9 Flavorful Indian and South Asian Restaurants in Denver - Eater Denver

"Even devout carnivores won’t miss the meat at this South Indian sanctuary of vegetarian fare. Centered around luscious curries based on coconut and cashews, tamarind and tomatoes, legumes and everything from mushrooms and eggplant to okra and artichokes, the menu extends to some 20 different types of dosa and snacks like medhu vadai (lentil doughnuts) and idli (steamed rice-and-lentil cakes) — plus soups, chaats, and breads galore." - Ruth Tobias

I have never been so disgusted at any establishment in my entire life. My wife and I ordered food from Desi Bites. They served the food in what looked like I Can't Believe Its Not Butter tubs. They atleast brought the food to the table but you have to go get your own paper plates and plastic ware. Im talking cheap Dixie plates and forks that you would expect at a neighborhood picnic. I ordered butter chicken. Simple dish, hard to mess up. I ate 4 bites and had to go to the bathroom because the taste was so poor it turned my stomach sour. On the way to the bathroom there is a little alcove that looked like where they stored clutter, not professional but excusable. When I went into the men's restroom I thought I walked into a 3 day old latrine at burning man. There was garbage all over the floor. There was a cardboard box that was holding backup toilet paper and was used as a trash can at the same time. Mind you I can account for a lot of issues, maybe they were understaffed. Maybe they had a bad night. But what is completely inexcusable in any food establishment is COCKROACHES!!!!!! WHEN I FLIPPED ON THE LIGHT THEY RAN RIGHT OVER MY FOOT. Needless to say we threw everything away and I purged my stomach. DO NOT EAT HERE!!!!!!! I WILL BE CONTACTING HEALTH AND SANITATION. I wouldn't even step foot into this restaurant to get a refund.

I had an absolutely incredible experience here. The prices were not only affordable, but the food was outstanding. Having dined at several fine dining Indian restaurants, I can confidently say that this place holds its own. Additionally, the customer service was top-notch. The gentleman at the front was exceptionally kind and welcoming, which made the experience even more memorable. I left feeling truly happy to have visited!

We recently visited Desi Bites. Their self-service ordering system was convenient, and the food portions were generous. We tried the Chicken Biryani, which had a good quantity but unfortunately lacked the spices. While it wasn’t bad, it didn’t stand out as particularly satisfying. We also tried the Paapdi Chaat, but it didn’t live up to our expectations and wasn't as flavorful as we had hoped. Overall, the food was decent, but not as delicious as we'd expected. The service and atmosphere were fine, but there’s room for improvement in the flavor department.

Great food, especially for the price! The atmosphere is so laid back and the restaurant is very clean. You order at the register, grab your plates and silverware, and then they bring you your food. We ordered a lot, and it was nice how they staggered it. The afghan chicken kabobs were absolutely amazing. We will be back!

Newly opened three weeks ago - the space used to be Madras Cafe. Their food is excellent! We mostly tried the South Indian foods and everything was pretty spot on. You order up front and get your food when they call you up, and the rest is self serve. Brilliant! They have a nice setup where you can pack up your leftovers yourself and put it all in containers and bags. Highly recommend (as an Indian American who knows her food)!

Tried ginger chicken fried rice and haryali wings, Ginger chicken came as a separate gravy, decent. Hariyali wings were flavorful but some are burnt, could improve

We were convinced to try the Mandi weekend special and it was delicious! Tons of leftovers for the next few days, and we’re all going home full and happy

Yelp
Great food!! The service was fast and accommodating because I changed my order to to-go in the middle of it because I had to run for a meeting last-minute. Also, the best Paan you can find for sale in Colorado. I really hope this place lasts forever because there's just no other place that I know of to get Paan this delicious :D

Yelp
Unusual fast food indian cafe. You order at the counter and they call you to pick up when ready. Food is very good. I had the dosa and my wife had poori with egg curry. Both were excellent. The egg cuury came in a to go container. There is a station which has utensuls, napkins, to go containers, plastic bags, water, etc. You can get a cover for your to go container at the station

Yelp
This is our 2nd time returning to Desi Bites. This time for Father's Day. The service was quick and our food was fresh and hot! We order chicken and onion pakoras plus samosas. The pakoras were hot and very tasty. With a party of 6, the food was plentiful! Masala dosas, chicken kabobs, chicken biriyani and cashew chickebln curry! The vegetarians were very satisfied and the chicken lovers found the meat juicy and moist. We love the restaurant feel without the big wait! Their service and food has gotten much better since our last visit! We'll definitely keep coming back...

Yelp
It took forever for my food to come out. I ordered the Dal Makhani. My partner who came with me ordered chicken biryani and his came out automatically. 10 people were served before I was, and they ordered after me. Despite that, food was great.

Yelp
Previously called Madras Cafe, this has been one of our go-to places. They recently changed their name to Desi Bites and also added Non Vegetarian items to their menu. The last time I visited this restaurant, we ordered a variety of dosas and I ordered Idlis. I have loved Idlis, Sambhar and Coconut Chutney since my childhood in India so I know a thing or two about how good this simple dish can be. Sadly, Desi Bites was disappointing in this regard. The Idlis were rubbery - as if they had been sitting around for a while. The Sambhar that all 4 of us had with our Idlis and dosas looked and tasted like they had added water to it. The Coconut Chutney was forgettable - not even sure there was ANY coconut in it! A real disappointment. We always have frozen Idlis, Sambhar and Coconut Chutney in our freezer at home and they tasted a LOT better than what Desi Bites is serving. I LOVE Idlis and Sambhar and Coconut Chutney ... but now I am very hesitant to order these at Desi Bites - when what is in our freezer is so much better. I hope the Desi Bites management reads this and takes quality-improvement steps. Meanwhile, don't expect top quality when it comes to these items at Desi Bites.
