The 10 Best Spanish Restaurants and Bars in San Francisco | Eater SF

"Owned by a pair of Madrileños who yearned for a place that felt like home, Destapas might be the most authentically Spanish restaurant in the city — and it’s also open for lunch. The modest, open kitchen definitely feels like it’s right out of Old Town San Sebastian, but the vision here is definitely of a Madrid-style tapas bar, churning out creamy serrano ham croquetas, cod-stuffed peppers, and perfectly seasoned paellas. The outstanding house blended vermouth is made with lemongrass, hibiscus, peppermint, lemon, and other “secret ingredients.”" - Adrian Spinelli

Google
The food was exceptional, especially the grilled octopus, which was perfectly tender and full of flavor. The sangria was also amazing - refreshing, well-balanced, and beautifully served. The service was excellent from the moment we arrived. The staff was warm, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout the meal. Without a doubt, this is a place I would highly recommend. Great food, great drinks, and outstanding hospitality - I'll definitely be coming back!

Google
As Spaniards, we have high standards when it comes to Spanish cuisine, and this restaurant truly exceeded our expectations!!! The food was absolutely delicious, with top-quality ingredients that made every dish exceptional. The service was impeccable, Raul (owner) was super attentive, friendly, and professional. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, making the whole experience even more enjoyable. If you’re looking for authentic Spanish flavors and outstanding hospitality, this place is a must-visit!

Google
We had an excellent experience here. My husband is Spanish and we have a tough time finding Spanish restaurants that he deems “authentic” (none in Boston, and only one in NY)- but were lucky to find this one shortly after moving to SF. The croquetas de jamón were phenomenal with great flavor and texture. We also tried the classic paella which was spot on! The vermut de la casa was also a nice treat. Luis was super attentive and knowledgeable. We will be back (and plan to try the squid ink paella next!)

Delicious tapas in a lovely atmosphere! A beautiful restaurant and a great menu with good vegan options marked. We had a lovely time here - we really liked the white anchovies with chips and Spanish omelette

Google
Really lovely food! Many vegetarian options. I lived their potato bravas and the vegan pallea! It was delicious! 🤤 If you’re looking for good Spanish food, look no further! 😊

Google
We stumbled upon this Spanish tapas spot in the Mission and were absolutely blown away. From the moment we walked in, Raul, the owner, welcomed us warmly and was kind enough to accommodate a third seat last minute. The hospitality alone made us feel at home. We ordered boquerones, grilled shrimp, garlic shrimp, beef empanadas, and a squid ink seafood paella that was rich and tasty. Everything was bursting with flavor and felt authentically Spanish. It was so good we forgot to take photos! The sangria was a standout refreshing, not too sweet, made with real fruit, wine, and a hint of sparkling water. It was great to learn that Raul and his business partner are from Madrid and opened this place during COVID what a gift to the neighborhood. We’ll definitely be back!

Google
The food and service was absolutely fantastic. Great outdoor seating with very comfortable heaters. The food was truly authentic and tasted great, especially also all the seafood seemed very fresh. Our favorites were: The octopus and calamari The croquettas The Jamon Iberico plate The Paella Mixta The red wine (Rioja Reserva) and the Sangria were amazing too! Highly recommend!

Google
I was just in Spain last week and Destapas is as good as you can get in San Francisco. Great value, no scam “mandatory” fees! Love it!

Yelp
My friend and I had a really good TGIF dinner at Destapas. We shared the anchovies, pear and arugula salad, octopus, paella mixta and basque cheesecake. For any Spanish tapas place, the octopus is really my test dish and this version was done really well - it was perfectly cooked and tender with a great smoky flavor. The anchovies were a great starter and the salad was just nice and refreshing for me (I've gotten very zealous about making sure I eat my greens). The paella mixta was our server's recommendation and it had a good amount of meat and bomba rice that was cooked just right (it had a little bit of crunch on the side, which I love since I am a fan of Korean bibimbap). The basque cheesecake was a great way to finish this meal. Service was good, fast and efficient. We were done in about an hour. The restaurant has a bit of casual elegance to it and is a lot cozier inside than what it looks from the outside. With tax and tip, this was around $75 per person - it's a really great value for the food and the experience. Highly, highly recommended!!!

