"Last week, Dallas Morning News dining critic Michaelene Busico reviewed Desi District, the Irving restaurant earning raves for its biryani, dosas, and more Indian classics. According to Busico, Desi District’s “C” rating from the health department was concerning, but the biryani, curry platters, and steamed chicken momos were enough to earn the restaurant a solid review from the critic. Two stars." - Amy McCarthy

We recently visited Desi District and had a lovely experience! We started with the dahi puri, which was fresh, tangy, and full of flavor. The paneer kathi roll was the only letdown—it tasted frozen and didn’t feel as fresh as the other items. But things definitely picked up from there! The manchurian was perfectly cooked and packed with flavor, and the schezwan noodles were absolutely amazing—spicy, savory, and so satisfying. For dessert, we indulged in rabdi, gulab jamun, black forest pastry, and paan—each one was better than the last! Everything was rich, fresh, and delicious. We especially loved the desserts and noodles—definitely coming back for those!

Arrived in Dallas for first time and ordered to go and was excited to try Indian food as I had heard highly of the taste in Dallas. Trying food at this place was an instant disappointment. The masala is overwhelming, in aloo tikki chaat, the amount of “khada” spices that came in my mouth was lowkey unacceptable, mind you ..Im an Indian myself and I cook decently, I dont approve this. The channa had overly tangy tamarind flavor - inedible extent, I was trying eat outta hunger by neat picking the channa/chick peas outta gravy … The rumali roti was good but then the malai kofta.. was overwhelming gravy with weird kofta balls..absolutely no malai found. Thanks no thanks for killing my enthusiasm! Last but not the least, very poorly packaged with curry floating all around.I cried inside.

If you want the taste of Indian street food within the confines of a restaurant, this place is the right one. The feel inside is very much like that of a very busy Indian restaurant in busy towns in India. Very casual ambiance. It’s order up front, pay, and pick up when ready. Fully self serve. There’s an array of North and South Indian items along with Indo-Chinese fusion offerings. Portions are large and price is very reasonable.

Google
I usually enjoy the food at Desi District and have recommended it to many of my friends from different states because of the great taste and consistent quality. However, today I had an unpleasant experience, I found a hair in the chitti punugulu. It was disappointing, especially since I genuinely like this place. I hope the team takes care to improve hygiene so that this doesn’t happen again.

Google
I am surprised with the reviews, but I thought this place was spot on, especially with their Mutton Juicy Mandi. The Mandi was truly amazing and the best we have had so far. Dosa was a little thick, but the rest of the food was spot on, and I will go back again for sure. Medu Vada and Puff were exceptional, too. The filter coffee was also delicious. Don't let reviews fool you as I think they deserve a try with the plenty amount of options they have.

If you’re considering dining at Desi District at 6451 Riverside Dr #100, Irving, TX 75039, save your time and money. While the interior is impressive, the food is consistently disappointing—like Texas weather: occasionally good but mostly terrible. The pricing is absurd for the quality they provide. Think roadside cart quality at upscale restaurant prices. Not kid-friendly either, with no special menu for kids. Here’s what I ordered: 1. Chicken Hyderabadi Biryani: For $18, I got rice with two tiny chicken pieces. Taste was nowhere close to authentic Hyderabadi biryani. 2/10. 2. Goat Meat Mandi: For over $20, I got a big bone with hardly any meat, and what little meat there was, felt like chewing rubber. 1/10. 3. Malai Bun: Growing up in Mumbai, I know how this dish should taste, and this wasn’t it. It was just sweetened condensed milk stuffed into bread with an overload of sugar. Zero malai, zero authenticity. 0/10. After-sale experience: When I complained, the staff was dismissive. They reluctantly replaced the biryani but served the same poor-quality dish. No smiles, no apologies—just weird looks. My opinion: This place is only good for tea or fried snacks if you’re desperate for a crowded Indian café vibe. Otherwise, skip it. Overpriced food, indifferent staff, and poor service. Management needs to learn the standards of quality and customer service in the U.S. A visit from the health department wouldn’t hurt either. Big NO for food.

Google
I ordered the juicy mutton piece mandi, and while the order arrived quickly, the experience was disappointing. The mutton pieces were extremely tough and difficult to chew, and I received only three pieces despite ordering four. As for the rice, it didn’t taste like traditional mandi at all—adding garam masala completely changed the flavor in a bad way. Overall, it was a letdown.

