It was really refreshing to see a unique concept incorporating stocks. The beer was very good. It was a very cool place. The food was good. I would like to suggest a few more items added to the menu because to me it seems a bit limited especially for individuals with different dietary restrictions. I was told that the prices for beer change according to demand and purchase(you know like stocks). The menu shows the prices on the screens as if they were stocks. It’s a very cool restaurant concept. I will definitely be going back again.

Went here around 4:30 on a Saturday and was able to get a table without a long wait. The restaurant was clean, the food was really good and the staff were friendly and attentive. Excellent beer selection, including a lot of local gems. The concept of the stock market for beer was pretty cool and made for a fun experience. My only minor upset is that I was unable to find anywhere on the website the actual time the "stock market" opens, which is 6pm. Had we known we probably would have come closer to that time since that was our main reason for going. The games downstairs are a nice added touch and there is easy parking nearby. Overall fun experience!

I highly recommend the Fajita Nachos. They have a deliciously crisp flake. My dinner guest said the fish and chips were perfect served with cabbage coleslaw and fries. Our wonderful server's Alaina an Will very knowledgeable.... with their recommendation for the Hefeweissbier ( German beer) my guest says was amazing. No date complete without raspberry cheesecake.

Google
Great beer selection but current food menu is limited and not properly shown on website. We were disappointed because we looked at the menu online and made out dining decisions based on that to only find out when we got there that we were unable to ordered what we were expecting because they had a limited menu because of current staffing issues. Wouldn't have been a problem if it was advertised that way on their website. Only other issue was we felt a side should have been included with their sandwiches for the prices. I ordered the King Chicken with asparagus and it was $14 for sandwich and $5 for asparagus. I feel they should include maybe the chips with the sandwiches and the have a small upcharge for substituting a different side.

We went there for drinks and the service was good. I absolutely loved the atmosphere. The side Mac and cheese was made to perfection. I ended up getting a cider beer, and it came out nice and cold.

Google
The first sip of the beer was heavenly, the second, divine. From the kölsch to the Hefeweissbier to the Pawberry to the Schilling Alexandr. The beer stock exchange idea is ingenious, It is interactive and fun. And every now and then the market will crash and all the beers will be cheaper. The owner also came to our table to check on us and thanked us for coming. I highly recommend this amazing place !!!

Google
The lamb meatballs and beet hummus is AhhhhMazing! They have a wide range of craft beer on tap. The atmosphere is so fun. I love the classy interior design.

Google
Great selection of beer and cool price change gamification concept. Food is good but presentation could be better. Service is strange.

Yelp
Wow what a fun concept! My friends and I had a blast "playing the market" and jumping at a breaking news price drop moment. Unfortunately, it did take our group 2 hours to get seated so that was a bummer but the beer arcade on the floor below was a HUGE plus. The beer stock market was a very unique experience and cool place I would come back to with friends

Yelp
New beer bar and restaurant downtown and it does not disappoint! The pricing is dynamic based on supply and demand, which makes things fun. Prices change every 15 mins and sometimes the market "crashes" and all beers go to their lowest price. SO FUN!! The beer menu changes throughout the night for all the craft beer lovers out there (including myself), and the food menu is great for dinner or a late-night bite. Jim, the owner, was also so nice and showed us a sneak peak at Grand River Ballroom (downstairs), which opens tomorrow (6/11)! Can't wait to come back her and explore their menu(s) even more! This will be a hot spot!

Yelp
Last night was our first time attending Detroit Beer Exchange. We've walked by it multiple times but this was our first time dining in. Trudy, the hostess was extremely kind and gave us a lot of options for take out if we were not able to wait. Luckily some bar seats opened up and our party of four got drinks and appetizers. Katy, the bartender was slammed yet still took the time to make sure we had everything we needed. Good drinks, good food, very cool atmosphere. Plus there is an arcade in the basement! We will be back!

Samantha M.

Yelp
Looking to grab a beer & maybe play a few games....or just chill at a cool bar? This is a neat place. Great beer options with fluctuating price changes - just like the stock market. Loved the Poppin Pastels Raspberry & Banana from Transient Artisan Ales & the Imperial Biscotti Break from Evil Twin Brewing. Other solid choices were the Hefeweissbier & Final Absolution. Hummus & let'r rip cheddar chip burger were very tasty. The honeycrisp salad with chicken was also good, but $7 for the little bit of chicken we had seemed a bit much. Salad was huge. Downstairs had fun atmosphere. Bocce ball court, pinball games, skeet ball. Cool place to hang out. Definitely recommend!!!

