Design Within Reach

Underwhelming - A vast space but with basic inventory. It's a massive, open showroom designed with a minimalist, Scandinavian aesthetic. However, the sheer square footage only served to emphasize the disappointingly sparse inventory. While the store had a high volume of chairs, their overall quality was somewhat basic a bit comparable to those found in a mass merchandise store. Despite the upscale presentation, the lack of selection and design profile means this store does didn't meet my needs for furnishing a high-end project. I did however find an interesting light fixture.

No one from Design Within Reach is responding to my emails regarding a missing part that they failed to send to me. I have made full payment yet they are not responding numerous emails that I sent.

The service was really good here. Very polite employees who were very knowledgeable in the products they sell. This place is a Herman Miller dealer, so I went in looking for a Herman Miller Embody gaming chair, they had the chair, let me sit in it, told me all of it's functions and I left a happy customer with a new computer chair.

Bought two high quality office chairs for our home. Excellent customer service, great customer service and follow up. Sales associate was very knowledgeable and helped to answer all of our questions. My husband and I both work from home quite often and needed chairs that would be comfortable for 8+ hours per day. We wanted to actually be able to sit in the chairs in a store to ensure good ergonomics and fit for each of us. This store fit the bill for us as it had many different styles to try out. Very highly recommend this store!

If you love mid century modern and value that the reproductions are licensed and very high quality, this place was made for you. It's simply awesome. Chairs (huge assortment), tables, couches, lighting +++ Costa Mesa store/showroom is huge. We especially love their reproduction chairs, like the Barcelona and Egg chairs. Very highly recommend Design Within Reach. PS: You can browse online too and they'll send you fabric samples so that you're confident before ordering.

Expensive, but better styles and much better quality than Ikea. Service is phenomenal. They explained the fine details behind the qualities and attributes of the furniture. Versus the Ikea explanation which should be, "Don't use or it will break and fall apart." This place is the only place I could find in the area that sells Herman Miller office chairs unless I want to go to Downtown LA.

Called the DWR service line earlier today to edit an order. I don’t usually write reviews, but the person I called was shockingly rude and condescending about some simple but important questions I was asking. Absolutely terrible service. It’s a shame because they do have a nice collection. A good collection ruined by their terrible, incompetent customer service. Won’t be coming back.

Before Design Within Reach was located in SoCo, we would have to drive all the way up to Los Angeles to experience the comfort of particular furniture pieces. Thankful that they decided to expand the number of stores and offer to show more pieces in their showroom. More online stores should do the same.

This is the largest DWR we've been to but I must say, for the size, every time I leave the store I am always underwhelmed with what they have available. Recently, we've been in the area and stopped by twice. Parking is fantastic here and located in a great plaza with lots of other interior decor stores to explore. I met Tish last week and she was super helpful with our purchase and answered all the questions I had. Our Pasadena location was undergoing construction, so our usual representative wasn't available. Tish was very respectful about it but we decided to move forward with her anyway due to our circumstances. My customer experience working with Tish has been excellent but I prefer the LA locations for selection.

The rating is not for the furniture, as I imagine Herman Miller speaks for itself at this point. The rating is for our sales associate, Weiju. Super friendly, patient, and attentive. Someone needs to put this woman in charge of training, at the very least. I'm only mad at her for selling us two chairs when we went in for one! Had a bad experience in the past with this location. Luckily I met Darren C today who was very knowledgeable and friendly. Definitely one of the best showrooms in OC for brands like STUA, Moooi, Gloster. Thank you for the info on STUA Darren. Also, the new showroom layout is a great improvement.

Reading the reviews makes me realize they were ordering things during the supply chain issue and does not reflect the amazing service and top notch product that this store has. My original plan was to in fact just schedule an appointment, sit to try out, then order online. However, upon entering, I received some of the kindest service that is near par with Michelin level restaurants. Weiju Chen was the person that helped me and assisted me with identifying my chair, how to make adjustments, explains that the chair comes fully assembled and delivered to my front door, and gave me the breakdown of 12 year warranty and other important details that made me to decide to buy directly from the store. Highly recommend for high end furniture for your home to give a modern look!

Mikaela helped me out with the purchase of a Herman Miller Embody office chair. I ultimately knew that this was the specific product line that I wanted, but Mikaela was incredibly helpful with showing me fabric swatches and different customization options to get the exact chair that I wanted. Although lead time wasn't a concern for me, she took the careful effort to inform how certain customization options could impact delivery time. Although I was quoted a 5 week lead time, the chair ended up getting delivered completely assembled in just over 3 weeks. I had a great experience and I'm proud to own a piece of functional art in my home office.

This is one of my all time favorite furniture stores. Architects and designers joke that the store is design within reach but price is out of reach. If you have a thick pocketbook and money is not an issue then this is the store for you!!