Google
i visited this restaurant expecting a good food, but the experience was very disappointing the food was poorly prepared and lacked flavor honestly one of the worst food I've had in a long time. The quality did not match the price. would not recommend unless serious improvement are made

Devika G.

Yelp
Ordered the full tandoori chicken and the mix grill to add on to a home cooked Indian meal as higher protein appetizers. The full tandoori chicken was 4 well sized leg pieces. Everything was very tender and very tasty. It was quite a bit spicier than the tandoori chicken that is usually in the buffets so request mild if your spice tolerance isn't high. The mix grill is a variety of chicken kebab types as well as one of the previously mention leg pieces. Service was okay, a little slow and didn't wasn't able to answer questions about the menu clearly. Ambiance was casual but cohesive and better than a lot of other Indian places in the area. They seem to going for like a street market vibe.

Raymond M.

Yelp
The chicken 65 and chicken tikka were okay. My favorite is the mutton biryani and garlic naan. Nice decor. Plenty of parking.

Tikku G.

Yelp
Met some friends here for an afternoon snack. It was bustling on a Saturday afternoon! They have lots of options for snacks, entrées, and dessert. The place overall is clean and decorated nicely. I opted for chicken 65 taco; I didn't like the amount of cabbage that was on it, I felt it took away from the taco. Ended up getting an upset stomach pretty soon after eating, hence the three stars. Would probably try some other options, but will be cautious...

Aamir Z.

Yelp
Had the goat and fried chicken Mandi, my regular spot for the Desi mandi. With great ambiance.

Abhishek K.

Yelp
When I walk into a restaurant, I expect nothing but the best, and Desi District delivered in every way possible. This place isn't just a spot to eat. It's where you go to dominate your hunger and indulge in some seriously top tier food. Started with Mandi. This dish is no joke. The rice was perfectly spiced, and the meat? Tender, juicy, and packed with flavor. Every bite was so good. Rumali Roti was next-level, soft and light, exactly what you need to scoop up every last bit of that savory goodness. And those lamb chops cooked to perfection. Juicy, flavorful, and with a char that lets you know this place means business. But what really sealed the deal was the service. The staff here doesn't just serve food, they serve an experience. Attentive, efficient, and making sure everything is spot on without hovering. They understand that when you're here, you're here to enjoy, not to wait. Bottom line, Desi District isn't just a recommendation, it's a must. If you want to eat like a king and enjoy service that matches, this is the spot. Get there, and thank me later. 100/100

Yelp
I love the food there.. And the biryanis were so good that my friend in DC asked me get take out and fly with me when I visited DC

Amrita J.

Yelp
One of the first Indian places I went to upon moving to Dallas, and we really enjoyed the food. They have lots of options based on what you're craving, so I enjoyed that aspect. You can get a little of everything. Tried so far: - Chicken Dum Biryani -Achari Chicken Kati Roll -Rabdi -Ras Malai All have been good, and the spice levels are just right, not too spicy in my opinion. My only complaint that I would have is that they need to be better at cleaning up after customers and keeping the common areas and seating more cleanly. It's supposed to be a place where you clean up after yourself, but there is almost always curry on the tables and just a mess. Which isn't appealing when you walk in. It's not their fault that customers don't do it, but they should make more of an effort to keep up with it. Can't wait to go back, wish it wasn't so far from me!

Nadia S.

Yelp
The ambiance is amazing for spending time with friends and family while enjoying a great experience. They provide a self-service option that is relatively quick. Here's my assessment of the food we sampled: 1. Chicken 65: Very spicy, with a somewhat mediocre taste. 2. 2-Piece Chicken Mandi: The rice was well-seasoned and delicious, but the chicken was slightly overcooked and dry. 3. Rumali Roti: It was excellent when served hot but became chewy over time. 4. Butter Paneer Masala: Highly delicious and rich in creaminess. 5. Hyderabad Chicken Curry: It was decent but didn't stand out as anything particularly special or fancy. 6. Rabdi Tres Leches: In my opinion, a must-try if you enjoy sweet and creamy desserts. This one was both tasty and indulgent.