Yelp
Just visited again for a simple and fab dinner for my birthday. *Each* and *every* thing wowed- all the while being organically-related, and dancing together. The albondingas! I do *not* like meatballs or meatloaf- but: *these*, *these* are another beast and are delicious. The staff's super-friendly and attentive...they all seem and sound like Spaniards.

Yelp
Ok quality tapas. Good service. Reservations made on Google just a couple days in advance for a Thursday lunch. STARTERS * Smoked Trout Deviled Eggs ($13) - 3 stars SALADS * Pear & Arugula Salad ($15) - 3.5 stars CROQUETAS * Serrano Ham Croquetas ($14) - 3 stars. Filling quite dense, and I wished for a crispier outer layer. MEAT & POULTRY * Oxtail in Red Wine Sauce ($21) - 3 stars. Oxtail was quite fatty; there were a lot of bits we had to pick out while eating. Potato puree was smooth and nice. PAELLAS (for 2) * Seafood Paella ($40) - 2.5 stars. Rice was quite hard, seafood didn't taste quite fresh.

Yelp
Destapas is now my favorite Spanish restaurant! I feel like every item on their menu is the best version of itself. Even though I went alone, I ordered as much as possible, and each item was impressive. Portions are perfect for a snack with a drink. Grab some sangria and Spanish wine. Specifically, the octopus is cooked in such a unique way that challenges your idea of what octopus can be. Paella was great for one, because it's crispy and shallow, with such great flavor. The basque cheesecake was creamy and refreshing too, nothing quite like it. It's not just burnt on top- the texture is the star.

Yelp
Good wine, good food, attentive waitress and cute patio. Loved the oxtail and potatoes plate but it could have had more beef.

Yelp
Went here for dinner with a friend. This is a cute little restaurant with lots of solid tapas. We started off with the chorizo croquettes and beef empanadas. When we bit into our croquettes, we noticed they were NOT chorizo, and upon further investigation they were actually crab. This was definitely concerning, as shellfish is a major allergen and that mistake could seriously harm somebody. They ended up swapping out our dish, but TBH we liked the crab one better :/ The empanadas were great, definitely the best dish of the meal. We also ordered the paella. It was alight, but I probably wouldn't get it agin, as the flavor was a bit off for my preference. Overall a decent meal, but definitely be careful about verifying your order if you have any allergens!

Yelp
The tapas and drinks were super fun, and the ambiance and service was also perfect for date night! The service was fast, with most of our orders coming as soon as one finishes. The gambas and pan con tomate were fresh and tasty. The croquettes were a little too big with a lot of cheese. But I loved the spanish omlette and it tasted like the one I had in Madrid. The canelones were decent, stuffed with mushrooms and veggies. The flan and sherry were great! The flan had a nice orange citrus taste that made each bite rich and not too sweet.

Yelp
This is a solid tapas spot in the Mission with friendly service and a casual atmosphere! The food quality here is definitely on point. We particularly enjoyed the chorizo croquettes, which were perfectly crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. The beef empanadas, with their flaky pastry and well-seasoned filling, were also a hit--a special shoutout to their deviled eggs, which were truly delicious. I also enjoyed the grilled octopus and the Mushrooms in garlic sauce. HEADS UP on the happy hour menu, though--there's a bit of confusion with the pricing. The deviled eggs appear listed at $1 each, but they ring up at $7 per egg; I apparently couldn't decipher the correct number in the font they chose. While they were tasty, $48 for deviled eggs was definitely steeper than expected. I would recommend double-checking prices when ordering during happy hour to avoid surprises on your bill. The food quality makes this place worth checking out despite the pricing confusion. If anything seems unusually low, just clarify the prices! I look forward to seeing how their Seafood Paella is on our next visit.

