"The name fits, as it’s tucked away at the back of a strip mall in a largely residential neighborhood, but this bakery is worth the search for cinnamon rolls, peach danishes, clafoutis, and the like as well as savory items such as leek-parmesan puffs and blue cheese–walnut bread." - Eater Staff

Google
My first time here and it’s fantastic. Great variety of pastries, croissants, quiches, and breads. Charming atmosphere. Reminded of coffee shops/bakeries in New England. Very friendly staff. I had the sticky bun, the chocolate/almond croissant, and a drip coffee. Everything was sooo good. Plenty of parking. Six tables inside and a couple of picnic benches outside. I’ll definitely be back! Went back and had a strawberry/cream cheese croissant and took home a cinnamon bun with cream cheese frosting. Both were delicious. I’ve been back many times. My only complaint, especially if you’re going to sit there for awhile, the bell on the door is one of the most annoying things ever.

Google
I always look forward to visiting this mom&pop style cafe. Always an abundance of great treats here. I highly recommend the lemon poppyseed loaf & monkey bread. The day-old is half price if they’ve got it. The owner is an incredible French woman - she knows her croissants which are the star of the front display everyday as well.

Google
Great little bakery for bread, quiche and pastries. The Peach Thing pastry is one of the best things I've had in a long time and the latte was excellent paired with it. Other pastries looked good too. The breads here are outstanding. Service was very good - friendly, helpful and quick. The space is welcoming and comfortable. There was a steady stream of customers while I was there. Though busy, parking spaces were available.

Google
Couldn’t have had a better croissant and coffee at Detour Bakery! The staff is friendly and you can tell they put a lot of hard work into their products. My goal is to try every pastry here. We had a great experience and will definitely be back. If you’re in the Glendale / Cherry Creek area. This is a must go to spot!

Google
Such a lovely little hole-in-the-wall cafe! The smells were so delicious and the pastries looked even better. Such a large selection of goodies to choose from. I got a strawberry cream cheese croissant and it was one of the softest and fluffiest croissants I’ve had in Denver, period. The latte was very good and oat milk is available (yay!). Would definitely recommend to a friend, especially if you want a cute and quiet cafe to hide in.

Google
So happy to have come upon this quaint hidden jewel - Detour Bakery! Authentic European croissants! And great variaety of bread, quiches, pastries and coffee. Love the French music, decour and overall atmosphere -- as well as service from Catherine. My new go to place after church on Sundays!

Google
First time coming here, it was recommended to me for their chocolate croissants. I ended up getting a Nutella croissant, raspberry croissant, and a viennoise cream pastry. All three were amazing & the lady who helped me was so very sweet. Will definitely be coming back here whenever I am in the area.

Google
It's the cutest corner 😍 smells amazing as you walk in. I wish I could hsven taken pictures of my cheddar bacon jalapeño croissant it was soo perfectly 👌 made.

Steven S H C.

Yelp
Open on 1/1/25. Wednesday. Stopped by to see what tickles my fancie and.... ended up getting chocolate croissant, Viennoise - Cream .... and sticky gooey bun. Ate the cream bun, so heavy, filled with fresh cream. Weighted a ton. Always love this store!

Premila M.

Yelp
This is small and cute bakery tucked in an assuming neighborhood. Everything smelled so fresh and tasted good! The service is very friendly. It has limited seating inside and a few sports outside. They have limited bakery items but everything we ordered was delicious!

Leti L.

Yelp
Best filled croissants!, however they need to have MORE FILLING in them. It seems to be more bread than filling . Thank you from a loyal customer.

Kelisha D.

Yelp
If you don't come for any other reason, come for the free smells. Everything tastes so good and service is always so friendly

Cindy L.

Yelp
Decent bakery and prices aren't crazy inflated. I ordered a chocolate croissant and a peach thing. The chocolate croissant was flaky and the chocolate was a good dark chocolate. The peach thing wasn't my favorite pastry. Not very flaky and the "custard" was a bit overcooked, almost like i was eating an egg with a peach. Wouldn't order that again.

Melissa D.

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place but the pastries were not good. It seemed that they were all made of store bought phyllo dough. Both quiches were wet and the flavor was not great. The croissants were all soft like store bought. I was so disappointed in everything I got. Maybe it's just this particular style of pastry but it did not seem French by any means.

Lauren A.

Yelp
This underrated bakery is located in a strip mall with the most delicious pastries, breads, and more! Skip the wait for pastries/breakfast at the cafe located a few doors down and thank me later ;) The service here is incredible and staff are so friendly! Small space inside but plenty of room to sit outside!

Min K.