Yelp
I had desi district at a wedding and liked it. Thus, I had high hopes of trying the restaurant. Even on a Sunday evening it was packed with people and the ambiance really felt like an Indian cafe back in India. We tried a masala dosa, chicken tikka kathi roll, and achari chicken. Honestly, none of the food really stood out. The dosa barely had enough subji, the chicken kathi roll was okay, and the achari was probably the best item but nothing special. I will say I have pretty high expectations for Indian food. They have a wide variety and maybe next time we try try some other dishes.

Lillian H.

Yelp
Lively spot for Indian fix! So many things to choose from! We got the chaat masala that was so good and spicy! Also got the tikka masala and extra naan. Fun fast food spot that is a youth hangout so be careful in the parking lot.

Richard D.

Yelp
This place never misses, their food is outstanding and the prices are decent enough. Order here probably once a week, won't be stopping anytime soon.

Linn P.

Yelp
Stopped by to try out their butter chicken. It was 30 mins till closing time and they were still pretty busy. About 15-20 ppl here. Ppl still coming in after me to order to go. I got an order their butter chicken. It was a good amount for about $13. It had Some good chunks of chicken. It was... not great. I'd say maybe even the worst butter chicken I've ever bought. It was extremely salty and pretty spicy. Normally when I order at other restaurants, I can choose a spice level. They didn't ask me a level so maybe gave me a level 3-4 out of 5? I normally don't mind spice, but my bf could not even take a bite. I took it home to adjust it in order to eat it. The amount was plentiful, although I did have to add a lot of stuff in to adjust it. This place is decently priced. My friend loves the one in Frisco. But maybe I'll try a diff location.

Patrick T.

Yelp
The best Indian food in DFW. Really can't go wrong with anything you order here. If it was closer, I'd probably be going here every couple weeks

Syeda H.

Yelp
I've come so many times and tried so many things, that I can't believe I hadn't posted a review yet! I always have a difficult time finding places that are decorated well, have a good atmosphere and also have good food. This place checks all the boxes. The art all over the walls and the puns are very cute and fun. It's a great visual to take in while waiting for food. Speaking of the food, there really is no way to go wrong. The biryani, whether chicken or paneer, have always been top tier. The chicken tikka masala, butter chicken and mutton curry are all ones I've tried and found delicious. Between their tandoori chicken and the manchurian momos I really can't pick a winner. I haven't tried many of the fusion dishes, but everything so far has been great. I'd highly recommend anyone to check this place out!

Lynn D.

Yelp
My friend introduced me to this place and I honestly don't remember exactly what I ate but it was sooo good!! I think goat briyani & samosas with potatoes inside. Everything was really flavorful & I just experimented with all the different sauces & it was all good. I would say it's pretty spicy but still enjoyable. Also portions were huge

Binti T.

Yelp
Pav bhaji was great a little too spicy for me but super flavorful!! Had the curd rice and it was amazing!!

Iztihaad H.

Yelp
A great marker of globalization, this modern and beautiful looking store has a full grocery store and restaurant in one location, and it's just one of many around the DFW area. Although I'm happy to see it, it does fall short on one half of the experience. Service here is a bit messy at the cafe, with what appears to be a lot of new staff. With the current employment climate I understand it's difficult, but having employees understand the menu well is important for a decent experience. The food here is a range of disappointing to pretty good. Personally I would stick to the snack items like the samosas and Chicken 65, because they've been much more consistent than their Biryani or curries. It really pushes them into cafe over a restaurant, but it's still worth a visit. With that being said, there's still a full Indian grocery in a beautiful neighborhood so I would definitely check it out, whether or not you know what you want to get!

Jim H.

Yelp
I stopped by for a quick lunch with a friend. This was my first time here and I was not disappointed. The restaurant is very spacious so you can social distance and they even have an upper floor. We both had the lamb lunch combo and it was the perfect amount of food. You get a side of both lamb and dal curry, generous portion of rice and some naan. The lamb curry is perfectly spiced and tender while the dal curry provided that perfect balance of texture and sweet flavor. You also get a small gulab jamun to end your lunch. Overall the meal was comforting and satisfying. I will definitely be back to try all their dishes!

Faz K.

