"Oktoberfest on Marietta Street A short walk from Atlanta 's top attractions and sporting venues, Der Biergarten has made a name for itself by bringing Bavaria to the South. German natives opened the restaurant just in time for Oktoberfest in 2010 and have kept up the festivities since then. The restaurant has a fine-dining section as well as more casual beer garden tables. Enjoy the foosball, shuffleboard, and flat-screen TVs that broadcast sporting events. On the menu, you'll find traditional fare such as bratwurst, spaetzle, schnitzel, and goulash. And then, of course, there's the beer: A selection of German brews, including Paulaner, Warsteiner, and Spaten, is flown in from the motherland. If you can't make it to Munich, Der Biergarten is a close second."

This place was tops!! The setting is reminiscent of the bier tents they have at the festivals in Germany and the food was pretty damn authentic and quite delicious. My mouth is watering just texting this review! And our server was FREAKING AWESOME!!! Thank you for the awesome service and European accent Andzelika!

Google
My mom and I stopped by for an early lunch and enjoyed the food. The service could have been better though, the young lady was sweet maybe she was overwhelmed? Nonetheless don’t the service stop you from trying the food. It definitely reminded us of Germany. Get the pretzel, potato cakes, roasted chicken and fries, wasn’t a fan of the schnitzel. The apple strudel was nice as well.

Google
Arrived at noon after a terrible 14 hour travel day to ATL and this meal completely turned our entire day around. I typically am not a huge German food fan but this food was FANTASTIC and the service was phenomenal. Would absolutely recommend for anyone wanting a casual and quick place to dine!

Google
We liked the atmosphere and service. The JÄGERSCHNITZEL was delicious. The only reason I gave it a 4 star instead of 5 star is because they were out of two different entrees I wanted.

Google
Had the breaded chicken. Too salty. Not German quality at all. More like deep frieda Louisiana style. Atmosphere was cool, nice outdoor seating. Service was so so.

Google
Decent place! The service and the atmosphere were great. The german pasta was really good! The service was fast and efficient, and the vibe was great!

Google
Such a wonderful authentic German restaurant. Beer by the liter and all of the German favorite dishes. We came with our kids and ordered the platter for 6, it did not disappoint! Everyone left full with leftovers for tomorrow! Highly recommend.

Google
Outstanding food and beer selection. Service was great. I had wienerschnitzel with potato salad and the spaetzle. DELICIOUS! One star removed for ambiance due to the odd choice of club music playing in German restaurant with traditional German decor. It wasn't loud, but it didn't fit the scene. I would definitely go back, though. Great place!

Yelp
#42 of 52 (weeks of trying a new restaurant at least once a week) In ATL for business and this was just a few blocks from my hotel. I lived in Germany for 16 years so always eager to get a taste of home. It's set up like a biergarten which I liked. We were seated right away. I ordered a dark beer (can't recall which one) which was really good. For dinner I got the bratwurst plate. You can choose if you want the same two wurst's or one of each. I got one of each and it came with saurkraut and kartoffelsalat (potato salad). I also ordered a side of spatzle as I couldn't pass that up. The food came out pretty quickly. I really enjoyed everything but of course not fully authentic to what I ate when living there. I did enjoy that there was a selection of 3 mustards on the table and they were all pretty flavorful. Not bad if craving a taste of Germany.

Yelp
Der Biergarten sticks with the classic "German biergarten in America" formula - German beers and food. No crazy fusion stuff, becoming a modern tap room, etc. Beers here are ~$11 for .5L & ~$16 for 1L. You see the usual suspects, like Weistephaner, Hofbrau, and Paulaner. Food options include large pretzel, misc wurst, kartofel (potato salad, but German and better), schnitzel, spatzel, etc.