Yelp
A solid place for French pastries and bread with a diverse selection and reasonable price point. The seating for this establishment is outside and at times they have music playing which adds to the ambiance. They have a small area where they sell jams and butter and it is a cute place overall. I usually go with the pain au chocolate or a croissant and it is hit or miss as to what the "doneness" will be. I have definitely received some on the charred side which I know some people prefer. The service is always friendly but at times disorganized and I have learned that this is not a place to come when pressed for time.

Yelp
This might be Detour Bakery, but it is an intended destination from now on. My first visit came on a solid recommendation when looking for something delicious on a Friday morning full of tasks. I immediately loved the amount of parking and the hours on the window that indicated "730AM-ish to 1 PM-ish!" Warmly greeted by the staff, this southeast Denver authentic French bakery met my expectations and raised the bar. I had trouble deciding what to eat with all of the options prominently displayed and a room that smelled so darn good. Next time I will try the "Peach Thing" that was so appropriately named and looked spectacular. Indoor and outdoor seating, elected inside on a rainy morning. Their loaves of bread & baguettes are inviting (next time), and the open space kitchen yields excellent looks at what is being prepared. I tried an outstanding turkey croissant sandwich, added a fantastic luscious chocolate croissant, and sampled my partner's sticky bun decision (wise one). Plus, they offer soft drinks, which is excellent for those who aren't sparkling water or coffee drinkers.

Yelp
I had the kindest experience here today. My grandson has swim lessons in this mall and we had an hour after school to wait. My daughter said he would enjoy a streamed milk from the coffee shop but it was closed. Walked a bit over to Detour. : ) The man was so kind to change up a machine to make a steamed milk and we chose an almond croissant. I got a tea. I love spending time with this kid and I didn't realize at the moment I had walked into a little piece of heaven. My 3-1/2 yo asked the man what he was doing for Easter (so random and cute)and the man took a pause, looked at me, smiled and had a lovely conversation with with this child. We then sat at a table and my boy said the croissant "is so delicious!" His milk was a bit hot and I felt a bit bothersome asking for some cold milk and he didn't even pause. Gave me the jug and let ke take care of it and my boy said "just right!" Such a nice time. A haven. Then the man gave us a couple of little cinnamon rolls and my boy lit up. Thinking about it as I'm at the end of my day, this was one of those precious moments, perfect. The man in the shop was truly interested. Proud of his shop. Kind. Patient. Felt like home. Maybe he is the owner. He acted like it, humbly. In a world in chaos, some other difficult events in my life, my heart hurts and so needed time with my sweet boy. And this little shop, with the delicious treats, attuned to this little one who is so special to me. It was like I entered a haven. He was so kind. Effortlessly. I can't find a way to say how my heart feels so good tonight. All of it. I needed some little bit of magic. Thank you. Thank you so very much dear man.

Yelp
Always exceeds expectations! The most wonderful authentic pastries and delightful service.

Yelp
Best croissants in Denver! Having tried a majority of bakeries in town Detour is still at the top of the list for best in Denver for me and my family! 10/10 would recommend!

Veronica B.

Yelp
I have been dying to find some delicious French pastries. Mind you I decided to stop in the day before thanksgiving as they had been almost emptied out (great for them, not so great for me). Buuuut even with them not having any fresh bread left I decided to try some of their croissants: regular, almond, and one that has sugar pearls on it. Oh my goodness, they are crispy and so flaky, so buttery, and just perfect each in its own way. If you haven't tried them yet, give it a go. If you love bread you will not go wrong. Why you ask? Because it is just that darn good. The staff was very welcoming and explained the differences in their pastries. Hearing the staff speak to each other in French sealed the deal for me and brought me back to the time I visited Paris. Can't wait for my next visit (to this bakery and Paris, ha).

Angela B.

Yelp
Best almond/chocolate croissants EVER ! The fruit ones are not bad either but if you like chocolate and nuts .....don't hesitate to try it. Such a cozy little bakery ! And the lady that helped us was super nice and friendly as well. Definitely going again !!!

Clancy A.

Yelp
This bakery is fantastic!! So many great pastry and bread options to choose from. The staff is super nice as well.

Connor B.

Yelp
The best bakery for classic French pastries in Denver. No gimmicks or outrageously priced items. Very reasonably priced (3.25 for a butter croissant), fantastic staff, and friendly owners. A must-try for Denver locals.

Vilma S.