Yelp
Great quality food and great service It's a nice cozy place to enjoy evening snack with your family . I highly recommend it

Yelp
Desi District embodies culinary excellence, consistently delivering top-notch quality and unbeatable taste since its inception. As a long-time patron of this establishment, I can attest that it has become the quintessential go-to destination for gastronomic delights. From the moment you step inside, the inviting ambiance sets the stage for an unforgettable dining experience. What truly sets it apart is its unwavering commitment to excellence in every dish. Whether indulging in traditional favorites or exploring innovative creations, each bite is a symphony of flavors that delights the palate and leaves a lasting impression. For those seeking a culinary journey that transcends the ordinary, Desi District remains the undisputed destination of choice.

Yelp
Great concept. Loved the variety and the vibe. Kudos on brilliant execution. We tried Jalebi, Chili Paneer, Fried rice and Gobi Manchurian.

Anushka B.

Yelp
Heard a lot about this place and wanted to try it out since a long time. Ambience does a super job in replicating the Indian cafe feel. Speedy service. A large variety of food to choose from. Taste wise mediocre/ decent. We ordered irani chai (liked it), pani puri (disappointed, the flavored kick was missing from it), egg puffs (very tasty), chicken tandoori momo ( had huge expectations from this item. Expected soft-large sized momos, but they looked like the narrow fried ones which are available in grocery stores. However the red masala coating on top was the game changer and overall liked the flavor), chicken roll ( expected kathi roll like something which it wasn't, but taste wise okayish), chicken fried rice (just color and absolutely no flavor). They had a large collection of pastries to choose from as well which I would like to try in next visit. A good funky place for some light snacks/appetizers (they tasted really good), better to avoid the main course. Next visit: lesser crowd, quickly served. The chicken puff here is amazing. We ordered chicken Gongura appetizer but were served the gravy instead. They realized their mistake themselves shortly after and provided us the gravy dish (overall good but salt was more than usual) complimentary along with the actual Gongura chicken served. Fish chilly was good and spicy. Thus changing the rating from a 3 to 4 star. The Black Forest was very good and the texture similar to the pastries available in India.

Sachin K.

Yelp
The shahi paneer burger special was pretty good I think. I liked how the burger was layered with lettuce, onion, veggie patty and obviously the paneer. I think it had all the components that I would expect from a burger which was nice. My only thing was that maybe the shahi paneer had a more mellow flavor and it might not have been the best curry for the burger. I got it because it was on the special menu but I heard that the paneer tikka burger is much better so I'd go for that next time! Otherwise, I tried the veg machuria momas as well and I liked how it was shaped like a dumpling since it was a fusion restaurant. The moma was very flavorful and a little spicy which I thought was a unique and interesting addition to the menu. I also really liked the interior decor and the fact that the seating was elevated. Very cool!

Newly P.

Yelp
I had the papri chaat and my husband had vada pav. We both had irani teas and then the pineapple pastry. Everything tasted fine, though I found the teas too sweet. The pastry was also a bit too sweet. I wouldn't come back unless I was in this area. The restaurant is located next to their grocery store, run by the same company.

Amanda R.

Yelp
Our favorite Indian restaurants in Irving! Great vibes inside, but this time we got it to go! Our favorites are the Chicken Tikka Kati rolls and the Tikka Masala. If you're getting to go, I would pass on the Dahi Puri Chat because it gets soggy.

Sridharan R.

Yelp
They have good ambience for a eve hangout. Their cakes are super moist and tasty. Chicken Kati roll tasted good as well. Not a fan of their dumplings.

Shashank M.

Yelp
Good stuff to eat here : Kebabs ( paneer or chicken) , the rumali roti for bread , and egg korma for curry. You'll thank me later! This place is great and has such a wide variety of food options. Service isn't great and food can take long but food makes up for it honestly.

Katie A.

Yelp
I ordered takeout from here (my go to is the chicken tikka masala + a mango lassi). I was curious as to why my drink came in a Cava cup, but everything else was pretty great. The pricing is great. They also prepared the food super fast and accurately, which was perfect since I had a limited lunch break. Would recommend!

Naveen R.

