of our time working together. The space is already well decorated with brick walls so we didn't have to add much. The servers were phenomenal during our time there and the head distiller offered to give us a private tour of the space during the party if we wished. On top of everything - Denver Distillery made phenomenal drinks (as always!) for our guests. We will be back to enjoy the space and drinks more.

Yelp
Had a great time checking out new places on Broadway and the Denver Distillery was a great find! Fancy cocktails was an understatement and amazing bartenders made our night such a blast! The place was on the smaller side but it only makes for better mingling. Cannot wait to come back again!

Yelp
Amazing drinks! Great service, cool stories. Home made tonic!!! Crazy attention to detail

Yelp
Got here a little bit earlier than their opening time, but the workers were kind enough to let me in and pour me a flight. What can I say, this place is AMAZING! Not only do they craft whiskey, but they also distill, Gin, vodka, shochu, rum, moonshine and more. Every item on the flight was outstanding, and I was totally blown away. The vodka really impressed me, and the gym was otherworldly. But I have to say, the best part of the experience was how knowledgeable and friendly these experts were-- they broke it down and explain how they make each type of elixir, and it was so very interesting! My advice to you is skip all the other tourist trap distilleries and check these guys out, you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
They distill all their stock in house and it's delicious. Flights available. 2oz drinks for a great price. Zachary was so dope! Honestly, one of my favorite spots I've been to in Denver and I've been here a handful of times. Definitely recommend.

Yelp
Great little place. The 4-Grain Straight bourbon is fantastic. If you like smokey, the Applewood Smoked Straight Rye is a mouthful. The bartender is not talkative, which I appreciate, and makes a great old fashioned, which I appreciate even more.

Yelp
This was an interesting experience! I used to live in the neighborhood and this was a regular spot. They sent a Valentines email ad and I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to visit the old haunt. When I arrived, I was greeted by the bartender, Zach, smoking outside. He was very gregarious and began chatting me up about how great is the Distillery. My friend arrived and we went into order. He made a few suggestions and we decided on The Great Pumpkin and The Ghost Sour. I think Zach may have partaken of his own wares because it took nearly half an hour for us to get our drinks. He also discouraged us from ordering the Smoked Manhattan because it took about 10 minutes to make. Someone ordered it later on though and it was fun to watch it be made. Even though he was a little handsy (and possibly tipsy) he made us laugh and created a welcoming atmosphere. And WOW! The cocktails were FABULOUS! Very well balanced and smooth. He also treated us to a lemondrop shot which allowed us to taste the pure alcohol a little better. We got hungry and had to leave and would have ordered another drink if they came around a little faster, but overall I would recommend this Distillery and I plan to visit in the future to pick up a bottle or two!

Yelp
I visited back in April and had a lovely time. I'm pretty sure we were the only ones in the place and the bartender was warm, inviting, and attentive. They explained all the options and made drink suggestions. A few of the girls opted for cocktails but I got the tasting flight. EVERYTHING was good! There wasn't a single spirit I didn't enjoy and they were all unique. I'm normally a whiskey drinker, but I liked the gin (gasp), and rum, especially the navy strength. Highly recommend!

Robert L.

Yelp
I was driving through the area on a day they are normally closed. I called ahead and asked if I could stop by and purchase a few bottles of rum. Not only did they open the door for us, Chris was nice enough to give my wife and I a guided tour of the distillery! Oh, and we left with a few bottles of the finest spirits around.
google avatar

Yelp
We stopped in this past Wednesday for some mid week fun. Their selection is great, so I went with the half flight for $14. You choose one whiskey and four of the other spirits (or five spirits if whiskey isn't your jam). I went with the moonshine, apple pie moonshine, coffee liqueur, pumpkin spice liqueur, and applewood rye. Enjoyed all, and picked up a bottle of the apple pie moonshine to take home ($35). The guy manning the place was friendly and helpful, too. I'll definitely be back!