Yelp
Detroit Beer Exchange is a cool spot for groups, for date night, or to simply grab a cold one while playing some games and killing time. There is a menu with appetizers& a pizza joint to satisfy your cravings. There is a whole wall of pinball machines located downstairs, along with a couple ski ball machines, a hockey game, and a few arcade games. You may rent some bocci balls if you wanna get down. There is a ticker that shows how much draft beers are & they go up and down in price. The concept is fun and quirky. I was impressed.

Jason M.

Yelp
A new favorite for meeting up with friends downtown. Amazing beer selection, great staff, and a surprisingly innovative menu. The burgers are awesome, we also had the lamb meatballs (which were great), and the side of fries is massive - perfect for sharing. The games are all downstairs, which is really fun to enjoy with your friends. I liked the seating / view along the tables near the windows. Beer Exchange is a good choice for friends night out, group event or a date. Definitely look into reservations, it gets busy. My favorite part of our night was that they had Kolsch (actually real Kolsh) fresh on the beer tap. It was such a great treat. Can't wait to eat here again

Aubrianna H.

Yelp
Was sad that the upstairs was closed but the downstairs was open! Had great drinks with unlimited amount of positivities. Loved played some games we grew up in and need to come back for the pizza - smelled heavenly.

Vickie R.

Yelp
My husband and I have been waiting for this place to open for the longest time because we've been to the Kalamazoo Beer Exchange and knew exactly what to expect. It definitely met our expectations. Just like the original location, it has a ticker that goes all around the restaurant. If you're not familiar with the concept of the restaurant, the beer prices are valid for 15 minutes at a time, then based on the demand, the price for the next round will either go up or not. The coolest part is that 2-3 times a night, the market will crash just like a real stock market, and a beer that got up to $12 will all of a sudden go back down to $6. I want to say they have 24 beers on tap (could be wrong), but there's a beer for everyone. When you go downstairs, you get to another bar/arcade area. It's really neat to see a whole wall of pinball machines, it's been awhile. It's the perfect place to go especially if you're staying at the Westin Hotel, which is about 3 doors down. It's so much fun, everyone needs to visit!!!

Jerome A.

Yelp
I love options, and Detroit is starting to actually give you some in terms of cool places to drink. DBE could definitely fit the bill. I feel like I didn't get the full experience though. For one, I only had a few beers at the bar and didn't partake in the food. For two, they didn't have their gimmicky stock market pricing on the beers, which is part of the experience from what I researched. Guess they only start that after a certain time, so I'll return for that. The good? A nice collection of beers on tap and otherwise. A very inviting decor and centerpiece bar help shape the flow of the establishment. It definitely has a post 9-5 workday hangout. Another plus is that it's connected to a literal hole-in-the-wall pizza place (Shorty Bells Pizza), and an almost hidden basement arcade and beer bar (Grand River Ballroom). Both a must-stop since you're already there. I'll be back for the food and full stock market beer pricing experience!

Jess L.

Yelp
This is apparently now an event space only. This information is not updated on there website, which says they are open and still presents it as a restaurant on there. This was super frustrating after driving 20 minutes just to learn they are no longer. They said they have games and bottles for sale in the basement and there's a pizza restaurant in the building, but no more DBE.

Claire M.

Yelp
In Detroit for my anniversary and we stopped by this cute little eatery and beer restaurant! I loved the vibe of the 70's and the bartenders are so helpful and friendly! Love it!

Elizabeth M.

Yelp
Came with my husband after a concert. Really fun place. Very nice staff. They have a great selection of beers and very nice options for liquors. Wine list is somewhat limited. I had an aviation cocktail. It was ok. We also had a shot of Red Breast whiskey. It's rare to find that available in bars. So glad I got to try it. They looked to have a good food menu. Didn't get anything to eat that night, but would definitely come back to try some things. Watching the beers change price based on the demand was a lot of fun to watch. I highly recommend if you are downtown!

Michele B.

Yelp
We booked the private room for a rehearsal dinner and it was fabulous! The team was responsive and easy to work with. The food was delish!! Great variety to choose from. They had a terrific large screen for a slide show and good sound system. I can't say enough about the service - so attentive and quick! If you have a wedding scheduled downtown - this is the place to have your rehearsal dinner. Of if you need a fun place for a birthday party!

Dawn H.