Yelp
Space was cozy and perfect for my bestie's birthday lunch! Cute modern Spanish style, not the cheap fake sangria BS you would see in the 90's. The staff was friendly and from the same region as my grandparents. Well, at least one of them was Basque. You could tell the food had Basque influences because the flavours were very rich and full of texture and flavour. We ordered a few tapas, a salad and of course the Basque cheesecake for my bestie. I am a huge fan of tortilla and theirs was not my favourite, I like "poco hecho" and this was more well done. I travel to Spain every two months so I am a tough critic:) everyone agreed this is a hidden gem! I will be back often. This will be my new secret place I take people:) sorry about the absence of photos but the food was so good and we were so hungry!
google avatar

Katy Y.

Yelp
I came here because of a friend and I thought the food was good but not spectacular. I liked the patatas bravas and Destapas salad the most. We tried two paellas and both were solid but I've had better elsewhere. Dessert was actually quite disappointing - the basque cheesecake wasn't custardy or runny on the inside like it should be; the texture was like regular cheesecake. The churros were very small and they didn't even give us enough churros for everyone at the table to have one :(

Yelp
Hello, Stephanie Herman here, back again for a fun review. I made reservations at Destapas the night before and was happy I got 2 seats at the bar. That night, we were going to theater near by with friends who told me they wanted to join me for dinner.. I called up the owner, Luis, and begged him for 4 seats instead of 2. He was so nice and said he would really try to figure out how to add 2 more seats at the bar. The restaurant was a darling and made me feel I was back in Spain. Service was fabulous, nice wine and food was amazing - the prices were fair too. I highly recommend Destapas. I was so happy there that I forgot to take pictures. I hope to go back soon to take photos of the food. Thank you, Stephanie

Yelp
As always excellent tapas & wines! This is one of our go to's in SF! Highly recommend if you are looking for real Spanish Tapas. Make sure to order the tortilla, octopus, deviled eggs, and paella!

Yelp
Solid place for tapas, and though I was craving a gazpacho and they didn't have it, I understood, given tomatoes are not at their peak. Their squid ink seafood paella also looked bomb, but wasn't in it given the portion and rice content. We got their sautéed mushroom in garlic sauce, a generous portion and nicely flavored. Their pasta spinach and pine nuts super good and not heavy at all, despite it looks like it's oozing with cheese, it's actually fairly light. The next dish: cod stuffed red peppers was my absolute favorite: super spanking fresh cod, in an almost mashed version, reminiscent of salt cod brandade from Portugal and stuffed inside red peppers with a bed of sweet pepper sauce. The freshness in the fact that I had to dig out a couple of thorns/tiny bones, e.g. they clearly made it from fresh cod and mashed it with some mild spices. Sooooo good. Their oxtail braised and deeply flavored with mashed potatoes and crusty toasted bread, richly caramelized--my husband, for whom I securely ordered it--loved it, who's partial to that flavor profile. The meat was falling off the bone tender and really good. They are tapas, portion wise and if you want a larger sized dish, their paellas are likely more your speed. The place is intimate and cute, with customer service super friendly and warm. They turned the music up rather loud and thumping for my aging ears but when we asked them to turn it down, they obliged with a smile. The prices are fair. Parking might be tough, given it's in the Mission, so find a garage :-)

Yelp
Exactly the vibe, like a mini-trip to Madríd without the long flight! Authentic high-quality contemporary tapas. Started going because it's near Brava theater, but now it's become the destination. Luis is the perfect host; they do an awesome happy hour, while it's a fun atmosphere, with solid music playlists, the acoustics or sound levels remain mercifully conversational and allow more flavors to be better appreciated because they aren't competing with excess noisiness (it's actually neurologically proven science & good thing as their multi-generational cosmopolitan clientele include medical staff from the nearby hospital). Love Destapas -- Así se hace, felicidades

Yelp
FAVORITE Spanish food in the bay. Cute outside patio that's heated- service is great, staff is super friendly. Get the sangria and try everything if possible!
google avatar

Xinyu L.