Yelp
Desi District is a good place to experience Indian fusion food in the Irving area. If you want to try burgers with a unique twist using ingredients and flavors from the sub-continent, this is the place to be. They also offer traditional Indian fare as well. For this review I tried the following items which I haven't before from this restaurant: 1. Egg Bhurji - This translates to scrambled eggs tossed in a sauce with onions, chilies and spices. Served with a side of toasted paav bread, meant to be eaten in a similar manner as a traditional paav bhaaji. The gravy was extremely flavorful although the egg in itself seemed to be a tab overcooked. The toasted paav was great and not overdone. The rest of the paav was soft and perfect to mop up the sauce. 2. Pepper chicken - Chopped up pieces of chicken generously seasoned with a lot of crushed pepper, onions and bell peppers and finally had a slightly sweet glaze. The chicken was well cooked and seasoned, but the sweet taste was not too much to my liking. 3. Chicken fried rice - The protein in the dish was cooked to a crispy finish which was different and added a bit of welcome texture to the dish, but unfortunately the dish needed salt. 4. Rabdi tres leches - A bonafide fusion dish to end the meal, rabdi being from the Indian sub continent and tres leches traditionally latin American. In this case the dairy (milk) was traditionally condensed as in a rabdi and as is with a traditional tres leches dessert, but added almonds and spice that comes with rabdi. Great way to end the meal.

Mar A.

Yelp
A mountain of rice for a tasteless beryani. Cleaner than nearby, a modern vibe, service is OK, but the food is below average unless you are just hungry for rice!

Neha S.

Yelp
This place was the first Indian restaurant I tried in Dallas. I loved the interior, which was white brick walls with creative quotes and art all over it. First for drinks I ordered the Sapota milkshake. This was SO good, the sapota flavor was just right and it wasn't too sweet. This drink made me miss being able to eat Sapotas back at home in India. One appetizer we got was the tandoori momos. These momos were fried and had a spicy flavoring all over them. I found it a bit too spicy but the flavor itself was great. We also got the paneer Kati rolls. I loved the outer layering of the roll, it's like a thinner samosa. These also were super tasty. The burgers were amazing. We got the paneer burger and the butter chicken burger. I have to admit they are a bit of a mess but it's so worth it. They quantity is huge and the flavor was perfect. We also ordered a chicken pakoda which was also spicy & flavorful. They also have an assortment of pastries. I tried the red velvet one but wasn't a big fan. Overall, I very much enjoyed the food here and hint of fusion mix.

Nitu B.

Yelp
Indian Street fusion food- this place is darn good! Casual spot , if you're just looking to grab mid-day snacks. I shared chicken momo's (dumplings), chicken noodles and gulab jamun cupcake with my friend. Everything was great! Nothing is too expensive and they've tons of food items that you could try from. Customer service was great! I had a few questions and he explained everything very nicely. Will definitely go back the next time I'm in Dallas!

Akila A.

Yelp
Desi district is the kind of place that makes you appreciate the DFW area (and lowkey want to move there). Wish there was something similar in my city. I've tried a bunch of things from here - including chaats, dahi puri (doi fuchka for us bengalis), cha, and several desserts. The dahi puri was delicious, perfectly tangy and fresh. The tea was so so, nothing special. But, the desserts are to die for. Love the creativity - gulab jamun cupcake, desi style tres leches...and many more

Monica C.

Yelp
save your money go to mcdonald's skip on the gobi manchurian and samosas does anyone know where i can get good gobi manchurian? i'm so sad please help your girl out. so simply yet so good when done right. and don't come at me with the "make it yourself " i can make a sandwich and quesadilla maybe ramen.

Alyssa C.

Yelp
Came here for chai/tea time with a friend! They have three types of chai tea with free refills for you to try. We got the small size for $1 each and shared a veggie curry pastry puff. The chai was hot and flavorful and the pastry puff was really good! Not as spicy as I had originally anticipated and paired really well w the chai. The space was bright and airy and overall a fun place to catch up over chai!

Shwetha B.

Yelp
You cannot go wrong with their indo-chinese dishes. If you like spicy, get Manchurian fried rice, uh-mazing! Regular fried rice and noodles are still good without being too spicy. I have also tried their paneer burger and loved it. I once got their thali(not made to order) and it was just alright. The desserts on display always look decadent. I have tried the rabdi gulab jamun, it tastes great but the texture of rabdi is not right. The place can be crowded at peak hours and unfortunately the tables are not always clean. Nevertheless, will be back when the next Manchurian craving hits!

Chandra S.