Yelp
This was a wonderful time. We were not doing well in Atlanta and definitely needed a pick up. As I suspected the food was authentic and pleasingly welcome. Of course I over ate. It's a Biergarten. Right? The atmosphere is very reminiscent of a German Biergarten. It's dark with strategic lighting for that intimate experience. Many of our people are overweight and unattractive, so best to dim the lights. lol. The service was excellent. I even taught the server how to cuss in German. I can't discuss the topping-off-of-the-steins; you can trust me when I say they'll take good care of you. Pro Tip: if you have 5 or 6 folks in your party, consider the König Ludwig Platte. For $135 you'll get bratwurst, jägerschnitzel, wiener schnitzel, knackwurst, sauerbraten and a whole roasted chicken. It also includes sauerkraut, potato salad, red cabbage and spätzle (a German pasta). It's the best way to sample all the different flavours and there is something for everyone. Lecker! They have over a dozen drafts. I recommend the Gaffel, Kölsch or the Rothhaus Tanen Zapple, relax, it's a mild Pilsner that you're goona love. 11/24

Yelp
We came here before a show at State Farm Arena. We are a fan of German food and this did not disappoint. The location is up a legit flight of outdoor stairs. This is not terribly handicapped friendly. The decor inside was fantastic and festive, centered around a large bar. The selection of beers was pretty extensive and authentic. We ordered a nice dark beer. We ordered goulash, weinerschnitzel, and Jaegerschnitzel. Most entrees come with potato salad. They also offer spaetzle with Gruyère which was like a German Mac and cheese. The food was very tasty and the portions were quite generous. The service is okay, considering the customer service dessert that is downtown Atlanta. I would definitely return if coming to the area for an event.

Yelp
I really wanted to love this place because I love German food and don't get it often. We started with the Giant soft pretzel with the cheese spread and potato pancakes. The pretzel was good, but it wasn't soft. It was crunchy on the outside, like it had been quickly warmed in the oven. I loved the cheese spread. The potato pancakes were very flat, which is kind of a weird thing to say, but that made them very crispy all the way through, instead of having that creamy middle that I was craving. They were served with a warm bowl of very creamy, very smooth, hot, spiced applesauce. For my entrée I had the jaeger schnitzel that came with cheesy spaetzli. The gravy and mushrooms were excellent but sparse. The schnitzel itself- pork- was heavily breaded and a bit overcooked. I could taste the burnt-ness of it. I couldn't taste the meat over the breading. The spaetzle was tasty but cold and stuck together. The restaurant itself is charming and cute. Our server was excellent. I just wanted the food to be better.

Yelp
We stopped by for a drink and each ordered a whole liter of beer! They have a variety of German beers available. The service was rather slow at the bar, as we waited to order our drinks and pay. There were two benches outside the restaurant that you'll pass by when walking in. This was where you could hang out and drink, if you're not planning to eat. It felt a bit awkward, like an area where people pass by rather than a place to hang out.

Yelp
Located smack in downtown, the e restaurant is attractive and large. There is no parking and parking nearby runs at $20. We were a large group so we practically got all the dishes in the menu. The large platter meant for 4 to 6 people can actually feed a lot more and it was good. Not a huge fan of the sides but I think it is more due to having an acquired taste than them tasting bad.
google avatar

Yelp
Great place for German food and drinks. We sat at the bar and got awesome service from T.L. The food menu has a large selection

Yelp
We went here spur of the moment. We don't usually go downtown, so we were surprised by parking prices. We paid $20 for three hours. The lot was a short walk (less than a block) from the restaurant. From an accessibility standpoint, the sidewalk was very uneven, and the restaurant is up a steep flight of steps. The beer list is great and my husband was excited to see some of his favorites on tap and some beers he hasn't been able to find in years. We got the giant pretzel, the sausage appetizer, the stuffed corned beef, and the schnitzel with mushroom sauce. All were great except the schnitzel which was far too salty for me. Service and the kitchen were slow, but I wonder if the place was understaffed. Once we were seated (after a 20 min wait), the server who took our order only came back to deliver the entrees (after about a forty five min wait). However there was a bartender who moved between the bar and our table seamlessly. We're looking forward to going again and trying more of the food. We'll try to sit next to a tv next time. The music was a great playlist, and the vibe was chill.

Yelp
I recently visited Der Biergarten in Downtown Atlanta, Georgia. We stopped by for a beer and had a good time. We each ordered a liter of the Hacker-Pschorr Weisse, which was very flavorful. It's a nice spot for tourists to grab a drink.