Yelp
Unexpected flavors in all the right places. For one reason or another, each of the dishes we ordered surprised and delighted us. The meatballs (albondigas) had a mild smoky flavor that enhanced a normally plain dish. The seafood in the paella was FRESH; the brine/juice of the mussels made that quite evident. The most fun dish was the piquillos (cod stuffed peppers)! The salted cod inside was such a good addition though an acquired taste; we couldn't decide whether the flavor was more reminiscent of Chinese or Scandinavian dishes. It's great when dishes make you think. The ambience was dark and moody and the service was great! We'll go back for the happy hour next.

Yelp
Managed to snag a last-minute reservation here for Saturday night. I was a little dubious of the "outdoor" seating - which as the only reservable table left - but we were pleasantly surprised by the patio. It's heated, almost entirely covered, and well-decorated. I'd recommend sitting at a table instead of a counter, since the counters were fairly narrow (and to me, it looked like they didn't have enough room for a paella pan). The indoor seating looks nice. It was crowded around 6 pm on a Saturday, and the dinner vibe seemed mildly dressy/upscale. We had the croquetas (jamón), wagyu beef empanadas, and paella valenciana. Our favorites were the paella and the empanadas, both of which we'd order again. The croquetas were alright: we felt like there was too much cheese/potato stuffing for us, so we wished they were split into smaller portions. Really looking forward to coming back! Their happy hour menu looks great.

Yelp
The food and ambiance were amazing. We really enjoyed the white sangria and pear salad. We want to come back to try the different Paellas, the seafood one was amazing.

Yelp
Vegetarian and plant-based friends look no further for an incredible tapas experience at this very cute and delicious restaurant in the middle of the Mission and Potrero Hill on 24th and York Street. There is something for everyone here as they do also have meat and seafood options. All of the food was absolutely incredible! The standouts were by far the Vegan Paella and potatas bravos were excellent as well. There was not one Crumbl left behind. I am very much looking forward to returning and thought the service was fabulous as well. 10/10 recommend!! Parking was not hard also and the bathrooms were very clean. The decor inside was very warm, and I felt immediately at peace walking inside to be seated for our reservation.
google avatar

Paul L.

Yelp
Great little spot on 25th. Veggie paella was solid. Loved the bravas as well. Went for couple days night. Good spots at the bar for people watching.
google avatar

Chris F.

Yelp
Except for the paella, the food was solid but the portions are so minuscule that I felt that I was fleeced. Paella took 15 minutes so it's basically re-heated leftovers and the portion is the size of a kid's meal for $35. Better options abound.
google avatar

Yelp
Walking into Destapas is like entering a well-trained submissive's lair: dark, intimate, and with just the right touch of seduction. The ambiance whispers promises of satisfaction, and I was eager to see if it could deliver. For lunch, I started with the seafood paella, a dish that should command your attention with its rich flavors. This one did not disappoint. The saffron-infused rice was submissively tender, yielding to the fresh, plump seafood nestled within. Each bite was a symphony of textures, from the snap of the shrimp to the gentle resistance of the mussels. It was as if the chef knew exactly how to tease the palate--just enough to keep you wanting more but never overwhelming. To accompany, I sipped on red sangria, which was a delightful sub in its own right. It was fruity, yes, but with a robust undertone that hinted at something darker, more complex beneath the surface. It was a drink that could tie you up for hours, leaving you craving the next sip. Sparkling water kept me grounded--a reminder to pace myself, as all good things come in moderation. But let's not pretend: it was merely a palate cleanser between indulgences, a brief respite before diving back into the delicious decadence. While this visit was a midday tryst, I'm already planning my next encounter with Destapas. Their "Pick 4 for $24" menu calls to me like an unfulfilled desire, promising a new array of temptations to explore. I look forward to submitting myself to their offerings once again, eager to see what else this culinary dominatrix has in store. Until next time, Destapas. Consider me thoroughly pleased--but far from satisfied.