Though first line sales staff worked really hard to complete the delivery of our order, no other part of the process worked smoothly. It took us over 4 months to receive our "in stock" authentic Eames chair and ottoman because the first two we received were damaged and obviously used (and likely rejected) by prior buyers. Yes, this actually happened and no management-level person at the CM store could give a rip. How could a company with any sort of reputation turn a management blind eye to used, unboxed, undocumented merchandise being delivered to their customer -- not once, but TWICE??? The only "Oh my, we are so sorry" response came from the first line staffer and the corporate social media department, the latter because my very annoyed postings on Instagram were perceived as a bit of an embarrassment to DWR. (A small price adjustment followed our second damaged chair delivery. Was it to persuade us not to post our unhappiness? Likely.) If you make ANY PURCHASE from DWR, make certain you document the delivery from the moment it is unloaded from the truck and also while it is being unboxed. Then photograph and thoroughly examine the item before you accept it. Authentic items should be in a sealed factory box with full and complete ATTACHED PAPERWORK. There might even be factory wrapping which states that it is not to be removed before being accepted by the customer. Our first two deliveries were taken off the truck unboxed and had NO paperwork and no wrapping whatsoever. Our third and final delivery was in a Herman Miller sealed box with complete documentation attached to the chair itself. No explanations for any of this were ever given by management of DWR. + Great looking furniture designs + Friendly staff + Modern decor + Clean/welcome layout - Designs are certainly NOT "within reach" I'm a big fan of this store since there aren't too many options out there if you're looking for modern looking pieces....well unless you find some knockoff from some shady online site. The staff is very friendly and always willing to help and spend time with you finding sizes, colors, and offering other options. My one complaint is the obvious fact that the designs are very much not within reach. I get expensive furniture, but the prices on some of their pieces are laughable. A fake leather uncomfortable chair on 30% clearance as a floor sample for $10,500 (regular price was over $15,000). Seriously? Some of their prices are reasonable, but some are just too out there for me. I consider myself far from poor, but a $15K chair or a $9K small nightstand (yes I would need to buy two) is a little ridiculous.

Some nice stuff but it's a poorly laid out floor room. We were shopping for chairs and stools and they are scattered all over the place. Some were even on display in shelves so there was no way to actually sit in them to see how they feel. The Herman Miller chairs were not labeled well. Just not a practical experience. Service is mediocre, no one raised their head or said hi as we came in and looked around. You would expect a higher quality of service for a higher end store.

This item is currently in stock and should be shipping from our warehouse in a few weeks. I will be keeping an eye on this order and following up with you as soon as I have information about shipment. Denzel DWR Customer Experience This email was on 8/03/21 and now they are saying 2/2/22 to get my replacement bed cover that was mistake on Design within reach company. They keep prolonging it Terrible customer service and UKAY delivery service did not even notify DWR for replacement as promised on 7/13/21. I had to call customer service and they did not even know of this issue. Original order was placed on 3/13/21 and never mentioned the long 4 month delivery dates. Both DWR customer service and UKAY delivery service get "F" for terrible service after they take your money.

I came here specifically looking for a table with a size, style and color range. The store was not formally "open" yet, but we were given a personal tour of the items by a sales associate. She was more than helpful. She showed us floor models and their inventory on her iPad. She also offered to email any new inventory they may receive matching the specifications I gave her. Brand new store. Formal opening this weekend. Overall, this store is a great option for looking for more design savvy items and staff. I am a fan.

Ordered product in March, with a promised delivery of April 4th. I called on April 4th and was told this was back ordered to end of June. Called store early June to check and was told they did not get a response from corporate but would continue to check. I called corporate and was told it would not be received until September. I appreciate the fact there are supply chain problems, however they forget about customer service in not keeping me informed of delays. I had to check with them. Further they didn't care and simply told me this is happening a lot in their company and If I want to cancel that is okay with them

If you are a fan of mid-century furniture and many retro items, that if you do find them are so freaking expensive you can't justify owning them, then THIS is the design store for you. They specialize in Mid-Century and Danish design. There are so many gorgeous pieces in this store. The staff are very well versed on the different designers and when their pieces were originally made. They have an entire Herman Miller section. The light fixtures alone are worth coming it to take a peek, and they have many accessory items that are very well priced. If you bring in your room dimensions the staff here can help you design your entire room and choose pieces that will maximize the potential of any space.