Yelp
Saw an article about this bakery a few weeks back and couldn't get them out of my mind, so finally decided to stop in. It is very inviting, clean, organized, the staff is super friendly, helpful and the whole bakery smelled wonderful. All the baked goods looked so yummy, I wanted to buy one of each! I decided on getting the last two HUGE cinnamon buns, a couple baguettes and some foie gras. I also got two complimentary macaroons (so flavorful!). When I got home, I heated up one of the cinnamon buns and it was the most delicious one I have ever had! Just the right amount of gooey goodness and flavor! I am so glad I bought two and look forward to eating the other one tomorrow. I gave one of the baguettes to my parents and the other one I will eat with some hot soup. This is a great French bakery and they also have coffee, tea and other items (I have included a pic of the menu). Will be coming back soon!

Jeanne W.

Yelp
Under the original owners, this was a fantastic place for wonderful French goodies. Now, with new owners it wasn't worth the stop. Couldn't find lemon or cream cheese in the LCC croissant. There might have been 1 1/2 teaspoons of apricot in the other one. Prices went up, while quality went way down. Pastry was okay, though

Kelly A.

Yelp
I tried 3 pastries here and all were delicious! I had a raspberry croissant, chocolate almond croissant, and a parmesan leek pastry. They were pretty busy Saturday morning so it might be a struggle occasionally if you want to dine in. The woman at the counter was super friendly and helpful in helping me pick what to get.

Yelp
As you may have noticed (?) I'm on a quiche quest, egged on (?) by my belief that we in Denver now are facing a quiche catastrophe in that there appears to be a large geographic circle within the central and south-central parts of Denver where you can't find great quiche. (Uh, that would be between the 3000 block south on Broadway to the 2800 block north on Larimer). Over the last week or 2 I've been testing out the quiche options in the area. (For a discussion of this issue see the Talk section discussion titled "Quiche: I'm looking for the best . . ." (started 11/22/19)). I got several suggestions of excellent quiche-serving bakeries/restaurants in the Talk discussion and therefore you're gonna see several reviews regarding places that serve quiche hitting my free-to-Yelp-content-pages. So here's the latest: Detour Bakery holds out so much 5-star quiche promise. Their personal pan sized quiche-ettes have just the right amount of spice (a dash of nutmeg signals respect for the classic quiche Lorraine recipe) and a good proportion of onions/scallions/shallots (choose one) and bacon to the requisite Gruyere cheese--sometimes accented with a sprinkle or two of Parmesan--shows that they are serious about this dish. Unfortunately, however, Detour Bakery microwaves their quiche when you ask for it to be heated. This essentially kills the quiche and turns the crust into a nicely shaped collection of mush. If they would simply buy a toaster oven or the even better option--give it a few minutes in a hot convection oven--it would be 5-star-good. Thus ends today's quiche review so sign me, David "egged on" M

Yelp
AMAZING bakery, our go to! Just gotta plan it out if you want to go and make sure you go early in the morning, because it gets busy!

Dana L.

Yelp
So glad I found this little neighborhood bakery! The quiches are delicious! I plan on trying many other things as well! Service is great too!

Tim L.

Yelp
Simply the best French/European style bakery within... oh, I'll say a ten mile radius. The owner and head baker is from France. Natural leavening and baking leads to a great crumb and crust on their loaves. I typically go with a simple, leaner baguette or loaf, then grab some decadent pastry to eat with coffee or share with loved ones, co-workers, and friends. Stop in and grab something or meet a friend there for breakfast/lunch, it will be in the top tier of any baked good you've had in your life.

Susan C.

Yelp
Fantastic bakery; pastries are excellent and the service was friendly. We bought a large variety of items a number of days in a row to bring down for grieving family members...on the last day we stopped by, the staff threw in some extras treats. Everything was delicious and enjoyed by a group that was paying very little attention to anything else. We were very grateful how easy it was to satisfy everyone's taste (savory/sweet, etc) in one stop.

Julie K.

Yelp
Amazing! Just like Paris! We had plain croissants, a cinnamon roll (huge enough to share), baguette, and cappuccino. Closed on Sunday and Monday, we came on a Saturday at 7:30 am right when they opened and already a line out the door! We ate on their outdoor patio and they constantly had a line even when we left at 9 am. This place is that good! Took a second cappuccino to go-best one in Denver and almost as good as Paris.

Rebecca D.

Yelp
Their pastries are absolutely amazing. However they just got a new automated coffee machine and the coffee and espressos are now really bad.

Jodi H.

