So much fun! Detroit Axe-Partridge Creek is the place where a man can be a man. Five fellow dads and I went here on Saturday evening around 5:30 PM and we had a blast. Our host was great-he explained the rules and how the game is played. He gave us tips and made sure we stayed safe. They don't have a kitchen, so they let you bring food with you. We brought pizza and bought some of their beers. It was just an all around great night. I tipped our host five bucks because he did an excellent job. We'll be back for sure.
The way you play is they do a round robin where everyone versus each other at least once and then the tournament gets decided based on games won and points scored. The bullseye is worth five points, red circle is worth three, blue circle is worth one, and you can say, "I'm going clutch," on your last throw. If you hit clutch then you get seven points. But, you can only hit that on your last throw. The round robin has you play your opponent three times and you get five throws per time. You switch sides for each time you play each other. You throw hatchets with one hand during regular gameplay and if there is a tie then you throw an axe with two hands.
On a side note, one of the guys working at Detroit Axe-Patridge Creek is ranked as the number two axe thrower in the world. He had some interesting stories and plenty of great tips.
In addition, one of our fellow dads scored a bullseye on all five throws during a round. That was a score of 25 points, so they gave him a free t-shirt.