I was out browsing the shops at SOCO after a nice charcuterie and cheese platter at Serfas, and ended up here. If you are a fan of mid century modern furniture, this is really a must see kind of place. Kind of a Herman Miller museum of sorts, all of it new. I plopped into an Eames lounge chair just for fun, and sat in disbelief at the comfort. I used to have one of these, an old one, but not the original Eames, and loved that chair. This one was literally a hundred times more comfortable. My God I wanted this, so I checked the sticker. It was the first item that I actually checked the price on. It was somewhere between six and seven thousand dollars. Funny, thinking that the original chair, made of plywood, was meant to be affordable, functional furniture for the masses. I continued to sit for several minutes, as that was the only way I could enjoy this chair, as it would be a highly unlikely situation where it would ever end up in my living room. A friendly sales person came up and started asking questions about how I liked the chair. I expressed my opinion, perhaps a bit exuberantly, and got up and made my way to some other furniture, and my goal of finding the right sectional. I found it, and pretty quickly. Right in the front of the store sat a white leather sectional. I was a close clone to the couch I was meaning to replace, so I made the mistake, again, of sitting down to test it out. Looks here were terribly deceiving. This was way, way more comfortable than it looked. Again, I had a hard time getting up, just wanting someone to bring me a TV and some snacks. Our sales person eventually gave up on us and moved on, stating with a forced smile that we were free to enjoy the couch, and offered to bring us information on it. We politely declined, after seeing the tag. Whew. $14,000 and change. At that price they would surely throw in a nacho cheese fountain... This place has some really nice stuff, and a staff that isn't too pushy. Browse for fun, unless you have quite a bit more cash or credit than the average bear, in which case by all means spend away. I can't imagine not being satisfied with the furniture here. Just keep in mind that when they say "Design within reach" they mean that you can actually "reach" the furniture from a standard height, or slight horizontal extension.

They have a great selection of modern furniture and outdoor as well. I love making my purchases here for my clients. I also love the atmosphere of this place, very open and spacious floor plan. It makes you want to come all the time. Always greeted by a Sales Associate with a water bottle in hand when you first walk-in, I felt like I am flying First-Class. My Rep is Aimee Etters. A very pleasant lady and always eager to help. I love their accessories as well. The designs are very innovative and yet classic mostly a reproduction of famous designers from past decades as well as new emerging designers from all over the world. I came here this time for mainly outdoor furniture. I do want to point out my favorite pieces are: -Frank Gehry Left Twist Cube (comes in 6 awesome colors), makes great seating near the pool. Very durable. -Midcentury Sunshade Umbrella (White, with adjustable shade), reminds me of Dubai. -Lucca "3 Series" Chaise with Teak Arms (very yacht like). -Bordato Illuminated Planter (White 23" or 30" Dia.), great for evening conversational piece. All these pieces make a great boutique modern lounge feel. I highly recommended!

DwR has some very beautiful pieces and the staff are courteous. The positive review end here. I have found their follow-through, communication and customer service to be substandard for a member of the MillerKnoll family. Looking at many of the other reviews, I see I am not alone. On a related note, the email option for contacting DwR Support on its website conveniently doesn't work because "Special characters are not accepted at this time," although I didn't use special characters in my messages. This problem with the website has existed for months. They say they are now working on it. The main issue: My husband and I have purchased a few items from DwR, but the nightmare began when we ordered their Miro bed (Item No. 100169763) on 11/25/2021 through the regional DwR store in Costa Mesa. The original shipping date was 02/16/2022 (11 weeks), and we patiently waited for that date to arrive, checking the DwR Order Status online with the estimated shipping date, as the date approached. A couple of days past the estimated shipping date, the online info changed to 02/23, and the estimated shipping date then continued to be bumped out every few days, until they had changed the date 13 times, finally settling on 03/29. Nothing happened on 03/29, 03/30 or 03/31, so I called both the corporate office (1-800-944-2233) and the regional store in Costa Mesa on 04/01. The different offices gave me different estimated shipping dates in early and mid-May. Also, the DwR Order Status stopped updating its estimated shipping date in March, and it remained unchanged at 03/29 for months. They apparently stopped pretending. Now it remains unchanged at 06/14. In early May (05/05), I called the regional DwR store, and was given a new estimated shipping date of 05/28. I was patient. On 05/30, I called the regional DwR store asking for an update. I called back again every few days, and finally received a call back on 6/20 (3 weeks later), with a new estimated shipping date of 06/27. I was also told that the warehouse had the headboard and that the other components had been off-loaded on 06/15, but it can take up to two weeks for items to be entered into the system, hence the 6/27 date. Nothing happened on 06/27, so I called the regional DwR office on 06/29, 6/30 and 07/01. On 07/01, the regional office finally gave me a new estimated shipping date of 07/15. I also called the corporate DwR office on 07/01, and there I was verbally given a new estimated shipping date of mid-September from the Customer Support Representative (CSR). When the corporate CSR emailed me back saying she is double-checking the new estimated shipping date, I took the opportunity to write her back with my larger concerns about the constant delays, the misinformation, the lack of communication, and the overall unwillingness to offer any accommodations to me as the customer. The only thing DwR is willing to do is cancel the order, which simply gets them off the hook, and ignores the reality that we have been without a bed for months, we still don't have a bed, and that we have spent countless hours and efforts to track the ever-changing (fraudulent?) info from DwR. Since 07/01, the corporate CSR has been more proactive and communicative with me about the shipping date for this order, although she - nor management - has responded to my larger concerns. Kudos to the front-line staff, but it's not enough; we still don't have a bed. Today, 07/07, I was given an updated estimated shipping date of "late July/early August" from the corporate CSR, which would be at least 245 days or 35 weeks or nearly 8 months. This update was simply given without any reassurance, let alone evidence, that this date is any more accurate than any of the other estimated shipping dates that DwR has given me. Today, the DwR website says that the Miro bed is available to ship in 17 weeks. I doubt they are being honest with their current customers either. I understand that supply-side problems and shipping delays are real, but that does not adequately explain these delays (now 224 days and still counting), or that the shipping ETA has been changed over 20 times, or that I have been told different reasons, details and shipping dates by DwR depending on whom I talk with there, or that at no time has management (from the regional DwR store or from the DwR corporate offices) reached out to me. Instead, management has taken no responsibility, but have left it to the front-line workers to be polite while being able to offer no assistance of substance. What reassurances can DwR give for when our bed will actually be shipped and delivered? At this point, I'm not sure, short of actually delivering it. What steps can DwR -- or MillerKnoll -- offer to regain my trust in its business? Again, at this point, I'm not sure, but they haven't even tried yet. I'm tired of being patient and ignored. AITO?

