"The Shattuck Avenue space that once held the Kebabery now has a new tenant serving croffles and Korean corndogs. Dessert Cafe opened at 2929 Shatuck Avenue on Saturday, October 14, East Bay Nosh reports, giving sweet tooths a taste of bingsu, mochi doughnuts, and more." - Lauren Saria

Google
Croffles and tiramisus ordered via doordash. Tasty, would order again.

I ordered at the wrong place and then had to go out of my way to get it. Today I ordered the same thing at my closer location, and despite it being freshly made and not cold the one at this location was by far yummier. Nice workers, it was warm inside, and I liked the atmosphere

Google
Tried the strawberry crunch Tiramisu and Tiramisu Snowflake. It's truly an iced dessert that's soft like snow. Chocolate shavings and powder are not overwhelming. With ice cream and Tiramisu cake on top, it's nice to share w a date. The strawberry blob had very few strawberries, unlike pictures you see. Biscoffs w strawberry cream was a disappointment.

Good desserts, especially the Bingsu. In person ordering system could be better but that's unrelated to how the food/desserts actually tastes. Been there a few times, and they did Mess up my order once, so service could use some improvement.

Very cute dessert place. Not expensive.

Great spot for late night sweet cravings. I got the Nutella cheesecake & crème brûlée. Tried the cheesecake and ate the whole slice in minutes. Loved it! Will try the creme brûlée a different day this week

The hotteok is not very good. The inside should be more syrupy. Adding syrup on the outside or as a side does not help. Crispy rice hotdog is very good!

Yelp
One of my go-tos for ice cream, the portions and combinations are incredible. It's also always interesting to hear what kind of music is playing in there, could be anything, really fun. Unfortunately I do have two criticisms: both times I've gotten boba, it was so soft it was almost goop, glomming together and clogging the straw and being a snotty texture, so I can only recommend popping boba here. My second criticism is that although the service is all automated until you're called to the counter to get your food, the POS systems on the screens you use to order are set to automatically tip so you have to go out of your way to not tip when no service occurred. People have opinions about this, but if you know how it works legally, I don't know why you'd be for it. Again, these employees just make things and put them on the counter, it's not really a service position, and companies make that my business by trying to make me tip by default before I've even interacted with anyone while I pay almost $20 for a bowl of ice cream.

Yelp
Went downhill ever since the change in management :( This place used to be called Fengcha and had the best Tea/boba combination in all of downtown Berkeley IMO. It also had great seating for those that wanted to do a little work or have a conversation (albeit a bit loud w/ the music). But now...since the ownership change/ name change. The quality has really gone south. The boba is not very consistent, often hard. A lot of times they will be missing things from the menu, and they're staff is not as responsive to customers. I once saw 8 customers in the span of a hour walk in and leave b/c their E-kiosk wasn't working and there was NO staff up front to take their orders. It's sad this place went to shit ... :/ The new management has done a poor job taking care of this place....

Yelp
This location seems to be in the same place where Feng Cha is located. We came last night after kareoke with a group of 8. The entrance was Dessert Cafe, but inside on the wall it said Feng Cha. I don't know if you can order from the counter or not, because there were 3 self ordering kiosks available and no one at the counter. A majority of our group ordered croffles. They said it was tough and tasted stale; it was difficult to cut into. We have tried Dessert Cafe in Concord before and their croffles were fresh and crispy. The bathrooms "weren't working" either. There was a sign that said "No Public Restroom". Legally I think they're supposed to have their bathrooms open/fixed for customers to use if they are a food service establishment. It took awhile for our bingsoo to come out, even though there weren't many people dining in. Also, looking at other people's photos, our mango bingsoo did not look like theirs! The presentation wasn't the same and ours just look sad compared to what was advertised. No ice cream on top either. The bingsoo was good though.

Yelp
There are three ordering kiosks by the door to help the line move quickly. There are tons of seating- which I'm sure goes quickly. The staff were feverishly working in the back- the menu is pretty diverse, which is cool there is something for everyone. Tonight I got some delicious goodies to sample. Uber tiramisu and a delicious smoothie/milk tea non dairy treat... so mango, so demure (see what I did there!!! Lol) The taste is as good as it looks! And it is difficult to get ube these days that taste real. Delicious options!

Emilee L.

Yelp
Their service is excellent and their food is amazing especially late at night. I got the tiramisu snowflake and the popcorn chicken.

Jessica K.