Yelp
Surprisingly there is a German restaurant so close to Georgia Tech! The restaurant was very big, with two bars and a patio. I only went there once and tried their bratwurst platter. It was just 14 but definitely filling. I also got a side of braised red cabbage. Everything tasted good at first, but many was too salty and oily, especially the bratwurst and the braised red cabbage. So I ended up not finishing all of them. The spatzel looked like small pasta shells but was more chewy. Interestingly it was cooked with cheese, so there had a creamy taste as well.

Yelp
Good authentic beer choices and a good area to hang out with friends. I would say service was lackluster at best so... but, I went for beer and got beer. Solid.

Yelp
Our 1st night in Atlanta, we walked past this place and didn't go in because we were trying to be good and not drink. Lol. Well, we decided to try it anyway! The very next evening we made our way in and I'm so glad we did! My husband found his favorite beer here! The food is good but the beer was even better and so was the wine. The bartender was awesome and the we fell in love with a massive picture on the wall. We had no complaints and if we're ever back in Hot-lanta, you will find us here.
google avatar

Yelp
Great concept with OK execution. Trying half of the Wiener Schnitzel is a good test of any lunch house, stube, Biergarten or whatever that purports to be German. A. Is the meat actually veal? On this, I'm leaning but not fully convinced it was veal. In any event, rather tough and it took 40" to get lemon wedges! Can't comment on the bier other than they admirably had an NA option in Clausthaler.

Yelp
Great German feels. Food was great. Not a long wait at all. Enjoyed the mustard variety. Service was right in target.

Yelp
The food was beyond fresh, and so delicious! The workers were all so friendly and helpful to us first timers, making sure we ordered to our liking. The decorum and scenery made us feel like we were in Germany. The stew was my personal fav

Yelp
Not sure how I ended up at this place, perhaps due to convenience and a friend of mine looking for somewhere in the vicinity to get something to eat. The space is huge and there are multiple levels, including a rooftop level. As they specialize in German fare, we ordered the Käsespätzle (egg noodles, onions, Emmentaler cheese), Gegrilltes Hähnchen (half rotisserie chicken), and Kartoffeksalat (potato salad) to eat and a glass of wine and some beer to drink. The food was just OK. The chicken was cooked well but could have been seasoned more and the potato salad was slightly mushy and lacked flavor. I was also surprised by how bland the "Mac and cheese" was since it had so much potential by the description. I definitely felt the dishes were overpriced for what they were. The service was also mediocre as our waiter rarely came by to check on us. Overall, there is nothing special about this place but it's an option for something to eat if you're in the area and looking for a casual spot to get some drinks and a bite.

Yelp
Fantastic service & incredible atmosphere! Sat at the bar & ordered 1/2L of beer in a massive stein that was ice cold while watching college football. Highly recommend! Food looked incredible, as well.

Yelp
We had a large group and wasn't sure if this was the place to take some potentially picky eaters. I was very happily surprised that there was something for everyone and room for the entire group. We didn't have to wait long and considered we went on a holiday weekend with larger crowds walking the streets I was very impressed. The server and staff were busy but didn't look over worked. That's nice to see in a crowded restaurant where too often the staff is overwhelmed. For the food you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Between all of us I think we got a bit of everything. The sausages were exceptionally well prepared. I especially enjoyed the German style potato salad. Great place to take the family after a day at the aquarium. Not only for the large seating capacity but for the large beer you need to digest the receipt from the gift shops!
google avatar

Yelp
Beer Garden with some wine and full bar for cocktail options. We ordered the pretzel which was enormous and tasty. Other patrons ordered different items and all looked good. Service was friendly.
google avatar

Ada S.

Yelp
Overall a solid 4/5. We came here on a date night before seeing the botanical garden lights and started with the two seasonal beers. We also ordered the goulash suppe while we enjoyed the well decorated interior that went all out for the holidays. Our favorite was definitely the train that snakes its way throughout the entire restaurant. For our entree we split the jägerschnitzel. The food and beer was excellent, slightly over salted but generous in portion and flavor. Service was average, slow on a slow night but it was fine nonetheless. Be aware, the garage Hilton garden Inn does not validate parking anymore !