Yelp
We swung by here when Adrift was on a 2+ hour wait. I wasn't impressed with the gin and tonic or the meat pies. I got the chicken pot pie, which was their special, it was meh. Some ghost tour was meeting here so the place was fairly packed but cleared out when they went on their tour. Bartender was friendly, service was quick. The ghost tour people seemed to have fancier drinks so maybe I ordered the wrong thing. But the gin and tonic just tasted like some gin with tonic water, no lime or anything. I'm not sure if it is worth another trip down here to try it again. Lots of other places to try in this part of town.

Yelp
This distillery is great! I came here and ordered the hourglass cocktail and that drink was sweet, light, and very refreshing. I wanted something stronger so the next drink I got was a vodka martini. The bartender really knew how to make one too! It was perfect! I then ordered a dirty martini and that one was even better! She knew what she was doing and was super sweet the entire time we were there. I did do the tour, it's a very small distillery but the tour guide was very upbeat and dropped lots of knowledge on us. I really enjoyed my time here.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I stumbled into this little spot, and I'm so glad we did. It's super casual, but these guys know their food and drinks! We were blown away by the New Zealand style pies and tasty cocktails. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable, and it was the perfect spot to just sit down and enjoy each other's company. The historical location only adds to the charm, thank you for having us!
google avatar

Yelp
We booked the distillery tour but arrived early for drinks. Definitely recommend that plan! We each had a cocktail and then shared the Full Flight (10 pours). The Full Flight includes all of their spirits except their Distiller's Reserve 4-Grain Bourbon. It's a great deal and definitely worth it! Our tour with Chris was great! Super informative but low-key. It was also free! After our tour, we each had one more cocktail. Highly recommend the Et Cetera - our favorite of all of the cocktails!

Yelp
Denver Distillery is amazing. We purchased a tour which came with two signature cocktails each. From start to finish the experience was amazing. The master distiller gave a tour himself and shared the history of the entire distillery. The bartender was incredible and sweet. Make sure you stop by Denver Distillery.

Yelp
I have not been treated this rudely in a while. Walked in after being recommended to come check out the main store by a staff member at a farmer's market by East High School, so I did. Found their location, looked open, went in, and my wife and I were both accosted by guests saying this was a private party. No signs, no nothing. It felt like they were enjoying being rude to people who came in on accident. After reading through the reviews, it looks like I'm not the only one to be treated poorly and this is not a one-off. I will never go back if this is how they run their business.

Yelp
My amazing drinking tour of Colorado continues! This time my adventures took me here. My Denver mixologist of choice resides here and goes by Steph. Please ask her for "The Siren", which is a delicious, layered cocktail of her own creation. Follow it up w The Fae to end it on a sweet note. You have to love any place that takes the time to make the real egg white fizz! Amazingly personable, knowledgeable and a pleasure to watch, Steph is definitely reason alone to come to the bar. Oh and they are a distillery! I hate Gin as a general rule and learned that there really is a thing as a sipping gin on the rocks but that's not even their signature liquor! Try the spiced rum on the rocks! Please come for the delicious locally distilled alcohol and stay for the amazing mixology that is Stephanie!

Yelp
I visited early to get a tour and Erik the head distiller gave my a very informative, knowledgeable, and fun tour of the place. I was very impressed! So I sat down at the bar and did a few tastings and was also very impressed with the 4 grain bourbon and the apple pie moonshine was really good. I got little taste of a unreleased Rye that Erik is working on. Wow! It was delicious! I'll keep my eye out for a release date to add a bottle to my collection! Thank you Erik, Chris and all of DD for the great time. See you again soon!

Yelp
Place is beautiful! The cocktails are great. The Oberon was balanced with sweet and sour. Also, the music spoke to my soul. I hope to be back.

Yelp
I used to be a regular back in the day. The young lady who used to bartend and now is working with the distilling team was a gem, knowledgeable, kind and represented the product really well. The past three times I have been there while the product remains remarkable the service has been challenged. The last trip in this Saturday night will unfortunately be our last. We walked in about 7:30/8 pm despite all the shades being drawn and the place looking closed. Not 1 customer in sight, or bartender for that matter, we sat at the booth and eventually the lady came out and didn't greet us. She did eventually holler to come order at the bar when ready. We moved our way up to connect with her, when we got up there and ordered the drink special she informed us that it wasn't available, no problem, we tried to order one of their house cocktails with added CBD (something I love about this bar), she skipped the CBD part of the drink and upon pointing it out she did not offer to remake the drink but let us know she wouldn't charge us for the CBD . We then sat down to enjoy our drinks in an empty bar. At this point her friend (or regular) came in and she went to the end of the bar to converse with him. Despite wanting a second drink, we couldn't get her attention so just left and had an amazing experience at Lil Devils across the street (and for half the price). It may just be this bartender as she has been the primary cause for our string of disappointments. The product is amazing, so I would recommend buying it by the bottles but skipping out on the bar experience.