Yelp
We were looking for dessert after dinner and this place popped up. It was close to where we were and open late. There were so many delicious looking options it was definitely hard to choose. There were a few people inside, but it was super chill. Quiet with some music playing. We got our orders in a few minutes. The croffle. The croffle. If I hadn't had so much at dinner I probably would have ordered another. I'll probably be back sooner than later. Sending anyone who will listen.

Yelp
After learning that this had opened, I wanted to give it a try. I ordered the strawberry cream waffle to go; though they sell croffles too, I don't particularly like croissants so I figured the traditional waffles would be better. They also sell boba and bingsu, so I'm hoping to try the latter sometime. The strawberries tasted fresh and just the right balance between tart and sweet. The cream is sweet, and very pink. The waffle was cold, though this may have been intentional to avoid melting the cream, and I wish it was a little more crispy. Overall, it was decent and I like that they have a large menu, so I'm sure there will be plenty of things for anyone with a sweet tooth.

Yelp
I ordered desserts here for my colleague and I on a Friday night through DoorDash. The order was delivered under the time it was quoted for - that made me excited. However, the desserts we got were disappointing, overall. We got the oreo cheesecake, tiramisu, and creme brulee. Perhaps this is because it was delivered vs eating there, but the Creme Brulee was watery and it did not have the traditional carmelized sugar crust. Creme brulee is usually firm like a custard and the shell on top is typically hard. The consistency was like a soup and they did not put enough sugar on top to harden the crust more or because the custard was too soft, it made the crust lose it's texture. Overall, the flavors were there. We did finish it! The oreo cheesecake was alright. No overall complaints about it. The tiramisu, which was claimed to be famous, was disappointing. The portion size was huge! Way too much for two people, but overall, it had very little flavor - I couldn't taste lady fingers nor coffee/espresso. We chose not to finish it. Maybe next time, I can go there to try some of their Asian desserts, but the European desserts - I do not recommend them. If I am ever in the area again, I may give it a shot to try other things.

Yelp
I would have wanted more toppings on my bingsoo as I was left with a lot of ice in the end. Pretty good price compared to other dessert places.

Cris A.

Yelp
Service wasn't bad but only kiosk ordering. Card only. The food was amazing my daughters loved every bit of food we ordered. We had to try a little of everything. Restaurant itself wasn't like the hip ambiance most boba/dessert places are doing nowadays. Overall I wouldn't mind coming back for a quick boba/dessert run. I loved their canned boba! I bought extra one and it was still VERY FRESH the next day!

Yelp
Dessert Cafe made a fan of me on my first visit. The previous restaurant wasn't here very long, although it showed flashes of promise. I'm more than happy with the replacement and all the sweet treats offered. The interior is the same, except for the new signs with the name of the restaurant. I suspect it may be the same owners. It's easy to order from the kiosk just inside the front door. My croffle was awesome. I have to admit that it was the first one I ever had. Croissant + waffle = delightfully light and delicious. It was pretty cool that my waffle was made fresh and the chef whipped up the batter just for me. Still, there's something about the waffle wasn't quite gourmet. I was just expecting or hoping for something different. I like mine to be crisp on the edges with a soft interior. Instead, the effect was more like a blueberries and whipped cream version of an ice cream sandwich. Five stars for the croffle and three stars for the waffle. Four stars total for now.

Yelp
ight so da guyz wanted sum mochinut. I be tellin em nah not rockin wit mochinut fr. But they wanted dessert so im like ight. n im orderin the tiramisu waffle. not even lyin ts was good. that's p much it i mean shoot.

Yelp
Pros: Pricey but great taste. They have all the desserts from cakes, shaved ice or bingsu, mochi donuts, croffles, elotes and milk tea. We ordered a thai tea, oreo tiramisu and jalapeño poppers. They were all delicious and well prepared. The interior is spacious with many tables and seats, great for groups. It was mostly empty when I got there Cons: The wait was bad since they receive a lot of online orders. We went there on a Thursday night and had to wait for almost a half hour for the three items. If you order when they're less busy however, I'm sure they could serve at a more appropriate pace. At least the music was good Parking may be challenging since it is located on a busy street

ZhiCheng Z.

Yelp
We came in and ordered the Tiramisu Shaved Ice. The Tiramisu was the worst! Took one bite and tossed it. The shaved ice bowl was 90% full of ice. Only 10% was filled with chocolate shavings. Never coming back again!

Rachel J.

Yelp
Please bring back the horchata mochi donut!!!! My favorite of their mochi donuts by far!! The crème brûlée donut is amazing too!!!