Let's start with the good thing about this place (aside from great looking furniture) 1. Mikaela was amazing at following up and addressing my concern. She excelled in this difficult job. 2. Because they (DWR and/or Ukay) messed up, they refunded the shipping. Thank you for that. 3. The salespeople at DWR was really helpful. 4. The coffee table looks great in its space. So, we are happy. 5. I'll do business with DWR again in the future because that's the only place where I can find one table I like. If I end up buying from DWR again, I ask to please step up your game. I hate writing a bad review. The below is the review that applies for both Ukay and DWR: I ordered from DWR and Ukay is the delivery service. These two companies messed up several times on the same order (coffee table). 1. Attempt no. 1: DWR delivered the glass to Ukay without the bottom of the coffee table. Ukay did not check. I waited almost 4 hours for nothing. 2. Attempt no. 2: Ukay dropped the glass and damaged it 3. Attempt no. 2.5: DWR was in the middle of inventory and could not ship the replacement glass (1 week delay) 4. Attempt no. 3: They were late (by 25 minutes). To be fair, no. 3 and no. 4 were not anyone's fault. The seems that many things go wrong on this one particular order and the compounding effect magnify no. 3 and no. 4. For all the wrong things that happened 1*

Recently bought a nice office chair from this location, and overall my experience was fantastic. First off, this is an upper-scale store that carries Herman Miller and I had been eyeing an Aeorn chair for a while. I was looking to sit in one before I bought it, and this is one of the few stores I could find that actually had a display model I could sit in, not to mention sells single quantities to the public. A background on the chair - the Aeron is a pretty expensive ergonomic chair that has been in production for 20ish years so I knew it would be good, but didn't want to spend a lot of money on something before trying it out. Right when I walked in I was greeted by Mikaela and I told her what I was looking for. She spent a lot of time with me going over the details of the chair while I sat in it and inspected. She was very knowledgeable, professional personable (and funny); she really knew her stuff and made the whole process easy. I decided to buy the chair, and she got me out quick and painless. She said she would email me a shipping confirmation as the chair shipped from their central US warehouse, and would probably arrive Saturday or Monday. Sure enough the next day she was true to her word and emailed me the confirmation and the chair did arrive on Saturday. I'll be thanking myself as I approach my 30's without a screwed up spine from the crappy chairs I owned in the past. Very pleased with this store and their honest and efficient sales staff. If I need more quality furniture in the future I'll be sure to return here, and would very much recommend this place for anyone looking for a high quality chair or anything else. I will never purchase anything from them again. They have an awful return policy and their items are EXTREMELY over priced. First off dont even bother coming here. They do not carry any items in store. Anything you want will be shipped to you so just purchase off their website, though I recommend not to purchase anything from them. Secondly their merchandise is very cheap. I purchased a $400 pendant lamp and it came with the worse installation hardware I have ever seen. This $400 lamp was probably worth $5 of material. Talk about a markup and profits!! For $400 I was expecting something that was sturdy and at least came with some installation instructions. They highly recommended hiring an electrician to install the lamp. I'm more then capable to install a light as I've installed everything else in my house, including a heavier and more complex lamp. I think what really turned me off is the customer experience. I felt completely ripped off when I received this light and the cheap quality of it. Yeah, I saw it hanging in their showroom but seeing something hanging from the ceiling doesnt really allow you to see the quality up close. and had I know the cheap and complex hardware that was included to mount this light I would have never purchased it. Shame on me for coming here and my lesson has now been learned.

I walked in looking for a new office chair. I was immediately greeted by Tish who was more than happy to help. I quickly decided on an office chair with the assistance of her experienced input. The chair I ordered arrived damaged, no fault of DWR, and they immediately expedited a second chair that arrived in proper condition. Ultimately, the chair was not a great fit for me and they completely understood, got me a return label and helped me find a chair that was better suited for me. All things considered I would not have considered myself the easiest customer with multiple returns and adjustments however they were more than willing to happily assist to get me what I needed. I highly recommend anyone who is considering getting a Herman Miller office chair, use Tish at DWR, they are knowledgeable and can assist in working directly with the manufacturer, rather than me working with a corporate customer service. 5 stars for customer service and 5 stars for being so accommodating.