Yelp
I dig it! Brand new on the Distillery scene, I'm taking it as a personal affront that they opened JUST after I moved from the area. THANKS A LOT GUYS. (Jokes!) They've got a super interesting interior, with a couple of fun exhibits of things they dug up while excavating the basement. The still is open for all to see (but don't touch!) in the back of the establishment. They've got a nice and bright but rustic feeling interior with comfy chairs and even a chessboard table! They've got a full bar with some beers and other boozes should you not dig their spirits or cocktails - so don't worry about bringing your picky friends. It also helps because they don't have any aged whiskey or anything like that, yet. Which makes sense - that takes a while to age. But they do have some unaged white whiskey, two kinds of rum, and a couple of fun liqueurs. They also feature some super, super fun cocktails. Queen City Cuban, others the names of which I can't remember - it's a fun place, cool people, and decent booze. They're young, it'll take time to mature, and I think they're a great addition to the SoBo Booze Scene!

Yelp
Incredibly rude to my group. Just tried to enjoy a night out, but there are plenty of better bars to go to! Skip this one on your tour.
google avatar

Ronbo N.

Yelp
Great concept but the worst service in the world. The bartender (in the picture) had ZERO people skills and had no idea how to serve more than one person at a time. You guys need to hire me staff!
google avatar

Stephanie V.

Yelp
We always have an amazing time when we come to Denver distillery. The bartenders are great and the atmosphere is quaint. This is definitely a great local spot for high quality cocktails.
google avatar

Reese D.

Yelp
We tried everything. All the liquors and liqueurs! It was great that this was an option. They do have a lot to try. Some we really enjoyed: the apple pie, pumpkin, coffee, and gin. Our favorite? Navy strength spiced rum. The rest were were drinkable but didn't blow us away. The bottling sizes were confusing, small, different shapes, so we didn't end up taking anything with. Would try it again. Maybe get cocktails next time. They do have a happy hour.
google avatar

Cathy C.

Yelp
Surprisingly empty for a Saturday night on South Broadway. Our entire group filled up the place in one fell swoop. Denver Distellery serves only what they brew. We tried the Banshee which was full of spice and reminiscent of the holidays. The bartender kindly poured the cocktail in two cups when she heard we were splitting the drink. It was a a nice selection but I couldn't drink that all night. There was a laid back atmosphere which was perfect for the end of the night. Foods menu looked intriguing but we didn't eat. Could be worth returning to sample the food.
google avatar

Jubilee S.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem!! Absolutely loved my time here! I took my meetup brunch group there for a Sunday afternoon for a tour and drinks. If you schedule with them ahead of time, you can take a free tour of the facility which I would highly recommend. Chad, the head distiller was so much fun and was extremely knowledgeable in the entire distilling process. Our group was able to see the entire process and the barrels in the basement. It was neat to see the process and then try the liquors. The drinks were phenomenal but strong. I'd recommend taking an Uber there to spend the afternoon doing the entire and trying their spirits!

Garrett B.

Yelp
Great service! Great drinks! Only been here once for a wedding reception but the staff did an amazing job and were very welcoming
google avatar

Kathleen K.

Yelp
Went here today with my husband for a Groupon Tour and 4 cocktails....it did not disappoint. Gus our tour guide was super informative and very personable and the tour was a full hour. Paige the bartender was super helpful in explaining the different cocktails and was very friendly. We will definitely be back...just a super chill vibe.
google avatar

B S.

Yelp
Wow! What a great place. So much knowledge. Their hospitality was awesome. Drinks before the tour were wonderful. Our group of 6 ordered different drunks that we enjoyed. Clearly Eric enjoyed his gig. He knew so much about distilling. Thanks for the info. I will enjoy my coffee liquor when I get home.
google avatar

Amanda A.