Yelp
Dessert Cafe is a fun little spot with a huge variety of treats to eat. Open till midnight, you can definitely stop in after dinner or just out with some friends. Stopped here with my mom to get dessert after a disappointing dinner, and we were happy with what we got. My mom ordered red bean bingsu and I got mango bingsu. Very light and airy shaved milk snow with tasty toppings. We also asked for these Togo and were able to get ice packs for a dollar, great deal. Ordering is super easy, you just do it at a kiosk at the entrance. The people were helpful when we had issues with our order too. The only reason I am giving this place a 4 star instead of 5 is because it can be pricey for the dish. We ended up spending $40 for just these two ice desserts. It's very tasty and I will come back though!

Yelp
Amazing late night spot if you're looking for quick decent various foods at fair prices. Mango Lemonade with mango boba and lychee jelly: very tasty and refreshing! What I expected it should taste! Green Apple Lemonade with green apple boba: usually I'm a bit picky with green apple flavoring but this was pretty good. It wasn't too artificial and it paired well with the sparkling lemonade Nutella cheesecake: the cheesecake is pretty solid. It's chocolatey and rich. Not much of a Nutella flavor but still a well made cheesecake. It's more of a chocolate cheesecake. Must try if you love chocolate! Banana Nutella Croffle: croffle was crispy and buttery and the crème had a nice subtle banana flavor. I do wish there was more nutella but overall it was also well made Brazilian Cheese Bread: typically this isn't my choice to eat but it was super tasty and chewy and cheesy! I would definitely eat here and again! I'm glad I found this late night gem!

Yelp
First time ever having a snowflake dessert. Both my 13 year old and I really enjoyed it! Fluffy, light, not too sweet + ice cream and cake. Definitely recommend.

Alexis K.

Yelp
Dessert Cafe is a nice little spot for desserts like bingsu, waffles, and cakes. It's easily accessible by the 18 bus and there aren't a ton of parking options (we were lucky to find parking on the street). The cafe is clean and simple on the inside, with a Snackpass kiosk up front for ordering. Service is quick and friendly, and if it's a little slow, they'll bring your order up to your table. We got the Honeydew Milk Tea, Banana Milk Tea, and Strawberry Cheesecake snowflake (their version of strawberry bingsu). The bingsu was definitely the star of the show, with a ton of strawberries, a generous scoop of strawberry ice cream, and even a whole slice of cheesecake, which we ended up taking to-go. The snowflake has a nice texture like all bingsu, but it's definitely a little less creamy than some of the other ones I've tried since it's not topped with condensed milk. However, it was still quite tasty and not too sweet at all. The Honeydew Milk Tea and Banana Milk Tea had a thicker texture than most milk tea, which wasn't preferable but the boba itself and the flavor of the drinks were still good. I will be coming back to try some of their cake selection! Give it a try if you're looking for unique, fun desserts at a nice price :)

Yelp
This Dessert Cafe location is away from the busy area of Berkeley, but they are located on a busy / main street. Parking is street parking here and it may be a big difficult, as this is a busy street, but there were a couple of spots right in front of the store both times I stopped by. Not much service - you either order ahead of time for your order (which I highly recommend, as they were a bit slow to get your desserts / order out) or you can order on their kiosk inside by their entrance. I stopped by 2 times so far. On my 1st visit, I ordered a croffle - the employee was a bit more efficient and friendly, and she let me customized my order as well. The 2nd time was a bit more of a mess, as I ordered next door at Mochinut, but I guess after a certain time at night, they close the storefront next door and they are merged, I ordered a Korean corndog at least 20 minutes ahead of time and my order still was not done when I arrived, even though I received a notification saying it was. Upon finding that they were closed next door, I walked in here and saw a lot of angry customers who were waiting by the front counter - my order finally came out after another 15 - 20 minutes, which defeats the purpose of ordering ahead of time. I feel like they do not have enough employees working because they had 1 employee in the daytime managing both this side and the Mochinut next door and 2 employees at nighttime, who manages both sides. On my 1st visit, I tried the Strawberry & Banana Nutella Croffle, but I substituted the Nutella for Biscoff crumbles instead and a Milk Tea with boba. On my 2nd visit, I had the Crunch Cereal Mozzarella Rice Hotdog again (ordered from Mochinut next door, but made / picked up from here). The croffle itself was bit dry and hard, and I wished it had more of a mochi / soft texture, but the cookie crumbles, cream, & fruits were yummy - when eaten together, it is not that dry. The milk tea was a bit overly sweeten, it was not bad, but I would not come back specifically for their boba. The crunch cereal hotdog was not as great as the 1st time I had it from next door, as it tasted burnt / overcooked this time, and way too sugary with the cheese being a bit hard. Overall, good variety of desserts / snacks, but I would recommend coming in the daytime / afternoon for better tasting snacks and faster service.