This is an update to the same order we placed back in mid November. Interestingly enough once I wrote my first review, they called me the following day to schedule a delivery. Can't complain about that. My fellow designer that placed this entire order had both our numbers on the paperwork since one chair was going to my client. It has been 2 months since I've been receiving calls from DWR's delivery service trying to deliver stuff to my client. I spoke to them a few times and told them that my portion of the order was completed and that they needed to contact the other designer for her client's delivery address. I even had the other designer call them and remove me from their delivery contact... It is really upsetting that people can't get this simple task done. I was patient through the entire month of Dec. and beginning of January when they must have called me at least 5 times trying to deliver furniture to the wrong address. This morning the caller told me he was on his way to my client's house! I told him he needed to stop his route and call for a different delivery address! Boy what a mess. We both have decided to boycott DWR since this was such a bad experience for both of us.

This review is for the "corporate" DWR. The local showroom is nice and the salespeople are very helpful, but once you place an order be prepared for total ineptness. First of all, it is very frustrating to go it there and find something that you want to buy, but nothing is in stock - you have to have it shipped to you. The shipping prices are exorbitant. But, to make things worse, it takes forever for things to get to you. My items took over a month to get to me, even though they were confirmed to be in stock when I ordered them. My local salesperson tried to figure out what the holdup was, but he could not even get a straight answer from their corporate. I finally called their home office myself and talked to several people. They always said that they would get back to me, but never did. I also left several phone messages and no one was courteous enough to call me back. They carry great furniture, but their prices are absolutely full retail. When you add on the shipping, combined with poor customer service, I suggest that you look elsewhere to buy. I try and support my local businesses, but next time, I will probably either order straight from the manufacturer or another retail outlet. There is just no excuse to charge the expensive shipping charges that they do and then have to wait over a month to receive in stock items. All along, no one could explain to either me or my salesperson what the delay was.

My 1 star is for all the furniture I want, they have. But as far as the "designers" aka salespeople go.... well, they can stand to loose the attitudes & pretentiousness bec at the end of the day, u want our monies & you're still in sales!!! & pls remember the name of your store! Remember the scene in pretty woman where Julia Roberts was snobbed by the sales lady bc she prejudged her by her hooker outfit? Well that happened to me except of course I'm not a hooker & I wasn't dressed in 90s chanel but I'm always decent & stylish in a very non-trying way! Anyway, I was treated the same way when I walked in & I inquired about a knoll saarinen tulip table (the sz I want is about $5k) I've been waiting to buy my whole adult life! I left the store very annoyed by this older lady whose name I shld have asked & her snottyness! (Oh but i will go back & get it & repost her name so u all can be warned!) I am not your typical orange county newport beach socialite but shit! I'm a human being & tho I may not be wealthy, I want good quality stuff too! But DWR salespeople pls don't judge a book by its cover! I wanted to go back there & tell her "im buying the damn table but not from u!!! Give me another salesperson with a soul!" Lol but I didnt! Anyway, I still bought the table but not from DWR, I bought it online from a NY store that offered free shipping thts roughly $350 saved! (Yay NY!) I'm slowly redesigning my living room next getting rid of my 4yo furniture & getting my final really good quality pieces my kids will actually fight over after I die lol.... but guess wha! I won't be going to design within reach for any of it! I don't condone nor will i ever support businesses who do not treat customers with respect or decency! Period!

- Locale Destination - It's on Hyland Ave and 405 freeway in Costa Mesa. It's in SoCo - shopping mall that mainly has furniture stores and some restaurants and shops. Very hippy and "OC" shopping mall. It's located right by the entrance of this mall. The shop is big and spacious. A lot bigger than the one in Santa Monica. White, simple and sleek design. The staff offers you a bottle water once you get in. Plenty of parking. Style: Over the top Italian modern, sleek and minimalism design - the lines were always super clean. That was my old impression about this place. But I feel like they got more "approachable" lately. It's still VERY expensive compared to others, but I feel it used to be much more like "you wouldn't see anything under $3k" and "the stuff you only see at fancy restaurants or houses with minimalist design". Now they added more "mid-century" inspired, "organic" flare furniture throughout the store. They are still sleek and modern, but not so much of classy meaning of "minimalism" anymore. They look much more playful and approachable than it used to be. The pricing got more approachable, too. Price: It's still very expensive. But good furniture is never cheap. FYI: The literal definition of "Design within reach" - within reach to the people who have an abundant disposal income. They never meant to be targeted to people who enjoy "ikea". I tell you the truth - lol. But I feel they have much more affordable pricing than before (I love furniture and architectures. I check out those a lot to get inspired by designs and colors). You can get the same stuff easily online now with a little cheaper price tag. But remember, the shipping for furniture costs a lot. It could be cheaper to buy it at the spot. It's good to get in touch with sales associates. Furniture is very expensive and long term investment/commitment. Take your time and use available resources - my 2 cents. Varieties: Mainly tables, chairs, shelves, lighting, and beds. Not so much of accent pieces. "Trial section": In the middle of store, they have several colored & textured tables and chairs. If you wanna try mix&match or unified look, you can try it here! Dark brown table with white or light brown chairs - How do they look? It's pretty cool you can play around before you purchase them. I like simplicity in general, but could enjoy being playful by "miss & match". This is a great section that other places won't offer. - Conqueror's Deduction - You see their furniture everywhere - restaurants, furniture/design magazines etc. I do like "modern" design in general, so I think this is a good start to look around for your furniture hunting. Once you see here, the price would be most likely going down a little bit ;p This place is very expensive but got a great taste for modern design lovers like me. I think more classy Victorian type design is much more expensive than modern design in general. Why not you like?