Yelp
What an interesting concept. The beer prices scroll across a ticker like the stock exchange and the prices can fluctuate. While waiting for a table we went downstairs to the ballroom. It's an arcade/bar. All the drinks at the Ballroom are served in cans. They have a large beer, hard seltzer, wine and soft drink selection. They have a change machine that takes credit cards so you can play as many games as you desire without needing cash. The donut holes are delicious, a great way to end the night. Once the table was ready upstairs I ordered the juicy Lucy burger. It was delicious. Cooked perfectly, juicy and flavorful. I will definitely be back. The only downside, like most downtown options, is the lack of parking. Ohhh and the powdered soap in the bathroom. It's very strange and hard to wash off.

Jim U.

Yelp
Before 6pm this is a weekend brunch place with beers that seem incredibly fancy, but not outstanding. The menu is higher prices but probably average for Detroit. I could get a similar experience in the suburbs for cheaper and this is definitely not what I expected from a beer exchange. I've been to Kalamazoo's exchange and this one was a disappointment. Service was good and our waitress was friendly. Didn't try food because we weren't hungry bit the nachos looked good. Worth $13? Probably not but they looked tasty. I would probably not come back unless it was actual beer exchange hours and they updated their selection.

Suzanne U.

Yelp
We went again now that they've been opened for a couple more weeks. The service was great and the food was delicious. The fajitas nachos were big enough for the table to share. We were there during a market crash which could be crazy alarming if you've never been or don't know the concept, the alarm bell was LOUD. My only compliant comes from the restrooms. They're in the basement and don't provide any privacy except in the stalls. The mirrors near the sink are windows so if you're checking your teeth or makeup, it's visible for anyone that's walking by. Picture to explain.

Danielle T.

Yelp
He had been wanting to check this place out and we were in the area anyway so figured why not! Service was alittle slow to start but they finally made it around. The vibe was such a mix between fancy, diner and summer tea party! Nothing really stood out here! Maybe drink options though for anyone's taste! Even though the bathrooms were a little weird to get to and set up in a strange way the dry soap was surprisingly a super cool experience!

Mina M.

Yelp
What a cool idea! We had a great time choosing different beers based! Food and desserts were also delicious! Will definitely be bringing some friends here to experience the beer exchange. Very creative

Eric N.

Yelp
Stopped in pretty late last night, on a Sunday, to get some late night food and a couple beers. Unfortunately there isn't much open on a Sunday night in the area, and we were just walking by and decided to give it a shot. Cool but simple inside. I've seen the "beer market" concept before but they pull it off nicely. Will, our bartender, made the experience what it was. Very intelligent, a very hard worker, and his enthusiasm and passion for the world of Mixology created some excellent conversation and made us stay later than we even planned. Ordered a few apps and the King's Chicken Sandwich, it was excellent. Beers were great, lines and glasses were CLEAN, which is huge for drinking good beers. Beer is definitely their thing, and they do it very well. I will definitely be back, thanks again Will!

Brent N.

Yelp
Fun concept with a great variety of beers available. The food is top notch as well. Service was friendly, efficient and helpful. Had the Havana Cuban sandwich and was great.

Stephanie S.

Yelp
impossible to get ahold of. tried multiple phone calls and emails and the website wasn't very helpful either.

Rob D.

Yelp
Fun time and solid food at The Detroit Beer Exchange. This Stock Market inspired restaurant is new to the downtown area but seems to be pretty popular so far. Love the idea of drinks going up and down in price as customers buy or don't buy drinks. If you're lucky you might even experience a market crash where drinks become really cheap. After a few drinks and some food you can head downstairs where they have a plethora of pinball games, arcade machines, Skee ball, or bocce ball to play. You can even grab a pizza at the window before heading down there. Overall a great experience.

Doug P.

Yelp
OMG! Fabulous! I couldn't imagine a better place to wrap up a great evening! Every kind of game imaginable, Bocce Ball, great vinyl music, fabulous vintage architecture, anything you want to drink, and a great staff to bring very needed late night food! . And James is a great owner and host! We were in from out of town for a wedding and DBE was by far and away the weekend's Friday-Saturday-Sunday MVP. Very much looking forward to coming back and avenging a painful Bocce Ball defeat with great everything! Thanks James!

Kenneth N.

Yelp
Great place, cool concept, fun environment, and nice people. Worth a visit if in the area.

Ariel A.

Yelp
I was willing to give this place the benefit of the doubt even though we waited over 90 minutes for a table. When we saw tables getting sat before us, we waited because we were a larger party and the Michigan State game was on. Other people in my party were not as happy and wrote a review, not inflammatory just giving the details of the night and guest experience. Still fine. We spent over $200 dollars and tipped 18-20% because our waitress doing her best. As we were leaving the manager decided to be antagonistic and say "Hope you have a good night. We saw your review". After perceiving the full night retrospectively, we were ok, had decided to not come back just from the overall experience but the petty retort from the manager at the end of the night, after spending money, caused me to write the review. It was not necessary.