Yelp
Glad to see a dessert place be open late till midnight. Service was great. You order through a kiosk and wait at a table for your name to be called. Metered Street parking available on the busy main street of Shattuck. I was here with friends to grab a taste of their desserts. We ordered the tiramisu snowflake, it was golden. Just know, it's blowing cold A/C once you settle in. Perfect for when the sunny hot days come around. Although it's strange to have them not fill up the milk teas to the brim of the cup, yet leave a quarter portion. Mango Lemonade was alright, just tasted like soda at that point. I'd come back for the croffle or bingsoo.

Yelp
Good place for just a quick late night dessert , but grab a croffle. Went here for the first time last night, around 9pm. Ordered online. Wasn't too many people inside, few people picking up. The vibe is deli style. Very much more a grab and take to go place. Customer service was average , not a lot of interaction since it was a pick up order. The desserts were good, the croffle is what stood out. I ordered a strawberry Nutella croffle, red velvet cake slice, and Oreo cheesecake. Croffle had the best flavor, I just wish it was warm! I'm my opinion the red velvet had good sweetness, but the cake was dry. The Oreo cheesecake is more of a regular cake , not a cheesecake. There's no cheesecake portion , it's a layer of Oreo cookies and cream, this was just ok. I enjoyed the dessert , the croffle was certainly the best. Would go back for the croffle ! Just need to warm it up. Just realizing now I didn't take a picture of it.

Elaine L.

Yelp
Found myself here with a friend late on a Saturday after looking on yelp when another place closed early. It looked a little dark driving by, but it was well lit inside, and there were tons of seating and lots of menu options. We ordered by kiosk, but the person behind the counter kindly confirmed the order. I tried the brown cheese vanilla ice cream croffle, which sounded wild but was great--super flaky, not too hard croffle and the little cheese shavings were just salty enough to be fun. My friend's milk tea had a strong tea flavor and came in a cool can. Will be back to try other things!

Aaronandkinu A.

Yelp
Sooo good! A fun experience. My husband and I were on a date night and this was a new spot. Worth every calorie!

Kim S.

Yelp
Okay so this was our first time trying this spot out. Honestly for what I paid I am disappointed with what we received. I ordered the guava lemonade and it didn't even taste like guava nor lemonade. Matter of fact it tasted like soda with a pink color syrup. I went to ask for more guava and it still tasted like soda...which I rarely drink. Also order dumplings and it was served with no sauce to dip. Same for my Korean potato corn dog...no sauce was served with it even though I ordered it with the "house made sauce". Unfortunately there was a language barrier with the staff which wasn't helpful either.

Denise Y.

Yelp
***This is about a doordash order, never been in the store before. Initially I was hesitant bc they have so many different items, but (almost) everything was so good! Okinawa Milk Tea was nice & sweet & it came in a super cute cup with a soda can top. Potato Original Corndog was super good! Probably my favorite thing. Real Elote was good, most surprising. It seems like they grill it. Belgian Mini Cream Puffs (12 Puffs), were ice cream puffs. Worth the price imo even though they're kinda small. Strawberry Cheese Cake like a cheesecake from the freezer section. The Oreo Monster Snowflake was the only thing that was disappointing, not worth 18$. Maybe like 10-12. But even if it was that price, I still probably wouldn't get it unless I'm sharing it w at least two other people.

Victor P.

Yelp
There were a variety of choices, but it was difficult trying to decipher through a touch screen with photos. There needs to be a human to allow for questions, and requesting ingredients to be held or added. Also, cleanliness around the tables and chairs and entry door were questionable. Overall, not a fun experience.

Richard P.

Yelp
Great mochinuts and the owner is super nice. The Tiramisu Crofle was my favorite. Late night dessert isn't easy to find. I'm happy this spot is open.

Shufei L.

Yelp
came with my buddies for some late night snack. open til midnight in a safe neighborhood. it's clean and hip. the food came out fast and we enjoyed our time there! trying to take my family there next!

Angie H.