Yelp
The service was great, portions were HUGE, and drinks were great! Outdoor patio was super spacious and comfortable. Absolutely worth a visit!

Yelp
Great place for that German vibe exp. TL at the bar is great. Beer selection is authentically German. I always get the Salmon appetizer. 1/2 liter & liter beers served in HUGE glass. Beer & food great. Friendly staff. Check it out.

Yelp
Food: 8 Service: 1 6/6/24, 7:30 pm. Despite a full army of staff the server introduced herself by saying she couldn't give us much attention because management was asking her to do so much. Ignored my husband's questions about beer choices. Didn't bring silverware. Brought the check without asking if we wanted dessert (we did, but never mind). Food was delicious, especially my jagersnitzel & husband's beef roast, but the service really adversely affected the experience.

Yelp
Seriously authentic and delicious food! Looks just like Germany! I was born in weisbaden Germany and this is the most authentic food I've seen in Atlanta yet. Kelly, our waitress was so nice! Incredibly fresh and helped us make Apfelsaft schorle with what she had and we were able to relive old memories, seriously she deserves a raise!
google avatar

Yelp
The food was very tasty. Had the bratwurst platter and my son enjoyed the chicken tenders. Beer and pretzel were great.
google avatar

Yelp
Came in on a gorgeous weekday afternoon and asked to sit outside. There were only a handful of other people eating. There were TVs inside playing soccer games. My server was efficient but not really friendly. I ordered the Jägerschnitzel with Käsespätzle and a side of Rotkohl. Everything was really tasty almost like being back in Germany. They could have had a little more gravy, but I didn't feel like asking for it. They have Liter beer, which I ordered the Hefeweizen to wash down all the good heavy food. Would go back if craving a filling meal in downtown.
google avatar

Yelp
Paid $20 to park only to find the gate locked. Was told closed on a Friday for private party. No warning and lots of people angry.

Yelp
I've been here a few times now and realized I haven't left a review yet. You have to go upstairs to get to this place but I think there's a handicap elevator somewhere They have a huge outdoor patio and plenty of indoor seating as well They have a ton of beers to select in 1/2 L, 1 L and das boot size but I didn't see that last time so it may be gone I normally get jaegerschnitzle or wurstplatten but this time I decided to adventure out and got the pork shank. It was not my thing. It was super salty and the skin texture was hard on the outside, chewy af on the inside. Very gamey for a cut of pork too somehow... But my brother in law liked it. My husband got the wurstplatten with 2 sausages & it was delicious. The potato salad here is so good, you'll want to order another helping. The sauerkraut and red cabbage are also delicious! The pretzel is the best I've had in Atlanta esp with the mustards! I'm planning to try the cheese next time. The pretzel was so good, I forgot to take a picture Moscow mule was strong but went well with the heavy food! There's no parking, except for decks nearby and maybe a side street. We were at the aquarium that morning so left our car over there to walk here. I love this place & will definitely be back. Fyi, the patio is pet friendly and they play sports on the TV's.

Yelp
I was in Atlanta for a trade show at the convention center and decided to eat after seeing the reviews and photos. Luckily, this place did not disappoint. The waitress we had was super nice and attentive. She kept coming to our table to make sure we were enjoying our meal and she really made our night! The pretzel was great too and so was my main course, the wiener schnitzel. I will definitely be coming back to this restaurant if I am ever in the area again.

Yelp
This place was really nice. Close to the hotel and it seemed like really good from the menu. Started off with 2 beers. I had a 1 liter pint of amber ale and candyce .5 liter of rotthaus. Lots of beer. You can tell the cops that I only had 1 beer. I had the jagerschnitzel with the spatzele. It was fantastic. Candyce had the weinerschnitzel with spatzele. Tried hers and it was great. Sandrina was our waitress and she was fantastic. Definitely recommend this place.
google avatar

Christopher T.

Yelp
Solid venue in centennial park area. Had a great German/European beer selection and some nice liquor drinks. Food was great. Staff was attentive with big game day crowd. However, they charge a $5 cash cover on game day even if you're coming to eat as well. Will be back no complaints with food or staff!

Colin P.