Yelp
Order planner curry and it's so salty, mutton biryani also not up to mark. Completely dissatisfied with food taste

Chetas C.

Yelp
This is my go to spot for Indian food when I get the hankering. It's so delicious and always hits the spot! Their chicken 65 is absolutely delicious, I always get an order of it. I also tend to order a dish of chaat, you can't go wrong with the somasa chaat! Their biryani is also great, but I wish they served it daily rather than just on the weekends.

Eleshiya J.

Yelp
Food here makes me miss india a little less. Service is always good. Ambiance is inviting.

Ana D.

Yelp
Came here with some coworkers after work. Ordered the chicken fried rice and asked to make it as least spicy as possible and they nailed it. Had some spice to add flavor but I was not dying. Price is super reasonable for the amount of food. I would argue that it's enough food for 3 people. This particular dish is marked as "Indo Chinese" so can't say that I picked a classic Indian dish but, I have heard from people that this restaurant has a lot of authentic foods to choose from. Plenty of seating and the fact that it's also a market is a nice touch. The only negative, the place does have a smell that will take some getting used to. But the food and price were on point. Would come back if I'm in the area.

Smriti P.

Yelp
Good food. Great service. Would not recommend the pani-puri here. They are not very good.

Kannan N.

Yelp
They have the best egg biriyani EVER. The ambiance is so relaxed and they have 2 floors of seating. But it is self-service, and sometimes it takes upto 15-20 mins in line just to place the order. We always place a to-go order, since that is faster

Himanshu G.

Yelp
This place was highly recommended by one of friends as this place have amazing kathi rolls which we are desperately looking for in the town. But we were disappointed by their kathi roll. We are actually from New Delhi and this was not kathi roll we used to eat and honestly Kathi Roll is not about to stuff cabbage with choice of protien. It should have some flavour but it lacks the same. But we did like their veggie momos a bit but they were not worth for i guess $6.99. Place was cozy and good for quick bites but I don't believe I won't come so far just to try their food. Update: They really have improved in a year. We love everything in their menu now

Chetan M.

Yelp
Was very good and a go to place before the pandemic. We just started going out to eat, and thought that we should give our old favorite a try again. Big Mistake!! We ordered kids noodles, which were very dry and tasted like frozen vegetables. The Chicken 555 was at most sub-par. The punugulu were meh - chutney was tasteless. The pastries that we had were the worst in the meal. The kids were so excited until the 1st bite. The butterscotch pastry was more of an Almond pastry and that too a bad one. The new ambience is great, good seating upstairs and down. Although felt hot inside which is expected in Texas heat. Food leaves much to be desired.

Anant Kumar M.

Yelp
Visited on 01/06/24, Saturday, 1-2 PM: Food - 1. Veg Burger was awesome. It was with Lay's classic chip, fresh burger, vegetable patty with subtle spices and low / no frying oil, layered with spicy mustard sauce. Cheese and salad was perfect for accompanying texture and taste. It was served within 5 minutes of order! 2. Chole Bhature- It was perfect. Tasty chole, no leftovers or over soaked oil of bhature. Portion was perfect for single person and great size for sharing. Served hot. Important to note and improve- hot chole was served in Thermal foam plastic containers. This could have been avoided to paper or steel. 3. Veg Dum Biryani - portion, flavor was good but vegetables were less to minimal with too much of black pepper. This was below average quality and served with all plastic. Accompanying Raita and sauce was very small and less the required. Toilet and general ambiance was clean and acceptable. 3. Tea: Small portion, good quality but no plant milk options. Sweet and fat milk was higher than healthy range. The spice were got subdued due to sweet.

Sahaja M.

Yelp
Ordered Dahi puri and Bhel puri. Dahi tastes good. Bhel puri is okay. Ambience is good compared many other Indian restaurants in Irving. Service is faster than expected.

Stephanie U.

Yelp
This is the Indian food Mecca in Irving. This area is always bustling. Moderately priced, authentic Indian. Soooo good. I have tried just about everything on the menu, veg and non veg and it's all delicious. They can also alter the spice level for you (I like it spicy). The mango lassi is delicious, the chai so rich. The restaurant is also clean and the employees are friendly

Dina M.

Yelp
Food was good, service was fast. We definitely go back, best of all we didn't have to wait long for our food considered how busy they were that night.