Yelp
I have been looking for a nice paella place in Bay Area but it's all been let down. So i tried this place as soon as I read they serve paella. To begin with you could come here for a casual dinner with friends or a date night like I did. The service is quick and for the kinda food they serve, price is on point. Now I ordered bunch of stuff and everything was delicious. But I have a small complain which is the baguette served with the meat balls could have been toasted or atleast have butter on it or drizzled with virgin olive oil. It was too hard and too dry to eat. Mushroom croquettes could use a little salt. Paella was pretty good but it was too dry and a bit burnt which again made it too dry and almost all seafood was dehydrated but I could tell if they cooked it right, it was ok point. Having. Said that I loved this place. I am going back again to try more stuff of off the menu. Hidden gem Spanish restaurant In San Francisco

Yelp
If you have been to Spain and are craving tapas, paella, and tinto verano, I highly recommend Destapas! The ambiance was so cozy and welcoming and the staff were friendly and provided great service. But the best part was truly the food. I LOVED the salmorejo. It was garlicky and had the perfect consistency. The paella was also delicious and the rice was cooked to perfection. It was a little crunchy on the bottom, just the way I like it. The seasoning was on point too! I will definitely be coming back here in the future, the food and service can NOT be beat!

Yelp
I got dinner at Destapas with a few of my friends on a weekday, and the restaurant was quite busy. There were three of us, and we ordered a lot of things to share. We got- 1. Tinto de Verano pitcher 2. Ham croquetas 3. Blue cheese croquetas 4. Mushroom croquetas 5. Chorizo empanadillas 6. Beef empanadillas 7. Pulpo 8. Cold cut (Plato de jamon iberico) 9. Ensaladas (white asparagus) 10. Meatballs in saffron tomato sauce Their pitcher was very disappointing. We had to send it back the first time because it tasted like water. The second time around, it was still not that great. Their empanadillas were super light. The crust was crunchy and flaky, and light and meat inside was well seasoned. Croquetas were great, too. Blue cheese croqueta was on the sweeter end, and I liked it. White asparagus ensalada was so unique and really delicious. I'm not an asparagus person, but I would order that again. Their service was pretty good, too. They have a cute indoor dining area and also a back patio. We chose to sit inside.

Yelp
TL/DR: perhaps the worst tapas I've ever had, and they have rats. Very nice service however. A friend and I thought that dining alfresco on tapas seemed like a great idea. So we booked a table and moseyed on down. Service was friendly and sweet, but unfortunately the food was just barely edible, if that. So-called mushroom croquetas were deep-fried balls of breaded white gelatinous material with no flavor or mushrooms in evidence. Chicken and Manchego Piquillos were described as "Piquillo peppers stuffed with roasted chicken, Manchego cheese and leeks". There was some evidence of vegetable matter, but the rest of the filling was a largely homogenous mass of some unidentifiable bland substance with a few very tiny particles of chicken in it. I won't go into details on the other fairly inedible food that was served except to mention that the most edible item was so-called "roasted brussel sprouts" that instead had obviously been fried in oil that wasn't hot enough and were therefore quite soaked in oil. Not only was the food quite bad with very little flavor, but there were rats running around in the outdoor area, one of them getting very close to my friend's face. Interestingly, for those with an interest in zoology, these rats were black and not the typical gray ones that you see around. So at least they had that going for them. To summarize, do I recommend going to Destapas for any reason? I do not. Do I think it should be shut down by the health authorities? I do.

Yelp
I had an amazing time at Destpas. I was in a big group of 8 people and they accommodated us well, and even though we sat outside there were heaters that kept us cozy. Our group had a mix of vegans, vegetarians, pescatarians and omnivores so we really ordered a little bit of everything. But the star of the night was the Plant-based tuna tartare by "Impact Food"! I never knew a vegan tartare could be so delicious! My friend that is pregnant also enjoyed being able to eat a "raw seafood" without worries. I also got the vegan paella, and the pan con tomate. The Sangria was also delicious and I think our table ordered 5 pitchers!

Yelp
We ate here recently. I really liked the chicken skewers. It's a pleasant space, but the tables are a little bit close together.