Yelp
We stopped tonight since all the other places we go were closed. So glad we found this place. Was a bit skeptical since it was empty when we arrived at 10:30 PM and the tables were not cleaned. The staff were friendly and cleaned the tables on request. We had: the matcha azuki binsoo: amazing taste and serving is large strawberry cruffle: wow! the waffle is coated with a coffee crunch - so good and banana, nutella waffle: on par with taste, but a generous size We'll definitely be back for more!

Siyi S.

Yelp
Too bad. The boba tea is not made of real milk. The place is not comfy to stay and the Mochinut is displayed without disinfecting protocol.

Jenny J.

Yelp
Literally my new favorite cafe spot in the Bay Area now. This Korean cafe has cream waffles and croffles!! The dessert and drinks are not too sweet and just the perfect level of sweetness. The owner was also very sweet and the orders came out super fast. We went around 10pm and the shop seemed busy with togo orders but not too much with in person orders. There were a lot of seats and the space was very cozy. I want to try the Dalgona Crunch coffee next time I go. Will definitely be going here regularly!

Tim G.

Yelp
I was in Berkeley having dinner with family and we decided to try out Dessert Cafe. It was after 8pm and we were looking for someplace open. This spot was not far from where we had dinner and open late (until midnight)! It's located in a pretty convenient spot and there were lots of parking right out front! As you walk in you have to order from a kiosk and pay there also. You get a number and are able to track the status of your order and wait until it is done. They have lots of items including bing su which is a Korean snow ice dessert. We ordered a mango bing su, two different kinds of boba teas, and some mochi donuts. From the time of our order we waited 30 minutes for our order to be done. Once done, the mango bin su looked really good and tasted good. The boba teas were not very good. My daughter had a strawberry boba and it didn't taste like strawberry at all. I'm sure it was a mix or powder but the taste was off. She didn't finish it. The donuts were decent but I don't think they are made on site but the best part was the bing su. The inside of the cafe had a decent amount of seats but it looked like they do a lot Door Dash delivery business as I noticed many delivery people coming in. I would probably come back and try another bing su and possibly other items but I may just choose to go elsewhere. This spot probably caters to the college students and night owls so it's good for them but if you want good ambiance and comfortable location to have some sweet treats with your friends and family then try a different spot.

Tatiiana P.

Yelp
El ube milk tea a sido el mejor ube que he tomado. Y el Strawberry croffle uuuuuffff delicioso

Cryst W.

Yelp
No joke one of the best bingsoo I've ever had. We got the mango one and the fruit was fresh and it was just the perfect amount of sweetness. There was a lot of seating, which was nice and the bingsoo also came out quickly. Love that it's open late night because I always get the worst sweet cravings at night. Highly recommend if you're in the mood for something sweet!

Nancy W.

Yelp
Was looking for a late night dessert after a show and found Dessert Cafe. Such a fun place! Great food - I had the Biscoff Waffle. OMG so yummy! Staff were friendly and helpful. Definitely will go again!

Jack N.

Yelp
The food is terrible. Had an elote, korean dog, mochi donuts. All bad, greasy, tasted like a freezer. Service? Terrible - touch screen, which is fine but they won't even serve you a cup of water to wash the grease out of your mouth. No napkins even when asked. The staff was nice enough to get us a role of hand towels from the bathroom. Ambience is depressing bleak. This place should just close

Julian S.

Yelp
The house made ube ice cream and chocolate dipped strawberries are tasty. A nice spot to grab dessert.

CJ A.

Yelp
Came in and the place was empty. I wasn't acknowledged by either of the employees at the counter, but quickly figured out you order at a kiosk by the door which I did. After waiting a while I went up to the counter to check on the status of my order and was told seven minutes. The only order ticket on the counter was mine so I sat back down figuring it would be ready soon. Ten minutes later I went back up to the counter to see one of the employees working on my order and again wasn't acknowledged until he had put whatever he was working on in a fridge, While I was waiting I noticed that the mochi donuts were on trays right next to where I was standing, which seemed to be unsanitary. When the employee finally came to help I told him about my order and he went to the fridge to get what he had been working on earlier. He removed the cover and grabbed his phone to look at something then used the same hand to take sprinkles and put them on my order. At that point, another employee was rushing in with box and I asked for refund because of the length of time and because I saw how unsanitary their food handling was.

Jaqueline B.

Yelp
I ordered the snowflake cheesecake and omg! It was so fresh and delicious. Also ordered a croissant with strawberries and it was also amazing! The desserts price is very fair and they packed everything with a lot of care. Thank you

Kenzie E.

Yelp
Came in to pick up an order and the guy was amazing. He ran everything himself 10/10 service