What an amazing event for DWR and Hay!!! Dino was so welcoming and showed me and my friends around, offered us treats and he even got us a spot to make Christmas wreaths. It was soooo much fun!!! We truly felt welcome and will certainly be back for quick gifts at Hay and any furniture needed for the home. Thank you!!!

I had a great experience at this store. It has a chill vibe and I love that the sales associate was really just there to help me choose what's best for me and tell me what they offer in their selection with no pressure for a sale. Thank you Trish for helping us.

I expect a hell of a lot better from a place that sells this level of product. The floor staff is ok, nothing special considering the fact that they're trying to sell you a $10k chair or whatever other fancy piece of furniture you're in the market for. Once you buy the item and it arrives in less than pristine condition, they barely apologize, as if you're making a big deal out of nothing. Listen, if I'm paying thousands of dollars for a piece of furniture then it better not have any scratches and if it does then you should apologize like you mean it. I'll just buy my Eames furniture elsewhere in the future.

Excellent service, great selection of classic designs. Still a bit pricey but so much better than the cheap knock offs out there. Very comfortable beautiful furniture. If I actually had the money to throw around I would buy two chairs that would cost a total of 11k.

Design within Reach has nice pieces, but why would I buy from them when I can get the same products from Design Business Interiors, large selection, excellent customer service and a like to support local based businesses

I have to start by saying I am a perfectionist. When it comes to furnishing my two homes and offices, I am fantastically particular. I met Houra Kahni about a year ago at the Costa Mesa DWR. She was immediately engaging and helpful. We had done some research online so we knew roughly what we wanted but she spent quite a bit of time showing us options and variations to what we had "thought" we wanted. With her help, we were able to completely refine our choices. She helped us meticulously furnish a living room and dining room for our downtown highrise condo. The order was perfect with the exception of one major challenge that I imposed -- I needed everything ASAP. We were planning a large holiday gathering. She worked tirelessly to get everything to us in time. But one problem. Our 96" marble table top arrive cracked. She looked to find local marble manufacturers who could turn around a massive table top in 48 hours. Nothing was available. Instead, she shipped the floor model to my home at no cost to make my holiday dinner a success. Who goes to that level of customer service anymore? Earlier this year, we purchased additional furniture and just now, we re-did two complete bedrooms. She arranged overnight shipping for half the order so that their "white glove" service staff could assemble all pieces. Everything worked like clockwork, something that rarely happens in construction and furniture purchase/installation. We're going back up again tomorrow as she arranged a purchase from DWR's eBay site for a Barcelona stool and other items. She keeps us posted on items we like when they go on sale. She answers my emails when I just have random questions about furniture and what might go well with what we've purchased in the past -- even when the pieces I'm interested in aren't from DWR. Houra Khani is amazing. Make sure you ask for her. I've been shopping at DWR since it opened some 15+ years ago. She is the best representative I have ever had the pleasure of working with.

I have to write this on behalf of my aunt whom I both live with and accompanied with when we visited this location. My wallet isn't deep enough (yet) to shop for myself but luckily I got to put my two cents in for my aunt who was furnishing a vacation home in upstate New York. I have to admit at first when you enter it could feel like entering into a museum but heck, I learned that some of this stuff is in museums! They give you water which is a nice touch, and the gentleman who's name escapes me but if anyone frequents the store I'm sure you would recognize him by his "colorful" clothing. He then introduced us to Tyler who once he was done with whomever he was helping prior gave us great undivided attention. My aunt always jokes around about being treated like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman, being prejudged but Tyler definitely was welcoming, knowledgable and not for a second did we feel that he didn't think we had the money to buy their furniture. (she ended up spending upwards of 12K) The main reason I'm writing this review is because just recently catching up with my aunt she showed up the communication AFTER we left their store between Tyler and herself. Now I know they are salespeople and making money but who emails for two weeks back and forth answering questions and sends over computerized images of what the furniture will look like in her home (and MULTIPLE options) AND follows up with a thank you card? True customer service is something that is awfully hard to find these days and for that for myself and especially on behalf of Alexandra, we both thank Design Within Reach and especially Tyler. Definitely will be back once my budget allows me to move beyond hand me downs!