Yelp
Trying to find a good tapa place in SF and I found one! Staffs here were very friendly and laid back in a good way. We got greeted upon our arrival and got seated right away. Vibe here is very trendy and modern, I can see myself drinking wine at the bar after work. Tapas were amazing! I loved all dishes. Here's what we've ordered Grilled octopus - 5/5 MUST GET! it was perfectly seasoned and grilled on the outside, super tender inside. You won't go wrong with this dish! Tuna Tartare - 5/5 How good can it be, it's just tuna tartare right? I was impressed! Tuna were freshly seasoned and it goes very well with the crackers. seafood Paella - 4/5 I wish the rice could be a bit soft but the portion of seafood they give you is very generous. Can't wait to go back and try their other dishes!

Felix H.

Yelp
We had the crushed tomatoes and garlic on baguette and the Seafood Paella . Both were very good . Seafood was fresh ; could have had more rice in the Paella . Good Service . We'll be back .

Yelp
Food favorites: deviled eggs (comes with three different toppings), lobster croquettes, tuna tartare (good chip to tuna ratio) Service: friendly, super attentive Vibes: cute, lively, date night

Yelp
I recently visited DeTapas and had a fantastic dinner! My friend and I ordered their plant-based tuna tartare by "Impact Food", and it was absolutely incredible! The flavors were perfectly balanced, with a fresh and zesty kick that elevated the entire dish. The plant-based tuna paired beautifully with the avocado, and it was all vegan! The presentation was gorgeous, and the dish complemented their selection of tapas so well. We also enjoyed the vegan paella and their delicious sangria.

Matt S.

Yelp
Heard amazing things about the paella, but was slightly disappointed. It didn't wow me, it was just okay. Seafood was overcooked, and didn't bring out much flavor, the dish was pretty dry compared to other paellas i've had and I didn't like that. But what keeps this at a 4 star are the tapas, the octopus and mussels were amazing. perfect char with a spicy sauce with potatoes was such a good small plate. Those were the things that will have me back for another try.

Yelp
Our favorite Spanish / tapas restaurant in the city. Feels intensely authentic, both in food and in cliente Always great service. If they were centrally located, lines would be around the corner.

Yelp
Very cute authentic Spanish restaurant in the mission It was a great discovery Tapas was good, and also we had one of the best paella in town Owner Luis and Raul are really nice and friendly Great food and great service Thank you guys

Yelp
Went for happy hour with some friends and fell in love with the white wine sangria. Dangerously good cause it tasted just like juice haha the service was great and so was the food. Love the croqetas (sp?) and mushrooms!

Yelp
The tapas here are really good! We got the patatas bravas ($10), the octopus ($21), oxtail ($19), garlic shrimp ($19), and chicken paella ($34). The service was quite fast and all of them were flavorful. My favorite was the oxtail, which was creamy and rich. The octopus was very good too. Least favorite was the shrimp. For dessert we got the flan ($8) and the cheesecake ($9). I liked the flan a bit better, it was sweet but not too sweet. The beer ($8) was tasty too. A great date night spot.

Yelp

Yelp
Authentic delicious food and friendly service. We recently returned from Barcelona and were missing pinchos, tapas, and Spanish food. Destapas delivered! They were so friendly from the moment we made our reservation to table service. My family loved our food. We had Huevos rellenos / smoked trout deviled eggs, Pincho Mallorca, Pinchos de Morcilla, Patatas Bravas, Rabo de toro/ Oxtail in red wine sauce, Spanish Omelete/Tortilla Espanola, Secreto Ibérico / Ibérico pork shoulder steak and Flan de vainilla for dessert. Our meal was perfect from start to finish and we cannot wait to return and try more, gracias Luis & Raul!

Yelp
Nice small tapas place owned by a couple of guys from Madrid in the Mission. +++ great location +++ lots of tapas to pick from +++ fast friendly service +++ nice owners and wait staff ++++ convenient and easy street parking +++ Blue Cheese Croquetas was awesome. +++The tinned Mussells were delicious. +++ Very tasty burnt cheesecake +/- Chicken skewers - chicken was very tender but lackluster on flavor. - stuffed pepper with salt cod way too salty for me. I'd go back and already sent several friend to check it out...