Yelp
Oh lord, oui oui oui Detour Bakery is a bakery force in Denver! I was looking for a bakery to check out during my time in Denver, and I am so glad yelp directed me to Detour. The bakery screams hardcore French fluffiness and quality of pastries. It's located in a strip mall kind of parking lot which means lots of parking YAY! They have a few picnic tables and seats outdoors if you plan on eating your goodies there on the spot, but most people were doing takeaway orders. They have food items to order, but I mainly came here for the freshly baked goods. Their selection isn't as grand as Lucky's in Boulder, but they are made with amazing quality and freshness. I got their chocolate croissant/pain au chocolat and vegetarian quiche which was so delicious. My friend enjoyed the pain au chocolat and even tried to lick up all of the flakes from the croissant (yes, THAT good). My quiche was delicious and so flavorful. I felt very comfortable stopping by with their COVID precautions, and everybody was doing good with staying their distance from the other customers. I highly recommend stopping by if you're looking for pastries at 110% French quality and goodness.

Jesse B.

Yelp
Delicious baked goods and beyond. The croissants are flaky and buttery, the pastries filled with delicious fruit such as apricot and staff is friendly and helpful. They also have savory options that we did not go for on this venture. Detour was busy on a Sunday morning around 9:30am when we stopped by. Whether you grab something there and stay a while or take to go this is detour you'll be happy to take time and again.

Savanna B.

Yelp
Wow- I stumbled upon this hidden gem because it's in the same parking lot as my son's swim lessons and am I ever glad I did! First of all, shop is clean and cute. Secondly, the guy working there is super friendly, which is always a plus. Finally, ITS SO GOOD!!! I've tried 2 types of baguettes- both were very yummy- my husband liked the chewy one better and I liked the crunchy one better- and we've tried the following croissants: chocolate, almond, apricot, cherry, and blueberry- all delicious! I'll definitely be stopping in after swim lessons every week...I'm already looking forward to buying bread next week and trying more of the fantastic pastries.

Kelly C.

Yelp
Highly recommend. The savory leek pastry is one of my favorites. The pastry itself is so buttery and delicious, you can't go wrong.

Cathie K.

Yelp
The best French pastries, esp their croissants, outside of Paris!!!! Kind, helpful people at the counter!!! Love this place!!!!! I highly recommend it

Emily M.

Yelp
Oh my yum! Where to start! The pastries in the cases are all fresh and perfectly flaky and laminated. I couldn't decide what to get - a classic butter croissant? A chocolate? A chocolate pecan? An almond? A savory? I went savory - an egg and leek croissant. It was to die for - creamy and flavorful and fresh. My sister's spinach and egg croissant was about as flaky as you can get too. Definitely stop here if you can! Yum!

Nancy G.

Yelp
Outstanding! The best croissants I've had in a long long time. The bread is also fantastic.

Jason J.

Yelp
Always friendly, always fun, always delicious! From tasty coffee to a wide array of delectable authentic French pastries, Detour never fails to please. I would pay double (don't tell them!) for their almond croissants. They've got a Vietnamese bun that is like this French bun filled like a Boston Creme doughnut and it is TO DIE FOR, but will also fill you with enough sugar to sate an entire third grade classroom. They've got super cute tables out front which are a great place to grab a coffee and a pasty and shoot the breeze with friends and family. Here during COVID they're also adhering to all guidelines as well as can be (from the outside looking in) and that's always great to see. They're great. They're so polite and friendly and fun to chat with, and their baked goods are the best authentic French pastries on this side of town! Can't beat 'em.

James B.

Yelp
I went here this morning because we wanted a cinnamon roll. When I walked in, the staff was really friendly and there was a small line, three or four people, so you knew it would be good. I ended up getting several pastries, and every single one was delicious. Got some for my in-laws too who said they "were a hit!". Oh! And the blue-cheese-walnut bread was unreal. Definitely will be back!

Yuri K.

Yelp
I stopped by to take home some croissants and a small quiche to support local business during this very surreal season. I went in right after they opened, and they had plenty of assortment of pastries--I was hoping to come home with a cinnamon roll, but I couldn't justify $7 for one, when I had my eye on some filled croissants anyway. Those croissants did not disappoint! They were all flaky, buttery, light, with generous fillings (I tried the almond, raspberry, and Nutella). Every bite has just the right ratio of croissant to filling, which is often hard to come by! I will say, I did not love the almond croissant. Perhaps not authentic, but I crave a more creamy frangipane filling rather than gritty almond paste with not much sweetness--which is what this almond croissant was. The show-stopper was definitely the Nutella croissant, because, well, Nutella. And perfect croissant. I also brought home a mushroom and Swiss mini-quiche, which was decent, but it had come out of the refrigerator. My mistake was going to the bakery hungry-- because that resulted in me reheating the quiche in the microwave rather than in the oven, which meant that the crust was spongy... not what you want for a quiche!! #usererror All in all, a wonderful bakery with a daily rotation of freshly made bread and pastries. I'm already thinking about my next order from here...