After 33 years in our home we finally remodeled. When our house was completed, we took our time to research and endlessly shop for our coastal modern home. Not only did we find what no other store offered for our dining room, barstools and other pieces at Design Within Reach, we found the most knowledgeable, patient and professional consultant, Alfonso Medina. He was invaluable throughout our purchasing process. There was never a push to sell. When there was an issue after purchasing, Alfonso handled the issue quickly and went over and above to satisfy us. It's nice to know there are places like Design Within Reach AND people like Alfonso that know what customer service truly means. Devoted clients, Max and Aileen

I am in the market for a new couch went in the showroom here and no one even bother to get up from their computers much less greet us and advise us of any new products or anything at all. I wouldn't spend my money here with the poor service.

Frankly, I don't understand the high ratings here. Everything is overpriced. A bathroom trash can cost over $200. Really? The furniture appeared to be cheap and look like it will break sooner rather than later. All the reviewers call it modern furniture. I instead call it plain. With the prices here, you can get much higher quality for less elsewhere.

Should be called Design Without Reach. Super expensive. Service OK. Similar merchandise can be found elsewhere for a better price.

I purchased a dining table from Design Within Reach. When it arrived, it was seriously scratched up... to the point where DWR's "Furniture Medic" said there was nothing that could be done, and I needed a new table. I requested DWR order a new table, which they said they did. Two months and about 10 un-returned phone calls later, I made a personal visit to ask someone for an answer as to why I had not received my table, or a return phone call. The response was that they did not order a new table. Unfortunately, by this time, the table was discontinued. The only reason I am giving two stars is because Curtis tried to remedy the situation by offering a discount on any table in the showroom... I could tell he felt very bad about what happened and wanted to make it right. Unfortunately, nothing else fit in with my decor scheme and space. If DWR had returned my phone calls, I wouldn't be so upset. Unfortunately, it took a dozen un-returned phone calls, a personal visit, and nearly 4 months to resolve the situation.

Hmmm.. I am not sure how many stars i should give for this showroom. I have had mixed experiences ranging from awesome to What The Heck?! But, i will try to be fair.. 8 out of 10... The experience is usually okay. I often buy stuffs from DWR both Costa Mesa, Pasadena, and Hollywood one. Lets talk about the good stuffs first: The showroom is huge and have more items in the store that you can examine closely. Props for that! During the pleasant time, service is rather courteous. They are very accommodating and helpful with your questions. They say hi to you at first and don't hover around you making you feel uncomfortable. Transactions are easy peasy and quick. Now the bad stuffs: Pricing is steep. Why do i say steep? It's because you can actually get the exact same item (and i mean authentic licensed item -not replicas) from local smaller stores around los angeles for usually 20% less (and unlike DWR, a lot of them throw in free shipping too). In fact, nowadays, i shopped only floor samples at dwr.. Since that is the only time DWR actually can be competitive with other stores. Now, onward to the rather unpleasant experience i have (drum roll please...): Honest to God, depending on how i dress when i get into the store, i would get free water and a bit more friendly faces. So, when i want them not to bug me, i wear shirt, short, and sandals. When i want them to take me seriously, i wear long pants, a tie, and a fancy shirt. But, to be fair, DWR costa mesa is NOT the only DWR that does that. In fact, almost all DWR does that selective service. Last time i went there, i dressed rather fancy because afterward i am going to be on a date with my wife to a broadway musical in costa mesa. That is the FIRST time, i got a friendly hi from the south east asian looking man (whom i believe is the store manager). He usually just worked at his station rather grumpily. And, avoid any eye contact with me. This time he smiled brightly and say "good evening" to me. I guess i got points for my fashion choice that day. Or maybe he has better day that day. I am not offended though, since i could not careless about how others view me. But, again, some people might. So, store manager, please smile more. You looked nice when you smile ;)

Like the website, like the furniture, HOWEVER, we were followed THE ENTIRE time. Seriously, I backed up at one point and almost backed into him. We were both wearing our DIY Sunday clothes, paint-spattered jeans and hoodies and my 8 year old ALWAYS dresses like a homeless urchin (he likes what he likes!) but I think the weird stalker behavior was way unwarranted.

I went to this store for the first time today. AMAZING! Hands down the best DWR I have ever seen. It is huge. And, you can see almost everything from the catalog and more. The staff is super friendly (no attitude like some of the LA locations) and very helpful. Thank you DWR for coming back to the OC.Can't wait to come back.

Treated very poorly by the sales associate that was "helping" us. She acted like a furniture snob. Decent furniture, a bit over priced.

Lovely iconic furniture... clean, minimalist design. Have worked with Tish and Jimmy and they gave excellent interior design support. Quality is great. As a side note, I love SoCO Mix, the area where the store is located. There's always so much to see and do. Especially great on weekends, when there are often catered events in the stores.

talk about knowledgable staff, I think they have to pass a whole bunch of tests before working here. I walked in looking for a few things, most are out of my price range but the things in here are things you'll see in a design magazine. The staff gives you a water once you enter so if you're thirsty, go there! they have all these neat items so worth browsing!