Yelp
Food was delicious, I talked the manager into selling me a display "boot" because they had sold out of all of their "boots" ....sold me the larger boot...BONUS!!!!

Yelp
Amazing, just Amazing. It's like boarding a plane to Germany. If you're in Hot-Lanta and are looking for an amazing place to eat or socialize this is the place. Don't let the stairs fool you, if you need ADA accommodations they have that as well. Food is great beer even better and if you like model trains this is also the place for you. There are also many areas for photo opportunities. Enjoy.

Yelp
So long ago, but went for Mother's Day as my mom's gift and had the best service! I can't remember her name :( but she was the cutest! Food was amazing and drinks were great too ;)! Definitely stop by if you're looking for great German cuisine!
google avatar

Yelp
This place is super cool! It's got a beer hall set up similar to a German hofbrauhaus. The service was good, though they don't ask what drink size you want when you order a beer... So be prepared to get a liter regardless of what you want. The food was good, but not very authentic. There is a strong vinegar taste in some of the food (especially the potato salad). I do like the wiener schnitzel, jäger schnitzel, and the spätzle. The Reuben egg rolls and the apple strudel are also good. The beer is the best part and I'm partial to any type of hefeweiss. They do take reservations and on the weekends you'll need one. Indoor and outdoor seating available. No on site parking, but there are public parking lots/decks within walking distance. This place is not wheelchair accessible as you climb a floor's worth of stairs to get to the front door.
google avatar

Robin N.

Yelp
I came here on a Friday night with a large group. It wasn't that busy which is surprising because it was also Oktoberfest. My group of 9 people got the König Ludwig Platte. The menu says the Platte is for 4-6 people but everyone in my group of 9 ate and we still had food leftover. The food was great but if you are coming for food definitely come hungry because German food can be pretty heavy. My server was amazing and so helpful. I don't know about coming here that often but I would definitely come back. There's a paid parking lot next door or you can park in the parking deck across the street. This place is also pretty accessible using Marta if you're willing to walk for about 15 minutes.
google avatar

Jim U.

Yelp
3 1/2. Nice area with outdoor seating. Large beers- I would have preferred to be asked wether I wanted a 1L or .5L instead of just handed the 1L :( Sauerbraten was dry but the red cabbage was good as was the pretzel. I like the the 3 mustards being set out for liberal use.
google avatar

Josh G.

Yelp
I went for an early dinner on a Friday night and it was easy to grab a seat at the bar and the rest of the place was pretty open at around 5:30pm. You can sample the ample list of german beers on tap. Be warned, it's 1/2 or full liter pours but the prices are reasonable. I started with the Doppel and potato pancakes and apple sauce. The pancakes were a little overdone and just a bit too greasy. Good flavor still. The apple sauce was excellent----dark, sweet and a nice hint of cinnamon, but it was served way too hot. I had the single brat with cold potato salad and kraut. The brat was excellent. I mean excellent. The potato salad had a really good flavor, but it seemed it needed to marinate together just a bit more. But the texture, freshness of toppings, etc. was good. Now the kraut. It was the best of times it was the worst of times. You get a healthy portion and the flavor was an outstanding combination of sweet and savory, so if you like yours tart this isn't it. I really liked the flavor, but I wanted it to have a little bite/crispness to it and it was pretty much kraut-mush. But still, tasted amazing. $33 all in, not too bad for downtown Atlanta for a really good beer and above average German food. I'd go again to see how other things fare because it was overall good. Great service too from the bar. Oh and who doesn't love a mustard trio at every seat?

James K.

Yelp
They have 1/2 & 1 liter mugs of beer. the appetizers are great! And go well with the beer. Giant soft pretzel, charcuterie board (awesome mini sweet prickles), wurst platter was our dinner. Friends say the apple sauce is phenomenal

Matt M.

Yelp
We come here once a year while in town for a conference. Food, as usual, is amazing. This year the service was incredibly subpar and we waited nearly an hour for our checks, only to be rather rudely told if we wanted separate checks ( I know, its a pain but we have expense accounts to to answer to) it would be another 20-30 minutes. The gentleman behind the bar was awesome but overwhelmed. I will not be back... ..
google avatar

Grace P.