Yelp
The food here is amazing and they have a real nice Spanish Lager, too. Relaxing, nice atmosphere. Great service and it was nice talking with the owners. I highly recommend trying the mushrooms! Lots of dishes to satisfy both the carnivore or vegetarian. I definitely will return here.

Yelp
Came here with a last minute reservation on a Saturday night at 7 pm! Good: - Outdoor patio has amazing ambiance - really good for a date night - Loved the calamari sliders - so unique and it was so so good I wish I had more - Croquettes were amazing - melted right into your mouth Bad: - Wasn't a fan of the Paella Mixta - the paella didn't have the crunchy rice and the meat inside wasn't mind blowingly good - Flan was a little too sweet for me Overall really solid meal - good vibes and food was really tasty - the service is fairly quick and it's a nice place to catchup and eat good food.

Yelp
The best tapas we have ever had! My friends and I went here for dinner, one of our friends is local to the neighborhood and goes here often and speaks very highly of this place. Our server (who I also believe is the owner) was so kind he arranged for every item we ordered to come in 5 pieces so everyone at our table can have some. We are vegetarian and we ordered several tapas and the vegan paella and can confidently say that all of us loved this food way more than anything we tried in Spain! THE DESSERT deserves all caps, probably my favorite dessert in all of SF and probably the whole world. I can't believe something this good exists. We ordered the cheesecake and another one that had cranberries on it (I can't remember the name, it's new on the menu)! The service was unmatched, Raul was so helpful and kind to our table the whole night. He also let us stay way past closing. The place is also so cute and quiet, it's an amazing place where you can have conversations with friends and actually hear them. They also have a cute patio in the summer. I'd consider moving to this neighborhood just to be able to go here every week.

Yelp
The fifth column of Spanish cuisine continues its conquest of San Francisco, which would be appropriate for the Spanish named city, with Japanese cuisine getting some competition. This was an accidental find. A great exterior and interior, contrasting with the absolute mess and societal collapse on that block of 24th. Check out the bulls heads on the wall and at the bar. From the clientele it appears to be a neighborhood gem, not yet a destination restaurant, though it should be. The staff was friendly and helpful with suggestions. First choice there would be a wine I chose at almost random, and it was accurately described on the wine list, notes of blackberry and no difficult aftertaste, a smooth and full bodied merlot-Syrah from Ribera del Queiles. Then the food, definitely order the pulpo a la plancha, perfectly good and seasoned squid in a sauce. I also had the Ibérico Bellota, also highly recommended. I adventurously tried the tinned stuffed squid, which the maitre d' warned me was tinned. He apparently thought it might be too adventurous for a non-Spaniard, but no worries, it was good and no regrets. Other recommendations are the chicken skewers, three all loaded with chicken, not small bites as with Japanese skewers. The Patatas Bravas, perfectly cooked potatoes in a delicious sauce. Definitely will go again. The only miss was the Tarta del Santiago, which was a bit on the dry side.

Yelp
Tapas is up there with one of my favorite ways to eat. What is not to love about being able to sample a large variety of different foods. Often I do find tapas menus to all look similar but this one had a huge variety of many dishes I have never heard of. They even had a nice variety of different paellas to choose from. We chose the seafood paella. It was delicious, and the rice was perfectly crisped at the bottom, which is something I can never achieve when making it at home. We were a party of 5, so we had ordered six tapas in addition to the paella. They were all delicious, but the real standouts were:- Escalivada- which was served like a terrine, so you were able to get a variety of yummy vegetables in each bite -Blue cheese croquetas- Which were filled with hot and gooey cheese. I could have just had a large plate of these and been a happy camper Brussels Sprouts al Jerez- I often am a purest when it comes to sprouts, but these were cooked perfectly, and the pomegranate and grapes added a unique Mediterranean twist to them.  Given that we were a party of five, and our party took up nearly half of the restaurant, we were super appreciative of how patient the staff was with us. I believe they could tell that we had not seen each other in a while, so they were never intrusive or tried to rush us out, even though the restaurant had filled up by the time we were there.

Yelp
Amazing food, service and ambience - best Tortilla Espanola I've had outside of Spain! Loved the wine!