Mikki M.

Yelp
I dined here last night, and the food was good. I had the chicken thigh sandwich (can't remember the name) but it was King's Hawaiian Roll with kimchi and pineapple slaw. It was delicious. My S.O. dined on the Reuben and we split an order of fries. He enjoyed his food as well. We are not beer drinkers like that, so can't tell you what beer to try. However, I did like the concept of a stock market, with prices constantly changing. The atmosphere was also good, it wasn't obnoxiously loud and the staff was very friendly. Great concept overall.

Kelsey S.

Yelp
I was so excited to come and experience the soft opening weekend of the Detroit Beer Exchange & it didn't disappoint! We were greeted promptly and sat right away. Our server was Will and he was an absolute riot! He suggested a great beer and was very attentive. We had great conversations with him and we will definitely be back and of course, requesting him as our server. Make sure to get their nachos too, they're SO good!

Steve T.

Yelp
Great space, concept, food and service. The Detroit Beer Exchange was a nice surprise. We were expecting more of your typical sports bar but it's more a mix of sports bar, bistro and arcade. They've done a great job with the interior, especially the basement which houses the arcade, bocce, etc. Of course they have a great beer list with some really good prices. We had the chicken sandwich and the pastrami reuben. Both were excellent and priced well. No price gouging here which seems to be the norm nowadays. Service was excellent as well. We will definitely be back.

Mario C.

Yelp
The beer was great. Had fun with the stock market like game. It's nice having an incentive when picking a beer from a large list. The staff was friendly and very quick to get you whatever you need.

Megan L.

Yelp
Great place to go for some food and beers. Definitely recommend the bar chips and burgers. The staff is very friendly and don't rush you out the door

Rose A.

Yelp
We here on a Saturday night, server was nice, but of course slow because we assume understaffed. Biggest issue was my husband's sandwich had mold on the bread on one half. We were starving so he started to eat the good half. When we were finally able to get the waitresses attention, she took the bad half back to the kitchen. Unfortunately she took his plate and left him with a messy sandwich and no plate. A few minutes later the manager came over and said they were remaking the sandwich. He didn't want a full sandwich, it would have gone to waste. He offered a dessert, but we didn't want one. I should have asked for them to take the sandwich off the bill, but I thought he would do it automatically. I was wrong. This was disappointing. Otherwise, the food was good, the beer stock market board was fun.

Elaine R.

Yelp
Overall this place is really cute and I know I'll be back. The upstairs is a nice restaurant where the ~exchange~ happens, but I was expecting a little more pizazz with the whole theme, when it's really just prices on a tv screen changing every 15 minutes without anyone really noticing. We had the beet hummus which was amazing! There's also a little pizza window between the restaurant And the arcade downstairs, and the pizza was surprisingly good! The arcade was really trendy however the bar was severely understaffed. There was always about 15 people waiting in line in a pretty crowded area with only one bartender, so it took a while to get served even though it's a can only bar. The selection was pretty neat and I ended up trying a smoothie beer which was tasty! Unfortunately there was a lingering odor that hangs out in the arcade which wasn't very pleasant. We really wanted to play arcade games, but the ATM only lets you withdraw a minimum of $20 (so you get a $20 bill) and the coin machine only accepts $1s and $5s. When we finally got our hands on $5 the machine wouldn't accept the money so we never got quarters to play any games. The biggest concern I have with this venue is the bathroom mirror situation. The mirrors are one way mirrors, so from the inside it's like any other mirror, but from the outside they are windows into the bathroom. So when women are leaning over sinks to wash their hands, fixing their outfits, literally going in and out of the stalls, anyone can just watch from the other side of the wall by the staircase, which was super creepy to learn after using the bathroom. Overall this place has a lot of potential and with a little TLC it can easily get a 5 star review. But seriously, fix the bathroom thing!

T M.