Yelp
Great historical space. Stephanie the bar manager is amazing, her tonic is the first I've liked ever, absolutely top notch experience. We tried everything on the cocktail list and her additions are a beautiful compliment to all of the spirits. Highly recommend this place for lovely experience and exquisite cocktails.
google avatar

Alex L.

Yelp
I don't know about infusing alcohol with warmth and love using rose quartz, but I do know a damn fine gin when I taste one. Rum, gin, vodka, they've got some great liquor. We did a full flight, which included all of their products. I was impressed by the crisp, clean flavors of their liquors and liqueurs. I don't really go for the flavored stuff, but it still seemed to taste exactly how it should. Even though we didn't eat, one plus was that someoje else was while we were there and the whole place smelled like delicious buttered meat pie crust. The smell went fantastic with the dark rum. Def worth checking out
google avatar

Trent W.

Yelp
Tours are very casual and informative, ordered up a couple of cocktails before and enjoyed them while learning about the distillery, building, liquor in general, it was great. After we sat down and tasted all their different products. Great cocktails, they have beer as well and worth a visit.

Golf M.

Yelp
This has been a great find. Enjoy the great service in an ambient location. Perfect place for a date or night out.
google avatar

Asher E.

Yelp
The drinks were very good but the seating was... odd. It didn't make sense and there wasn't enough. Seemed like the bartenders needed more support. I hope these are just growing pains for a new business. With how popular Denver is for food and drink, I think they need to get some of these details ironed out quickly.

Rosa C.

Yelp
Oh yeah!!! Good drinks, free tour, great company n bar tender, Stephanie. Enjoyed this lil hole in d wall distillery... jewel
google avatar

Sarah M.

Yelp
If I am going to shy away fro my beloved beer it has to be something special. The woman who made my drink took such care in making it and presenting it. It was delicious, refreshing, and strong. At $12 a pop it is worth it when you need a well made drink. The space is very nice as well.
google avatar

Eric G.

Yelp
We were on vacation in Denver visiting some friends and were looking for a local distillery to try. We came across Denver Distillery and it was a really cool place. Stephanie was an awesome mixologist and Chad gave a great tour of their distillery process. The drinks were amazing and Stephanie was really friendly and knowledgeable. We will definitely we coming back here on our visits to Denver. Loved it here!

Peter R.

Yelp
The staff was super knowledgeable and patient with us since we know very little about the distilling process and certain differences in liquors. Everything tasted fantastic. I'd recommend the flight if you want to try all their different kings. Two flights at happy hour only ran us $17, which for about 7 tasters each was pretty cheap! I'd definitely come back and look forward to any more concoctions they have brewing.
google avatar

Gillian G.

Yelp
Went here with a drink passport, good drinks, really neat space. They have artifacts in the bathroom from an excavation they did to expand their space. It was pretty quiet when we went, I hope their business picks up.
google avatar

Katie T.

Yelp
Great location but the drinks were disappointing. There are better distilleries in Denver.
google avatar

Kylee P.

Yelp
Fresh drinks. Adorable atmosphere. Arjun is amazing, patient, and whips up tasty beverages! Coming back soon!! Thanks for a cozy fun afternoon!
google avatar

Joanne B.

Yelp
What a great little place to sit, relax, and enjoy some authenti drinks. Their dedication to perfecting their fine liquors is apparent with the darling distillery. Everything on the menu is authentic and wonderful.

E H.

Yelp
Awesome place. Love the atmosphere. The mixologist was awesome and the drinks were some of the best. Plan on coming back soon. I had the Nightingale and it was amazing!
google avatar

Pamela J.

Yelp
What a fun & relaxing place to visit. Had a informative tour of the place & how things where made. I loved the unique drinks that were prepared with love. Would definitely recommend this place!!!

hiren P.

Yelp
A nice place to chill out with some pretty trippy tunes in the background. The window seats are great on a cold Denver day as the traffic goes by and a bourbon in hand

Michael M.

Yelp
The coffee liqueur is next level! Not too sweet/syrupy. Wonder subtle hints of spice.