I love DWR. Not being independently wealthy, I can't afford to shop there very often. I wanted to take advantage of the Knoll sale, and Mikaela was extremely friendly and inviting, and also careful to back off and just let us browse until we had questions. The layout of the store is open and everything is merchandized beautifully. All staff we passed were extremely friendly and encouraged us to play around with the (expensive) products. Mikaela helped us with our purchase and made the experience totally simple and pleasant. I will definitely be back to visit.

Hi Curtis, I wanted to commend you on hiring Ashley Washburn in the Design Within Reach Costa Mesa store. I have been in physical therapy for two years following a severe back injury and my physical therapist recommended that I purchase the Aeron chair to help alleviate some pain since I sit for almost 7 hours a day. After speaking with Ashley on the phone, she was very pleasant and said she would be more than happy to help me when I came into your store. I visited your store in May of 2013 and Ashley showed me various executive chair options before narrowing down my selection to the Aeron chair. She seemed truly concerned about my needs and wanted me to feel comfortable with my decision. After a few days, she called me back and I had already decided on the Aeron chair. When the chair arrived a couple of days ago, I had quite a bit of discomfort and thought I made a horrible mistake! I decided to give Ashley a call and she immediately understood my concerns and offered to come to my office in Newport Beach to fit me to the chair properly. Even though I wanted her to come by, I did not want her to make an extra trip if it was not necessary. After speaking with my husband last night, he thought it was best that she come into the office rather me guessing if I was in the right position. So, I called her today and without hesitation she said she would be more than happy to come by. I was almost taken aback by her kindness and willingness to help. Before she left my office, she asked me to touch base with her in a few days to see how I was feeling. I am hoping that the chair will work for me and that I would not have to return it or make an exchange. Customer service is really a non-existent art form today and when I experience such a high amount of care, I definitely want to express my appreciation. I am a principal of my own financial planning business and wanted to let you know how professional, kind, helpful, and genuinely caring of a person Ashley is. I do business with many furniture and interiors stores and this is by far my worst experience. The amount of service issues, undelivered promises and rude behavior was a shock to me. Most all of the furniture they sale can be bought elsewhere so I suggest getting it...elsewhere. Or at least order online.. do not visit this store. I ordered some chairs for my dining room table and needed the shipment held as I was building a new house which would not be finished till after Christmas, Charles, my sales person was well aware of this as it was clearly stated in an email exchange. Yet he shipped early anyway, causing the shipment to be sent back. All the while I was none the wiser, I called after moving in and asked for chairs to be shipped and was incorrectly told they were already on there way. I didn't find out till the day the were suppose to be delivered and weren't that "oops, we didn't notice they were actually on the way back to the warehouse." No one apologized, no one took accountability. Charles refused to request expedited shipping, promised it would be to me in 5 days. 5 days later, no chairs. Hadn't even been shipped yet. Talked to Alphonso, supposedly he is a manager (??), and requested that he or his manager help me as Charles had failed. Not only did he not call me when he was suppose to, but I received no call at all. Had to call again to get an email from the person I requested not handle things going forward. The final straw was the last time I spoke with Alphonso. By at the most unprofessional sales person I have dealt with, I'm shocked he is a manager. Again, no apologies, no accountability, interrupted me, was short and rude. Many other promises and errors than listed above.. and no place to sit for my company or planned dinner parties.

Pretty darn expensive! $15,000 for a leather couch. Nice design and quality. The sales women look down on you. Offer no help but pretty nice design furniture.

Holly was super nice. Came in yesterday with my girlfriend. No pushy sales people just a friendly helpful staff. Still undecided which sofa we are going with but glad to know we have a great staff to help us.

We love DWR and have been shopping here for years. We started visiting the So Cal store after we moved back down from the Bay Area and we were fortunate enough to meet Tyler. Everyone in the store has always been extra helpful but Tyler has been instrumental in helping us get settled into our new home, especially since he was mindful of our having newborn twins. I wish we had an empty house so we could have Tyler help us fill it from scratch. At least we were able to get a lot of new items for the new house. We love it all and we love Tyler!

Design Within Reach is our favorite destination to source authentic modern design and we are so happy to live near one of the largest studios in the country. We value the undivided attention we receive when we stop by. Curtis has assisted us with a number of client & personal purchases, makes sure we understand what all of our options are and keeps us informed and updated all the way through to the delivery process. It's one of the few places we stop by if we are in the area, even if we don't need anything. The history and evolution of the product is so rich with design history that we look forward to stopping in to chat with Curtis and to learn about what's new. In a world where online shopping reigns, it's worth it to shop in person at DWR for their customer service, the value of seeing and touching the product in person and the myriad of custom choices you have while shopping in the studios. Kudos to Curtis and his team for creating a great design experience.