Cristine R R.

Yelp
I drove 25 minutes to check out this bakery and I was not disappointed! From the owner's sweet accent, the comfy out door couch, to of course, the Amazing nutella croissant (not too sweet, soft inside light flaky outside) it was well worth the trip. My only suggestion is to have some dairy alternative for coffee/cappuccino. I'm sitting outside and after devouring the Nutella croissant, I think I may go back in for another before they are all gone!

Chuck W.

Yelp
Always great pastries! Big cinnamon rolls. Excellent bread choices. Fun place to eat here or take out. Good strong coffee.

M D.

Yelp
Fresh baked daily! Fabulous! Excellent service with a small town atmosphere. Highly recommend

Laura P.

Yelp
Update 11/4/20: the owners have moved tables outside when weather permits so that you can enjoy yummy pastries outside. Where the inside seating was is an ever growing little shopping area of foodie favorites!! It's all yummy so get there early especially on Saturday mornings. It goes fast. The Word is out! What a wonderful place this is. Authentic French Bakery! The pictures don't lie and the flavors are light and melt in mouth. Open for take away during Covid lockdown we are treated with special morning pastries I'll never go anywhere else. There's seating area (currently closed area) to relax the day away. This place is no secret to locals or regulars. So it's first come first served. Special hours right now so check Facebook for current updates! We just can't say enough good things about this bakery! I'm now spoiled

Susanna S.

Yelp
Stopped in a couple weeks ago for the first time. Very French and super delicious. Cinnamon roll is a little more like a danish than a traditional American cinnamon roll but still tasty. Purchased some bread and some canned rillettes/pate and enjoyed it all.

Dan F.

Yelp
Anything there is off the charts. I will certainly be back when I'm back in Denver. Definitely a five star bakery

Clarke F.

Yelp
Wonderful place and people. I have been a fan for years and the family who ran it was always so nice. I was apprehensive when I heard they were selling, but the new staff has been wonderful so far and the bread is still delicious. The Rosemary on Wednesdays and Saturdays is amazing.

Kirsten J.

Yelp
The absolute best French bakery in Denver!!! Love, love, love everything they make and family run too!! If you are reading this and haven't been, go and order a little bit of everything! You'll get hooked...

Christopher B.

Yelp
This might be my favorite discover in Denver. We moved to this side of town recently and happened to stumble upon it. Actually, my wife noticed it on Yelp when we were looking for baked goods. Everything is freshly made, in house. The sticky buns might be the best I've ever had without exaggeration. We also had a caramel almond croissant that was fantastic. I saw the fresh bread and I was so tempted to get one. In fact, the person in line behind us ordered one and they told him to be careful because it just came out of the oven. This is about as European as it gets and I'm so happy it's so close to home. This is a very dangerous thing especially being on the way to work!

Katherine B.

Yelp
Ç'est magnifique! We finally had an opportunity to come here and are so glad we did. We have officially found our new bakery. We love fresh bread and miss real baguettes and croissants- I highly encourage you to stop in. Today we purchased two fruit filled croissants, an épi (same as a baguette but different design dating back hundreds of years) and (best bread for a picnic as it is easy to break apart and share) and a spinach and feta quiche. All were excellent, fresh and crunchy or flaky where and when they should be. Her bakery is wonderful - be sure to check out her weekly bread schedule as each day highlights a different bread. Oh - the woman behind the counter (I took to be the owner) is indeed French. Enjoy and bon appétit.

Jack K.

Yelp
We were referred to this bakery by a friend, and it's all the way across town from where we live, but I'd highly recommend stopping by, no matter how far you have to travel. We were at a party, and someone brought coconut macaroons that were out of this world, and Detour is where they got them. So after eating an embarrassing amount of the macaroons at the party, we decided to go get our own. The owner was there the day we went in, and she's about what you would expect, a super sweet, kind, French lady, that seems very happy she bakes for a living. On top of the macaroons, we loaded up with a loaf of sourdough, a fresh made quiche since it was breakfast time, and some imported French jam - every single thing we got was on point, and now that I'm finally writing a review, it's reminding me that I need to go back, so I'll pry head over there today.

Erin P.

Yelp
Stopped in for the first time this morning. Ordered one savory croissant and one almond croissant. The savory croissant was decent, although nothing special, and the almond croissant was pretty dry and had virtually no almond filling in it whatsoever. Two stars because the guy who helped me was super nice but I spent $10 on two croissants and was definitely not wowed in the slightest.

Ashley A.

Yelp
The pastries were both gorgeous and delicious!! Both sweet and savory options to be had in addition to loaves of bread and good strong coffee as well.