Yelp
Went to The Beer Exchange with a friend late last night, sat at the bar for about 5-7 minutes without being greeted by bartenders who clearly seen us sit dow but we're too busy circling the bar handling whatever business they were handling. About 10 minutes after we sat down two gentlemen came in and sat directly next to us at the bar. Finally after about 15 minutes I noticed someone who may have been the bar manager tell one of the bartenders to come over and take care of me, and my friend (since they'd seen when we came in and seen that we'd been sitting there for 10 minutes without even being acknowledged) but the bartender proceeded to take care of the two gentlemen who came in 10 minutes after we'd got there. Those two gentlemen were immediately waited on and literally had their drinks and shots in a matter of minutes of them sitting down at the bar. Meanwhile the waiter paid me and my friend no attention. The guy who appeared to be the bar manager seen this and came over to greet and wait on me and my friend, he gave us waters and a menu and said he would be back to take our orders. Another five minutes went past, we were agitated and understood exactly what was happening! When the bar manager came back to take our orders, we informed him that we would be leaving because of the unacceptably poor service and that we would never return to patronize the establishment. I will end this review by saying that me and my friend are African-American men, and the two gentlemen, who sat directly next to us were Caucasian men who were waited on expeditiously upon their arrival. The bar staff that we encountered were also Caucasian men. Do with that information what you will, but it is a fact, and it is the reality of my experience at the Detroit Beer Exchange. I will never go back. This is the reality of the indignities and subtle and overt occurrences of racism that Black folks deal with in "America" on a daily basis.

J. W.

Yelp
Fun place! Food was superb. Highly recommend the pulled pork sloppy Joe and Mac & cheese

David D.

Yelp
This was a really cool bar! My five friends and I didn't try out the upstairs but it was ascetically pleasing up there and super industrial downstairs with the arcade (which was also really fun). I liked the concept of just the canned beers in the basement, a little pricy but that's how it goes in downtown, I paid about 8 bucks for a can which is fine. There's also a great selection, a little something for everyone! The only weird downside here is the soap in the bathrooms, I understand that's a strange complaint. I personally didn't use the bathroom but all five of my friends did and the first thing they said when they came out was "that soap was weird" to the point of when the last person came out we were all laughing hysterically haha. It also left some weird residue in my fiancé's ring, so I'd Maybe recommend a different soap and it'll be perfect! I'll be back soon!

Mary E.

Yelp
If you're looking for a great and unique experience, friendly staff and an incredible atmosphere, this is the place! Cory and Kayle took amazing care of us and I couldn't have asked for a better duo behind the bar. The food was out of the world-I got the Mac and cheese and it was phenomenal. Beers were beyond tasty and easy on the pocketbook! I will definitely be back again SOON!

Hillary M.

Yelp
My colleagues and I came to the beer exchange last night. Super friendly bar service, especially the young lady behind the bar who was accommodating and sweet. Ordered the nachos and holy cow they are big! Delicious, and the chips were filling and flavorful. The woman who brought us our food had a big smile and I could tell she genuinely wanted to serve and help us. She came quickly and she was patient with us the bar and the server made us feel warm and welcome. Only problem is the music is boring but it was fine for conversation. Much love to I believe it was Siarea (idk how to spell it sry)from the bar and the server whose name we didn't get but both girls were extremely nice and I would definitely come back just to see them. Food is worth the price , good drinks good variety and good service. And that's just the upstairs, we went downstairs and the amount of games they have is crazy the pinball and skeeball made the night fun and worthwhile. Would abspurely recommend to family and friends the Detroit beer exchange.

Elizabeth P.

Yelp
What a fun concept! You don't even mind having to wait for a table because in the meantime you can go downstairs and order some drinks while playing skeeball or pinball to pass time time. Our server was polite and our food and drinks were great. The only complaint is that it wasn't posted anywhere that the "beer exchange" pricing doesn't start until 6 or 6:30PM. We got there for dinner at 5PM because we were going to a Red Wings game at 7PM. So, unfortunately, we didn't actually get to "play" along. Drink prices were posted on a standard table menu until the exchange became active.

John B.

Yelp
We had an awesome experience here. They have a great beer selection, many different varieties to choose from. We missed the "stock exchange", but that's okay it didn't detract from our time. We had chips, burgers, risotto, all were excellent. The basement arcade was so much fun and a perfect way to end our time there. All of the staff, management, and the owner were so gracious and friendly. Definitely check this place out!

Jillian Y.

Yelp
I'm so excited this bar has finally opened for business! Amazing atmosphere with great food. We tried the Za tar chicken and the lamb meatballs and they were TO DIE FOR. The games in the basement make for great post-meal fun! Will definitely be going back here to try more craft beer and wine! The owners came up to our table personally to see how our experience was and ask for improvements we could suggest. I personally love when you get to see the people behind the operation!

John A.

Yelp
Brand new place. New establishment ope in downtown Detroit during a pandemic. Down here for the First lions home game. There is a lot more excitement coming from the Kansas City game than off of the bartenders. Where is the energy, where are the smiles. They have been open just over a month, with a great concept from kzoo, and just a complete lack of effort