Yelp
Came in with a large group (20ish) and service was pretty good. I would say the food was just okay. It wasn't as flavorful as I think it could have been. I got one of the wurst plates
google avatar

Yelp
We ate here at about 5 on Saturday. It was a little busy but there were still tables available and it didn't take long to get seated. We had to wait close to 10 min before the waitress came over to take our order. We ordered drinks, an appetizer and our food. The drinks came out quickly but then it was quite a while and then our meal came out. Our appetizer came out probably 10 min after our meal. I had the sauerbraten and it was extremely dry. The gravy was good and helped but I still had trouble choking the meat down at times. The waitress was nice but did not meet our expectations, nor did the meal. I would not eat here again.
google avatar

Nick L.

Yelp
They have a fantastic beer selection with many nice and malty choices. Food was pretty good but did take a little longer coming out. Not so long that it was a deal breaker, was just a reason to enjoy another beer!
google avatar

Marina M.

Yelp
Food was delicious. My favorite food was the Spatzle. The only mild complaint was that my aunt said that the potato pancakes tasted slightly microwaved, however she lived in Germany for three months, so it may be hard to impress her with German Food from Atlanta. Service takes a little long but that may be because they had a large event taking place. I wouldn't recommend as a quick place to eat however if you're willing to wait, the food was good.
google avatar

Becky B.

Yelp
We came here for lunch on a Saturday. Initially the place was empty, which was concerning to us but rapidly filled. The food and beer options were impressive. The pretzel was served. Perfectly warm with multiple mustard options. It was enough for everyone (6 of us, including 2 kids) at the table to share. The schnitzel was perfectly fried, and the red cabbage was very good. The cheese spätzle was overly cheesy, more of a mac & cheese style, but still tasty. Though I would not consider the spätzle traditional. I was excited to get to drink Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier since haven't had in draft since being in Munich! Would love to come back on a nice day when we can sit in the beer garden!

Yelp
While being in Atlanta for a trip and Oktoberfest being still in season, I was in the mood of some authentic German food so I decided to checkout Der Biergarten. Here's my take on the experience: Quality of food: Great. I tried the Jagerschnitzel that comes with lightly breaded pork, hunters sauce of mushrooms, bacon, onions, and served over spaetzle which is a type of pasta. Everything was super flavorful and went together really well with a pint of Dunkel. Décor: authentic. There were all sorts of decorations from the Bavaria region of Germany. The place felt homey and welcoming. Cleanliness: good. The tables and bar area looked clean. Service: good. Our bartender took the food and drinks order was very regular in checking with us if we needed anything. Price: a little expensive. My Jagerschnitzel was $23 which is about $4-$5 more than other comparable German restaurants that I have been to. My 0.5L of Dunkel was $9. If you're in the mood for some good quality and authentic German food then Der Biergarten is a great option in downtown Atlanta.

Yelp
The staff here is absolutely amazing and the food is great!! Atmosphere is decent too. Wished they play some umpa music (Blasmusik) tho :) Super selection of some excellent German beers. My friend and I came hungry and we started with a mixed meat and cheese platter and a big pretzel for appetizer. For the mains we had Jäger Schnitzel and Pork hock. The Schnitzel came with Cheese Spätzle and was pretty good. The pork hock was big in size with an amazing crust on it. The meat inside was a little on the dryer side but still pretty good. Of course all this food was way to much for the two of us. Stomach hurt after. So the best remedy to that problem is a good Schnapps. I wish I would have grabbed the name of the one we had, but it was one of the most amazing Black Forest Cherry Schnapps (Kirschwasser) I've ever had and I grew up in southern Germany. Been at this place before, unfortunately many years ago as my travel doesn't bring me often through Atlanta, but I can say with most certainty, that this place is a regular stop for me when in the area. Can only recommend it.

Yelp
Had a craving for some German food so I decided to come around. The restaurant validated parking across the street at the Hilton Garden Inn for three hours, park above the fifth floor. We started with the potato pancakes. Two out of three pieces were slightly undercooked, which took away from the flavor. Got the schnitzel and brat for our entrees. Both much saltier than I have experienced in Germany. Potato salad and spatzle was too salty. Server had a fun personality but could have been more attentive.
